Chief White House Correspondent john roberts starts us off on the north lawn, good evening. Good evening to you. It white house Officials Say john boltons policies did not align with those of President Trump. Sources close to john bolton say his job to provide National Security advice based on a coherent philosophy was impossible at this white house. And so President Trump is now looking for his fourth National Security advisor in three years. In his Resignation Letter dated today, john bolton was characteristically blunt. I hereby resign, he wrote, effective immediately. If thank you for having afforded me this opportunity to serve our country. Before hiring him, President Trump had been a big fan of bolt and as unvarnished opinions on Foreign Policy and National Security but over the 17 months of boltons tenure, the two frequently clashed on big issues like afghanistan, iran, north korea, venezuela, and russian meddling in the u. S. Elections. I made it clear that we wouldnt tolerate meddling in 2018 and that we were prepared to take necessary steps to prevent it from happening. They said they think its russia. I have president putin, he just said its not russia. I will say this, i dont see any reason why it would be. It came to a head last night, sources say, as the president and bolton got into it over afghanistan. Bolton had let it be known publicly he opposed both the piece to make peace plan and idea of having the taliban to camp david. In a tweet President Trump saying i informed john bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the white house. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the administration. But bolton maintains he wasnt fired, he quit. Sources say after arguing with the president last night, bolton slept on it and decided he would leave. He delivered his Resignation Letter to the president at 11 30 this morning. 28 minutes later the president tweeted i asked john for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. The departure had been building for some time. Sources telling fox news yesterday bolton was likely on the way out. Today the secretaries of state and treasury said they were often at odds with both and too. There were many times ambassador bolton and i disagreed combats to be sure. The president s view of the iraq war and prep ambassador boltons was very different. It will likely remain a case of he said, he said, reaction from the president s supporters from boltons supporter dominic supporters was swift. I like john bolton, i think he sees the world for what it is. Ive always had a similar view of the threats that we face, but the personal relationship between the president and National Security advisor is important. I think the threat of war around the world is greatly diminished with bolton out of the white house. President trump that he will name a new National Security advisor next week. A couple of names that are in the mix, brian hook, currently the senior policy advisor to secretary of state mike pompeo as well as stephen biegun, the point person on north korea, with whom bolton seriously disagree. Will serve as acting until a new person is chosen. Bret. Bret john roberts live on the north lawn, thank you. We will have an extended interview with senator Lindsey Graham, who spoke with the president today, a little later in the program. The cia says a report on cnn has potential to put lives in danger and is just wrong. It involves the extraction of a spy in russia and whether President Trump was the reason. Chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge tells us what she learned tonight. If former e cia director, now secretary of state mike pompeo unloaded on media reports claiming cia asset was pulled in part because of the president s actions. The reporting is materially inaccurate and as the former cia director i dont talk about things like this very often, it is only the occasions when there is something i think whats people at risk or the reporting is so egregious as to create enormous risk to the United States america that i even comment way that i just did. Citing anonymous sources, cnn reported the president made 17th disclosure of classified information to the russians about terrorism was a pivotal moment. They renew discussion among intelligence officials but the assets risk of exposure. The Oval Office Meeting was described to fox news as irrelevant to the cias decision making, which is a very deliberate process that relies on multiple factors to extract an asset. Fox news has learned that the 2017 Intelligence Community assessment, or i see a, on Russian Election interference as well as International Media reports about a russian sources proximity to president Vladimir Putin were major factors for the agency. Russian officials were quick to downplay the likelihood a cia source infiltrated the kremlin. The job does not belong to High Authority positions, socalled appointed positions. Responding to the cnn report, the cia took the unusual step of issuing a public statement. Misguided speculation that the president s handling of our nations most sensitive intelligence, which he has access to each and every day, drove an alleged exultation population dominic operation is on inaccurate. Make its space on multiple factors because once the exit folder cannot go back into play