The state of illinois. Pete that was multiple governors yesterday and we kick off today with a fox news alert. Today, new jersey expected to tighten restrictions amid the crippling coronavirus pandemic. Cars lining up at a testing site in the state as the governor considers a stay at home order. Jedediah connecticut, illinois and new york following californias lead ordering tens of millions of people to stay home unless its an emergency. Illinois starting log down today until april 7th. Connecticut on monday night. With that we welcome you into fox friends on a saturday morning. Im todd piro. Jedediah jedediah. Pete and im pete. Its good to see all of you this morning in a little bit of a different setup which we have gotten used on this annual and all getting use to in a different way. I have to share with you the cover of the New York Post this morning which sums up the way a lot of people are feeling. Certainly jed, can you speak to it here in new york city. This is lady liberty. No title, no text needed just she is at home by herself in her apartment which, jed, i think, you know, as you look at what is happening here in new york. A lot of people feeling the same way, huh . Jedediah its been really scary in new york city for me. I have an infant at home as everyone knows. I think what people dont realize oftentimes around the country. A lot of people saying store up a lot of stuff or leave if you can, leave your apartment. And i dont have a car. A lot of people in manhattan, places like manhattan dont have cars. You dont have a lot of room to store a lot of stuff. You start to look at the space and panic a little bit. Its easy to see those numbers and start to wonder oh my gosh if im stuck in the apartment for two or three weeks . Can i get enough food in here. I have been getting rid of furniture and putting up shelving to have things of diapers. Not crazy like im not ripping stuff off shelves. But you start doo start to think about things like that when a different way when you are confined to tight space. The first person i thought of. Its getting a little scary. I know people at home relate to that its something that i in my lifetime have never faced before. Todd one of those things to your point, jed, folks in the middle of the country yes they are undergoing something similar. Here in new york its definitely a different feel than other places in the country say for california and illinois. What you are experience something a new york thing young and old alining. Take a look at the latest u. S. Numbers. Here they are on your screen right now. As we have been reporting these numbers are consistently changing right now at least 19624 cases and the number on the right 246 deaths so far. Pete yeah. I mean we have seen those numbers grow significantly. The reason why we have been told from the white house and elsewhere as we get more testing the numbers are going to up as we didnt have the number of testing kits we needed. The numbers were artificially low. Now they are going to go up and continue to go up. You heard from throws governors time and time again the whole idea is flatten the curve, right . Make sure you suppress the amount of people that need hospital care so you dont overwhelm the system which has the other effect of influencing on the economic side. You hear these you were talking a lot about essential employees and essential industries. You know, businesses shutting down, how long will they be shut down and how do workers gte pay they have been used to and of course that brings us to the bills being considered on capitol hill which we will also talk about. I spoke to a lot of Business Owners over the weekend i have a loft friends who own Small Business and they are really concerned about what to do. They threa dread the idea of lag off employees. Not only new york but throughout the country how to manage this. Minimal effects on other families too they have families to feed and they are scared. We have to remember we are all in this together and feeling it differently but definitely feeling it in the some way. The white house is denying rumors of a nationwide quarantine. Pete top officials slamming reports as fake news as they fight the growing pandemic. Todd Lucas Tomlinson joins us from the pentagon with the very latest. Good morning. Good morning, i goose, thats right. Top pentagon Officials Say there is no way any of those rumors are true about any kind of martial law being declared or any kind of nationwide lockdown. In fact, there is going to be no National Guard troops staging at stadiums. The head of the National Guard posted on twitter i hear about unfounded rumors about National Guard troops facing a nationwide quarantine. Let me be clear, there is no such discussion. In case you are still not convinced chad wolf also issued the following statement on twitter, quote hearing a lot about texts from quote friends at dhs or friends with connections at dhs say that dhs is planning a National Lockdown. This is not true. Do not believe the disinformation campaigns. Please do not pass it along. Use trusted local and federal government sources. In new york the army corps of engineers is exploring ways to convert more than 10,000 rooms from existing hotels and College Dorms into makeshift hospital rooms to treat those infected with the virus. As a point of comparison. The largest hospital in new york just has over 1900 rooms. And this as the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise. The u. S. Now has over 19,000 cases, 260 people have died. There are now 67 cases in the u. S. Military. Yesterday dr. Fauci told bill hemmer he expects the number of coronavirus cases to spike in the next few weeks, guys. Pete lucas, thank you very much. Jed you mentioned seeing military vehicles in your neighborhood when we chatted breathily this morning. I can tell you i serve in the National Guard. Im on email lists about this. Certainly have heard nothing. It all depends on what state you are in and what your duty assignment is. So far certain state National Guard responding to certain local issues to respond to local Law Enforcement and where governors need assistance. The idea of a National Quarantine from the National Guard there is no validity. Jedediah on my drive here the driver showed me a video of someone had taken and said look at the military rolling in. Coming in from long island, i think he said. The thing is when you see images like that for someone like me, i wasnt in the military. Im not, you know, completely familiar with what the protocol is when Something Like that happenings. That can also be very alarming. I think its very important for people like you, pete, that have the ability to really handle that clarification to just reassure the public that that is not necessarily a cause for alarm and to really quantify what exactly that means on the ground. Todd and to that point for the National Guard as across the country to do what theyre doing to atphourpbs what theyre doing here at some point we have talked about potentially the army coming in and setting up medical facilities throughout many, many cities in our nation i think to jeds point it would be important to let the nation know this is what these individuals dressed in fatigues are doing they are not here inflicting national law. If anything if you see someone in a military uniform you should be assured the government is putting them there to double down on the medical effort doing in this country and not related to martial law. Its important to Pay Attention and important for the National Guard to clarify. Something else that the president has been focused on is controlling who comes in and out of our country. You remember he quickly closed travel from china when we realized where the chinese virus was coming from. Well, Additional Border restrictions have been announced by the president on our northern and southern border. Here is what he said yesterday in the press briefing. These new rules and procedures will not impede lawful trade in congress. The actions were taken together with our north American Partners will save countless lives concerned about the Great Public Health consequences of mass uncontrolled cross border movement. Every week our Border Agents encounter thousands of unscreened, unvetted and unauthorized entries from dozens of country infantries. And we have had this problem for decade. Decades. You know the story, now with the National Emergencies and all of the other things we have declared we can actually do something about it. Jedediah for me, this was a reassuring step by the administration. Because obviously unscreened entries are a problem regardless particularly now in a state of energy witstate ofnational emer. Todd this isnt necessarily policy based in light of the immigration discussion we have been having in this nation over the case of the last three years. Closing the northern and southern border to keep everyone, not just the United States but also folks there in mexico and canada somewhat safe. Pete what im basically told effective li if someone comes across the border illegally they can be detained and immediately deported back to mexico. How that is actually be applied in ports of entry, there is mixed information about how difficult that is for that to happen. But, effectively, it cuts through all the red tape of what our Border Patrol agents normally have to deal with, for reasons as you guys mentioned of health and public safety. No one is come in. You are going back. We will figure it out later. Jedediah thats right. Pete speaking of something you cant really figure out later these bills on capitol hill that are moving forward that are supposed to give stimulus to people hurting right now. The Senate Negotiators are going to meet again today after working through the night as they should. But missing the deadline they were supposed to reach for a coronavirus stimulus bill. Senate majority Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell said the vote will be tomorrow. What do you make of capitol hill handling this right now . Jedediah they were coming together. The president was talking about this. This isnt a time to be republican or democrat. This is a time to come together to defeat. Take a listen to what he had to say. Incredible job. It wasnt their fault. There is tremendous hope. I think we are going to come out stronger, better, bigger in every way we learned a lot. We learned on reliance, who to rely on who not to be rely on. Our country has been incredible the way we pulled together including senator schumer we had a wonderful conversation. We both want to get to a solution. Seeing people who werent speaking getting along well because we all have one common aim and thats to get rid of this invisible enemy and get rid of it fast and go back to the kind of economy we had and maybe even better. Jedediah thats reassuring i hope that is actually whats going on behind the scenes. It always least when you look at times of tragedy or crisis and you see the ability of democrats and republicans come together. You also wonder why thats so impossible to do under ordinary circumstance. Im glad to see it happening right now. Obviously this is a scary time for many and we dont need them stagnant. Todd you heard the president s words. I know i have talked to a number of staunch conservation over the last week. They look forward to liberal governor Andrew Cuomos press conferences on a day in and day out business. One victim we can all agree its partisanship so far. At least thats the hope going forward. We will see how long this lasts during this crisis. And then hopefully beyond. Pete it might be a temporary victory at least for now. You are right. Good point. Appreciate it. Go over to Carley Shimkus. She is with us all morning long and has additional headlines. Carley got a big one at that. Coronavirus wreaking havoc on Police Departments in two major cities. So were asking everyone to be selfless for others so that we can protect those who are most susceptible to this virus. Dr. Jerome adams a question i often get asked is, why should young people care about the spread of coronavirus . Well we know that people with underlying medical conditions over the age of 60 are at highest risk, but theyve got to get it from somebody. Dr. Anthony fauci social distancing is really physical separation of people. Dr. Deborah birx its what we refer to when we ask people to stay at least six feet apart. Dr. Anthony fauci not going to bars, not going to restaurants, not going to theaters where there are a lot of people. It all just means physical separation so you have a space between you and others who might actually be infected or infect you. Dr. Jerome adams we all have a role to play in preventing persontoperson spread of this disease which can be deadly for vulnerable groups. For more information on how you can social distance please go to coronavirus. Gov we continue to review the data from around the globe. In italy we are seeing another concerning trend that the mortality in males seem to be twice in every age group of females. Pete in fact, data shows in italy men make up nearly 60 of confirmed coronavirus cases and over 70 of deaths. Jedediah similarly in china men make up half of cases and over 60 of deaths. Todd why do men seem to be affected more . Lets ask fox news medical contributor dr. Janette nesheiwat. Thank you for being here. Thats the 64,000 question. Why . So, exact theology of why there is this discrepancy is unknown. What we suspect is it could be an immodernal influence. For example estrogen in women have been shown to provide protective properties. Thats one reason. Plus, also, women tend to seek medical care earlier than men. And when they are in the hospital there is variations in the type of care. On top of that women are more prone to what we call autoimmune diseases. This might make their immune system stronger if you will. Then we look at smoking. More men smoke than women. So this could cause more damage to the cells in the lungs putting men more at higher risk of complications and higher risk of death. So all these factors play a role and thats why we see that women tend to outlive men by about seven years. Jedediah thats fascinating stuff. We actually have viewer questions for you, several, actually. We are going to start with an email from sandra. She asks im 66 years old and have seasonal asthma. I have done a lot of coughing and no fever. Is a fever absolutely necessary with covid19 . Thats a great question. No. Can you still have a virus and not have a fever. You would tend to be an outlier is what we call. If you came in with a lot of coughing for a long period of time, i would listen to your heart and lungs. We would talk about possibly doing a chest xray to make sure that there isnt Something Else going on like even a bacterial pneumonia. That causing you to cough, which is a viral ininfection. Make sure you have the proper medication to help manage your as marks your inhaler. Maybe you need cough medicine, those sorts of things. Todd next question is for joe. Can i lee my window open for fresh air without jeopardizing myself . Yes. You can leave that window open. Get that fresh air. We want you to have that circulation. Its actually good four. Sunshine, circulation very beneficial. This virus is not its not airborne like traditionally like we see with tuberculosis or chicken pox or measles. This is transmitted from coughing, sneezing, water droplet particles. If someone is coughing and sneezing those viral particles can stay in the air for a few hours. But this is not considered an originally airborne disease like tuberculosis, for example. Pete dr. Janette nesheiwat, thank you for breaking this down. Getting answers is critically important at this time. Thank you for breaking it down. God bless you. She is a great guest and we have a number of fantastic guest coming up this morning. They were late with their flights. We gave them a period of time. They didnt make it. But we are looking to get them out. Pete President Trump speaking out after the government of peru closed its borders leaving hundreds of americans stuck within the country. Spring breaker dan west and john dew among the americans trying to find their way home and they join us now. Dan and john, thank you very much for being on fox friends this saturday morning. First of all, you went you had a trip planned for spring break. A lot of people do that everyone does that every year. At what point did you realize maybe this was a poor time to go on spring break . Obviously you left thinking it was okay. When did you realize hey you might be in bad shape . Yeah. I mean, i ended up leaving on thursday. Not like last thursday. And things kind of seemed like they were fine. But things evolved so quickly where saturday and then like going into sunday, you start to hear more about italy, you start hearing a lot more about the measures that are happening in the United States. And things like in california and florida, new york. And then all of a sudden the president announces that they are closing borders here in peru and that completely took us off guard. Pete i can attest to that that thursday, friday, saturday, there was a lot of uncertainty. Things happened very quickly. The perception started to change. So you tried to get to the airport on sunday. There was so much wright is revolving whether or not we could get home. We went to the airport around 3 00 a. M. On monday morning. And it was hundreds of people at the airport all trying to get out. All people that didnt have tickets. It was not just americans, americans, mexicans, argentinians. All trying to get out of the country. At first we didnt get any help from the u. S. Embassy. We didnt get any answers. The department of Homeland Security didnt know what was going on. None of the airlines knew what was going on. And so we really have gathered with a lot of other measures on whats app. Hit capacity. Telegram. 