Harris however, a growing number of state governors say they are nowhere close to being able to reopen, as the team, as they team up on a decision. This, as new york state has joined los angeles, washington, d. C. , in extending their stay at home orders 15th. The new york pause has worked. We have closed down, its worked. Thats how we controlled the beast, thats how we got it down to. 9. However, we are not there yet. The new york pause policies, the closedown policies, will be extended in coordination with other viewers, until may 15th. We are not yet in a place where we need to be, so that we can start reopening. You need protocols in place that, frankly, we dont have at the moment. That we will need before reopen. What are some of the calculations now that need to be made . I know that each state is different, as i welcome to the program, is there an overarching thing that the president would loolook at . I think we said is the key. Seats at the same. Some are densely populated. New york, new jersey. Those states are needing to be closed longer. If you are in wyoming, if you are in montana, if you are in other parts of rural america, there may not be a reason for you to be old up at home like a hermit right now. That decision is best made closer to the people being affected by it. Thats why i think the president would be very wise to make this decision, leave this in the hands of the governors and the mayors and the people closest to their populations. Some have overreacted, harris. Some have been heavyhanded. Some of it is illogical and irrational, and i think they will pay the price for having usurped peoples basic liberties. You know, we can talk about that, but this is a ramping up of the economy again. It wont happen with a flip of the switch. Itll happen with sort of an entrance ramp, if you will, to the freeway. Harris i have a followup to that. Im going to point out south dakota, and the governor there. You say some have been overreacting, or heavyhanded. Certainly thats the case. You see people protesting now. Look at michigan, where they feel like some of the rules are just arbitrary. When you look at the popping of the case number is now, and the problems they are having with covid19 in a place like south dakota, that hadnt been a hot spot, that hadnt seen those things, and the governor had taken a different way. The medical professionals have said it could happen any place, and that it likely will. What do you do with that . It certainly can happen any place. I think thats where the basic protocols of hand washing, social distancing, not doing the traditional handshake, there are some things that still can be done. But we cannot wait until the very last case of covid19 is eradicated before there is some level of Economic Activity in this country. There will be a country to come back to. That is the calculated risk, and it is one that has to be taken. That sounds rather audacious, but harris, we cannot hold up in our homes for 18 months. The economy wont handle it. Im not kidding, there will be nothing to come back to. Small Business Owners will not have a business. People who work there wont have jobs. The good old government cant just keep shelling out trillions of dollars indefinitely. Theres got to be a point at which we get back to work, we take precautions, and if there does come another hot spot or, lets say, a significant outburst, then you deal with it. The statistics today, governor, 13 of the United States workforce sidelined. 22 Million People. You have a lengthening, for some of the states, to sit by. Its tough. Those people are i set it last hour. They are not just sidelined, they are suffering. Meanwhile, protesters, and mentioned just a moment ago, held a rally today at the Virginia State capital, demanding that state reopen. Similar protests broke out in other states. We showed you the one yesterday in michigan live. Thousands of drivers shut down traffic, some even getting out of their cars on the sidewalks. Governor Gretchen Whitmer of michigan is easing her stay at home order. At least they want her to. However, the governor says the protests but the public in danger. Watch. I understand the frustration that people are feeling. Im frustrated, too. None of us wants to be here in this moment, but we are. We know that this rally endangered people. This kind of activity will put more people at risk. Sadly, it could prolong the amount of time we have to be in this posture. Harris governor, this country was kind of founded on people who are willing to risk themselves for freedom. Is that what this is, or Something Else . No, i think it is. Lets be very specific about wow what people were upset about. For example, this was a heavyhanded approach by the governor michigan. She said you could go to a store that was open, but if there were seeds on the shelf that you could go and buy and plant in garden and grow your own produce, you couldnt purchase the seeds. You could go to the store, you could look at the seeds, but you couldnt touch them and you couldnt purchase them, and you couldnt go home and plant them. Because she would rather have you go to a supermarket and touch produce that may have been touched by dozens of people before you, total strangers, who may have been infected with the virus, then to go and find your own garden. People arent stupid. I think a lot of americans are saying, look, i get the whole idea of protection and not having a Major League Baseball game, even not having big congregated events. But telling me i cant plant a garden, but i can go to the store where they sell the seeds . Its that kind of lunacy that people are just disgusted with. I think of howard beale, if he were alive today, from the old movie network, 1979, we are mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore. Harris what drives that . You been a governor, you know what its like to have a crisis at hand. What drives that sort of arbitrary stamp down that we saw . Particularly in that state. Obviously, virginia, they are feeling it, too. I think a lot of it is the stubbornness on the part of some elected leaders who want to make sure everybody understands they are in charge. The best form of leadership is servant leadership. Its where you understand that the people dont work for you. You work for them. You act in their best interest. You dont try to exercise your power, you try to do Everything Possible to give them the power to live their lives. When government officials forget who they work for, and they somehow believe that they are lord bosses over the citizens rather than that the citizens give them a job temporarily so that they can serve the citizens, i think that is a recipe for disaster and i think we are seeing it in cities and states across the country. It leads to rebellion. That is what led to the forming of this country. People had enough of being told what they could do, and they said, thats it, no more. Harris thats what i was talking about. In earlymidjanuary, harris, i began to see reports from wuhan that viral pneumonia of unknown origin was starting to spread. Even back that far ahead doubts that it originated in that food market. The british journal published an authoritative study saying more than a third of the earliest cases had no contact with that food market. Then i began to dig a little deeper, and the circumstantial evidence piles up pretty quickly. China has these two labs in the vicinity of wuhan. They research bats, the research coronavirus. China has a history of bad laboratory safety. And the Chinese Communist party was hysterically spinning in january to spread the story about this food market, which it even now acknowledges is not