hard to imagine that continuing the payroll tax cut will do anything at all to stimulate the economy. taking it away could have hurt. continuing it -- >> it's an election year. do they want to get their noses bloodied again last real fight scheduled on the books before the election. goes through the end of the year. one thing have to relitigate is bush era tax cuts at the end of the year. that will be post election time. president obama for the first time mentioning them by name when he was out on his west coast three day trip there for his fundraising group. he was in front of bill gates, formerly of microsoft standing off to the wings when he said this about the bush era tax cuts. the bush ear i can't era tax cuts are going to expire at the end of the year. going to have to shape what our tax policy is and how we reduce our deficits. i have not seen in my lifetime as stark a choice as we have in 2012. >> they pay about $17,000 to sit down and attend and hang out with the president. >> to hear the president talk about this. >> this is clearly the rhetoric that the president is going to use into the election. going to be about taking care of the rich or, you know, this is the narrative he hopes will get him reelected. paul ryan though talks about the responsible direction this country should head. in here is the congressman from wisconsin. >> this is what motivates me, bill. look, the point i -- knowing these numbers and knowing where the country is heading and knowing my kids 7, 8 and 10 years old are literally going to have a lower standard of living and diminished future than what we have. that's irrefutable fact based on where we are headed. >> so much more on that and the president's trip out west coming coming up later in the show. including. this speaking later in the show he to the mother of a fallen marine who is fairly offended by what governor chris christie of new jersey has died to do with the thrags. sort of an education in all of us who decides when to lower thing in. why is the flag here in new jersey at half-staff? >> well, the daily caller we have been doing an investigation all week long looking in and we have had numerous sources sources from ie and with the memos we know media matters has regular meetings with white house officials. anita dunn and valerie jarrett. getting the message they want out for the media great relationships with msnbc and reporters at places like the "the washington post" and politico. but, you know, it goes -- that's why a lot of people are saying should taxpayers officially be subsidizing media matters. >> give us a back story on the two folks. one you mentioned david broke the founder of media matters. the other is kathleen kennedy who is behind this american bridges super pac. what's the back story between these two? >> kathleen kennedy townsend was put in charge by david broke of american bridge when it started a couple years ago. she is robert kennedy's daughter. she is also the former lt. governor of marilyn. a committed democrat and she has vowed in interviews she will spend millions of dollars using american bridge to go after republicans and that's what we are seeing. they have a staff of just tons of guys that are out there researching digging up dirt on republicans. and the whole idea is if they do this as an organization, democrat campaigns and other organizations they don't have to spend the money to dig up dirt. this real solid a group that is all about digging up opposition research. run by david broke a guy who says that his group is there just to find out whether media organizations are being fair. obviously david broke has a political agenda. >> that appears pretty clear. they may, in fact, use private investigators to trail broadcasters and conservatives alex pappas from the daily caller. appreciate you being on. >> you bet. >> remembering a music legend family and friends preparing to say their goodbyes to whitney houston. we are live in newark, new jersey, where her funeral is set to take place in just a couple of hours. >> then, how about a baby ccino. one restaurant serving coffee to your kid does. is it harmful to their health? [ male announcer ] now there's a mileage card that offers special perks on united, like a free checked bag, united club passes, and priority boarding. thanks. ♪ okay. what's your secret? ♪ [ male announcer ] the new united mileageplus explorer card. get it and you're in. >> welcome back, when we hear about the war in afghanistan, it's often tied to reports of progress. military and political leaders telling us the situation is improving. but is it really? >> yeah. a new report to congress. a u.s. army officer says our top military brass is misleading the public about the afghan war and how it's really going on. how does he know? he has actually been there and you are looking at him. right now it's army lt. colonel daniel davis. nice to see you this morning. welcome to the show. >> thanks very much. appreciate being on here. >> this is exhaustive report that you put together with many, many interviews while you there were in the war zone. one of the things though you allege in your report is outright omission. and even deception. by the military and by the pentagon to deceive and omit. that's a harsh accusation. what evidence do you have? >> and it is. when you take a look at the things that are actually existing on the ground and then especially when you take a look the things been said overtime. no way that can be frew. so if you know what's going on. if you are aware of the situation and you are characterizing it to the public in ways that are very different than that, i'm not sure how else to call that. >> to clayton's point, lt.. there are two problems. one is what's