and, the assets remaining network of contacts could be retaliated against. If theres concern on capitol hill tonight that intelligence about russian strategy 2020 was lost in the process. Bret thank you. Also breaking tonight, israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was whisked away from a Campaign Rally today after air raid sirens sounded, missiles were in the air. It comes as netanyahu says he will Begin Annexing West Bank settlements if he Wins National elections next week. Correspondent trey yingst is live from our bureau in jerusalem with the latest, good evening. Good evening, bret. Earlier tonight, at least two rockets were fired from the gaza strip into southern israel. This is significant not only because two major israeli cities were targeted, but because is really Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was holding a Campaign Rally in one of them. Netanyahu was rushed offstage as he told attendees to take shelter. Both rockets were intercepted by israels Missile Defense system. We can expect a massive israeli response as this is being seen locally as a major escalation. Egyptian negotiators were in gaza this week trying to broker a longterm ceasefire agreement. If the night is any indication though, the negotiations are not going well. This developer does follow another major piece of news out of israel today after Prime Minister netanyahu announced a plan to annex large portions of the west bank, including the Jordan Valley and areas north of the dead sea. If he does win reelection. 13 year leader of israel added that this would be done with the support of the trump administration. The white house is indicated for the president s deal with the century peace plan will be rolled out after the elections next week. Annexing more portions of the west bank is an extremely controversial political position here in israel. Receiving backlash from the Palestinian Authority and the west bank would just tell fox news this evening the plan is illegal. Bret trey yingst live in jerusalem, thank you. A large explosion rocked afghanistans capital of the u. S. Embassy a short time ago. It happened in the early hours of wednesday in kabul on the anniversary of the 9 11 attack on the u. S. 9 11 already there in kabul. Officials at the Embassy Compound have declared an all clear and so far report no injuries there. President trumps commerce secretary is under fire tonight. It is the latest fallout in the uproar over President Trumps prediction and then defense of that prediction that Hurricane Dorian might affect alabama. Correspondent Doug Mckelway tells us how that affects wilbur ross and his future. Sharpie gate is proving hard to erase as more Congressional Democrats call for the resignation of commerce secretary wilbur ross. No appointees if they didnt stick up with the false claims about alabama. Now it appears the Inspector General is investigating sharpie gate. Fox news has obtained an ig memo requesting they preserve all Communications Related to the episode. That following a New York Times report that ross threatened to fire top employees after the agency posthumous Birmingham Office contradicted President Trumps claim that Hurricane Dorian might hit alabama. The Commerce Department struck back at the report. Secretary ross did not threaten to fire any staff. The National Weather service added the Birmingham Office was not even aware that they had weighed in on dorian. Alabama will not see any impacts from dorian. Nws said that quote was in no way political or an attempt to correct and embarrass the president , as has been inaccurately reported. That defense is doing nothing to deter ross his critics, who remember when he was asked at this confirmation hearing, longheld policy of scientific independence. I support the dissemination of valid information to the public. I dont think that valid information should be concealed. Claims of a president pressuring noah to change it science are not new. In july a climatologist and scientist during the 1980s public was stated that noah changed data to fit the Obama Administration the posthumous climate agenda. Yes, there were people who actually fiddled with the data to make their president look good at various meetings. One scientist defended the agency against such claims noting that the results have been independently verified. Bret. Bret thank you. The number of Americans Without Health Insurance edged up in 2018, the first increase in a decade. The Census Bureau says an estimated 27 and a half million people, 8. 