Third and finally, strike inside syria. The president is clear, his ideas do not include a longterm American Military presence in the area. This is not the equivalent of the iraq war. What this is is similar to the kinds of counterterrorism campaigns that weve been engaging in consistently over the last five, six, seven years. That plan might not be good enough for some democrats, though. Youve heard senator Dianne Feinstein already call for airstrikes in syria and other lawmakers stress action against isis must be taken quickly because it may be hard to pick up american passport holders sympathetic to the cause. The fact of the matter is this group has among their ranks hundreds if not thousands of people with the capability of entering the United States quickly and easily, and we should not take that lightly. On wednesday the president is going to share his antiisis game plan with the nation, and ahead of that tomorrow he will sit down with democrats and republicans from the house and senate to explain his thinking. You can certainly hear the immediacy and the tone of democrats. Lets take a listen to a couple of them. What i want to hear is to reassure the American Public and the world that were standing up, were going to have a strategy and were not going to rest until we bring these people to justice and we stamp them out. Of course, Diane Feinstein is the chairmanwoman of the intelligence committee. Obviously shes in on a lot of information that most americans are not. For her to say that, what do you take away from that, bret . Couple of things. These lawmakers are dealing with these intelligence briefs about the threat from isis and see it as real and developing and this coming up on the 911 anniversary. The possibility of western interest being threatened around the world. So theyre saying project power. I think the question is you have to listen to the words being used. Months ahead now. You see the front page of the New York Times that its going to be a longterm battle against isis. These are signals that the president is going to draw this will be a drawn out battle over time. The New York Times says the experts in the administration say it could be 36 months after the president has actually left. Youre talking about words. Bret, there have been so many mixed messages to the American Public regarding isis and this particular terror threat. The president back in january called them the j. V. Team and two weeks ago, said im going to destroy them, then im going to manage them. Then ive got no strategy. Whatever happened to the barak obama message machine, because its all gummed up now . A number of issues there are some problems with clarity. Thats being charitable. You look at a number of places, politico had a story today primarily about Immigration Reform, with you that the message is muddled, for the speech that had high goals and aspirations and rhetoric often has to get walked back and that becomes confusing. Thats what were seeing on immigration. Its what we saw on isis and the president is looking to turn that around i think with the speech on wednesday. Right. Hes going to ask congress for money on tuesday and then tell america what hes going to do on wednesday. But not a prime time speech. An afternoon speech. Now lets talk about your big special over the weekend, the authors who lived through the benghazi attack on 911 a couple years ago. Here is a cut from them as these contractors talked about what it was like on the ground the night of the attack and who told them to stand down. Comes up, thumbs up, were ready to go. Then what happened . I said hey, were ready to go. Bob looks right through me and looks at them and goes, you need to wait. Bob was the c. I. A. s base chief in benghazi. I said hey, we need to get over there. Were losing the initiative. Bob just looked straight at me and said, stand down. You need to wait. Were starting to get calls from the state department guys saying hey, were taking fire. We need you here. We need help. After being repeatedly told to wait, the Security Team says they divide orders and headed to the besieged consulate on their own. They asked repeatedly for armed air support, which never came. I gave you that 30 minutes back, would ambassador stevens and sean smith be alive today . Yes. They would still be alive. So thats what it comes down to. They say they were told to stand down and the way the Administration Explains it is there was never a stand down order because we never order them to go anywhere and that bob guy was just saying hang on a second. Yeah. It is a semantics issue here. And that the state Department Says that there is no formal stand down order. Its not just the state department. Its many reports, including the House Intelligence Committee saying that. But the semantics of the formal stand down order as opposed to dont go, wait and what these guys say is stand down, i think is where this battle is. The bottom line is this is the first time weve heard from these guys on the ground and almost two years and they tell their story and they say they believe with that 25 minutes roughly, they would have been able to make a difference. The Administration Says the c. I. A. Was working to get local militias to back them up, provide more weapons. Those never really came and the guys were on their own and they disobeyed the order to go and they went on their own. Yeah. Tourists plucked from Yosemite National park by helicopters