600 people there thousand of people on the facebook. Petition circulating over 1600 now. And i mean were on fox friends. So thank you for telling our story. We are getting more optimistic. And we are hearing now the president announced that they are going to be helping us out. We are hearing flights morocco. We saw that united charter landed in lima yesterday and took some americans back to washington, d. C. And the u. S. Embassy said that they are working to get everyone out. They are working on lima first and then they are coming to could you say co, so we are just crossing our fingers and hoping our time is soon. We are optimistic things can change quickly. We have our fingers crossed. Pete as they have already. You have done work organizing raising awareness and connecting with other americans which is the way to solve it at the end of the day. Good luck to you both and thank you for sharing your story with us on fox friends. We appreciate it . Thank you so much, pete. We appreciate it. Pete take care, guys. So a lot of what im going to tell you is based on my personal experience about having been on a farm but also some general things about farming. Pete guy, im sharing this, some stuff we are doing at home he had hegseth school for Higher Learning. Every day there is a library lecture. And yesterday we had a guest appearance from my parents both of which grew up on farms. One on a dairy farm. Another a chicken farm. So you can see four of my kids absorbed their information in this lecture learning about milking cows and taking care of chickens. And thats my father right there who is the guest lecturer at that moment. Guys, maybe can you make an appearance at guest lecturer hes in the future at the hegseth school for Higher Learning. They looked like they were behaving so well. You looked like you were doing something right. Pete not in the picture is the ruler which is very important to be wielded if they arent listening and i use as it necessary. Todd if you have this so under control, there are a lot of parents struggling trying to teach those kids. Can those other parents send their kids to your house . Pete everyone is welcome. You can see the board there that was politics. I end up sort of just writing. You take your thoughts wherever you can go. We might end up throwing a few of these on fox nation eventually for folks to watch. Jedediah good for you doing stuff like farming. Those are practical skills people like me that grew up in a city dont have but should have. Pete i dont know anything about farming. I learned a lot too in that lecture as well. Thanks, guys. Todd as covid19 cases increase in the u. S. Taking a tool on military operations overseas. Jedediah u. S. Is planning to withdraw hundreds of troops from iraq because of the pandemic. Pete how will this impact our fight against isis . Here to discuss is retired marine bomb tech and Fox News Contributor joey jones. Joey, thanks for being here this morning. I appreciate it. When you look at the fight against isis where we are in iraq. We have been looking to draw down. Is this a natural thing . How much is in response to the pandemic as well . It looks like the movement of troops are a little bit more planned i dont know what the numbers the pentagon feels like it needs to appropriately fight isis or whatever group it may be calling itself this year. There were previously planned troop movements to include a drawdown. The good news is the Iraqi Security forces decided to halt their own operations. We are there to support them, to train them. If they are not working, our troops arent doing anything there and i like the idea of getting them safe. Pete absolutely. Jedediah joey, we have a statement from the combined joint task force about this operation. Adjusting positioning in iraq for two reasons, long term adjustments to the force to success in the campaign against isis and shortterm moves to protect the force during the coronavirus pandemic. What do you make of this statement . Well, its government speak to always if they are having to react quickly to have kind of a backup excuse. What we had planned on doing is what w. That said there were previous announcements. This is part of the trump doctrine strategic and surgical as opposed to daily tactical big troop movement. It does fall in lion with what the Trump Administration is trying to accomplish. The only thing suspect about it is isis and i do issue have been more active as of late and what will come from it. Ultimately the American People want troops home and this is another step towards that at the end of the day, we have a virus that is attacking the world and it makes to us have our women md women in a world to be quarantined. We dont have the medical facilities we have over here even. Todd 67 cases of coronavirus in the military as of yesterday. We want to switch gears now as we know. We have been reporting on colleges and universities throughout the country closed, shut down. But the president is expect to sign a bill allowing g. I. Bill benefits to continue. Why is that so important for our student veterans . Well, the important thing to understand is there are moments in time where Congress Actually does its job. And this is one of those moment. I worked on the House Veterans Affairs committee and saw a lot of pieces of legislation come through where republican or democrat, sometimes its just hard to get congress to spend a little bit more money towards a good thing. What have you here is if you are taking online courses only, you received a much smaller g. I. Bill benefit than if you were taking inperson classes and online courses. So to say it doesnt take as much time out of your day and maybe you can work if you take online courses. I think in 2020 thats no longer true, even though this has changed to allow if veterans have inperson classes that were moved online, they could still receive that larger benefit. I hope the next step is to look at veterans that are fulltime online and provide them that larger benefit for the future without needing a virus to do it. So i hope this is a first step, not a bandaid. Pete interesting. It could be a catalyst for a larger change thats been needed for quite some time but not addressed in a moment like. This absolutely. Pete i have seen pictures of your gun room we know you are prepared and we glad you are, joey. Getting work done this week. Pete i know it is. You are a good man. Appreciate your time, brother. Take care. Now, lets toss it over to Carley Shimkus who has some additional headlines. Carley thats right. Todd stories of communities coming together emerging as americans take on the coronavirus pandemic. Jedediah one leaving bottles of corona on their neighbors doorstep if you contract covid19 and isolated place the bottle on your porch along with a list of essential needs. Hope this is the only corona you get. Todd that doctor joins us now dr. Singh and dr. Lindsey shroyer. Thank you so much for getting up with us this morning. Why did you guys decide to do this . One of my patients actually told me that her son was in china and was feeling very isolated. And i knew that we would reach a point where coronavirus could hit us really hard. I thought if we had a social support structure that we could build around our community that would help us in the days ahead. Jedediah you are a pulmonologist i found out. Right now you are the front line of this thing. What is this like for you . Its very stressful. I think we are doing the best we can. But i am just one of the many people that are on the front lines. All these people who work in the hospital, the cafeteria workers, respiratory therapists, nurses, all the providers are on the front line. Pete lindsey, i want to bring new here. Obviously your husband is coming home at night not only after doing the work that he has been doing in your neighborhood but also doing work, trying to save lives right now in a pretty scary time. How do you feel when he comes home on a day in and day out basis . How scared are you that he is going to bring something in to your home with your Young Children . Very scared. We are you know, we have a routine set up each day where he undresses in the garage, heads right to the shower. We work as a team to coordinate the process and, you know, were working hard to keep everything as clean as possible. And sanitize everything nonstop. Just like everyone else. Jedediah lindsey i love you brought some humor into this. I recently started following comedians on social media because i feel like we need to remember to smile, to laugh. I think thats also good for your immune system every now and then. What has been the response by people to this effort that you put out there . So far, you know, the moment we did it, it was during the day, i think it was a sunday. And as we were walking out, an elderly man approached us and he, you know, he just said thank you so much. This was really a really nice gesture. So something so simple, you know, it goes a long way in a timeline. This. Todd dr. Singh, we have been focused so much on new york, california, illinois. What can you tell us about the response in atlanta . We are starting to see a bunch of cases now and we are trying to do our best to try to sort out the people who are really ill vs. The people who are not so ill and try to provide the best care to each of these patient population. I feel like we are still early in the stage. And we are going to get a little bit of the hammer in the coming days. Jedediah lindsey, do you have any advice . I get a lot of messages from people who have Family Members who are in the Healthcare Industry right now and are really worried and have a hard time bat ling the anxiety that comes with that do you have any advice for them right now . No. I think i need some advice as well. I mean i think family, friends, you know, a nightly glass of wine it sounds silly but its been helping me so far. You know, we are all in this together and we are all just hoping for the best outcome. I think fear is because of lack of proper knowledge regarding the coronavirus. And whenever we dont have knowledge, there is an underlying fear associated with the process. And the more we know about the disease process and how we can treat it and how we can prevent it with vaccination, todd question for both of you, what do you want the world to know about the response from the medical community to this horrible pandemic . I just want the world to know we are trying to do our best. Follow basic social practice like socialized relations try help us at this time. And just be nice to each other. And just to add to that im hearing a lot of friends saying well, you know, we have to live our lives. How much social distancing can we do . How long do we have to do this . Yeah. No one the situation is not ideal for anyone, but the sooner we do it, the sooner we comply, the sooner we can get back to living a normal life. Whatever our new normal may be. Jedediah thank you for being here and thank you for what you are doing in your community. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Jedediah coming up, truckers nationwide are critical in getting supplies to people who need it the most. Their fight to keep it moving as the world stands still next. Jedediah americas Trucking Industry hit with unprecedented blocks near the unprecedented pandemic. Todd pending a letter to the president describing new issues lack of parking, rest areas being shut down and reports of shippers and receivers locking their access to facilities. Pete now one of americas truck stop chains doing essential park to make sure truckers can keep serving america. Pilot flying j jimmy hazard lynn. Thank you for being here this morning we appreciate it. I will say, i think speak for a few people when i say when im going on a crosscountry trip i see your facilities. You sort of take them for granted. You know they are used all the time by Truck Drivers. What are you doing to help these essential employees who are serving our country every day . Thanks for having us on. Important to remember 70 of the goods that move around the United States on a daily basis are transported by truck. And even more important to understand that almost all the food that moves around the country is transported by truck. So our job at pilot flying j is to make sure we are doing a great job of taking care of the Trucking Companies and Truck Drivers who are doing such a great job of moving these goods around the country. Jedediah what are. So challenges that you face at this time, jimmy . Well, like everybody, staffing is a challenge. Its our job to make sure that we have fuel, that we have food. And that we have Retail Convenience items that the drivers might need. Most people might thought understand, drivers sleep in their trucks. So truck stops become a place for them not only to fuel and not only to eat, but their entertainment center. Its our job to make sure that we are open, staffed and ready to take care of the men and women who are doing such a great job for our country. Todd besides jeopardizing the health of these individuals. These sort of negative actions being taken against truckers could really hurt the supply chain. They could. They could. We have done, and i think various institutions around the country have done a great job of ensuring that truck stops remain open. We were on the phone with the White House Monday night ensuring that truck stops would be declared an essential service and same thing with the department of transportation. So when california or illinois or new york or new jersey or connecticut, some of the states have gone on virtual lockdown to shut things down, our truck stops are able to stay open. Our men and women are able to come to work every day so we can keep the trucks and products on these trucks moving. Pete briefly, you have been in touch with folks at the white house. Describe how they have engaged with you in this moment. They have been super. Last weekend when it was obvious that things were becoming more serious, like i said, we reached out monday and had phone calls late into the night monday night. Ensuring that we would be declared an essential service that our stops would be able to stay open and they have been great to work with. We have also volunteered to have our sites in places from the disease. Those talks are ongoing. And i think those could occur over the next few weeks. But we have been in Constant Contact with both the white house and the department of transportation. Pete jimmy, moments about this where you are reminded about the stuff you take for granted that provide all the Beautiful Blessings we have in this nation including pilots flying j. Thank you for your time. I appreciate it . Thanks for having us on. Todd hospitals prepare for a surge in cases as line up outside testing sites. Symbicort is for copd, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It should not be taken more than twice a day. It may increase your risk of lung infections, osteoporosis, and some eye problems. Watch out, piggies ask your doctor if symbicort is right for you. If you cant afford your medication, astrazeneca may be able to help. Pete we begin this hour with a fox news alert. Right now more than 70 million americans on lockdown across the nation new york, illinois, california, and connecticut ordering residents to stay at home unless absolutely necessary. Jedediah new jersey expected to follow suit with increased restrictions today. Cars lining up at testing site as the governor considers a stay at home number. Todd number of cases soaring to past 19,000 in the u. S. 260 people have died. With that we bring you in to fox friends on a saturday morning. A lot to get you over the next three hours. We are going to bring you through what is quite frankly an unprecedented time in our history, guys. Pete it really is all of us when we are not here we are like home like everybody else watching our Television Screens absorbing the information in realtime trying to process this is historic moment, how worried should i be . How