happening on the ground and two what is being told the american people. let's start with the first to you. you have seen it, you have been to afghanistan. what is the biggest problem with what we're doing there in the mission? >> right. there is a number of them, of course. i will focus on some of the most important. please forgive my voice i'm having a little bit of laryngitis today. >> don't worry. >> in order for a counter insurgency to work there is a number of things that have to happen. all of them have to happen to one degree or another. the people have to alive with their government and counter insurgent forces which is us reject the insurgent forces. the government has to be minimally capable and non-corrupt and then, of course, the insurgency itself has to be beaten down at least to a sufficient version to where the host country's military forces can handle it without existential help. in my view after 12 months running around the country and talking to literally hundreds of soldiers, none of those things are occurring. >> one of the most damning things in your report i have to say is what you say about certain pa will twos. and i'm not going it put words in your mouth. you just tell us what you discovered on some of these patrols by our military. >> yeah. in one particular one this summer was really poignant down in the northern kandahar area, it was 116 degrees. we had just taken down particular building complex and set it up strong point clear the area. joint u.s. afghan patrol. they went out there and like i said it was 116. the united states guys start doing the normal stuff and establishing strong points, building up defensive positions doing deliberate cleaning to make sure there are no more iudu's exhausting work when you are carrying all that body armor et cetera. the u.s. guys started their work. afghan guys went to bailing and went to sleep and stayed there the entire day. that was the first day i had been out there with them. i said is this typical or unusual? and they said, almost the same story everywhere in afghanistan i went. they said absolutely this is what they do every day. they don't any of the hard work. they let us do everything. they don't take part in the risk. we have to do that for them. >> this is not the story we are hearing from the pelc. we appreciate you being with us colonel. >> hope your voice detectives better. colonel, we appreciate it. >> thank you i appreciate it richest americans need to pay their fair share. is the message sticking with voters? we are going to ask mark next. >> kick in the -- >> screams. >> well, we are sorry, rick. >> take up a collection. >> left some good news for you, rick. there is 20 extra dollars going to remain in your paycheck. that is about 80 bucks a month for most americans because the payroll tax cut has been extended for americans. so some good news depending on how you look at thing. >> got 20 bucks going toward 800. >> 20 bucks a week. >> most of the year he could save up for a new ipad. >> that brings up the larger point whether this would do anything to stimulate the economy. politicians this was bipartisan effort. speaker boehner had his hands deep in this deal. certainly this is not a bloody battle that any politician wants to get in election year. money is going to be coming out of their paychecks. the president talked about this yesterday out on the campaign trail. take a listen. >> middle class tax cut is something i proposed in my jobs bill back in september. and because you kept the pressure on congress, because you reminded people what it means to have 40 bucks taken out of your paycheck every week, it got done. this is a big deal. i want to thank members of congress for listening to the voice of the american people. it is amazing what happens when congress focuses on doing the right thing instead of just playing politics. >> now, there is an election coming, i would like to point out here real real quick. that money didn't poof appear. the money is going to come from somewhere. let's listen to what senator can dakotas -- coats has to say. >> let be honest and say we are taking the money out of your social security trust fund to extend the program here to give you a so-called tax break it is a shell game and it's going to have to be repaid. >> and democrat are rg ing it has been a shell game the with bush era tax cuts. tax hike how are you going to pay for that republicans didn't pay for the bush era tax cuts. that is coming to the fore. those are set tox prior at the end of this year. president obama saying those bush tax cuts are going tox prior at the end of this year. whoever is president is going to shape what our tax policy is and how we reduce our deficits and how we maintain fiscal stability. i have not in my lifetime seen as stark a choice as we have for 2012. that is the message. middle class versus the rich. >> payroll tax cut extension is a good thing. the bush tax cuts is a bad thing. that's what's you are going to hear laid out in the campaign. paul ryan says hold on, you know the courageous steps he has taken to try to reform things like social security. here is what he said about all of this recommendation this is what motivates me, bill. look, the point -- knowing these numbers and knowing where the country is heading and knowing my kids 7, 8 and 10 years old are literally going to have a lower stashed of living and more diminished future than what we have. that's irrefutable fact based on where we are headed. >> to add on to that, paul ryan would also tell you that the president's budget had nothing about reforming these entitlements like social security. so, on one hand, you are taking away with it with this payroll tax cut and doing nothing to reform