>> i think that is high praise. forgetting what dan phifer said. when president obama gave a very impassioned and i think heart-felt good-bye to jay carney at the podium, there is nothing like that relationship between the press secretary and president if there is a good one. there have been some bad ones, but typically it's a good relationship. it's weird to watch how shinseki forced into a resignation and jay carney has been rumored a long time looking to leave. i think he served about as much time as a press secretary can serve in today's modern time with technology. >> do you find it ironic here carney was a long-time reporter for "time" magazine, reviled by reporters. >> it was interesting to watch. tony snow was the press secretary before me. i worked as his deputy. he had been in media but in the talk show world, in the conservative commentary world. when he came to the white house, it wasn't like he was leagues with the people in the white house press corps. jay carney was different. you knew him as a friend and neighbor. i knew him when he was d.c. bureau chief for "time" magazine. maybe it's the sign of the times, but one of my criticisms has been, i think they are just entirely too partisan from the white house in general, but from the podium in particular. the press secretary job is not the dnc spokesperson or the rnc spokesperson. you are the press secretary for the entire country and that really matters. >> i loved that job. it was a great honor. i always thought it was amazing when we would travel, i was more recognized in south korea or in israel than i would be in the united states. that's because when you are worried about your country and you count on the united states to protect you, you watch the press secretary. >> of course. >> big day in washington because of secretary shinseki being forced to resign, essentially. this is after calls from both sides of the aisle. the call is getting louder and louder. it seemed he was so politically toxic he had to go. how do we clean up this mess? >> the white house did what they had to do. the tidal wave against shinseki was getting to be something that would overwhelm them. that doesn't mean their problems go away. i hope somebody was clear-eyed and realized if this was happening in phoenix, this times x is happening all across the country. those problems that they are systemic across the country will be revealed. the deputy sloan gibson has to have the confidence of the president, but also very innovative thinking. the hill will be on top of him. i hope this thing is different. i hope we don't manufacture some sort of problem and then pretend we fix it so three years from now we are always talking about the same thing. >> here's the president saying he takes responsibility for the problems at the v.a., but not really. watch this. >> in terms of responsibility, as i've said before, this is my administration. i always take responsibility for whatever happens and this is an area i have a particular concern with. this predates by presidency, when i was in the senate i was on the veterans affairs committee. i heard first hand veterans who were not getting the kind of services and benefits they had earned. i pledge that if i have the privilege of serving as commander in chief and president, we would fix it. the v.a. is a big organization that has had problems for a very long time. >> it sounds like whining to me. one hand, back when i was a senator we knew problems existed. you know what? this all existed well before i got here. don't put the blame on me. >> i liked peggy noonan's column today in the "wall street journal." governing is not the fun part, the fun part is hanging out with celebrities and traveling around the world and doing the things you are interested like the nfl concussion thing or help the needy, but the role of the executive is to manage the agencies they are in charge of. president obama didn't mention the wounded warrior commission in 2007 that president bush put into place partly in response to this issue. president bush could have blamed president clinton and his dad and presidents before him for all issues including 9/11. that excuse-making wears very thin with the american people. where it doesn't seem to wear thin is in the west wing. they use it for everything. if you could have take that speech plus president obama's west point speech he gave monday on memorial day, basically, i call it the west pointless speech. part of what he did was rebut all his critics. why rebut critics that aren't criticizing you. there was no clamor for that speech. i say this every saturday. every week i think they had one of their worst weeks. it doesn't seem to catch up with them in their minds. i think the country is moving away from them. now i think the country is starting to move ahead. they want to know what's going to happen. >> the numbers are bad but not as bad. >> one more thing you had this week we want to share it with everybody, the story about your frog. >> oh, do you have it? >> okay. my producer likes to send me funny things. they put a frog on a sprinkler and he is going for a ride. i thought this week america needs to see a frog on a sprinkler. maybe people don't know. say you find a video like that and you think it's so cute i want to use it for one more thing. you have to contact the person to get permission to run it, but if you put a frog on a sprinkler on youtube, you want everyone to