prepared should i be . How reassured should i be . Watching government officials, the president stepping up to the podium every single day and inform the public about whats happening and then make the decisions in our own lives about how we apply it. Jedediah lets bring in dr. Nicole saphier. She is here. She is going to talk to us about these latest tkwouplts. Nicole, welcome as always. Pete good morning. Hi, guys, good morning. Jedediah nicole, what do you make of you had trump declaring new york a major disaster area for coronavirus. You have new York Hospitals already being hit. You have lines at Testing Centers in new jersey causing issues. What do you make of these developments . Great question, jedediah. The truth is when people hear an emergency has been declared or disaster area has been declared. We all have to know that there is reasons behind this and its because they are trying to levy up funding. By declaring it a disaster area new york is now able to use federal funds through fema to help open makeshift hospitals like we have seen done in china and seen done in italy. These were very effective measure. What it allowed them to do were to take a mild illness and be treated outside of the hospitals effectively and also being able to isolate more people who maybe have tested positive but arent necessarily really sick with the illness. Which i have to remind everybody the far majority of people close to 90 who test positive are only going to have some mild symptoms and are not going to require the icu beds. The point is we are trying to make sure that there are enough icu beds for people that need them. Pete doctor, we have seen cases spike. They have gone up. We knew this would happen as testing increased. We are now hearing the National Institutes of health. They are warning, they are saying, there could be up to 70,000 cases in the u. S. By next week. Heres a quote from the National Institute of health. They said that doesnt necessarily mean that the outbreak has exploded at an even more rapid rate. It just means we are able to find out who is out there. Who is infected. Because testing is now going to be much more available throughout the country. So, when people listen, i think its legit to throw the numbers on the screen like we do. But when you are staring at numbers in red that go up all day long, how worried should people be or how predictable actually is this . I have been saying this for a while now that i hope people stop focusing on the numbers. Its good that we still have an idea and people do need to know that the numbers are going up thats exactly what we expect them to do. The more we test, the more we are going to have confirmed cases. We already have Community Spread here. Everyone testing positive right now you, lets remember if they are having symptoms right now that means they were edges posed to that five to seven days ago. Thats the incubation period. We just now have confirmed positives. The more strict social distancing we do the less Community Spread were going to have. So that is the whole goal is to see whats going to happen next week when it comes to the testing. Right now we are going to have a massive influx of positive cases because we are testing a lot of people that probably wrecks posed before we had strict social distancing measures. Im more curious to see whats going to happen to the next few weeks because thats when im hoping we are going to seat leveling off and eventually the decline in cases because people are adhering to the measures. Of the one thing i have to continue to remind people as we see the stock market go up and down and, you know, peoples attitudes keep shifting. This is not a time of stagnation like we have seen in the past say with the depression. This is a tangible issue that were dealing with right now it. Is temporary. Because it is being attacked on all sides from terms we have treatments being made, we have a vaccine being made. We have social distancing measures being made. And they are doing what they can to make sure that we have enough hospital beds. We are going to continue to get through. This and we will be on the other side of this soon enough. Todd along those lines, bill hemmer yesterday was asking dr. Anthony fauci about a time. And when you look at a lot of the things in your life and my life thats been cancelled. That target date of easter seems to pop out more often than not. So basically hemmer asked him hey, do you think this thing could be done . Will there be an american refresh your recollection . Here iresurrection if you look at the curve in the outbreak places we have experience, unfortunate experiences, look the a china, look at what happened in south korea, look at whats happening in italy, you see that the outbreak putters along and then it goes way up, peaks and then comes down. If you take a look at a at thisl duration of an outbreak its measured in a few weeks. I mean, the china one was about six or eight weeks before it was really way down. There is no question when you look at the various models, that is going to be few weeks. Todd dr. Saphier i hear that as a safe answer of saying i dont think this thing is done by easter. Your thoughts . I think we are all a little hesitant to put a time frame on it but i have been saying kind of the same time frame this whole time now. I think at this point for the next couple of weeks. We are continue going to see steep incline of cases, the more testing we do. However, i do think by the end of that four week mark, we are probably going to be seeing equilibrium. Im not saying everything is going to go back to business as usual that could take even longer. Maybe 6 to 8 weeks. Im really hoping with all of these measures thats being taken that we are going to see equilibrium within the next four to six weeks and then hopefully a decrease after that. It really does depend on how much people are actually adhering. We still see College Spring breakers down in miami. And as long as you have these clusters, you know, we are going to continue to see increased cases. Whats happening in the new york city area, i really think that we are going to get a good grip on this. And we are going to start seeing something positive within the next four to six weeks. But, i dont know. Pete i want to break this down a little bit. If you say five to seven days, later you show the symptoms and then you get tested and then the numbers group. Now we are talking 15 days. You say four to six weeks. For people with kids at home their school has been cancelled two or three weeks looking nearly april im speaking selfishly on this. Is it unrealistic schools will be open in april, look at other states closing down. This is going to go late april. This is going to may. Maybe the whole school year gets cancelled. I know you cant predict completely, but if you were to look forward based on what we know about the curve, what would you prepare people for . That is a great question, pete. I know you are doing a good job home schooling those kids. I watch you on social media. Pete trying. Time frame 15 days, four to six weeks, whatever have you heard, they all mean different things. So that 15 days that President Trump keeps referring, to that means we need to hunker down for 115 days. And if we are strict with our social distancing for 15 days, and that is likely going to really propel us to get to that equilibrium within the four to six week time frame. When school is going to come back . Honestly i dont know. My kids school says they are not coming back until mid april. We may be seeing schools open up before then. It just depends on the community. Each municipality has a different situation. I dont think its going to be on a National Level or even state level. Local municipality level. They will look at the number of cases and look at their positives and be really careful as to who they allow back. In just at our local high school it was Just Announced that there was someone who tested positive. A Family Member of one of the High School Students. So the entire High School Just got a phone call because they were still in school last week. So it really is going to depend on the local municipality. I hope we are going to start seeing some schools open come second, third week of april. But it depends on how things are doing at a local level. Jedediah doctor, i want to ask you about one aspect of the testing. A lot of companies have begun creating at home test kits makes people optimistic who are fearful to go to the test sites who are worried they are going to be get there and be in line six or seven hours and maybe not get seen. Are you optimistic about the aebg race oaccuracy of a home t . There are a lot of things that im hesitant when it comes to home testing. This goes even farther to like genetic testing and Everything Else people do at home. Especially when it comes to viral swabs. Those that sal swabs you have to jam it up there for anybody who has ever done it. When we do things to ourselves we tend not to go far enough. My other concern is im not sure we are actually getting all the way back through the nasal pharynx where it needs to be. If that comes back negative. That may be a false negative. The tests tend to be a false negative rate. The ones we rejected is because they had a false negative rate about 48 . They are not very accurate. But so that is the, been my point the area that would be difficult there i dont worry about the lab side of things. I worry about the person at home actually doing it. I also worry that we are going to be overutilizing reagents and other necessary parts to this whole process for people who dont need to be tested. We are running out of nasal swabs and reagents running low. If we have people purchasing home testing kits who maybe dont need it. Asymptomatic no sick contacts whatsoever because they are a little nervous you know who i am talking about may want these home tests at their own house. I just want to make sure that the testing availability is for those that we really need. Todd understood. We have time for one viewer question. It is from tom and he writes i had a Home Delivery of groceries and i wiped down each individual item. Was that necessary . Oh my gosh. You know, thats a great question. I will tell you, i have did that myself two days ago. I took everything out of the bags. Left them in the garage and i wind them down and brought the groceries in. My husband who is also a physician, we had the conversation yesterday. Is this really necessary . And the truth is its probably not necessary. But right now why not . We dont have anything else to do. Were not out going to work. You know, why not just wipe things down. I keep saying to pretend that everything has the virus on it and if you take best precautions to wipe things down and wash your hands, then you are drastically decreasing your likelihood of bringing the virus into your home. The truth is you are unlikely to get infected from touching Something Else. The most likely way that you are going to get infected with the virus is if you are standing next to someone who has it. Especially if they are symptomatic especially if they are coughing or sneezing. I dont believe there have been any reported transmission of inanimate ons. We have studies that show us viable virus particles. Pete doctor, you have me washing my hands. I love it. Pete i have yet to wipe down my groceries, that might be next. It may be a step too far. Pete hey, to each their own with prudence. Dr. Nicole saphier thank you so much for that insight this morning. Thanks, guys. Pete great stuff. Great show on tap as we mentioned earlier. Our next guest is one of them. Kaelyn came down with the virus while vacationing in europe becoming one of her first cases in the home state of florida. Now after two weeks of living with the symptoms the 29yearold says she is fully recovered and cleared by her States Department of health. She joins us live from tampa, florida. Welcome to the show. Good morning, how are you . Jedediah let me say that im grateful that you are feeling better that you are fully recovered. It sounds like you had symptoms that were on the milder side. But, first, tell us how did you contract the virus . You know, i had taken a two week trip over to europe was in spain, france and italy. And i think i got it in millan. I left the day before there was a really big outbreak and my guess would be maybe, you know, the transportation, the airport, somewhere there. But i think it i think i got it in millan. Jedediah how did you know that you were sick . What were your symptoms. The day before i was supposed to fly back to the u. S. I just wasnt feeling very well. On my flight back to jfk, i definitely had a fever. And that was my first indication. And then within the 12 hours, 13 hours of traveling by the time i got to the hotel, i was coughing up a green mucous and that immediately indicated that there was some type of respiratory infection and i called the cdc then. Jedediah how easy was it for you to get a test at that point . It wasnt. You know, i think at the time it was, you know, such a new thing for the u. S. , there was very few cases in the u. S. At the time. And i think the cdc didnt see me as a threat because i was coming from france and the outbreak in italy was so close to the time that i left. Looking back i wish i had stayed at jfk. I wish i was able to protect the people on my flight and, you know, the florida and tampa bay area. But i was cleared to fly back to tampa and when i got to florida, i really pressed the Florida Health department to test me as soon as possible. Jedediah now, at what point in the process did you become asymptomatic or do you still have any symptoms . I dont. Im asymptomatic. I was asymptomatic about two days before my first test, which would have been day 12 through my whole process. And then i was tested again on day 14 and i tested negative as well. So i was asymptomatic for, you know, the last four or five days of kind of the whole 14 day tkpwaurpb. Jedediah last question because you are 29 and young. What is your message to young people out there saying its no big deal. I will get it, i will get it mildly it wont be a big deal. What do you have to say to them. This virus is very unpredictable. You know, i think as young individuals, although we are healthy and we may not have the severe symptoms or we may not be high risk, but i think its very important to, you know, practice the social distancing and follow isolation protocols and follow these quarantine rules to protect those around us, to protect the rest of society so we can prevent this high spike in cases that were continuing to see. And, you know, thats difficult for a lot of the younger generation. Jedediah thank you so much for being here. Once again, so glad you recovered and a great message you just sent out to everyone. Thank you for having me. Jedediah coming up, keeping kids respond and smiling. How Police Officers around the country are helping out their communities. We will hear from one of them coming up next. Pete officers going above and beyond to help out their communities amid the coronavirus pandemic. During the stressful time where students are out of school. Many are taking on the challenge to spread joy and keep kids entertained. Joining us now are some of the officers doing their part. Deputy james seller of alabama, officer jerry brewer of hamden, connecticut and officer tony mccalca sorry if i got that wrong of fallon, new jersey. First of all thank you to your service when you do every day. Extraordinary times you are going above and beyond. James, im going to put you on spot first. We have a little sound of you doing a little singing lets play it and get to you react, watch. See if you can name this tale. When the saints go marching in. I played that okay a homemade incident piece of road, guitar string and soup can. Can jo. Use stuff around the house to make your own musical instrument. Pete canjo for the kids very cool. Tell us about it . Thats it. We do it all for the kids. Pete absolutely. How are you changing what you do every day . I bet you didnt anticipate putting out videos like this. Your job as someone who keeps us safe, how is that changing right now. Its a big difference going from 750 kid school to being in a car by myself so, you know, i felt a little lonely and i figured out try to entertain bring them a familiar face. Pete some people forget its mutually beneficial. Not just the kids benefit from you. You love and absorb the love of kids every day as well. Jerry any, have you done some similar things as well. Here is a video of you doing a little bit of reading. Watch. Wonky tonky had a child, it was a little girl. He hawaii. Hee haw. [giggles] pete you are inspired. A lot of major events pretty quickly just that american spirit of you who can i help . How can i connect . And, you know, we were just so inspired to do something a little bit different. Now, there are other officers, you know, probably all around the country reading to children. What my reading partner and i angela v. A. Wanted t vay connecn side. Do it from our homes we are human like everyone else. Going through the same struggles as covid. My 7yearold daughters bedroom is the back drop purr well walls a unicorn connecting on that human level and a lot of fun. Pete not the typical Police Background i want to be honest. You are breaking stereotypes here. Perfect. Thats exactly what i wanted to do. Pete you are doing well. Tony, and you are doing your part as well. We have some visuals of drawings that you are doing. Keep the busy campaign. Share that with us. It was quite simple. We were just looking at facebook feeds from different parents in the area after schools were closed on sunday night here in missouri. And just trying to find a way to alleviate some of that stress. Even if its just for 20 minutes at a time. Pete absolutely. 