A Downtown Church devastated only 8 years ago was worried it would get flooded again. Catholic church is back open for its congregation. Volunteers were out sandbagging and protecting the church along 1st avenue more than a week ago. They also filled several semis with furniture and took it to higher ground. In the end, the church stayed dry, with flood water cresting several feet below its once predicted hight of 25. 3 feet. Saint patricks lost everything back in 2008. With little advanced warning that year, staff didnt clean out the building. After holding mass at another church last week, Saint Patricks will hold mass at 10 this morning. In a tv9 update, Cedar Rapids Police say 18year old Christopher Arteberry junior was stabbed to death, friday morning. Officers responded to 6725 College Park Court southwest, just after 2 a. M. Arteberry died about an hour later at Mercy Medical center. Police took several people in for questioning. Au is ongoing. A waterloo man faces a first degree murder charge in connection to the death of a 4yearold girl. The waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports 32 yearold chad little appeared in court yesterday morning. Police arrested his ex girlfriend, kristi buss whos 31 on child endangerment charges two days ago. Prosecutors say little abused buss two children last year. They say buss failed to stop it. Four year old gracie buss died of head injuries in june 2015. Charged with sexual abuse, is now behind bars in florida. Marshals arrested randy eschen, who is 35, in cocoa on september 22nd. The Paramount Theatre will welcome its first performance in a week, flood water in 2008. Last sunday, worries of a repeat prompted volunteers to remove more than 800 chairs from the the theaters main floor. Kcrg tv9s jordee kalk shows us how the community put the historic spot back together again. About 60 volunteers showed up to the Paramount Theatre saturday morning. They started their work up at the balcony where the chairs were stored during the flood. 11 12, taking the chairs where we had them then its a little ant trail of making its way down here. Volunteers matched up the seat and back of the chairs. Then placed the chair in its original space. Nat hired carpenters then secured the chairs into place saturday. 11 36, probably 60 chairs probably took us as a staff a few hours. But this process here will take probably 2 or 3 hours and save a lot of money. But its also about how many people love the paramount, and respect the Paramount Theatre staff hope to get a majority of the work done saturday night. And possibly add couple final touches sunday morning. The next show at the theatre will be held sunday night. In cedar rapids, jordee kalk, later this week. Unlike 2008, the city wont likely get much federal or state funding to help businesses bounce back. The guys helped families move back into their homes, now that flood waters have dropped. The team also helped remove numbers to prepare for flooding across eastern iowa. New this morning, Iowa City Police are looking for a dodge street around 2 30 this morning. A man there said someone walked up to him and his friends, took out a knife and started slashing. The group is fighting the Bakken Oil Pipeline. It would transport crude oil in north dakota through 18 iowa counties to refineries in illinois.