5 of the population, did not have Health Insurance last year. If that was an increase of almost 2 million uninsured people or a half a percentage point. Stocks were mixed today, the dow gained 74, the s p 500 was up 1, the nasdaq lost 3. There are major questions tonight about the future of the areas in the bahamas devastated by Hurricane Dorian, at least 50 people are dead, but that number is expected to rise. Meantime, there is considerable uncertainty about what awaits the survivors. Correspondent ellison barber reports tonight from abaco island. Food and supplies are still coming into marsh harbor airport. For the most part there was no one here to use it. First responders are still stationed here. Nonprofits are preparing tarps to cover homes Still Standing when its needed. Fox news has told most rescues in the abaco islands are done and so are most evacuations. Military aircraft are flying supplies to nearby keys where more residents are reported to be choosing not to evacuate. Some say supplies are not getting to the people who needed fast enough. And many of those people are now in nassau. We got thousands of people coming in, dont know where they are going, that are going in shelters, theyre coming out of hell and going right back into hell. We have no plan. Emergency mills are sitting on the dock. Boxes of food or in some Grocery Stores but it seems there arent very many people here to use it. Neighborhoods like pigeon pea on the mod are empty, all that seems to be left are piles and piles of rubble and bodies hidden beneath them. If the working with nonprofits told fox news bahamian officials told them to hold off on sending items like generators and Water Filtration systems to the abaco islands. In part because they want people who are left to evacuate. An estimated 70,000 are homeless and many have no idea where theyll go next. Its not much to do but care for one another and pray that every day is going to get bette better. Facilities in nassau are reportedly overwhelmed. Officials say the data being placed in body bags and temporarily stored in refrigerated containers. We are told over 30 bodies in this area and just three days. Hospitals report the generators and water filters arent being allowed into this area, a spokesperson with the bahamas Emergency Agency says that is an accurate and those things are still critically needed. Bret. Bret ellison barber in abaco island, thank you. Federal authorities have arrested former officials of the federal emergency authority. Accusing them of bribery and fraud. The alleged crimes occurred during the recovery from Hurricane Maria at the u. S. Attorneys office. Cobra acquisitions nonpresident Donald Keith Ellison gave femas Deputy Director use of the helicopter, hotel accommodations, airfare, personal security services, and the use of a credit card. Says the fema official pressure to his agency and local power utility officials to award contracts to that company. Up next, senator Lindsey Graham on the departure of john bolton as National Security advisor. Heres what some of our fox affiliates around the country are covering tonight. Fox 40 in sacramento as a California Democratic governor gavin newsom signs a pair of bills to try and make it harder for parents to choose not to vaccinate their children. The measures order the department of Public Health to investigate doctors who grant more than five medical exemptions in a year along with schools with immunization rates under 95 . Fox to train in st. Louis with a Train Derailment across the Mississippi River near duple illinois. Firefighters say the train was carrying ethanol. At the smoke coming from the crash scene could be seen for miles. St. Clair county Emergency Management said there were evacuations in that immediate area. And this is a live look at miami from our fox affiliate. The big story there tonight the trial of chinese businesswoman charged with trespassing at President Trumps Maralago Club and then lying to secret service agents. Today the receptionist at the club said she was acting weird and strange when she entered the resorts lobby last spring causing her to confront the woman and to alert an agent posted nearby. She insists shes not guilty, but she does face up to six years in prison if convicted. Thats tonights live look outside the beltway from special report. We will be right back. Bret President Trump says the government will no longer restrict historically black colleges and universities that have a religious mission from accessing federal funding for capital projects. If the president saying a recent Justice Department legal opinion declared such discriminatory restrictions to be unconstitutional. Lets dig in a little deeper on tonights top story, the departure of john bolton as the president s National Security advisor buried this evening state Department Correspondent rich edson examines the differences between the two men that lead to todays announcement. The president , who promised to extract the United States from endless wars and as National Security advisor, convinced of the value of projecting american power. John has strong views on things, but thats okay. I actually temper john, which is pretty amazing. His hawkish approach brought him conflict with some of the president s top Foreign Policy initiatives, especially outreach to World Leaders bolton views as enemies of the United States. Mr. President , how is it going so far, sir . Very good. The first sitting american president to meet a north korean leader. Officials say bolton strongly opposed this effort ends state Department Led negotiations with north korea on its nuclear and missile programs ahead of the singapore summit, bolton floated a u. S. Approach to negotiations with north korea. We have very much in mind the libya model from 2003, 2004. There are obviously differences. The socalled libya model also ended with the murder of muammar qaddafi. A disturbing image to project to north koreas dictator. There were also major differences on middle east policy. I disagreed very much with john bolton. His attitude in the middle east and iraq was