as a wildfire burns out of control around them. At least 100 visitors, mostly hikers and campers in the area, have been rescued so far. They were climbing the popular half dome peak and they were air lifted out of there. Then reunited with their family members who were obviously so worried about them. Sundays strong winds and High Temperatures fueled the fire that was sparked by lightning several weeks ago. So far 700 acres have been burned. Just as children go back to school, more than 1,000 children around the country are getting slammed with a mystery virus and it is spreading. It starts off like the common cold, but it sends some kids rushing to the hospital because they couldnt breathe. So far children from colorado to North Carolina have been hit by this mystery illness. Doctors warn that there will be more children affected by this. Who is most vulnerable . Listen to this. Kids who have more respiratory illnesses like asthma or Cystic Fibrosis are presenting with a more severe form of it. Respiratory distress, requiring nebbizers and sometimes having a breathing tube. It can get pretty severe relatively rapidly. Also children under the age of five are particularly at risk. Doctors say Pay Attention to the symptoms, they include coughing, sneezing, runny nose and wheezing. Currentsly there is no vaccine for the virus, but you can be tested at your doctors office. You take look now, 53 democrats plus two independents who caucus with democrats. 45 republicans right now. Republicans need a net gain of six for control. If they have that, that changes everything. This just if hes putting things off, that shows you there is trouble. Sure. Theyre nervous and i think its fair to say, the latino base will be depressed, but it will affect just one race for the senate and thats in colorado. Most of the rest of the state, this will not have a huge impact. However, i think youre wrong, steve. Its not just about getting six seats. The real story is looking to 2016. If the republicans get to 51 or 52, theyre going to face a real tough map in 2016. The republicans will be favored to win the white house. The new republican president would want to have a Republican Senate and that means the republicans need to set their sights higher this year. It will be a long shot, bget a. Almost everyone agrees there has been no wave yet. Lets look at the columns that you say are vulnerable to democrats. Mark pryor is trailing by four points in arkansas. Mary landrieu trailing within three points in louisiana. Kay hagin maybe have a one point advantage in North Carolina. Those three democrats are in strongly republican states right now. States where the president is unpopular, where his Health Care Law is unpopular. Thats not a surprise, those three senators. The fact that were talk being races in colorado and massachusetts and iowa, maybe massachusetts for a governors race, but weve got a big race in michigan. Weve got alaska in play. There is enough seats where you can say hey, these seats are all tossups right now. Could still go either way. If they break for the republicans, its another story. Here is the thing, there is a lot of impersonators because everybody wants hardwood, so they make other products that look like it. Here is the reality. You have your traditional pieces. This is very traditional. This is a piece of maple actually. Its true hardwood through and through. And to be honest, were trending away from that at the moment. Were moving more toward these types of products. This is also a true piece of hardwood. Weve seen all hardwood, but a preoil finish. You can work on the floors you have . Thats the return youll get. If you have wood underneath those carpets, older wood and you can rip up the carpet and refinish it, thats the best return youre going to get. But in terms of the synthetics, were trending toward vinyl. This is a piece of vinyl. Thats a beautiful piece. I really wanted to show it is case that. I wanted to show this because weve had a lot of flooding. You heard a lot of issues with flooding you see a lot of mold in the basement. These vinyl also not turn to mold. They finally came to a verdict in 82. Why would any defense attorney do that . Well, i dont have an explanation, but what happened was he was given three bites at the apple. And thats not fair. Its not right and it shouldnt have happened that way. If he couldnt make his burden of proof the first time, case over. Let me ask you something. From a humanistic standpoint, are you stunned that a fellow navy seal would sue the widow of another navy seal over something that a lot of people said happened and he said didnt after chris kyles death . Well, its one thing to take on another navy seal man to man. Its another thing to sue a navy seals wife after that navy seal was murdered. Right. So whats next . Well, whats next is we filed a motion for judgment on the insufficiency of the evidence and then the alternative a motion for new trial. What that does is it gives the trial court an opportunity to look back, like monday morning quarterback, and see some of the errors that occurred during the trial. Look, errors occur in every trial. Most of the time theyre harmless errors. But in some cases, like in this case, there are some errors that would have made a difference. We feel like bringing those matters back to the trial courts attention, we should get some relief. I just hope some of the eyewitnesses will be allowed to testify.