them with your own budget. that may be the republic narrative moving forward as well. >> have you been spending a lot of time at home with your brand new baby logan. >> i have. a lot. >> you have noticed anybody falling -- following you? >> no. why? >> because media matters i think would be looking into some of the broadcasters that they are concerned about. >> they are considering private investigators trailing conservatives and broadcasters at this network. >> staff members and others. it's interesting because of their 503 c status. their tax exempt status and they can't be an actionable organization. so we wanted to look at where they get their money, actually. so you can actually look at how this organization is funded. here is just a list of the individuals and organizations that have been funding media matters. the tide foundation for about $4 million. george soros, open society institutes about a million dollars. the ford foundation nearly a million dollars. the sandler foundation about $400,000. >> they bank rolled acorn at one point. >> yeah. >> schuman fund for media and democracy $600,000. that's managed by long time pbs host bill moyers and his son. barbra streisand foundation. grand and moveon.org. 50,000. >> and let's be clear about who exactly media matters is run by david broke with questionable background. this is an organization dedicated to one thing. basically attacking fox news and any type of conservative message and to silence anything in fact coming out of this network. the problem to clayton's point is they have tax exempt status. what is 501 c 3? it is clearly defined. those organizations may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates. now, we have been told by the dale live caller who investigated this organization, they have regular meetings with the white house how to silence these type of messages. >> it's also interesting. think about where you can actually put your money. if you are sitting out there saying i want to make a charitable. i want to give it to nonprofit. somebody who could really use the money. >> boy scouts, girl scouts. >> red cross. you could do things like that to donate money. >> tough call. >> really tough call. >> that's a lot of people. >> the president says the richest americans need to pay their fair share. >> everybody gets a fair shot. everybody does their fair share. everybody plays by the same set of rules. >> but is the message sticking with voters? >> here to weigh in on this is former speech writer mark teese. >> good morning. >> when you hear that and hear rick santorum saying that, is that what the american people want to hear? >> no. and it's not the strategy the republicans should be taking. look. obama is playing the class warfare card. it's the only card he has. can't campaign on theme of morning in america like ronald reagan is did. it's not morning in america. trying to create a wave of class envy and resentment that he could ride to re-election. fortunately -- unfortunately the republicans are helping him. rick santorum saying income inequality is a good thing. instead of defending income inequality, what the candidates should be saying, mr. president your policies are exacerbating income inequality. under your administration 2.6 million people have gone from middle class into poverty. millions of people can't find work. millions of people who are underemployed. used to have full-time jobs now only working part time. your policies are responsible for. this you are making income inequality worse. >> do you think that was a risky move for santorum to say that? >> yes. i think it's exact wrong way to say it we shouldn't be defending income inequality. what we should be talking about is barack obama has brought us a downward mobility society. we should be championing upward mobility. in a society that is growing, people don't care about income inequality. republic view is not that we should divide of a shrinking economic pie for equitably. we should be growing so everybody gets a bigger slice. have to have optimistic message about ending barack obama's destructive economic policies so we can get the economy growing again and people, all americans' incomes rising that should be the policy. >> sports analogies i am nerdier maybe i will do chess analogy here. payroll tax extension is chess board one of the pieces on the chess board has been removed and that's not part of the debate going forward in the 2012 election. the bush era tax cuts set to expire at the end of this year will be. who is on the right side of this argument? how this battle will shape up. at issue is the extension of the payroll tax cut praising this bipartisan effort in congress to get these through for the middle class he says. then also coming out and talking about the bush era tax cuts which are set to edges prior at the end of this year. the bush era tax cuts are going to be the big campaign issue. one of the things is he going to talk about coming forward. all about campaigns. not about good economics. not about what's good for the country. you remember he had the votes to repeal the bush tax cuts in 2009 and 2010 and didn't. praised their renewal in december of 2010 saying now is not the time to be raising taxes. that's exactly the argument he was making about the payroll taxes. now is not the time to be raising taxes. let's take those tax cuts from the bush era and raise them. two out of every three people that he is trying to raise is in actuality a small business. it is a company reporting its profits and income on the individual tax rates as the subchapter s. >> you told me off camera about an interesting conversation romney what won't work for the president in terms of is that a winning message? >> i'm not