going into iraq. I think that was a big mistake. Boltons opposition to the president pushing to withdraw u. S. Troops from syria and afghanistan, especially negotiations with the telegram and now cancel plans to meet with taliban leaders at camp david. On iran, the president of austrias willingness to meet with president house on ronnie and the cancellation of an air strike in retaliation for iran downing an american drone. Venezuela, bolton advocated strong support for the opposition, even flash and thousand troops to columbia on a notepad during a news conference. Nicolas maduro is still in power there and there are reports the president believes bolton was too confident in the opposition. Officials say there are also personality differences between bolton and secretary of state mike pompeo. Pompeo acknowledged there were many times the two disagreed and said the president is entitled to the staff he wants. Bret. Bret rich edson at the state department, thank you. Political washington obviously buzzing tonight about the departure of john bolton as the president s National Security advisor. Joining us tonight to tell us what he knows, Senate Foreign Relations Committee member and chair of the Senate Judiciary committee, Lindsey Graham of south carolina, thanks for being here. Thank you for having me. Bret see this coming . A bit. A personality policy difference that led to a change. From my point of view john bolton serve the country well, he gave the president good advice, but the one thing youve got to learn but President Trump as ive come to learn is hes unconventional. Its okay i think or talk with the taliban even at camp david if theres a reason to believe theyre going to accept and change their behavior, and i thought we just got ahead of the cart there, but john is gone and there are a lot of the choices and appreciate what john did for the country. Bret even a couple days ahead of 9 11 to do that at camp david . Yeah. I can understand the timing, but the main thing is i told the president your right to want to reduce our commitment. Your right to want to lower our costs. 18 years later, what have we found . Al qaeda is still there, isis is there. But the afghan army is 270,000. 18 years ago they didnt have an army. 6 million women in school, a lot of positive things. Theres a lot of bad things and we cant do in afghanistan what we did in iraq, ignore sound military advice and pull the plug on the place, but having said that, id like to end the war. The only way you ever end the war is to get the two sides talking so its okay to talk with the taliban. It would be okay to come to camp david but what i thought was a mistake is well, the big mistake if the taliban really screwed up when it came to trump. If this an insult of the president to kill that soldier while hes trying to end the war. I think theyre going to regret this. I think the taliban are really going to regret what they did. Bret what you say two allies will look at the turmoil inside the administration . There have been 60 individuals in the trump administration, either resigned or been fired, some of them on the page here. What you say to those allies its volatile, uncertain. Looking now at the force National Security advisor in three years plus . Heres what i would say to allies, judge us by what we do. We reduced our presence in syria but we still have a commitment to northeastern syria to protect the kurds and make sure iran doesnt take over. We got off in iran deal that i thought was a bad deal and the president kept his word. Hes trying to reduce our commitment in afghanistan that makes sense to me, we are paying way too much money 18 years later and we can reduce our forces and be safe here, but we just cant pull out of the place. I would say to our allies, why dont you help him more . Bret it was iran a policy difference between the president of john bolton . Maybe the president wants to meet with their president , maybe even at the u. N. General assembly . I think bolton looked at trump through the traditional Foreign Policy lens. The condition was him, you dont talk to guys coming to elevate kim jong un. I dont care President Trump and kim jong un go on vacation. If thats what it takes to give him up give up his nuclear weapons, im okay with personal diplomacy thats unconditional. Im okay with talking to the iranians as long as we get a better deal. What would a better deal be . They can have Nuclear Power but they cant enrich a process of uranium, that would be a better deal so im not here to much of the present. You beat me, 16 of the republicans coming to beat hillary clinton. Lets give your way to try and im going to support a molokan. Bret looking at north korea as a blueprint, what do you see out of those negotiations and those two summits . I see better. No need for muscle testing, no bombs being exploded. A personal relationship how will that work out . Those who criticize the present, how well did you do any wrong . How well did you do in north korea . Im a pretty hawkish guy but after 18 years, its okay to reevaluate our commitment in afghanistan. It makes perfect sense to me, but im just urging the president dont ignore sound military advice. You can reduce our presence in afghanistan but if you leave afghanistan, al qaeda and isis are coming after us. Bret so did he fire