correct. It was disappearing, scientists that were involved in the story, sending secret police to intimidate others who were trying to blow the whistle on chinese social media. Even to this day it continues its allies. Thats why i believe bret baiers bombshell story last night just lends more circumstantial evidence to the case that china is responsible for unleashing this pandemic on the world. And china has to pay the price and consequence is for that. Harris all right, a a couple of things. You know, at the defense department, you got secretary esper, the joint chiefs chairman milley, general milley, both saying nothing is conclusive yet. And then the other part and all of this is youve got china, what do you do with them . What do we do in the gap, until there is that conclusive evidence . We still need information from them. So, harris, we may never have conclusive, direct evidence. We never will have the Chinese Communist party confessing to their incompetence, their corruption, and their allies. However, there is a lot of circumstantial evidence to point to those labs as the source of this pandemic. There is virtually no evidence, circumstantial or direct, to point to a food market in wuhan. It takes a bit of common sense to say the Chinese Communist party needs to be held responsible. Even if we cant establish it conclusively, we still know that they covered up this virus for weeks in december and january when they could have been forthright, when they could have tried to arrest its spread in wuhan. Instead, they made the decision, deliberately, to allow this virus to spread around the world. In my opinion, xi jinping had decided, if china is going to suffer, the rest of the world, especially the United States, is going to suffer. There has to be consequences for those actions. Harris when you say pay the price for every life lost, every job lost, what does that look like . First, i have introduced legislation that will amend the foreign sovereignties immunity act, which would allow those americans who have been infected by the virus, whether theyve lost loved ones where theyve been sick themselves, or theyve lost a job or had a business close, to sue chinese officials. This is modeled on what is inflation thats been done in the past. For instance, most recently, the victims of the 9 11 terror attacks. We also need to force china to pay by losing their manufacturing base. We have outsourced our jobs in factories to china for the last 30 years. That has to stop and it has to stop now, especially in critical sectors Like Pharmaceuticals or medical devices were telecommunications. There has to be farreaching consequences for chinese treachery. Harris you know, as youre speaking, it takes me back to just a moment ago when we saw that white house advisor, peter navarro, say these words, senator. In just two weeks, and less than two weeks, the sba, the Small Business administration, which is running this pp program, the paycheck protection program, they put out more than three to 50 billion in loans to over 1. 2 million businesses. Thats more than ten times what they did in all of 2019. Its an extraordinary record. It should be congratulated for having done that, along with all the community banks. There are 30 million Small Businesses in america, even if they get the extra money they want from nancy pelosi in congress. Still doesnt do anything to fill in that huge gap. We just have to have to get america working again. Its that simple. Harris if they are 30 million Small Businesses and we know they do the hiring of about twothirds of the economy. They are very important. Is there an equal Playing Field when you try and get one of these sba loans . Does it matter if you are mom and pop come as my parents were come with a barbecue rib restaurant . You only have a handful of employees and nobodies out of work. Or maybe you have three times that. Maybe a bigger company. Is an even Playing Field, do they look at the need . How does that work . It is not. For a simple reason, the sba loans are being put out by ban banks. They dont even have a relationship with a bank, let alone a bank that has a relationship with a Small Business administration. If you are mom and pop business, review borrowed money or use your savings in order to start a business rather than going to a bank, you dont have you have to develop a relationship with the bank. To do that, its very difficult difficult thing to do. At the beginning of the introduction, it was very positive until the new york governor came out with his announcement that we are going to have another two weeks delay before they open the economy. The longer we wait to reopen the economy, the tougher its to g get. More jobs jobs that will be lo lost. Harris i know people say you are so new or eccentric, i dont live in new york. Im next door. It is a huge economy. New york and california are slowing down, it affects a lot of people. God rest my mothers old is not only big economy, its an extensive economy. It depends whether you have direct deposit, relationship with the Social Security administration pray that you get your direct deposits rather than waiting for the checks. If you have direct deposit you should get them in about a week. People see them popping up in a checking account. If you have mail checks, that could be as long as a couple weeks. Dr. Adalja we dont need to be less optimistic, we need to know the limitations. Antibody testing is going to be very important for understanding who in a community has been infected for Public Health decisions that need to be made. For an individual level, it is important to know that we dont know what the standard of immunity is, meaning we have some level of antibody below that, you are probably susceptible. Above that, youre protected. We dont know with that level is. We dont know how to standardize test kits prayed some people that get infected dont develop antibodies. There is a lot of questions and a lot of scientific inquiry that needs to be done before we can fully operationalize it. But they are promising and general. Harris just real quickly, dr. Nesheiwat, i want to get your take on it and how widespread we need to look at people if we do get this far. Dr. Nesheiwat sure, i definitely think this is one tool that is critical in opening up the community, normalizing our country. Because it can give us very good information, such as whether youre an active carrier. Are you an active recent dramatic carrier . Have you had it in the past . If it has good sensitivity and specificity, we have accuracy, precision, and out accurate is it. Im only aware of one or two tests, for example, that is fda approved. Its very important we have these tests. They have to be accurate. We dont want to give a sense of false security, sending people out into the community. Harris i guess my big question is, which is most important . Since we havent even got to the point we were testing and a people to see if they have covid19. There has been talk about people with type o blood being either immune or not getting the full blown virus. Is there any truth to that . Dr. Adalja . Dr. Adalja we know that blood type sometimes is a surrogate for certain types of immune system differences that people have. There have been some reports from china, anecdotal, not fully vetted, that show maybe people with type o blood are less likely to get infected or get severe disease. This isnt something that has been established fully. This is something that we need to study further as we get out. There are reasons to believe certain blood types might have different reactions to different viruses. This may be another example of that. Harris here is connie m.