20 minutes at a time. How has your life changed. Talk to me about being on the job, the way you operate. How is it different today . Like my colleague said we are here for the community. We are here for the kids, especially. Nothing has changed as far as the service we are giving. We are modifying the ways in which we are giving it but still giving Exceptional Service here in fallon, missouri and i imagine across the country different Police Departments. Pete it was important we start with that topic going outside the box to help in your communities in ways people arent used to even a pink unicorn which is impressive. James, jeremy and tony, this is serious stuff though. Have you got 52 nypd officers reported infected with covid19. 152 detroit officers currently quarantined. So how are you in your Law Enforcement community, what roux doing to both provide services to the community, but also keep Law Enforcement safe . James, i will start with you. The main thing we are doing is we are trying to answer all the nonemergency calls by phone. And were practicing social distancing as well. And getting people outside their house rather than follow them in on calls. Pete its practical stuff day by day. Jeremy, there has got to be some scenarios though where social distancing just aint going to work. So you are still putting yourself at risk and enforcing the law. Yeah. Absolutely. Thats just the business we are in. If someone has an emergency, you have to call 911. We are there for you. I would like to echo what james said but also what my department is doing. We have a sanitation set up outside our parking garage. Any officer coming into the building, we stop at that Sanitation Center and we wash our hands and they also have disinfectant station for us to really clean up the cars and the department has done a great job at that. Pete welcome back Stores Closing down amid the coronavirus pandemic. Jedediah some of them changing the way they do business to keep up with the demand. Todd rob schmitt joins us live with a consumer roundup. Rob good morning to you. We have always known that cash is one of the dirtiest things that people handle. Coronavirus is making money even dirtier. Grub hub door dash saying no more cash trying to keep employees and customers safe from anything that can spread the germs to them. Viruses can live on surfaces and money for some time. In south korea, think about this. Leaders took paper money completely out of circulation which may have helped that nation successfully handle the spread of this virus. They have been doing over there poland, the central Bank Actually sends its money to the federal government to disinfect the money. And another interesting story out of all of this, at least one costco location is not accepting returns of many in demand products. You see them there, toilet paper, sanitizing wipes, lysol. The reason for this is unknown. Two possible motive preventing virus spread from products handled from customer. Or preventing the hoarding of in demand products as people will not be able to return large excesses of products once this virus is gone if you buy too much. Also there are an array of retailers closing their doors nation or even worldwide for a couple weeks if not longer. See the list, gap, Burlington Coat factory, tj max and j. C. Penney. All nonessential businesses shut down in new york. Some places retailers actually beat mayors and governors in this country to the punch and closed down before they even have to. We will send it back to you. Pete happening quickly in realtime, rob. Thank you very much. Host of varney and company. We need insight like yours in moments like this on the economic side. React first to the store closings, how its being handled. The government is essentially shutting down the economy. And business is compliant in shutting itself down. Retail, hotels, restaurant bars, manufacturing, factories are shutting down. And a raft of Small Businesses. Literally millions of Small Businesses have come to a dead stop. And the economy, as a result of this, is shrinking. There is a very well known economist and in fact Goldman Sachs is also saying this that in the april through june quarter, that three month period, our economy will contract at an astonishing rate almost 25 . We have never seen this before. It is a unique event. And it is changing, in my opinion, it is changing the look and the feel and the future behavior of america. Never seen anything like this before, pete. Todd stuart, along those lines though, if the government is going to be pumping money into the economy, why doesnt the government buy these companies, invest in these companies so that on the back end when things come back to normal, if there is going to be a normal they actually have something they can sell back to the people and sort of keep the engine keep the engine moving along as opposed to just dying on the vine . Stuart there is a political debate about precisely that. If we, for example, bail out airline should we take a ownership piece of that airline . Todd right. Stuart should the government buy stock and actually own the airline, nationalize the airline . Well, most conservatives do not like that. Most republicans do not want want that to happen. They dont want the government running a business or industry no matter what the reasoning for that ownership. Todd albeit temporarily. Stuart what conservatives and most republicans prefer is you loan the businesses these money and they pay it back over a period of time. Rather than the government running it. You keep them in business by loaning them money and then you get the money back way, way, way down the road. This is going to cost trillions and trillions of dollars. The argument right now is how do you get the most money to the right people. That is those people and businesses which are truly hurting through no fault of their own and how do you prop up those whole industries which really are hurting. We dont have an answer yet. I will tell you this. There is going to be trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars spent on this by the government in the immediate future. Jedediah stuart, i want to shift over to the Senate Negotiators are meeting today. Work through the night. Missed their deadline to reach a coronavirus stimulus deal and mcconnell is setting a vote for tomorrow. What do you make of this whole process and what are you expecting for tomorrow. Stuart well, congress is trying to move at warped speed. They are doing their best. Very difficult to get political agreement and agree on whats the best way of doing it. Jed, i would draw your attention to a very important editorial in the wall street journal. That came out yesterday they are saying look, the shutdown, as we can see it now, the shutdown of the economy is not sustainable. They are saying that in the long run, people are going to chafe at the restrictions placed upon them and they are going to be absolutely horrified at the catastrophic economic damage which is being done to all of us. The journalist essentially asking is it worth the price. Were fighting the virus economically by shutting the economy down. Paying annual enormous price for it. Is it worth the price. And the journal concludes that its not sustainable over the long term and that sooner or later we have to adjust the terms of the shutdown. How . I dont know. Thats the question thats being asked. Pete sir varney, i want to ask you that question, is it worth the cost . This is a Public Health crisis that we are addressing in a certain way. How long can we sustain shutdowns like this without damage that we cant undo . Stuart i would agree with the journal, this is not sustainable. You cant have an economy shrinking by 25 in a threemonth period and just walk away from it as if nag has happened. It is going to make a profound difference to our lives. As the journal says, you cant do this forever. At some point have you got to come out of it or adjust the lockdown situation i have heard suggestions target those most vulnerable the elderly and quarantine them and protect them. And maybe let the rest of the people gradually get back to work. Im not endorsing it by any means. But we are at the point where we are questioning how long we can go on with this government crackdown on the economy. This National Lockdown. Pete i have heard that as well. Stuart varney thank you very much for your insight. We appreciate it. We will have you back for sure. Todd thanks, stuart. Pete now go to Carley Shimkus with additional headlines. Carley five people are dead. One still missing after a bridge collapses in indiana. Walmart is looking for 150,000 temporary employees offering bonuses to current fulltime and parttime staff. 7eleven looking for 20,000 people to help out as well. And how about this . Drivein Movie Theaters seeing increased business as people try to keep their distance ahead the pandemic. One texas theater saw a 40 rise in ticket sales last weekend despite having no new movies. Some theaters have ruled out special rules for the virus such as limits on lines at snack stands. So if you have a drivein Movie Theater in your hometown, lucky you. President trump encouraging americans to use tell la Health Services as a save way to communicate with doctors. Medicare patients can now visit any doctor by phone or Video Conference at no additional cost, including with commonly used Services Like face time and skype. We encourage everyone to maximize use of tell health to limit exposure to the virus. Jedediah checkups to virtual appointments joining us is a pulmonologist to practices telemedicine. Welcome to the show. Hi, good morning. Its great to be with you. And just to clarify we have at nyu in less than 36 hours, 5500 doctors on telemedicine. And we did it because of this crisis. Now,. Jedediah whats it been like for you, doctor, to shift some patients over to telemedicine . Are there limits to what can you do . You cant examine someone but you can see a lot of their symptoms, right . As a matter of fact, one of the prime ways to examine a patient is observation. And with the video portals that we have constructed, they are actually better quality than what you and i are working on. The sound, the image, the attention the patient pays to us. We can see how they are breathing. Can i look in their airway. And so quickly i cannot thank the nyu leadership enough for giving us this tool. Because it means patients can see me as i am now in the living room without leaving their homes, without causing themselves any risk or anybody else any risk. And the technology has already arrived. I do believe this crisis has a Silver Lining where telemedicine will become available widely for Many Americans permanently. Pete doctor, described as a front line right now. A place where people can go to get their questions answered. Things that they otherwise wouldnt want to go to the hospital for. Are you seeing patients who feel like they have symptoms of covid19 and if you are, how are you dealing with that . So, in my practice, im an expert in breathing and sleep. But many people coming for routine care are asking questions about coronavirus. We have a very safe strategy. We screen patients before they come to the building. We direct them to a virtual urgent care. We are already triaging people at risk. Most of my consultations are now focused in what they can do. I would say the front line can be considered the doctors and the nurses my incredibly brave colleagues and also the ordinary americans. That is who is at the front line. Limiting contact with others meticulously clean. These are some of the most effective measures in all pandemics and they will survive of americans. So, yes, they are seeing that i have two kaoeupbtsdz o kinds of. Should i be wearing a mask or gloves in the answer is generally not unless you think you are actively infected and youre coming not public space. Probably you should not be doing that if you are wearing gloves or not, you are deplea of guilty something from an essential healthcare worker. So that doesnt make sense. Americans have so courageous and so much confidence in the president , in the government,ed in the cdc and dr. Fauci, thats giving me a lot of hope and courage. Pete absolutely. Doctor, we are usually talking to you about history or politics but your day job is saving lives. Thank you for being with us here. Its my honor and so fortunate nyu is one of the largest hospitals to do it on a large scale and done it effectively. Pete thank you we appreciate it. Todd across the country people stepping up to support the vulnerable and elderly amid the coronavirus pandemic like our next guest who started a volunteer Delivery Service here in new york city help those in need get supplies so they dont have to risk going outside. Two of the cofounders of invisible hands. Thank you both for being here. We have done a bunch of stories this week about your fellow gwinn z. Ers too busy partying on the beach to worry about fellow man and woman. You are the opposite end of that. Describe what you are doing to help your fellow man. Yeah. Thank you so much for having us. Good morning. Todd no problem. Basically what the way this project works is essentially we connect young volunteers, ablebodied people with those most vulnerable and most at risk during this crisis. So people just log on to to our website. Submit a request. We deliver groceries, pharmaceuticals whatever people are in need for and cant get out of the house. Simultaneously make sure to engage them in conversation. People are lonely during this time crisis. Make sure theyre feeling comfortable. We check in on them, learn how their day is going and learn about their families. I will say personally i have made a few deliveries and i have made some lifelong friends. One woman i delivered to invited me in for tea and cookies thats the whole opposite of this point we should be social distancing. She said when this thing is over can you come over for tea and cookies. In this time when it feels like the world is pulling us apart that we are able to come together a little bit. Todd sentiment is beautiful. To that point the name invisible hands is invisible hands for a reason. Its not visible hands, right . Totally invisible hands. The point is we want to minimize direct physical contact with the recipients as much as possible. We do encourage our volunteers to get on the phone with them and have a little chat in this time of physical distancing we dont want it to be social distancing. We want it to be a social time but since we need to keep everyone safe, we do minimize physical contact. Thats where the invisible hands comes from. Todd obviously you just started. This are there any plans to expand this beyond new york city . Absolutely. We have had a ton of interest and incredible support. Within the city we have 5,000 volunteers now who are stepped up and said how can i help . And outside of the city, its been awesome. We have had people reaching out across the country and around the world as well. Todd great stuff. The website is invisible hands delivered. Com. Lee and simone we appreciate your time. Jedediah millions of people stay at home unless its an emergency. Todd new york tomorrow night and connecticut on monday night. With that we bring you inside fox friends on a saturday morning. Pete, jed and todd. Trying to get you through this week like i said earlier unpress debted week and no knows what the next week is going to bring. Pete thats right. Jedediah its been crazy. I feel like every day we wake up and the story changes drastically so much. Reporting out of new york its been kind of scary, the escalation, you watch the numbers. The cases have been going up more testing. Also very strange. New york city is typically very full of so much hustle and bustle when you walk around and it looks like a ghost town, thats one of the most alarming experiences that you sit back and think wow this really has pervaded the entire area and you just want people to stay home. You want to stop the spread of this thing and flatten the curve as they have been saying. It is very traumatic