Us attorney kevin tehau says there are a lot of options in eastern iowa for anyone affected by Domestic Violence. Too many iowans are victims of domestic abuse. We want to let those victims know that state and federal Law Enforcement is here to help them and that we have Great Community services and not for profits that can give them the Us Attorneys Office says one in four women and one in seven men suffer severe Domestic Violence. The iowa dot impoved an urbana intersection where a crash killed five young people earlier this year. On april ninth, a pickup drove into the path of a semi near the intersection of 55th street and highway 150. Thats just west of urbana. The five who died ranged in age from 12 to 20. The dot says the curve on highway 150 makes it hard to see the highways southbound traffic. The dot has now painted the median island. And theyve installed new signs with lights to help drivers going onto highway 150 see if a vehicle is coming around the curve. In the longterm, the dot is planning a one and a half Million Dollar redesign of the intersection. Thats set to be done in fiscal year 2018. The plan is to remove the curve and create a square intersection. And theyll add more turn lanes and create a more level approach to the intersection. The cold weather is coming, which means its the end of Road Construction season. Crews in cedar rapids have been busy with paving for progress projects. Thats the program that started after voters passed the onecent local option sales tax at the end of 2013. The city says four projects werent finished because once crews got to the site, they realized it was beyond the capability of city forces. Those will now carry over to the next couple of years. But some worry that the payments are late. Thats not the case according to the fsa. They cite arc and plc regulations to require payments due. After the calculations are all done. They have to calculate revenues based on commodity. Based on county. And there are over three thousand counties in the nation. And 21 commodities. All have to be data loaded. We use a combination of nass, national ag statistics, and rma, which is Crop Insurance, data to get the yields. Some of that starts to become available in july. The waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports a group of people broke into a home on idaho street on tuesday. Authorities say one suspect cut himself on a broken window when he ran away. Police found 21yearold cordell washington wearing the victims clothes a short time later. He faces several charges interference. Three others including a 16yearold also face charges in the first burglary. Two former anamosa Prison Guards pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs. Marques maryland pleaded guilty to to possession of a controlled substance last week. Seth vogel entered a written plea to the same charge yesterday. Maryland was sentenced to two days in jail and a 315 dollar fine. Vogel is expected to face the same punishment. The two former guards were among at least 9 employees who either resigned or were fired. Investigators say guards prescription drugs in the prison. At least one former guard smuggled cell phones inside the prison to inmates in exchange for cash. Dubuque police are asking people to be watchful, as the number of reports of gunfire increases. Police say theyve responded to 30 incidents so far this year. There were 25 calls last year and in 2013. Police are asking people to call something suspicious in their neighborhood.
