Fire and Police Arrested richard alatalo for arson and public intoxication. Officers found him shortly after the fire started. Alatalo was arrested for arson last october. A highprofile trial is underway in decorah for a man accused of killing his wife. Attorneys began jury selection yesterday in 41yearold alexander fazzinos trial. Hes charged with 1st degree murder in the death of emily fazzino. Police found her dead inside at the couples home in boone back in 2012. A judge mved the trial to Winneshiek County because of pretrial publicity. Emily fazzinos grandfather founded the Fareway Stores grocery chain. Investigators say a man was cooking with hot oil when a fire started at a cedar rapids apartment complex. It happened yesterday morning at shamrock apartments off jacolyn drive southwest. A fire broke out on the stove and spread to the cabinets. The man inside the apartment called 911 from the bathroom apartment where he was trapped. Was taken to the hospital. Police say he took off from the hospital around 7 30 this morning. He led police on a short chase after he drove through a closed bay door at the hospital. Officers say he stopped the ambulance and ran away in the 1100 block of lindner drive. Police found him about a block away and took him into custody. The Iowa Economic Development authority put together and approved a a ntract incentivizing that decision with 16 Million Dollars. They say there were a lot of selling points. You have this rich history of pioneer being here. Two, you have a solid brand. Three, you are connected to your customers. And four, we already have and when you combine that with the assets that you have at Iowa State University. And i will have to say Iowa State University was critical to this decision as well. The city council of johnston took action later on friday to support the actions of the Iowa Economic Development auauhority in providing ffnancial assisisance to the proposed merger of dowdupont for a total of one million matching dollars. Thats not exactly new dollars. Its a extension of the tax increment Financing Agreements with dupontpioneer. Which has been in the j jnston community for 90 years. The incentive is for two hundred and 50 to five hundred jobs. Primarily for research. Without those research and development jobs, we wouldnt have all of the other jobs that pioneer has that support the research and development so the investments that were making in the 500 jobs really means an investment in 2600 jobs s d probably more jobs than that in the future. The incentive money is based on forward. No money will be spent until washington has approved the merger. And the company splits into three separate entities.