sometimes to just look out and see the drastic change in just a couple weeks whats happened to the city. Pete the drivein this morning. Early there was nobody. Sums it up pretty nicely. Lady liberty looking maybe a little bit like you, jed, in her apartment, holding back, wondering when she will be free. The reality is stay at home orders. And i dont make light of it, i really dont. This is all a very personal situation for each of us. If you are in a manhattan apartment and not leaving. Thats extremely stressful. Listen, i have got my wife and i have got seven kids in new jersey, new jersey about to lock it down. They are not in school. We are teaching them at home while also working from home. You are managing life. It becomes a very practical exercise over time as you manage expectations of everyone around. Todd there is a reason we are doing it. This map is the reason why. We are trying to keep these numbers as low as possible. As the testing continues over the course of the next few weeks these numbers are going to rise. Close to 20,000 cases so far in the u. S. 19,624. And the number on the right, at least 200 and 6 260 deaths. Bring in chad wolf. Mr. Wolf, thank you for being here. We know you are a busy man right now. The first thing we want to get to is obviously this rumor that is going out there that the National Guard is going to be hitting the streets of all of our major cities, all of our country. It basically is martial law. Can you refute that for us . Yeah. Its simply not true. What we see is a lot of disinformation campaigns via text. Via social media. We want to make sure that we radio fight those. We knock those down. Did i that yesterday on twitter. But, a lot of this information is just that. Disinformation. So, again, we want to make sure that individuals are getting their information from trusted sources so those are your state and federal officials. We are asking them not to spread this type of information around. So there is no we have no plans for a National Lockdown or a National Quarantine. And, again, its just that its disinformation. Pete as a member of the National Guard i can double down on that. No talk of that individual units are supplementing governors in certain places to be helpful on medical issues, thats very, very different. If you would, mr. Secretary though, explain what is the department of Homeland Security doing . What is your main focus right now where we are . We have a number of different activities underway. Obviously we continue to screen individuals coming back from affected countries. We have restrictions on 30 Different Countries around the world. We still see flights coming back into the u. S. From those countries. We have cbp officers. We have contract medical screeners screening those individuals to date we have screened over 220,000 individuals coming back from corona affected areas. And we will continue to do it. Yesterday we Just Announced some additional travel restrictions regarding nonessential travel across our land borders with both canada and mexico. We are also reoperatin repatriag individuals coming here from affected areas as well. There is a lot we are doing. I would also like to mention fema. Fema has stood up National Response center level one which is highest level. A level you would see after a natural or man made event that fema does. And so fema is in the lead of coordinating our federal response. So there is a lot of activities the department is doing across the board in response to corona. Jedediah one issue come up americans trapped in other countries cant get home and eager for some assistance as to how they are going to be able to get home. Will they be able to get home . Will that be facilitated by the government here . Absolutely. We have two sets of i like to think we have two sets of individuals out there. Ones are individuals that, perhaps, are in these corona affected countries that have travel restrictions. They can return to the u. S. When they return they are obviously medically screened. They go through a process to make sure they are not showing symptoms. Then we have individuals who are perhaps in countries who imposed their own lockdown and travel restrictions and some cases not letting anyone out of the country. We see that as well. State department is working with a number of those individuals. They have identified. They have stood up a task force thats working 24 7. We have a couple of spots around the tkphroepb where we do see that we have americans caught in countries that are closed their borders. The state department is facilitating their exit. We try to remove them on commercial flights when possible. When its not possible. We take other measures in hand. Jedediah can i just ask you a quick question about that screening process . Sure. Jedediah one of the concerns last week is that a lot of individuals coming in from these countries where coronavirus was more widespread were landing in the airports. They werent having temperature checks. They were just being asked a couple of simple questions. They were able to just enter the country without ever getting tested or anything like that. What does that screening process look like . Has it been solidified in any way since then . We have heard a lot about that. We have heard individuals coming in from some of these countries and other countries claiming they werent screened and werent looked at. I can just say thats not accurate. Even though you may not get your temperature checked, you are being looked at. You are being screened even if its from a distance from medical personnel. So everyone is having their looked at. Everyone is determining whether they look sick are they showing symptoms. Asymptomatic or som symptomatic. If we do need to reach out to you because have you come in contact with someone that is sick that we have that contact information. We are passing that onto the cdc and local health officials. There are random temperature checks so there is medical screening going on at all 13 of these airports. Pete you are not saying everyone is getting their temperature checked. Its random. But everyone is being screened based on certain criteria from somebody. Thats correct. Pete will be reassuring to some. Some will have concerns with that as well. I want to ask you about an example. You mentioned countries that both have cases of covid19 but also have their own lockdowns. I think one of those that fits in there is peru. We had a couple of gentlemen on the program earlier they went to peru at the wrong moment. Here is part of what she said to us. Want to use it as an example of what you are talking about. So much anxiety around whether or not we can go home. We went to the airport around 3 00 a. M. On monday morning. And there were just hundreds of people at the airport all trying to get out. All people who didnt have tickets. It wasnt just americans. It was mexicans, are argentini, israelis all trying to get out of this country. The president announced he going to be helping us out. The u. S. Embassy said they are working on getting us out and lima first and then cusco. We are crossing our fingers and hoping our time is soon. Hopefully things will change quickly. Pete connected with thousands of others on social media services. Whats your latest on focuses like them and what they can expect . Again, state department i know is very focused specifically on peru. I have talked to a number of officials at the state department. They again have stood up a task force aaddressing a variety of countries including peru and others. The state department and embassy are on top of it. Very similar what we did in china when we pulled individuals and americans out of china on contracted flights, on commercial flights. I know that they are working. What i would ask is, you know, state department has now issued a level 4 travel advisory telling folks not to travel anywhere in the world because we not only see commercial flights being reduced so the ability to get back is impaired a little bit but also seeing what is occurring in peru quarantine procedures around the world we dont want americans caught overseas. Trying to limit nonessential travel whenever possible. Todd mr. Secretary, my mom always says this too shall pass. May that be true for the coronavirus itself it is not true for bad actors trying to harm our country. How is the business of protecting our homeland going on noncoronavirus issues. Well, its a challenge that we do every day. So while we have a large percentage of our workforce focused on battling the coronavirus, we need to make sure that our front line officers stay safe and so that they can secure the American People. So the cbp officers that we have on our borders, on our airports, at our ports of entry are the same individuals looking for those terrorists, looking for those narcotics, those traffickers, and the criminal element trying to get into the country to really do americans harm. We need to make sure that they remain healthy, for them to do their front line job every single day. Todd understood. Pete acting dhs secretary chad wolf. Mr. Secretary, thank you for your time and your effort right now. Thank you. Pete in these extraordinary moments. We appreciate it. Toss it to Carley Shimkus who has headlines. Car cash the coronavirus wreaking havoc on Police Departments in three major cities, 152 Police Officers now quarantined in detroit after five of them tested positive. The kids have been sent to the Theodore Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier and uss america in the south china sea. Right now there are no positive cases on any warships in the pacific. And a massive stars and stripes display giving us hope and patriotism amid the coronavirus pandemic. I appreciate our department is reaching out and trying to help everybody in the area. I know i have friends and family in the service industry. I know its difficult for them right now not having worked for a few weeks. Carley okay, well the nearly 700foot display shining every hour on the side of a miami building. Its the largest stars and stripes led display. Not the right soundbite but guys, cant you just picture it . I can see it right now. Well get that image later on. Jedediah a drug from the 1940s could be the key to treating the coronavirus. Com they gave two already existing medications. These medications were remarkably effective in reducing the viral load in people who had coronavirus in six days the two people given the drugs had none of the effects remaining. Jedediah new study finds the drug you see on your screen from the 1940s used to treat malaria could be effective in treating the coronavirus. Joining us more on the study toxicologist and cofounder of prosperity dr. Chris martinson. Doctor, welcome to the show. Thank you, its good to be here. Jedediah tell us a little bit about these drugs. Have they been tested for safety and why would they be effective against the coronavirus . Well, chloroquine has been around for a long time. Unfortunately it has a spotty past it is a unsafe drug at certain level. We know that the levels they used in the study seems to be reasonably safe. Unfortunately we dont know a lot yet about how this is going to behave in the patient population. That said probably the most promising treatment i have seen come out. And chloroquine it works by creating a hole in the membrane that allows sink to ge zinc to t at stopping the vice from replicating. As far as having the smit zithr. Thats a question investigating and dont know why thats working yet but maybe helping to stop any secondary infections that may come along in the damaged lungs. Todd pop up a chart to guide the audience what you are talking about in terms of what basically is a z pack to the rest of us. Can you see the control which is obviously nothing is happening there. That is obviously the least effective. And then you have the hydroxy hydroxychloroquine in onlyyou see it right there mod democratly effective. Then when you combine that with asmith throasmith throw my sin. Thats a z pack, right . Thats correct. Zithromax. Todd why do you think we are seeing that combo work in this study as effectively as it is. Again, thats a really open question. The results are pretty dramatic. Again, small number of patients but really bears replicating here. One thing that could be aware of here. They were tracking viral loads and so those went down and, of course, thats what you want to see. The sooner you can get the viral load cleared out of the patient, the better the outcome is going to be. What we dont know yet is how much better are these patients actually fairing from a longterm outcome . And lets be clear about this. This is not a cure. And we dont know if it works on a preventative basis yet. What this does is seems to give a better outcome once in the clinic. Lets be clear we dont want to get in the clinic in the first place. Jedediah what are the next steps you would expect to happen with respect to these drugs . How does this play out in the next couple of weeks . Sure. We are going to see expanded trials with these. We are going to want to test this against all sorts of different patient populations, different comorbidities. We are going to want to track the safety of profiles very, very carefully. In essence we are going to be running basically live Clinical Trials on this at this point in time. There we are looking for both efficacy and safety and really tracking very carefully what the outcomes are. But, so far, again, to repeat. This is the most promising thing i have seen so far in the data. Todd doctor, quickly in the 15 seconds remaining. Zinc. Should would he be loading up on zinc at ridiculously high levels or is that a waste of resources . I cant give medical advice but i am taking zinc because i think its fantastic antiviral. We have known that from flu season. Dont know if it works on this particular virus yet but why not try it. Todd understood. Jedediah im taking it too, todd. Got to get in there. Todd i love it. Going to grab right after the show. Seems like what we should be doing. Jedediah thank you, doctor. My pleasure. Todd coming up. Merrill whod coming up. Three words he encourages everyone to live by next. If your gums bleed when you brush you may have gingivitis. And the clock could be ticking towards bad breath, receding gums and possibly tooth loss. Help turn back the clock on gingivitis with parodontax. Leave bleeding gums behind. Parodontax. Pete as we deal with the daily uncertainty of the coronavirus. Next guest says stay positive and count on each other. Retired nfl player Merrill Hodge writing on instagram life is the greatest team game that i have ever played and this is the perfect time to become a team. That message is echoed in his new book find a way. Merril hoge joins us now. Merrill, thanks for being on the show. We always love having you. This message, where did it come from and i know why you are spreading it now. But tell us about your inspiration. I will tell you what, pete, those words find a way. They have helped me live the dream and fight to live it. Actually started at age 12 when my goal was to play in the National Football league. I actually put them up on my wall. And the thing that they did that day they still do today and it might be as relevant as ever today is inspiring me to take action about whatever circumstance i was dealing with, whatever i was facing with. And you know, playing football and playing sports. I mean, those are football is the greatest team sport i have ever played. But i mention life is the greatest team game which it is. Which is this is unprecedented time. Like we are all experiencing. The same uncertainties every day. And this is the best time to rally together. Help each other, become a team. I mean, its probably one of the best things that can really that i could see that could help us all is if we become a team, look out for each other and help one another. Pete we havent looked much like a team for quite some time. The crucible of sports. Especially football. You get in the locker room. Whatever differences you have. Whatever skin color or religion you are, it all fades away because you have a shared goal. Explain the similarities right now as a nation as we face this faceless virus. What analogies from the locker room do you give to people . Pete, you hit the nail on the head. Thats why i love the huddle. When i step in the huddle whether im a chicago bear or pittsburgh steeler i look around and i see what i see, i see my teammates. You are exactly right. Race, color, religion, irrelevant. We are a team. You know, you are a pittsburgh steeler. You are a chicago bear. We are all together a team and you know, if you can take those sports analogies, do you get rid of all of the real issues that you have in society. Thats why i love about sports and try to thrapbs translate that to your lifes work and life experiences. Pete its true. Last night we had basically a huddle in my neighborhood. Plenty of social distancing but across the