And id say the same thing about akrum. When he gets over 190, im going to give him a hug and smile and say really nice things about him when he gets over 190. Ill be singing his praises, but hes not there yet. But, hes doing a good job. Trt 46 oc hes doing a good job xavier grad mitch keller whos in the Minor Leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mitch, your season just ended, but you had a great year. You were named the Pirates Minor League pitcher of the year. What did it mean to you to receive that honor . Its just a huge honor. Especially from the Pittsburgh Pirates because they identified me as the best pitcher in the Minor Leagues and just a span of all the players that are in there. So, its a huge honor. You spent time with two teams, the West Virginia power and the bradenton marauders. I want to read off these numbers 2. 35 era, 130 innings, 138 strikeouts and 19 walks. You started the season with 15 scoreless innings, and you ended the season with 29 scoreless innings. Were you even aware of these streaks . At the beginning of a streak like that because your era is at zero. You have that in the back of your head. And then, towards the end of the season i didnt really know it was that much until i got to bradenton for my first start. And then in the playoffs i gave up that run, i kind of knew in that back of my head. You get kind of disappointed when you give up that first run after awhile, but you let it slide and get back into the game. So, it was fun. What was working so well for you this season . Mention some mechanical stuff you were working on. There was some mechanical things we worked on. The velocity definitely helps, especially at the lower levels and younger hitters, the bats arent as quick. The beginning of the season, the bats werent as warm. Because you had such a great season at West Virginia, you were the starting pitcher in the honor was it for you to be the starting pitcher in a game like that . That was huge, just looking at all the big names that you hear from the draft from years before that are in the same league as you. You get the nod as the starting pitcher; it was such a huge honor. It was a blast. It was probably the most fun game ive played in a long time. You got the call up to bradenton pretty late in the season. Did you think that you would get the really expecting it to be that late, but i had some thoughts in my head that maybe i was towards the middleend. But in the back of my head, i thought i was going to stay in West Virginia the whole year. Thats usually what theyve done with younger guys like me. So, i really didnt expect it. And when i did get the call, i was pretty surprised, but i was real excited too. Its everything i couldve asked for. Cant thank the pirates enough for taking me in the draft. I think if i didnt go id still be in college right now. Just to think of where i am right now, i wouldnt choose any other route.