going to refer to my private conversation with rahm emanuel. i wrote the code of silence. i will point to his comment in the newspaper where he said it's insufficient for president obama to simply saul all these problems are my predecessor's fault. we are doing the best we can things could be worse. >> rahm said that's insufficient. i tend to agree with the mayor of chicago. even when i'm not in the decade that health care premiums would grow 79%. now the estimate is will be growing over 110%. it makes sense. if you say we will add a bunch of mandates and rules and requirements and regulations and offer things free like the president's recent decision everything else is the health care world. virtually every sing dwell promise about the affordable care act is turning out not to be true. its yes. it's not a game changer. you get up to a podium and say i think adolf hitler was greatly misunderstood and not a bad guy. that is a political end game. >> nobody quote the governor on that just now all eyes for rick santorum on a question. no question a win for him and leading in the polls right now is a game changer. what would a loss mean in michigan to mitt romney in home state? would it devastate him and his inevitable status? >> it's a big set back if that happens. huge set back. he has to build a fire wall in michigan. not so much because michigan has enough delegates to put him over the top but it's a perception. politics is more about perception than it is reality. the perception is the reality. and that's why rick santorum, who won three straw polls and/or caucuses and primaries that didn't award one single delegate was on fire all of a sudden because in those three states, even though they didn't have delegate selection, the perception was he is going somewhere. and and that's why romney cannot allow that to happen to him in michigan. >> matt said it's hard for knee see how romney rights the ship if he loses to michigan. no level of spin that can overcome that disaster even if he loses by a little margin. county romney machine say this was in play. can any amount of spin overcome this disaster? how has that experience helped do you think? >> i think they relate very similar. as far as what motivational skills can i bring into the locker room. as far as maturity. motivating those around me being a leader. prior service as i was. i think the commitment and work ethic i have waking up every day. just the maturity factor i can bring to a team can be beneficial both on and off the field. >> your dream is to play at virginia tech. you have not yet heard from them. have you heard from some other high profile schools. talk about your experience in football in high school. what was it about football that made you make that promise to your friend and fellow soldier what do you love about it? >> i absolutely love team work, cam rad derly, the at more fear under the lights. hitting it was one of these things in high school when i graduated that last game i can remember just something that i didn't want to ever give up. i didn't want to lose it just then. i now have the potential possibility to make this dream a reality and just go chase it i think it will be a good shot. >> in the youtube video one of the things that really caught my eye was the workouts you were doing. you brought back some of these things, these techniques from the battlefield because you didn't have a whole fancy jim over -- gethsemane in -- gym in afghanistan. i can see you are ripped here. tell us some of the things did you and how that transformed you. >> in afghanistan we didn't have anything. a lot of body weight and simple dumb bells. i brought it back into my daily workouts that i do now. it's really transformed me i'm at the tip of my performance now. i work out five hours a day. creative. >> has his eye on being a slot receiver in college football. think welch walker folks that's who we have in mind here. this youtube video is catching on. i want to talk about the transition from the battlefield back here, you have a friend who has started a nonprofit that helps people with ptsd and making that transformation and it has to do with physical fitness. how helpful is that? "fox & friends" starts right now ♪ >> welcome to "fox & friends" on this saturday morning, thanks so much. i was saying brew and then the ski came out on the end of it. >> juliet: we know what's on your mind. >> clayton: ff weekend on twitter, let us know should babies be drinking coffee at the coffee shop. >> juliet: let's get to some headlines. a fox news alert looking at new video out of the vatican this morning. archbishop timothy dolan elevated to cardinal and you can see the pope giving him the official red hat and 23 others received the same honor including baltimore's archbishop edwin. and he delivered the keynote address to the pope and the other cardinal designates yesterday morning. the position of cardinal is pre prestigious, and second only to the pope himself. now you're looking at the funeral home in new jersey where reverend jesse jackson just arrived and today right now the hearse holding the singer's body behind that curtain and later on to the baptist church for a private funeral with family and close friend. the service isn't expected until noon, but relatives started to arrive and star-studded guests coming to attend the funeral as well, kevin costner, aretha franklin, stevie wonder and oprah winfrey. so scary, an alleged terror attack targeting one of the nation's most symbolic landmarks, the fbi and police thwarting the plot yesterday in washington. the terror suspect was on the way to the u.s. capitol to detonate what he thought was a suicide vest, amine al kalesi, moroccan citizen here in the united statesle