fence neighbors that we hadnt talked to since we had moved in. Were all sharing a story. The kids are there talking about how you are managing it. Really changes the dynamic. I want to get your take also on the nfl now unaffected by. This sean payton, head coach of the new Orleans Saints just tested positive for the coronavirus. Your reaction to that, how the league would respond, maybe the season next year . Your take . Well, i think its an example nobody is immune. You know, just because you are a great coach in the National Football league doesnt mean you cant come down with the virus. I think its even more of a picture that, you know, everybody is susceptible. So what can we do together to try to minimize this the best we can . You know, ace watch what the nfl is doing. You know, they will be proactive in moving forward. They have already cancelled the draft from a perspective of having people there. Pete yep. Im sure as time moves on they will make the right adjustments, accordingly safer players and fans. Pete big adjustment here in the off season. Tom brady, signing a twoyear deal with the tampa bay buccaneers. I have got to be honest, i didnt see that one come. We knew he would make a move. Well didnt think he was going back to new england. Tampa bay how does this change the league . Well, obviously, it makes a big shift. I will tell you this, pete. Tom brady is one of the luckiest guys on the planet. Here is why. People know bruce aryans, i have known him for a long time. Fabulous coach. I will tell you what makes him a fabulous coach. There is a guy on that staff that nobody knows in the National Football league and respects. He was my first offensive coordinator when i got to the nfl and its tom moore. Tom moore is one of the great minds of football. If you think of Peyton Mannings career, tom moore was offense coordinator. The architect and worked with Peyton Manning that entire time. Byron is a great and upcoming mind. What i envision happening is everybody is going to learn from each other. Thats what makes bruce a great coach. Tom a great coach and byron a great coach. When tom brady walks in there. The first thing they are going to ask him is hey what do you want to do . What do you like . How can we all Work Together to create an offense . This isnt tom brady fitting in to bruce aryans offense or tom moores. Those guys are going to be walking into him. Pete is he walking into a contender. If you are a tampa bay bucks fan do you suddenlinely hav suddenla contender. Based on how they pray. There is no absolutely no doubt. Pete it is going to be interesting. Merrill hoge thank you for your time. You got it, pete. Pete people caring from their homes. One nurse shares her experience thats coming up live. Jedediah earlier we told you about this massive stars and stripes display shining on this side of a miami building. Wow, thats gorgeous. Pete very cool. The display giving a bee con of hope and patriotism amid this moment in time that we are all living through. Todd that is awesome. Thats good stuff right there. Inspirational stories. Take a look. Jedediah its a move we have seen in several countries including spain and israel. Pete our next guest is a nurse at the university of Chicago Medical Center who has treated patients with coronavirus symptoms. Robinson freeman joins us now. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. We really really appreciate it. Whats it like to be on the front lines . Those applauses, thats genuine. People respect and appreciate the work that you do. How are you holding up . Whats it like . Right now the adrenaline is high and also let me just put in there im also a nurse at mount sinai holy cross here in chicago as well. I do go between the two hospitals but the adrenaline is high but there is no time for us to stop and think about anything less but giving great healthcare. And making sure that our families are well received and calm. There has been a lot of concerns about medical supplies, about masks, about gloves. Have you experienced any shortages with respect to that . Well, right now we are okay. There is a shortage. We are just being more cognizant of things that we do have a shortage to we are making sure that we are using them in areas that are definitely necessary to be used in. Just been more cognizant of what we do have here. Todd we have talked to a lot of doctors over the course of the last couple weeks but nurses are literally the front lines of the front line. Describe what you experience every day when you go into work. Every day is different. Because i do the er. You never know what you are going to run into. You just have to be prepared. Mentally prepared and, yes, we are the front line of whether they come through the er, whether they come through a doctors office. No matter if you are out in the public. We do become the front line. Once you become on any level. My experience has been running to the fire, i would say. Because i know that patient need need to be strong, need to be thinking correctly. Critical thinking. One thing we are taught in nursing and to show that compassion and understanding of what they are going through and their Family Members are going through. Those are the things i think about when i do see or address our patients that come in whether its called like symptoms, flu like symptoms until we are able to figure those things out. Pete thecia, illinois one of those states stay at home and be cautious. Have you had to make any tradeoffs you have a seen a surge in people in the emergency room attempting to get screened. Does it hold back with people with other emergencies, a brethren leg, a heart attack. Things happening not coronavirus related. How are you managing the two . Well, right now i have got to give a hands up to our medical people, our directors, our leadership because they are making sure that we have the coverage to be able to do that because we have sets of nurses and when you work in that environment, you have [inaudible]. So we are able to make sure that everyone gets treated. Now, you do have your level of intensities and things of that nature. Once we know that we get in someone that has been exposed to that of course we would like to get them treated and moved on fast. Because we do not want that to spread or, you know, to affect another patient. So, those patients that do come in with those symptoms, we try to get them moved on out of the er. Pete got it. And get them isolated as fast as possible. Jedediah we have a lot of people watching from home right now some are scared and concerned and many, myself included, are listening to you saying wow, so grateful what you are doing. I dont think i would be able to do it. What is your message to people who are listening right now . I want to send out to america we are a great country. We are great. We have been faced with a lot of division the last couple years and things like that. Unfortunately it took this to put a little fear and to wake america up again, to bring us together. One thing i would like to say to the people at home is just listen to the leadership that is in your state, that is in your city. Because, at the end of the day, we are the ones to be able to control it and stop this virus that is happening one thing i would say this bond that were building. Lets continue to keep that bond. That unity that we are experiencing. I must say the city of when i get off work sometimes after 12, 13, 14 hours. Im driving home and im looking. I say oh my god, we have had a surge of gunshot victims here and i have to say that it has been amazing that we have all unified here in chicago. They are following, they are listening. And i want to great kudos to everyone out there. If you are home sick, help your loved ones. Get out there and if they need the essentials, go get that for them. Be mindful. Educate. Read. Just dont listen to a whole lot of the cdc is putting out the great information. Things are changing day by day. Just continue to follow what were asking you to do and i think we will be great and overcome this. I think when we do come out of this we are going to be different. You know, with things happening in the past probably even before our time coming out of all these things we were different. This whole one thing we continue to do is be unified. And just change the face of what we left behind us. Ththe last two weeks for us here in the state. Pete we can help. Great message. Thecia robinsonfreeman thank you for what you are doing to so many people. Be safe. Thank you. Good night. Pete turn it over to Carley Shimkus who has a few more headlines. Todd if anybody can get us through its going to be gronk. Remember when he came here to talk about how he was going on fox and nfl on fox . He is exactly like he is in those videos. Carley such a nice guy. Todd just a fun guy. A guy you want to party with of course when the coronavirus is over. Pete thats not easy to do especially with an empty stadium. Come on. Carley he brought it. Pete you have to bring it like people are there even noe though no one is there i think he has got a future. I may be the only one saying it. But i think he does. Thank you oh, i like that one [ laugh ] thats a lot of storage perfect. Youre welcome i love it. How did you do all this . Wayfair speaking of dinner, whatre we eating, guys . Pete welcome back, as restaurants and bars remain closed in several states, our next guest says the dining industry has been shocked to its core. His work in the Meat Industry is moving ahead as food flies off supermarket shelves and needs to be restocked. Joining us is pat lafreida meat purveyors. I look for your meat every time i go to the grocery store. Its fantastic. Im a consumer myself. Thanks, pete. Pete is it hard to keep that meat on the shelf these days . Tell me where you are at as a company . Retailers have had difficulty in restocking shelves as fast as they wanted to. When you cut off the restaurant supply, which is more than close to 60 of what all new york City Residents eat or meals that come from outside of the household when you cut that off and run on supermarkets. Supermarkets cannot restock fast enough. I always say in business i never panic from what i cannot control. But being part of the food and especially the meat supply chain and making sure that supply chain has not been broken we have alleviated those lines. There were lines last week in the five or six hours long to find out that there were no meat on the shelves we have helped in resupplying those Retail Market and there is more product. When you hear the administration say please dont buy more than 14 days worth of product. There is a reason for that. Thats so some arent hoarding product and others have nothing. I think everything that the administration has said and warned us to do has really been working. And thats why im so optimistic about the 15 day plan because we know the Restaurant Industry has been shocked and pulverized to its core. We will come back. There is no choice. We are going to make back the initial issues that i would love to help are our employees. We really want them to stay home until we are able to bring everyone back. But we will make it back. For those restaurants that have not just given up that have done curbside delivery organ Delivery Services. Those are the smarter restaurants. Because when we do come back, they will have a profession. Im not so sure about restaurants that have just completely given up. I do think we should take this big, big hit right now with this 15 day plan because i think that this is what is going to if we can slow this curve down, we can really be past this much faster. Pete thats the debate. Slow the healthcare curve down how much economic hit can you take in the meantime . And thats the question. Here is a part of the hit happening right now. Here is the impact on restaurants. 225 billiondollar losses so far. 7 million jobs lost. Let me ask your company. It sounds like you are moving supply chains to restaurants to retail and Grocery Stores. As far as jobs inside your own company, how are you managing that . Well, we have had to let go of 200 employees, at least half of our staff. Even we have always sold to retail outlets. But and thats where the public is getting their food right now. So, yeah, thats increased. But the majority of our business was supplying restaurants. Thats where our entire history is. And yes. Of course, that money is lost. Those jobs have been lost. But they will come back. And as the business owner, we will have to figure out how to manage surviving through this. My only fear is when were ready to get our employees back, we want them to be whole. Pete absolutely. The president has been optimistic about aid that he has set aside for. Those that have been affected by this virus and that makes us optimistic. Pete do you like what you see so far from washington as far as proposed bills from your industry, your company . I really do. I really do. Any help to our staff, whether its employees that are still here and not taking federal taxes out of their income or whether its being able to apply for unemployment through the corona bill. That really helps us in that were going to come back. Were going to call our employees back. And when we do we need them to be of sound mind. Pete not playing from behind. Absolutely. La freda. In preparing for this segment i see can you order steaks from your website. Lafrieda. Com. Our Home Delivery business has just. Pete exploded . And the one thing im very proud of. Pete real quick. I have not seen one iota of any price gouging anywhere. Pete thats amazing. Absolutely. Thats very patriotic makes me think of 9 11 and the people that were pete lets hope we can that spirit for sure thank you for your time and good luck inside your industry. Thank you. Pete more fox friends on the other side. I need your help to help others. There are kids that may go hungry. There are Senior Citizens that are too afraid to go outside. Kavanaugh, why are you so awesome . [static] todd skype is in action. Focus is i never give up. Because like i really like helping the world. Pete you like helping in ways people are not familiar with listen, i have got kids. They say they like to help. You go to the next level. You are taking money you got for christmas or for your birthday and you are pouring it in to giving to others. My kids buy donuts and baseball cards and video games. You are doing it for other people. Where does that love of other people come from . Well, sometimes comes from me doing happy to just like help out Senior Citizens. [inaudible] pete kavanaugh, we have to leave it right there. We have a tough connection. But what i got out of that and its true, is you get a lot of value out of helping other people. It makes you feel good to help other people which is a message that i think America Needs to hear today. So we love you. Thank you so much for being with us this morning. Keep up the great work. Jedediah thank you, kavanaugh. And to help make care packs vs. Cool and dope. Com. Thank you for all you are doing. Pete coolest website ever. Jedediah awesome. Pete good to see you. Its just our way of doing our part. Pete straight to a fox news alert right now more than 70 million americans on lockown across the nation. New york, illinois, california, and connecticut ordering residents to stay home, unless absolutely necessary. Pete thats right now jersey expected to follow suit, with increased restrictions today. What you got right there are cars lining up at a testing site in the state of new jersey, as the governor considers, we think today, a stay at home order. Jedediah the number of cases soaring past 19,000 across the u. S. , 260 people have died. Pete thats right well bring you in now to this 9 00 hour of fox friends on a saturday a little different than normal but were practicing what so many of you across the country are as well, jed, todd, george, great to have you. Jedediah good morning everyone at home just tuning in. Pete absolutely and if you are getting your newspaper this morning you might see this as the New York Post. Lady liberty her self quarantin ing herself if you were or at least staying at home and jedi think all of us are having very personal moments whether its at an apartment, at your house, the way we communicate with loved ones, elderly people life is very different right now. Jedediah everyones experience has been so different and one thing thats really hard for me is everyone knows i have an infant at home and of course im so worried about him and always afraid ill bring any germs into the house but also my parents cant come visit him and so many people want to be excited about a new baby and its definitely been interesting and people across the country who have a lot more space and live in homes and have land im always incredibly jealous at times because when your quarantined in an apartment and in a building with a lot of people there are so many other concerns, will i have a shortage of space to store stuff, i