him or did bolton resign . I dont know what i dont think it really matters. At the end of the day i liked john bolton. He served honorably and as president lost trust and faith in john bolton and i think hes got some good choices. Bret lets talk about that. If you talked about that today. Whos on the plate . General kellogg is the National Security advisor to mike pence. The Vice President , he worked for general mcmaster. Bret keith kellogg. Keep kellogg. Confident, capable, confident, has the president s trust. A dynamic young man working in the state department, part of the iran team and the state department close to pompeo. Youve got require dell, who worked for mcmaster who knows the ins and outs of the National Security council and the way it meets. The one thing i think was a knock on john bolton is the process kind of died on his watch. Bret these are the three guys. Keep kellogg, brian, record out. Those are three names the president mentioned to me. There are others on the list, but what are we looking for . Somebody that can work with pompeo, work with the department of defense to get the inner agency back stood back up. Bret s doesnt require Senate Confirmation vote. This is just about trust with the president , right . Its about understanding the president trying to enact his will but telling the truth. Heres the truth and here is how i get along with him. This president , youre right to want to reduce our commitment afghanistan, reduce the cost and maybe reduce the troop levels. But it would be a big mistake to do in afghanistan what obama did in iraq. Im looking for a National Security advisor who understands the president , can work with others, give the president good advice and behind closed doors push back when he needs to. Bret i want to ask you two more questions. One, theres an investigation out of commerce secretary wilbur ross, if he put his finger on the scale and noaa scientists in the fall of the alabama ordeal we dealt with last week. Whats your thoughts in my . Not going to give a bret thats for the record . Yeah, thank you. Next question. I could careless, this whole thing is a bunch of garbage. If the president did have a model where it could have alabama if it went through florida. This is the trump world. The guy cant do anything, the guy getting criticized by a bunch of people who just hate his guts and im not playing that game. Bret the story about the russian asset that was extracted. Another example of what i think is complete b. S. , trying to blame the president for something that didnt happen. Networks out there saying the president got a loan cosigned by oligarchs. When it comes to trump, im very suspicious you say it and then you try to verify it later. The president is a handful. He makes his fair share of mistakes, but the story about the president damaging our National Security i think is unverified and untrue. Bret are you confident that the funding of the government is going to go without a bump . It may be a bump, but its going to happen because failure is not an option. Both parties need to convince the public we are not completely crazy. And we can do our job. Bret last thing, anything get done before 2020 in earnest . I think we may have some breakthroughs on solving the plastic in the oceans problem. We may have some breakthroughs on infrastructure, a smaller bill, funding the government would be a great step forward, giving the military what they need. On immigration, you might have a deal with the daca population if the court rules that obamas daca plan was unconstitutional. We might have breakthroughs on prescription drugs, lowering the crust, there is bipartisanship there. Bret we appreciate the time. Coming up next, is traditionally solid republican texas actually in play for 2020 . We will have a reporte next. Ever since i started renting from national. Democrats are hoping to pull off an upset next year and turn that state blue in the president ial election. Tonight correspondent peter doocy reports from an Elizabeth Warren Campaign Event in austin on whether texas really is in play for 2020. Texas has been a red state for ten president ial elections in a row, but democrats think Election Night 2020 will be different. That night, the polls are going to close at 7 00 in the great state of texas in three hours later they are going to announce that Julian Castro has beaten donald trump. That kind of optimism is fueled by a belief among democrats that border state residents dont like the way President Trump talks about the border. He says theres an invasion coming. If they are about to invade us. How far is that from the language used by the killer in el paso . Beto orourke is going to the mic so far as to bet his border town in texas should serve as a model for towns everywhere. El paso, texas, in fact is one of if not the safest city in the United States of america not despite, but because its a city of immigrants and asylumseekers and refugees. Is a senate candidate, he attracted huge crowds, but so did his opponent, senator ted cruzs top surrogate, donald trump. Everything in texas is just bigger. And the republican incumbent prevailed. All the money in the world was no match for the good people of texas. The texas economy remains strong but the texas delegation will look different no matter what next year