legally. thought he was working with al-qaeda and actually working with the fbi. he has been here since 1999, by the way illegally. and his former landlord in virginia says he spoke with police over a year ago because the landlord thought he was making bombs, with some of his friends there at this, the place where he lived. authorities insists the public was never in danger though, the bail hearing is wednesday and we should find out more about him. it's generating a lot a, latte controversy, sorry had to make that up. talking about a growing trend at coffee shops, so-called babyccinos. we asked them. >> back in the 50's. my swedish grandmother started them on coffee, and a treat for all of us, and we survived abu abuse he served up to us by our loving grandma. >> what happened to being a kid, say no, it's that simple. >> an article, you can't find out if it's coffee in it, decaffeinated espresso. >> most people tell you there's always a little bit of caffeine that finds its way into a decaf for what it's worth. >> clayton: let us know friends@foxnews.com. and rick. >> red eye, black eye, something, more caffeine. and big storms across texas and by tomorrow morning, toward the carolinas, the northern side is going to be snow by tomorrow morning and i'll show you in a second and pacific northwest, the rain and also big time mountain snow, that's good. oregon and washington. this is the storm that we're dealing with right now. a very big storm and colder air behind it and we have some snow across the panhandle of texas and oklahoma and the state of louisiana right now, rarely do you see that much heavy rain falling across the area and it's a soaker and big time flooding with this as well and take a look at what the future cast of this storm does. it continues to pull off to the east and it's large and so it doesn't wind down across texas and louisiana. by tomorrow morning, we're talking about heavy rain across the carolinas, and then snow all afternoon, so places from kentucky all the way to the virginias, and some areas maybe up to about six inches of snow by the time it's said and done, all right, guys. >> oh, boy. >> six inches. >> all right. a lot happened. >> all right, let's talk about what president obama has been doing out on the campaign trail. holding a bunch of fundraisers out there and around the country on the west coast and south carolina. 's touting something really interesting, this position plant bringing jobs back to the united states and obviously, we'll talk about the controversy in a second and here is the president talking about it first, take a listen. >> the dream liner is the plane of the future. and by building it here, bog is taking advantage of a huge opportunity that exists right now to bring more jobs and manufacturing back to the united states of america. >> . >> clayton: senator jim demint took some issue with mr. obama. >> yeah, just to set it up, folks, think back a ways, all right. this is the same plant that the obama appointees at the national labor relations board, essentially wanted to say, not so fast. you can't set up in south carolina. we need to keep this thing up in washington state. we're not going to let them move to a state that doesn't require unions. so, it is strange to hear a guy whose own appointees, again, at the independent, labor relations board basically wanted to shut this thing down. >> yeah, this was seen as a big political mccalculation for the white house in an era of trying to create jobs or talking about jobs in this economy. here is an opportunity to do it and yet, it wasn't being able to get done and here is senator demint to your point, take a listen. >> and he's out there catering to the boeing folks when he's basically been trying to put them out of business in south carolina, in his recess appointments, on his labor relations board and actually made it worse. so, sometimes we just have to bite our tongues and roll our eyes, and the president's campaigning, so, i guess we should expect this. >> and that's governor huckabee said earlier, karl rove said earlier, it's all politics. >> huckabee, rove. >> well, we're talking a similar topic and he's saying it's politics, on the campaign trail and at the fundraisers and here it is. when you hear the candidates talking as senator demint says, maybe you have to roll your eyes. >> we were talking to governor huckabee about the media matters and it's a media watch dog group, and they were going after fox news employees and broadcasters, trying to look back into their personal lives and now we're kind of finding out where the media matters stand, how they get their money and here are some of the places where they receive money-- from which they receive money. tide foundation, georges soros society institute a little over a million. >> dave: ford foundation, about a million bucks. sandler foundation, 400 grand once bank rolled acorn, human fund for need yeah and democracy, 300 k. and you can read them as we roll through. it it prides itself as a media watch dog, a media watch dog, one simple thing, attacking fox news and we've got our hands on a memo the daily caller got their hands on a membero, these people are looking at investigators to follow fox producers and talent and conservatives. and the problem 501 (c)(3) tax exempt status and what's the problem with that, clayton. >> read the language. it may not attempt to influence legislation, put it back up on the screen, to help not just reading if my mouth. as a substantial part of its activities and may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates. so as governor huckabee called it illegal, and here is how it was earlier from talking about the super pac now involved in this whole process. and