look at it. you still have to get permission. that's the law. i made a public appeal and the guy dan egan gave me permission on twitter. america needed to see a frog on a sprinkler. >> you paid our day. >> bob made fun of me. he said dana, never overpromise on one thing. i teased this for two days. >> is twitter legally binding now? >> it is. >> i don't know. he said i'm the guy that filmed the frog on sprinkler and you have my permission. >> people are doing their nuptials on twitter. >> you could come up with your own fake permission slip. i would never do that. >> thank you. the legal department says stop by on your way out. i'm glad the frog got permission. >> great to have you. nine minutes after the hour. we have other stories. reports are legendary golfer phil mickelson, billionaire investor carl ikhan and walters, looking at trades involving clorox. mickelson's lawyer denies he is the subject of any investigation. an american citizen from florida responsible for this. law enforcement officials believe the man carried out the suicide bombing in syria. makes him the first american involved in the country. it was circulated by jihada social media site. it's unknown how many people were killed in the bombing. a hero green beret slamming gwyneth paltrow after she compares celebrities to soldiers going to war. a purple heart recipient wrote this, "a long line of star bucks, your driver being three minutes late, scuff mark on your $1,200 shoes and a mean tweet do not constitute difficulty in the eyes of a soldier." >> well, we don't believe they leaked it, we know they leaked it. according to then secretary of defense robert games. we can't prove that led to the shootdown of the chopper. what we know it was a breach of national security according to then secretary of state robert gates. they agreed the details of the raid wouldn't come out but that all fell apart the next morning. he said that on tv as he addressed special operators and their families concerned about them being compromised because their secrecy is utmost to the success of their operation. >> we know the administration has leaked previously unconfirmed information in the aftermath of the bin laden killing in an effort to get publicity for that, to take credit for it, they leaked information that a lot in that community were mad about. what is the administration's response to your charges they led to your son's death? >> there has literally not been a response what billy and i have come to understand and what this nation has come to understand is that this administration has a child-like compulsion to score political points with no regard for the human cost. we've seen it over and over again. take a look back in history at the koran burning. when our president came out and excoriated the burning, 37 of those were u.s. soldiers and came out later and said, oops, i made a mistake. they did it properly, there was no breach of trust or respect, but this administration is continuous. we had just recently the double agent for the saudi british op that went bad. our admini he was trying to still keep his mission ongoing, our administration outed them. it's a continuous breach. >> to take credit for what happened. >> right. for political points and spiking the football. i think the american people have had enough. >> we outed the pakistan doctor who helped in the bin laden raid. outed him while they were denying it, the white house, leon panetta particularly said yes, he was the one. that man as far as i know is still in prison. we compromised in fast and furious our border agents on the southern border. it goes on and on again. you wonder, is it because they are very unprofessional but is it because they are unprofessionals and novices or complies why it in destroying and dismantling the institutions that provide security to the republic of the united states of america. >> very quickly, your son a navy seal, special operations guy, you are very familiar with that. is this concern widespread in the special operations community? >> there have been people who talk to us about their concerns. the word i had used to me is they're watering us down and there is a compromise of confidence between the war fighters on the ground and the administration and our upper leaders in washington. this makes it unsafe for the war fighters and it makes it unsafe for national security for the citizens of our united states. >> tucker, i'm not sure many people are aware that not only did joe biden out the navy seals after the bin laden raid, but on june 24, 2011 which happened to be our son's 30th birthday, leon panetta outed the names of the men who ran the raid. this is unprecedented. we have to at some point stop and say where does the buck actually stop with this administration? will anybody ever be held accountable for what has happened to real people in this country? after that, after joe biden outed the seals, aaron called me to tell me my life was in danger. how that is fair for any u.s. citizen to be compromised by the administration who is too inept to maintain national security. >> thank you for joining us this morning. >> thank you. a v.a. hospital chapel hiding jesus and mary behind a curtain. this is in a chapel. they say the government made them do it. plus the white house setting its sights on one of america's popular sports, football. what the administration is demanding be changed. reaction from a former nfl star.