have to touch all those elevator buttons, and people in homes have other concerns maybe i dont have so this has been a unifying experience in the sense that everyone is going through it together and although everyone is experience is a little bit different were alleys ening to each other and collectively experiencing the crisis at once. Todd theres one concept that been running through my mind to make myself feel a little bit more powerful and pete youll appreciate this because you went overseas and served our country and away from your family for a very long period of time. I think of my grandfather world word two left his mom and dad and entire family for four years didnt see them, so they are fighting a war nobody is shooting at us on the streets of the United States of america. Thats not saying its ease ids by any stretch of the imagination but the generations before us and some generations now theyve gone through things, were going to go through this and come through stronger on the other side. Pete brings you together in different ways. In our negotiating we had a neighborhood meeting over the fence with kids and parents some of which id never met before. Keeping distance chatting it up talking about what life is like and what were doing in our own ways to get through it and everyone, by the way, paying attention to whats happening at the white house right now the need for leadership critical and were going to bring in marc short, chief of staff to Vice President mike pence who joins us this morning, mark thanks so much for being here. First of all just top line. Youre there at the white house, youre around the Vice President , the president as these critical decisions are being made right before press conferences everyone is watching take us behind the scenes of this process right now. Well good morning, pete thanks for having me on. Pete good morning. The task force that meets daily the Vice President will be meeting again this morning at 10 00. Typically we bring all sectors of the government together to bring to the floor the most important issues and then the Vice President typically raises decisions that need to be made to the president but i cant tell you to your last segment, pete how encouraged we are to see all of america coming together and the spirit of america is inspiring to all of us and youve seen the private sector partner and reach out to us and say we want to retrofit our manufacturing facilities, to provide more medical supplies if needed. We want to be there to help and provide supplies to those most in need, and we see that from pastors as well and its i think were very encouraged that were going to get over this hump in the span typically been six to eight weeks where we seen the outbreaks in asia, and where we seen them elsewhere, and so were encouraged with the way the American People are cooperating with the 15day guidance the president provided to all americans. Jedediah mark theres been a rumor about a nationwide quarantine. Can you address that . Sure, that is not something thats been discussed inside our task force meetings, its not on the agenda today. There are no plans for a nationwide quarantine. Pete so when folks see the military mobilized, theres rumors of the National Guard, im in the National Guard , theres no talk of this , theres been no directive of this. You will see it used in certain places and states to supplement whats happening in healthcare places but speak to that if you would. Lets break that down for a second, pete because youre right. Typically National Guard is mobilized at the governors direction and what were seeing is that three states have more than 50 of the cases, and in fact more than 50 of new cases unfortunately for you all are in new york city. But what were seeing is that the contagion is washington, california, new york state, and the fatalities that we were most concerned about obviously california and washington and new york were now basically at 250plus. What we had said the president you heard said when the initial numbers came out from the World Health Organization that the fatality rate was about 3. 5 , among those here in america, were now down under 1. 5 and i know that doesnt give comfort to the families that have lost loved ones but the reality is that will we provide more information, no more people practice social distancing, youre continuing to see those numbers come down and as we get more tests out in the market naturally youll see the media exposed so theres more cases that test positive, but at the same time, youre see seeing fatality rate continues to come down, and i think as we get more information , we provide more therapeutics that come on the market in the coming weeks were encouraged that trend will continue. Pete absolutely. Mark, and in your office, it hasnt gone without touching the Vice President office we heard reports that a staffer in the Vice President s office has tested positive for coronavirus. Talk to us about that. Did the Vice President , president have any interaction with that individual . Im pleased to report that that individual is doing well. Ive talked to him last night, several times. He basically had a couple days of coldlike symptoms. He tested positive thursday night, he was not in the office tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday. He has had no direct contact with the Vice President or the president. Weve had the normal contact tracing, led by the White House Physicians Office to go through who he may have been in contact with previously and some staff will take necessary precautions but im pleased to report that he had very mild symptoms and is doing really well. Todd mark this has not been an easy week but any stretch of the imagination and next week you hear talk amongst your friends and family we dont know whats going to happen and theres concern testing is ramp ed up,nih warning there could be 70,000 cases in the u. S. By next week, dr. Fauc i saying its unclear when covid19 is going to reach its peak. Based upon the discussions that you have had, with the Vice President , and the meetings that he has had, and based upon the information youre allowed to tell us, what do you anticipate for the next seven days . Well, todd, im pleased to tell you with the Vice President and the president s leadership we pulled together a large number of private sector Lab Companies who have provided many more tests on the market. The number of tests available has grown 10fold this week alone and well probably see that again next week so by deduction as more and more people are tested youre going to see those numbers go up but encouraging i think for your audience is that weve only been asking people who have symptoms, fever, respiratory problems, others to get tested so only those with symptoms are getting tested, and what were seeing is less than 10 are actually infected. Lets keep in mind, this is also flu season, its allergy season, and so the vast majority of people getting tested are testing negative, and even those who test positive as weve said from the very beginning, the vast majority of those people do not face a risk of severe illness. The precautions that this administration has put in place is out of abundance of precaution to protect our most vulnerable, the seniors with Underlying Health conditions and thats the backbone of a policy recommendation to be extra cautious but what were seeing and you will see more and more people test positive next week, as more tests are available but a lot of people for instance like the member on our staff will have very mild symptoms or actually be asymptomatic altogether. Pete mark we only have a moment and were focused on how were reacting as a country but there have been reports recently that if china had acted sooner if they had been honest and had transparency from the beginning a lot of this could have been prevented, president calling it the chinese virus. What is the white house doing to sort of hold china responsible for unleashing a lot of this . Well, pete i think theres no doubt about that. I do think its true if they had been more forthcoming from the beginning it would have help ed other nations to belter prepare for this outbreak. Having said that i think there will be future actions down the road. Right now, china has been trying to provide equipment where theres deficits to other people and so i think there will be further discussions about responsibility they should have and should take in ways that they were trying to hide information. We also obviously are concerned about their disinformation campaigns, and alleging it came from other places, but i think theres probably a day and a time for more appropriate actions with china. Pete you got it. Marc short, thank you, youre a busy man these days we appreciate you taking a moment. Todd thank you, sir. Jedediah well head over to, were so excited to see carlie, were excited who will announce her. You guys can fight over me any day but lets get straight to it. All right, so maybe after the movie lets talk about that bedroom of yours when was she in our bedroom . Pete you are looking at a live look at the u. S. Capitol where the senate is set to resume negotiations on the Coronavirus Relief deal, after missing their deadline last night. Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell now scheduling the vote for tomorrow, sunday. So what will it take for them to come to an agreement . Here to discuss indiana senator mike braun. Senator thank you very much for being here this morning we appreciate it. Thank you. Pete were hearing reports on on the outside listen bipartisanship has broke out for the right reason. What needs to be worked out . I think its better news than what everyone might imagine and i think its getting into the details of how the direct payments end up going to the individuals most impacted by it. Blue collar workers, wage earner s, Small Businesses. I was in directly on the Small Business component and i think thats going to be about as good as we can get done quickly. I think one side is looking at maybe trying to enhance unemployment insurance. We actually had an amendment for phase ii to do just that, here a few days ago and i think we want to make sure with what were doing that we get it done quickly, the American Public needs to see dramatic action here. We created all this by trying to keep the disease down and i think its simply how much and how do we do it that reaches the people that need it the most , so were going to get there and i like the idea that we have a vote tomorrow so on monday morning, the public knows that were doing everything we can here. Pete where do you fall on it . Because unemployment insurance, a lot of the responsibility then as a result falls on employers, because they are responsible for some portion of that. Direct payments how do you decide who they go to, how much is it a onetime thing . You know, break down for people who look at the idea of a government check, break down what youre thinking through as you decide how to help people so anything we do here and that might be a little underlying component as well, a lot of times people want to throw things in that arent related to the issue at hand. Im hoping theres not much of that. On the Small Business component, i didnt see that occurring, so i think its a question first of all, this is going to be target ed and it better be sunset once we get over the main hurdle s combating the disease, and i think the displacement and dislocation thats occurred, weve got to take care of it and whether its through unemployment, insurance enhancement, the direct payments , it needs to be done this weekend. Im among the fiscal conservatives here, and this is different. In 2008 we know what the cause was it was systemic and here weve had the healthiest economy weve had possibly ever, and were systematically shutting it down. I heard stu talk about it earlier. That is a concern when we get through these 15 days which i think is a week from this monday. Everything we heard this past week in terms of the economic carnage, itll be worse this coming week and thats where i think we need to somebody mentioned earlier, the mortality rate. To me, that is the thing we focus on. It scared us all when it looked like it was coming out at 3 to 4 . Dr. Barricks said it should be seventenths, it should be closer to the flu with sars. Anything you do on Something Like this you need to take all of the information youve got, cumulatively, and then pivot if you need to, to make sure were tailoring this in a way thats going to tap the disease down but not kill the economic patients. Pete thats right speaking of tailoring do you think there could come a moment where you effectively say we know who the vulnerable populations are, elderly, people with pre existing conditions we know where the outbreak is mostly centralized and you say okay they are stay at home for those folks but other people gradually start to come out and move the engines of the economy again. Whats your sense of when we might know that Something Like that is possible . Well, im thinking everything im getting, i still stay in touch with the business i used to run, my kids and a good group of Young Executives do it now so i get firsthand information, and almost acrosstheboard, disproportion at issues with hotels, airlines, bars, restaurants, and thats going to need some help, but weve got to do this , in my opinion, at the end of the 15 day stretch, and that is to put a hard wall of protection around the most vulnerable because this is about saving lives. Also being smart about it, that we treat some areas differently than say new york and washington and california, where the preponderance of the cases are. Im going to rely on the experts in terms of what were doing with the healthcare portion. I like that weve thrown everything in the kitchen sink at it but we go beyond the end of this 1415 day stretch, we might have irreversible damage done to the economy. Lets be smart about it, adjust where we need to. Pete and Something Like sunset clauses are music to ears of conservatives as well, that this government assistance is not permanent, its meant to get you a bridge to a better economic future. Senator thank you very much. We got to leave it right there i hope i summarized it properly, appreciate it. Still ahead, keeping kids busy while theyre home from school for weeks. Todd just like the music well have a little fun right now. Many schools across the country now closed to slow the spread of coronavirus as parents grapple with how to teach their kids and entertain them. Pete our next guest is a mother of nine, and she has some advice on navigating family time together. Fox news contributor and host of moms on fox nation, rachel camposduffy joins us now. Hello. Rachel hi, everybody. Pete rachel and crew its so good to see you. Rachel how are you doing . Rachel we can only fit packs of them in the shot. Jedediah i notice you got the dog in there too. Amazing. Rachel i know you love puppies. Jedediah yes i do i dont know how you do it all. You are my superwoman i say that all the time but can you give us tips . I have one infant, and a dog and im having a hard enough time with that. What are your tips for parents at home, having the kids home from school and having a hard time juggling this all . Rachel first jedi want you to count your blessings you dont have to do homework with that baby because thats the part thats not fun really. The first thing is ive been telling them that its their duty to stay home and stay clean and i tell you, the teens are harder than the little ones to convince that youve got to stay home because they see no school and to them that means i want to go out and hang out with my friends so weve had to keep them home and had to tell them that this is, you know, a Patriotic Mission really. The next thing is to try and have fun. Soak in the family time. Were always complaining we dont have enough time with our family and now we do. So weve been obviously watching tv, who doesnt watch movies right . But weve also been playing games, weve been playing old ma id and charades and telling stories and so, you know , monopoly which always ends in a fight, but you know, doing those things, now is the time to do it. Were here we might as well and cooking. I love to cook, so weve been doing a lot of cooking. The next thing i say is to set a rough schedule. I saw you, pete, and im not quite as organized as the hegseth school, but i think we set a rough schedule to lets try and get everything from school done by noon. Pete yeah. Rachel and then we have the rest of the day. Pete totally you set at least the parameters of a schedule, rachel and then the day happens something changes so you got to be flexible but you find out how much time at school they actually have, you know because theres so many kids going to school in Public School or elsewhere, a lot of wasted time at home, you can concentrate that and youre right you get it done basically by noon if your