he of course from the daily caller. listen to the dirt they've found on these guys, take a listen. >> everyone knows that david brock runs matters, and media watch dog, in 2010 he founded this great. american-- a liberal super pac, essentially what they're doing, trying to be, going out and doing the things that are more partisan that media matters really knows they can't do in public. they have a staff of just tons of guys that are out there researching, digging up dirt on republicans and the whole idea if they do this as an organization, democrat campaigns and other organizations, they won't have to spend the money to dig up dirt. >> juliet: and donate money, barbara streisand gives money as well, you know the agenda there, is this a place that you want to give your money to? [ male announcer ] 80 delicious calories. fiber one. >> women back, when he was named the catholic church's number one reverend in the city. timothy dolan soared. today feisty and he joins a new role as he joins the pope's closest advisory council as a cardinal. peter johnson, jr. and father jonathan morris were front and center for cardinal dolan's historic elevation and join us live from rome this afternoon over there. and father, let me start with you, what was the ceremony like to be there front and center. >> first of all, let me say, this is not a green screen. this is the real thing. that is not fake. we are standing right here in front of st. peters basilica in the center of rome and let me mention, i think, it was a he very good introduction, clayton, you mentioned the high profile that he took when he came to new york. and let me say that not only did that happen today, elevation as a cardinal, but yesterday, right here, in front of the pope and all the cardinals of the catholics church, he was selected as an archbishop even before he became a cardinal to give a speech in italian to all of these cardinals and in front of the pope. >> clayton: wow. >> who then quizzed him. archbishop dolan was elevated in front of all of these cardinals into an important position of leadership beyond just new york and beyond the united states of america into a real leader worldwide. it's very significant, i think. >> i absolutely agree. it was exhilarating day, clayton, as a lay catholic, we were here about quarter to seven online with thousands of people and 34 degree weather here in rome and thousands of people in st. peters basilica, an exhilarating ceremony, there were-- there was applause when the pope came in, there was applause for cardinal dolan. cardinal o'brien now of baltimore. there was an excitement and anticipation and clearly, the people here were talking about the important role of the church in america going forward. and the fact that the church has become less self-conscious about it, and so, and is willing to not only talk about spirituality, but american rights and constitutional rights. so, there was a tremendous amount of excitement and we met a lot of people from all around the world, who were excited and happy to be here. incredible. >> we were talking off air-- yeah, go ahead. >> clayton: i was going to say, it's interesting we talk about hill being feisty in the beginning and a boisterous personality and some people call him a rock star. why do you think that is? why is it-- why are we holding that in such high regard? is it an interesting term for the catholic church to say we've got a rock star right now. does the catholic church need that? >> right. well, certainly he's not suggesting that of himself and john paul ii never suggested that of himself. what did he do for christianity in many ways? he made it accessible and i think that archbishop dolan, excuse he me now cardinal dolan is doing that for people and speaking about tough about ethical issues, religious freedom issues, even when it comes into conflict with the general society. but he's also saying, hey, listen, you know, i would love to sit down and share a meal with you. that's the type of guy he is. and i think when he said just the other day that going into, and he said this to the media, going into this talk in front of the pope and the cardinals, he said he felt like all day before doing it, like he was walking around the streets with a bowling ball on top of his head. no doubt, as the man knows how to communicate in very vivid terms. >> and communicates in personal terms. he is an a charismatic person, he literally will embrace you and put you in a bear hug and he put my daughter and wife in a bear hug the other day at st. mary major church and he has that effect on people. not only catholics, but that's just ecumenical quality. to bridge between jews, christians and muslims and i think that will be an important part of his ministry. >> absolutely. >> not only evangelizization of catholics and other people, to bring people into a communion of faith,whatever they believe. >> he said along that sames lines in the talk to the pope and cardinals, this is not about being triumphantistic, we can't be triumphantistic. now is the time to reach out and be humble and joyful because the message is not ours. >> joyful and emergent and as a catholic we've got two great cardinals, cardinal egan and cardinal dolan to the catholic faith. >> clayton: cardinal dolan said one of the big issues in new york, try to walk down the street and not smile as much. we would expect that as cardinals. we'll see if he'll turn that smile down a little bit or we won't want him to. >> unlikely, infectious smile. >> enjoy the beautiful back drop in rome he. thanks for your coverage, we appreciate it. >> nice to see you. >> clayton: coming up on the show, it could have turned into a tragedy. >> yes, ma'am, my bus driver, he's-- kind of