The city owned the land and just sold it to habitat for humanity for a dollar. Under the Development Agreement, the 14 homes need to be constructed by the end of 2019. A habitat spokeswoman says they plan to begin building as soon as the ground is thawed enough to dig a foundation. Governor branstad announced a plan to make buying your first home easier. He says eligible iowans can now buy a home and reduce their federal income Tax Liability by up to two thousand dollars a year for the life of their mortgage.