focused you start early enough. Rachel ive been lucky my college girl is home, avida, so shes been helping with the homework too so if things are going a little easier that way because we have an extra hand. My fourth tip is work out. Its not easy but you have no excuse to not work out now and we all feel better after a work out, and after a shower. Ive had a few days that i did work out and some that i didnt and i can honestly say im a better momma on the days that i work out so if you can, if you have home equipment or go on the internet and find those homeworkouts thats the way to do it and then my last tip is to pray together. Beginning and ending the day with prayer, i think is a really great thing to do. If youre family doesnt have have a routine now is the time to start that routine of praying together. I think everybody feels better when theyre doing that and thinking about all of the other people, praying for healthcare workers, praying for the scientists who are trying to find the cure, praying for our grandparents who are isolated and those who are lonely in nursing homes, this is a good time for us to think about others. Todd and quite frankly, rachel praying for your daughter. I mean youre obviously a contributor here but youre a lot more than that to so many of us youre our friend so this is pretty personal. Your daughter will have heart surgery on monday amid the coronavirus outbreak. How is she doing . Rachel shes doing really well in fact ill bring her in here so you can at least see her here she is. She has Downs Syndrome and also has a couple holes in her heart, and the amazing doctors in chicago, luries Children Hospital are going to operate on her heart on monday, so they are going to open her up, close those heart holes and then fix the valve, and so yeah, its a little bit scary ill tell you. Even we went to the appointment a couple days ago, the preop appointment and its scary to go into a hospital now you wonder what could happen, but she needs this surgery, and were praying for her. Pete absolutely we are praying for her shes so beautiful. Jedediah shes beautiful. Pete i have to say, you have the most amazingly wellbehaved children i have ever seen. I spent time with them this summer they are wonderful and then you get on camera and they actually behave. I was hitting mine under the screen and threatening them behind the cameras i dont know if shawn is doing the same thing or they are just wonderful. Rachel well its a combination of bribery and also many years of doing campaign commercials, they were trained. [laughter] jedediah do you know whats so funny . I worked with you rachel and pete, theres so many kids around and yet the two of you are socal am. I have one kid and a baby and im totally crazy. Maybe the key is to just have more kids. Rachel that is the key, jedediah and they just raise themselves. Pete they sort of do, yes. Rachel youre a champion to all of us god bless you guys i know they are getting a great education at home and certainly remember to pray together, you guys always do that. Were all kind of like this and they are all welcome at the hegseth school for Higher Learning if we want to do a virtual connect. Rachel if you do virtual connect ill do spanish lessons how is that . Pete boom, done we got our session for next week good to see you guys have a wonderful saturday. Rachel bye todd. Jedediah coming up our next guest is a well known philanthropist putting together thousands of kits packed with gloves and wipes for families in need. Todd selfmade businesswoman Bethany Frankel joining us after the break. Todd Stores Closing down across the country amid the coronavirus pandemic. Pete some of them now changing the way they do business, to keep up with demand. Jedediah fox friends cohost rob schmidt joins us live with more on the store shakeups. Big news for the millions of people who rely on starbucks to wake them up. The Company Closing most of its cafes but delivery and drivethru will still be available for starbucks. The Companies Leadership admitting that lattes are not essential but saying the government wants places like starbucks partially open and another interesting story here, grubhub, doordash, diners in parts of the country saying no more cash, trying to keep employees and customers safe from anything that can spread coronavirus germs to them. Experts say the virus can live on surfaces like weve heard even money for some time and in south korea, leaders took paper money out of circulation, which may have helped that nation successfully handle the spread as theyve done pretty good with it. In politico land the central bank is sending its money to the federal government to disinfect all of their paper money. Another interesting story here, at least one costco location is not accepting returns of many of these products here you can see very in demand like toilet paper, sanitizing wipes, and the reason at this point is unknown but there are two possible motives here. Preventing the virus spread from products already taken home handled by a customer or the preventing of hording, these indemand products. People wont buy as much if they think theres no chance they could turn it back in once this virus is gone. So thats an interesting story there. Also an array of retailers are closing their doors, nation and some worldwide for a couple weeks if not longer. Gap, Burlington Coat factory,t j maxx, jc penney just to name a few in new york, california, jersey, connecticut, pennsylvania, illinois all non essential business is shut down, a lot of the places telling people to just stay at home. Todd thank you. Many people stepping up as the coronavirus pandemic sweeps the nation. Pete our next guest is a self made business woman whose giving back in a big way. Shes making tens of thousands of coronavirus kits packed with gloves masks and sanitation wipes for families who need them jedediah pill an there pits Bethenny Frankel joins us now, welcome. Hi how are you . Jedediah doing great, thank you for being here so tell us a little bit about some of the stuff youre doing beginning with your kids. So the coronavirus kits are 20,000 kits that have immunity builders, hydration systems to pump up peoples hydration because its extremely crucial during a crisis like this and when you have a virus, sanitiz ing gel we are manufacturing right now because the people are price gouging and its impossible to get medical information, gloves, and our big mission right now and were going to distribute those to people in need, but also, to healthcare workers because were hearing that they are dehydrated , their immune systems are shot so a lot of this is shifting where people now its more of a lockdown, people are home the threat of transmission on the subway in new york, or on the street or at airports is becoming less, and the crucial disaster is becoming whats happening in hospitals, and healthcare workers, and people even at retail stores, you just discussed and Grocery Stores open they have no masks they are bombarded with people all day, but the medical masks are the number one priority for us right now, and we have ordered 100,000, we can order hundreds of thousands we are raising money, by the minute, but we need more money, we have donated 10,000 masks to mass general in boston. We are donating to nyu langone hospital in new york where it is onethird of the cases are in new york city, and that is tracking to be wuhan because at least in china they were listening to wearing the masks and in new york people havent been doing that and im sure you heard that the head of the italy Health Association passed away because he was continually treating patients without protection, 1 out of 10 healthcare workers in italy have passed were interacting with patients and healthcare workers so the masks are an absolute crisis. We are working together with hospitals in d. C. , were donat ing to cedar sinai and ucla , thousands of masks. Pete you just mentioned we got news that mount sinai hospital in new york city is saying they are officially out of masks and other personal Protection Equipment nurses are being assigned one of everything they have to sanitize after every patient, so how are you finding out about the facilities like that one that you can support . Yes, and after this phone call that will be my next phone call ill call up nyu, and say should we give 5,000 of the initial 10,000 masks to mount sinai and this is what im doing all day but what is happening is im getting messages, im an er nurse, thats how this started, im here at nyu and were desperate at mass general, and they are telling the inside stories that are happening, because the only way to know is from whats going on inside the hospitals, because they are moving so quickly and they are panicstricken and they want to help people and save lives and whose going to save our lives and elderly parents lives or people at risk lives if they dont have their proper equipment . So we are raising money by the minute but we need more, and wealthy people are not donating. They are worrying about their bottom line, so people, the poor people are donating so we need more wealthy people to donate. Todd youve got a lot of fans, bethenny. We certainly hope those that are watching step up to the place and follow your lead. Thank you very much, bethenny. Bethenny. Com bestrong. Please donate, people are dying. Pete thank you very much, appreciate it. All right, lets send it over to caralinxe for a few more headlines. Reporter her husband is the chairman of the new york stock exchange. She claims the sales were handl ed by third Party Advisors those are your headlines, guys. Pete that could be a tough one. Jedediah thanks. Up next were getting more of your questions answered by our own doctor, Nicole Saphier so stick with us. 1 in 3 deaths is caused by cardiovascular disease. Millions of patients are treated with statinsbut up to 75 persistent cardiovascular risk still remains. Many have turned to fish oil supplements. Others, fenofibrates or niacin. But heres a number you should take to heart zerothe number of fda approvals these products have, when added to statins, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Ask your doctor about an advancement in prescription therapies with proven protection. Visit truetoyourheart. Com jedediah there is still a lot we dont know about the coronavirus pandemic and many of you have questions. Pete we have fox news medical contributor dr. Nicole saphier back to answer them for you. Doctor thanks for being here. You have been indispensable throughout this and continue to be this morning. Here is an email from james. He writes. My mom is 88 and after hearing that this virus effects people with heart conditions, should appointments with her cardiologist be kept or should she stay away from Populated Areas where her doctor is good question. Good question, and any routine followups right now, doctors appointments we really shouldnt be going in anywhere for that potentially she should call her doctor and they are likely able to do a consult over the phone, especially if she just needs a refill or anything like that. Now if she is having these symptoms that are relatable to her heart condition, she absolutely wants to contact her doctor but any routine appointments right now, we are prolonging for a few weeks out at least. Jedediah doctor, we have an email from marsha that says i am 69 and my neighbor is 70 both healthy. Can we safely swim in my pool, staying 10 feet apart . What do you think . I actually like the idea of being outside. I mean, we really want to make sure were having physical activity, trying to get outside as much as you can. I would say having two people in a Swimming Pool is going to be probably okay, but lets remember, try not to be within six feet of each other, if you guys are on different ends, you know, youre still having some social interaction and some physical activity, id say absolutely do it. Just make sure you continue to wipe down surfaces, wash your hands, dont put anything in your mouth, but sure, i think that sounds like a great idea. Can i come over . Todd susan doesnt have an email comment about whether you can come over but she asked sooner or later we all come out of our areas of quarantine, the virus will still be out there. What would change . We would still run the risk of being infected. Sure, todd i mean this is a good question and the truth is we dont actually know exactly what the situation is going to be when we come out on the other end of this , but the truth is, the virus is still going to be around. Its not like its going to be magically gone just like we have colds and flu season we may just start having a cold, flu, and coronavirus season just hopefully well have a vaccine by next season but the truth is what were trying to do is decrease the amount of cases that happen right now, that are overwhelming the healthcare system. That is the biggest concern thats why were saying social distancing, protect everyone, you know, after we have done these strict recommendations when we come out of it in the next few weeks, its still people are still going to be infected with the virus but were hoping its going to be fewer people and at that time, potentially we can have just targeted of our Senior Citizens and most vulnerable, continue their social distancing while the rest of us move on but lets be honest i think everyone washing their hands a lot more and practicing healthier behaviors right now and hopefully that will continue in our future to come, but the truth is the virus will still be there and well have to continue some of our best hygiene practices. Todd final question from ron on my doctors advice, i take a nasal spray, to help prevent sinis infections. Can this also help prevent getting the coronavirus . Theres a lot of questions about this pro far lactic can i do anything in advance . What say you. The best way to avoid being sick is to be living your healthiest life every day of the year, diet, full of fruits and vegetables not smoking cigarettes getting ample exercise, doing something right now, best thing you can do right now is avoid washing your hands and now the academic literature out there actually doesnt show that it really helps in certain areas, but there are some anecdotal studies that show that there is some ways to prevent infection but specifically bacterial infections, i personal liam not going to say you shouldnt be taking some Something Like that, but if youre interest your doctors care you might as well still do it because it is for a condition youre under the scare of your physician for but avoid contacts and wash your hands. Todd good advice, as always we appreciate it well check back in with you at some point in the future. Pete great stuff. I think she just earned a lecture at my lecture series. The coronavirus forced them to close their dining rooms, but it cant stop them from honoring our flag and country. Jedediah the founder of Mission Barbecue joins us now, bill, welcome to the show. Hey, good morning, everybody jedediah so good morning to you so tell us what your message is here. So the message at mission bb q remains unchanged. Our message is to serve, honor, and thank our american heros and weve been doing that since our first day in business which was september 11 of 2011, and despite the fact that were going through these challenging times i couldnt be any more proud of our teammates, i couldnt be any more thankful for our customers, and despite the fact that we cant gather in any of our 93 locations today, were still open and we are so thankful for that. A number of people have it far worse than we do and were not worrying about what we dont have but what we do have. And what we still do have at mission bbq, were open, we can still serve our communities and extend our handout and hopefully continue to support those First Responders that continue to do Amazing Things even through these very difficult times. Todd speaking of difficult times, bill, what is the impact on your business been so far in the last couple weeks . Its been significant, but most importantly, we see very very focused on trying to accomplish the mission as well as taking care of our teammates and were going to do everything we can to keep every single teammate employed as well as part of our team because we know this too shall pass, and we cant wait then for that day to come. Pete this too shall pass. Every day at noon, as we said in the intro, you sing the National Anthem at your locations, what are you doing instead right now . So we are still business as usual. Since our first day in business, we have taken two minutes out of every day at 12 noon, we shut our kitchens down, we make an announcement and we play that National Anthem and we play that because we can and were going to continue that now in a different format so beginning today, at 12 noon eastern, we will be broadcasting live on facebook the National Anthem every single day until this is over and we will do it with pride.