conscious, but he's, he's drooling at the mouth. >> we're going to talk to the hero mom who jumped on to a run away school bus full of kids when the bus driver suffered a seizure. and a final farewell to wit whitney, arrival at the celebrities funeral, and all have begun to arrive in new york, new jersey. ♪ they can't take away my dignity ♪ ♪ because the greatest love of all ♪ >> welcome back, quick headlines. u.s. postal service looking to raise the price of stamps again. they want a five cent hike, to 50 cents, part of the plan to end the financial woes and would mean 1 billion dollars extra in revenue each year. and the knicks winning streak is over. but the linnisms show no signs of stopping. and jeremy lin makes to turn one to himself. he filed paper work to trade in the linsanity phrase and two men in california have filed, and both newspapers in new york, can't lin em all. and all righty, one mom in new mexico hailed as a hero for chasing after a run away bus. a crazy story. rhonda carlson was waiting for the school bus to take her daughter to school when she noticed something wrong with the driver. she stopped the bus, jumped aboard after saving the kids and made the 911 call. listen to this: >> noing us-- joining us now, rhonda carlson, take a deep breath there. take us back, your he' outside and waiting, there was another mother there, right, and some other kids. >> yes, ma'am, there were. >> juliet: what happened? what did you see? >> our bus driver was, the bus was coming around the corner like usual, and our kids were getting ready to line up to, you know, waiting for the bus to come and he never stopped, and we weren't sure what was going on, my neighbor and i just kind of were a little puzzled and my daughter, my oldest daughter started running up the sidewalk, hoping to, you know, just maybe we thought it was a new bus driver or something and she noticed something was wrong and she just yelled out to he me, mom, something's wrong with our bus driver and i, i just started running after the bus. and i noticed that he was shaking, he was definitely incapacitated and i started banging and kicking the door and trying to pry it open and that little third grado that opened the door for me, he's my hero if he wouldn't have opened that door for me i wouldn't have been able to stop the bus and get in and put on the brake and turn off the ignition. >> juliet: the parents of the kids on that bus think you're a hero for doing there, there's a bus rolling down the street, you jump on it, sounds like something out of the movie. and did you have any reservations whatsoever about trying to jump on there? >> you know, i think you just doesn't think about it. >> juliet: yeah. >> i think you just, you're in the moment and i'm just so thankful we were there for not only the students, the young children we're talking elementary school children here and the bus driver. i'm so glad we were there, there's lots of parents that aren't at bus stops and i'm just glad it happened where it happened, i'm so thankful. >> juliet: do you want any changes to be made. apparently the bus driver was having a seizure and apparently he's okay. do you have any changes you would want within the bus driving, you the bus drivers themselves? head today a star-studded memorial for the grammy award winner. it starts this afternoon in baptist church in newark, new jersey. and we're noticing that some people starting to arrive. >> yes, juliet. as the hearse winds its way to new hope baptist church some invited guests are starting to trickle into the front of the church there and we're standing in front of the parking lot and seen the last few minutes several cars arriving and people going out and going into the church for the noon going home services, as you saw, the hearse care i go the body of whitney houston son the way to new hope baptist church. before it left the reverend jesse jackson did actually speak to the media and he talked about the legacy of whitney houston. he's known the houston family for several years, has known whitney since she was a child and watched her grow up and said this is a day of mercy and rejoicing and celebration and her mother was her first singing teacher, cissy houston, award winning gospel singing and grew up around dionne warwick, a big name and aretha franklin the queen of soul. all of these singers were her mentors as she grew up and all will be here today to say goodbye to amazing performer, what a voice. all right, now, to some other headlines and whitney houston's funeral not happening without controversy this morning, as you know. governor chris christie of new jersey, ordered the flags at the state to be flown at half staff and angered, and the mother after marine who died one month ago today. here is what she had to say earlier on "fox & friends." >> i think it dishonors and disrespects all of those serving the community for a better cause. especially the military. i think that the way my son lived and the way he died was dishonored when governor christy decided to lower the flags for whitney houston. >> juliet: governor christy defending his decision, saying houston should be remembered as a daughter of new jersey. and lawmakers joining the fight to save an iranian christian pastor to be put to death for honoring his faith. called for the pass tar's release. and held services in his native country was convicted in november of 2010 and appealed his connection up to the iranian supreme court and that trial was held last september when he refused to renounce his christianity. all righty. the story that won't quit. the heart attack grill in las vegas facing calls to close after one customer actually suffered an apparent heart attack. he was eating the triple