because five of the 23 republican members of congress from texas are retirin retiring. Something democrats excitedly referred to as a texodus, something they are already planning for in this weeks debate in texas. This is the kind of place that rejects donald trump and has politics of cruelty. And taking us backwards. This is a city of the future. Before texas is tested in the general election, there is going to be a democratic primary here on super tuesday and one democratic candidate has people in austin tonight very interested and its neither of the candidates from texas. All these people are here for senator Elizabeth Warren, who continues to draw enormous crowds at her events every couple of days. Bret peter doocy walking with the crowds in austin, texas, thanks. Another state that has republicans concerned is North Carolina. A special election there tonight seen by many as an indicator of g. O. P. Strength or weakness in that state. Correspondent Jonathan Serrie is in monroe North Carolina tonigh tonight. Campaigning in North Carolina this week, President Trump stressed the importance of holding onto the tar heel state. To stop the far left, you must vote in tomorrows special election, so important. Get your votes in early. These visits play well with the president s loyal base. I think you will have a lot of impact if they just allow him to do his thing. But compared to other Southern States, North Carolina is more purple than red. President trump carried the state by less than four points in 2016. In the 2008 president ial race, democrat barack obama won North Carolina by a fraction of the point only to lose the state to republican mitt romney by just over two points in 2012. You just look at voter registration, Fastest Growing group of registered voters is unaffiliated. Much of that has to do with an increase in millennial voters and an influx of new residents from other states. If you grew up in kansas you were registered as a republican. But i vote now more common sense. I vote for people and ideals. In a Southern State or Marriage Equality and a bathroom bill made national headlines, voters elected a democrat for governor in 2016. Outside groups are spending millions of dollars on ads in the states to persuade voters to their candidates or cause. President trumps Political Action committee tells fox news North Carolina is going to be a major focus the cycle because it is 1 of 6 states that will be up for grabs with the most electoral votes in the most expensive media markets. North carolina is not likely to be the tiebreaker in terms of being the state that determines the presidency, but it is one of the states that tells you which direction the trends are headin heading. We have some breaking news in the district nine congressional race. The state elections board held an emergency meeting this evening after republicans complained that there was some confusion about the location of one of the polling sites in union county. Initially the party had asked for an extension of voting hours until 9 15 but after some discussion, the proposal was dropped and all polls in North Carolina will close on time at 7 30. Bret Jonathan Serrie live in monroe North Carolina. Thank you. We will have complete results here on fox tonight. Prime minister Boris Johnson overseas succeeded in his plan to suspend brittons rebellious parliament for five weeks. Its part of a strategy to withdraw the United Kingdom from the european union, socalled brexit, on october 31st with or without an exit deal. Lawmakers have passed a law requiring johnson to ask for a three month delay no deal is agreed to by midoctober. President trump either fires the National Security advisor, or he quits. It was delivered to the president today. Wow, one more day of chaos. One more day of what in the world is going on at the white house. If there were concerns at the getgo about john bolton. The president is entitled to the staff that he wants at any moment. Bret well, john bolton is no longer National Security advisor. Katie, your thoughts on bolton . So based on who i talked to today in his administration but boltons departure, it seems like john bolton became too much of an independent operator. There were decisions made by the administration specifically by the president and john bolton would then refuse to go out and back Foreign Policy decisions that had been made and that didnt just happen once or twice on a couple of issues, it would happen on a regular basis. I was also told that he would often take these elaborate overseas trips with a lot of National Security staff and that was something that required a lot of resources and not necessarily part of his job, which was to gather information from a number of federal agencies that deal with National Security, presented to the president for decision. So i think it was a matter of john bolton not being necessarily a team player, thinking that his strategy was better and not backing the president publicly when it came to the big decisions. Bret also had a statement back in may where the National Security advisor had announced that appointment of a Carrier Strike group for the iran protection. He was kind of bold in that way, but in some way he was not allowed into some meetings, we were told, when it came to afghanistan, south korea. He not only