The blizzard of 2015 is performing exactly as predicted, just not exactly everywhere predicted. New england got crushed all night and all morning and its still snowing. On track for one of the worst and possibly the worst snowstorm ever recorded in parts of the region. A live look at boston where the snow is still coming down in areas and could keep coming down into the night. The blizzard brought Hurricane Force wind gusts along the massachusetts coast. Theres local flooding, and the afternoon high tide around 4 00 5 00, is expected to be worse. It knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses, including all of nantucket. Officials say the states on Nuclear Power plant shut down. Emergency workers said families could spend days in the dark. New york city dodged the worst of if after the storm shifted 30 meals to the east, and then hammered long island. At the same time it crushed new england. A foot and a half in hyannis. New london connecticut, two feet and its still snowing across the area into maine. On track for the worst ever in town after town. Its still causing headaches nationwide for fliers. Unite airlines tells me they will have flights incoming here to la guardia from houston and chicago after 8 00 tonight, but it will still take until the end of the week before the Airline System can fully recover. A lot of people trapped . No. Really, that wasnt the case. A lot of people theyve been down this road before. They know which place is susceptible to flooding. A lot of people selfevacuated. A handful of folks this morning changed their minds and local officials had to save them. But they werent in harms way. They just made a decision that their car was not going to be able to drive in that deep water. You must be having an ice problem you. Dont get above 32 for as long as the forecast goes. No. Matter of fact, the temperatures are supposed to dip really into Single Digits over the next couple of days. I notice the Power Outages werent as bad and im guessing thats because it was colder and the snow was lighter and fluffier instead of heavy and wet. Tomorrow, city hall will be closed for anyone except for Emergency Personnel. In part of that reason is to keep the roads clear as we continue to battle the storm. In other words, still very much in the middle of the storm here in the city of boston, and safe concerns remain a very serious concern of all of ours. Its not easy to stay ahead of a storm this size, but we have been able to use all the city resoursresources to do the best we can. Our Emergency Operations Center Remains open and will continue to too so through the recovery. We still have out in at the street right now 700 laws and 700 plows. Were using snow farms and i ask all the residents of boston to be parent with us as we get out there. We were ahead of the storm pretty well and then around 11 00 when the storm picked up our roads got hammered again particularly the side roads. So were asking you to be patient and well get to your roads. The next stage were working on is snow removal. Were working in our Priority Areas inaround schools, and holding open the possibility of closing schools on thursday, depending on progress through the night tonight and tomorrow. We have had reports from snow plow drivers that have had close call with pedestrians walking in the street. People wearing hats and head phones and not paying attention to the circumstances around you. You need to Pay Attention when youre on at the streets. We have seen a lot of people walking on main artery0s are ski only main arteries. Plows cant stop. Im also asking people not to shovel snow into the street. We have had circumstances where we have had plow goes down streets and then we have had people shoveling the snow into the street. Its difficult. Not maybe places to shovel the snow but im asking you not to put snow back on the street because that will cause a problem for us, Public Safety problem and issue trying to get plows around the city of boston. We have been reporting on the case of a husband and wife from georgia who vanished last week while they were trying to buy their dream car off craigslist. Investigators arrested him yesterday after they say they found the victims bodies next to their suv in south georgia and they say both of them died of gunshot wounds to the head.