bypass burger, 6,000 calorie burger, and the director of a medical group and owner, on "fox & friends" earlier today, and the director says, look, it's making a mockery after serious health issue. >> cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of americans and they're making a joke out of it. if everyone's ever experienced a disease or lost a loved one to the disease, you know it's not a joke. >> juliet: he the owner sayses' raising awareness and the >> you know, i understand what he's trying to say. but republicans have a terrible way of getting the message out. what we really need to do is talk about opportunity for all, and you know, when you hear rick santorum says income inequality is a good thing, what that tells americans is that some people are pre destined to be in a lower income bracket. where that's not true. anybody in america has the opportunity to be in whatever bracket they want to. and federal governments just have to step out of the way and allow americans to do this. >> juliet: mitt romney made the comment about the poor and raised the ire of a lot of folks. so, what is the message that should be given? >> the message should be given that we, as americans, should be taking everybody from the lowest common denominator and bring them up, that there is not one person that's pre destined to do better than somebody else. what's great about america is that you can go out and take risks and make decisions and suffer the consequences or reap the benefits and that's available for all americans. >> dave: all right. aside from the the president's rhetoric and saying at these campaign stops, is his policy in general, the things he's doing for this economy, are they helping? >> i don't know, no, absolutely not. as a matter of fact, it makes more people dependent on government, and it makes it so that they don't have this need to go out and do things on their own. and what i'd like to say is we're capable. i reject the notion that a president would go out there and say, you need me to make sure that you get a fair share. i would say that we don't need him, we need americans and we need, we can make decisions ourselves. >> conversely, the argument though, you have people saying look, the poor, they don't have as many students. it isn't fair, it isn't a level playing field. and some people are pre-destined. >> well, if you think about it, it's a lot more difficult under this president to go out and open up a business, because, the tax burdens are so heavy. because the regulations are so heavy. so, for a president who says that we want to be able to create jobs, he's doing everything he can to keep it and make it more difficult for americans to go out and do this? a startling study. >> and mark siegel from the medical a-team, always told to buy organic, so we don't have the chemical and the issues and we've heard about the apple juice scare before with arsenic. now, organic baby food has arsenic? >> that's the first headline, clayton, organic doesn't automatically mean safe. it doesn't automatically mean it, but here is what's happening. arsenic is in the soil. and arsenic loves rice, rice plants pick up a lot of arsenic, and that's why the studies, have been documenting that, a fair amount of arsenic in the rice and the environmental protection agency allows ten parts per billion arsenic in water, but in this study, they found 20 times that, 20 times the amount of arsenic in brown syrup that's used in infant formula than in regular infant formula. or six times the amount in water. in other words, there's more arsenic than we were expecting, but talking parts per billion. so, i want viewers out there to know, this is a very, very small amount of arsenic, nobody at this point thinks that there's human health risks with this, but it's never been studied over a long period. now, there was a study done in chile in the '80's and '90s, and you know what happened, six times greater incidence of lung cancer, higher risk of bladder cancer, a question of developmental problems and thinking problems later on, not something to just dismiss, but we don't know what the small apartments mean. >> dave: we heard a lot about this following the dr. oz apple just investigation. if you're a parent of a newborn, which i happen to be, what do you go out there and buy? what do we know is safe? >> well, i don't, i wouldn't tell you, dave, that you can't use this stuff. i'm not going to come on national tv. >> dave: would you do that if you had a newborn at home. >> i would, but i'd be careful about it and say how much rice products is the newborn getting and a newborn parent, i had a newborn a few years ago, i'd say to the the f.d.a. how about getting some standards here, how come the ep limits water and you're not limiting rice. it's not that somebody is putting the chemical into the brown rice syrup, it's there and nobody is regulating. >> clayton: that's the scary part, we had a newborn a year and a half ago as well a rice cereal and mix with hot water and organic and not getting the bottled chemical stuff. >> and the bottom line i want parents to be conscious how much rice products they're giving their infant. but looking back, i don't think your infant is in danger, the amount is too small, but the biggest thing is fear, people are going to be afraid. we need more science not more fear and studied a long period of time. it could be that long-term exposure to small amounts of arsenic is problematic, but i don't think that science shows that right now. >> dave: scary for parents out there. dr. siegel, we appreciate it. coming up on the no, more "fox & friends" in two minutes, we'll be right back. can you enjoy vegetables with sauce and still reach your weight loss goals?