was sidelined in washington, he was sent to mongolia during a north korean meeting. Being sent to mongolia i guess if he had been sent to Outer Mongolia that would have been even worse. But the point is he was being sidelined. If john bolton was not at the white house to further his career or to climb the greasy pole. If hes had strong views a long time and the question for him i remember doing a story when he was first appointment, the question was how long would he stay given that he had clear potential big differences with donald trump . I think today mike pompeo and secretary mnuchin tried to make clear that the iran policy is not changing just because john bolton is no longer there. They will continue their Pressure Campaign moving forward and really today the bolton news distracted away from what pompeo was announcing, was a modernization of sanctions against terrorist leaders around the world that makes it easier for the United States to target terrorist leaders in Different Countries when they are leading and not necessarily planning operations. Bret but he also may sit down with the iranian president , which Beasley Bolton would not have been a fan of. One last graphic year. All of the National Security officials in one way or another who have resigned or been fired. Theres a lot on this list and i asked senator graham earlier, what about the turnover and what that means or says or signals around the world. Tom . Willett signals these are tough jobs to begin with under optimal circumstances and obviously trump is a tough guy to work for. He sort of does he improvises, hes impulsive. He announces things by tweet, catches people by surprise and so that makes it extraordinarily tough for these folks and again, the personality thing in the trust thing is big with trump and if you lose any semblance of that, then you are not long for the job. Speak of the reporting materially inaccurate and you should know as a former cia director, i dont talk about things like this very often, it is only the occasions when theres something i think puts people at risk or the reporting is so egregious as to create an enormous risk to the United States that i would even comment in a way that i just di did. Bret secretary of state today commenting on the cnn story that the u. S. Attracted a top spy inside russian on a 17 because essentially donald trump mishandled classified information, the cia putting out a statement saying this is misguided speculation and inaccurate. If you had a secretary of state, former cia director. Back with the panel. Tom. I think Lindsey Graham is actually being too kind when he called the story b. S. Earlier. This was an abomination, what cnn did here. The story was long, complicated and all of it took place or most of it took place in 2016 before trump even took office. They asked the spy, they try to get a malcolm he said no, and then they went back to him after they administration the Obama Administration had released this public report on how russia had interfered with the election and they were concerned his safety and then went back and got him out. Trump had nothing to do with this and yet they framed the story that way specifically to try and hurt him. Bret the guy was pulled out, but youre right, it was the time frame and the reporting was heavily on the President Trump part. The story is amazing without that. We got a human asset out safely. Thats pretty great given how many russian people are killed bret are great that we dont have the intelligence asset. That was bad but the point is the guy was a murder like many others are. Yeah, but the story of donald trump possibly sharing intelligence with the russians, we dont know what he talked about with putin because he took the interpreters notes. Thats a separate story. It doesnt seem like theres the connection to this episode. Bret and the pushback, its rare to see the pushback from the cia and the former cia director, now secretary of state. And the story frames it as this was something President Trump did, but when you look at the consistency between the New York Times story in the cnn story, which were at odds on a lot of points, they both consistently said one of the main reasons why the asset was pulled out of russia is because of all of the Media Attention, so you could argue that all of the Media Attention actually did a lot more damage than what they argued falsely that President Trump did and if there are serious questions about why this asset was pulled out, john brennan, the former cia director, should be asked some questions about that rather than pinning it on mike pompeo and on President Trump. Bret this is a cycle though that we see all the time, right . Overshooting one way or another and the president or the administration saying we told you so. Now, this is a perfect example of one network in particular but the media in general sort of deciding they want to hurt donald trump so they shoehorn a story that really has nothing to do with him into a frame that tries to hurt him in the media actually coming to katies point, made it worse by reporting that this act spy is now living in the washington area. Why would you even do that . Went up to his house and knocked on his door. Bret we got to run, sorry. A little shorter tonight. When we come back, a video we need to show again.
