>> who is pushing him to endorse anybody right now? santor santorum, i know he doesn't like personally. >> i don't think that endorsement changes the scope of anything. it will still be the discussion of whether or not mitt romney is conservative enough for the conservative sect of the republican party. >> and a number of conservative republicans in iowa in the congress aren't even endorsing anybody at this point. interestingly enough, go back four years ago, it was rick santorum who endorsed mitt romney so the headline is that mitt romney wins by eight last night in the iowa caucuses and we spoke about this a little earlier, the turnout was, you know, it was a record breaker. apparently, the people of iowa motivated, they would like -- on the republican side, they would like somebody new in the white house, they just don't know how to do it or who to do it because as you can see, it's a fractured field. >> so right now, what happens to the rest of the candidates? >> yeah, but i -- but again, i'm not sure it's in romney's interest to get rid of santorum. i don't think you'll see romney attacking santorum much because he needs santorum to dilute gingrich. and strategically, i think that's the case. the other thing that's really important about this is santorum didn't win last -- didn't do very well last night because he visited 99 counties and worked his butt off. that wasn't it at all. it was that he was the last survivor. this group of voters had to go somewhere so they went to bachmann and then they went to perry and then they went to cain and then they went to gingrich and they went to ron paul and then ended up with santorum. and it was simply that he was the default choice. the last one standing. i think the final point here about this primary is that the reason the negatives were so potent is that voters basically did not want a vulnerable kanld date because they're so focused on beating obama and romney looks like a winner tonight, this morning. and gingrich lost. and i think that people do not want what they would perceive as a vulnerable candidate. >> right. >> so i think romney comes out of today very strong. >> and with our entrance polling, we asked people going in, they said that romney was by far the most electable. real quickly, though, for a while in the 8:00 and 9:00 hour last night, ron paul was leading extraordinarily to the amazement of some people, who were all those people who showed up for him? >> well, not quite. but there's tremendous momentum for romney. it won't be over until it's really over and i think sometimes, perhaps, a buyer's remorse might set in of people who say wait a minute, i don't want a guy who pushed romney care and i don't want a guy who used to be pro choice. but i think that it doesn't matter how much romney wins by in new hampshire. as long as he wins there. he's in good shape but then he goes into south carolina where he faces a divided opposition. the central element in terms of romney's ability to do a sweep that he talked about is gingrich's ability to put santorum away. santorum isn't where he is because he did brilliantly in any debate or because it's an issue position like 9-9-9 or because he's a woman or anything like that. he got where he got because everybody else was gone and the voters -- the voters hate someone who is a loser and when they see bachmann cratering and then perry and then cain and then gingrich, they don't want to go with those people because they're so scared that obama is going to beat them. >> what do you make then of south carolina because the last polls show that newt gingrich was up 31% over romney somewhere in the teens. if they were to do a poll today, what would you expect that to say about rick santorum and newt gingrich? >> well, i think santorum would be very strong. i think that that's gingrich's problem. for him to be able to stop romney from sweeping the table, he's got to get rid of rick santorum. and the strength there is that he's a much better debater than rick santorum. on the other hand, he looks weak and vulnerable coming out of iowa and santorum looks unbeatable and unstoppable. so my feeling is that gingrich's big problem here is santorum. if ron paul had finished second and gingrich third and santorum fourth, then gingrich would have romney one on one because nobody would pay any attention to paul, they'd be one on one and then gingrich had a good shot to defeat romney in south carolina which gives him an even shot of florida. with santorum being this strong, it's hard -- it would be hard for newt to do that. great debate performances. >> now, newt and santorum are not going to go at it. every time newt has a moment, he salutes rick santorum. i've never heard santorum take on newt. is that a problem? or is it not relevant at all? >> look, we're unlikely to see another contest like even south carolina is not likely to have 56% of the voters be ivan evangelical born again christians. this shows a strength for santorum and a challenge moving forward. we're going to go to one of the more secular states in the country when it comes to voting and that's new hampshire. >> just to finish up, the tea party not a surprise, rick santorum or more appetizing than mitt romney. ron paul is there and newt gingrich is there. do you see anything in those numbers? because 10 days ago, nobody thought he was going to win this thing and now he's going to go into new hampshire where people think he will be the inevitable winner there. and this is not good news for the president because otherwise, you wouldn't continue to attack only mitt romney. >> no, you see, mitt romney has earned that scrutiny because he has relentlessly attacked the president and mischaracterized his record and distorted the president's record. for mitt romney, it's really a tough situation for him because when is a "win" a loss? when he spent six years and more than $4 million running for the second time trying to win the state of iowa. and you spent the most and only beat the person who spent the least by eight votes. that demonstrates how little support there is on the republican side and little enthusiasm there is for mitt romney's candidacy and he's limping into new hampshire and i think he's really damaged. >> what about the enthusiasm -- damaged? he just won last night. but anyway, what about the enthusiasm for president obama in iowa. >> not quite a victory. >> the enthusiasm for president obama in iowa, there doesn't seem to be a tremendous amount of enthusiasm when we look at this latest poll right now that shows the approval ratings amongst iowa voters polled 45% approve of president obama, 43% disapprove and if we can go immediately to the rasmussen poll, the latest one that shows the head to head between president obama and mitt romney, this is a national poll now. and it shows that mitt romney would beat president obama 45% to 39%. what do you make of those numbers? >> i haven't seen that poll, every recent poll that i'm familiar with shows head to head that president obama beats any of the republicans in the field and i'll tell you, if you look although -- if you're questioning the enthusiasm in iowa or across the country but particularly in iowa for the president's campaign, look at the same situation that george w. bush found himself in when he was running for re-election, that the turnout for him at those caucuses was abysmal. nothing like 25,000 iowans we had show up at our caucus sites. we made calls into iowa for our supporters. we have 4,000 one-on-one meetings that we've already had. 1,200 meetings, house parties, training sessions and that's all in an effort through our eight offices around the state of iowa to make sure that we have the significant grassroots campaign that we'll need to win this state again and that's while all the republican candidates closed up shop today, we'll continue to expand our outreach and operation here and like in every battleground state, run an effective grassroots campaign. >> what's the strategy for the dnc moving forward? will we see more people like randy johnson who came out, a former employee who mitt romney let go from bane capital, will we see more people like that that the dnc will sponsor to come out and speak out against mitt romney? >> you'll definitely see us at every opportunity helping iowans and americans understand that mitt romney has very little convictions, that the conviction that he has is to boost corporate america and the wealthiest, most fortunate americans, that this is a person who has no conviction and is willing to go from saying in 2002, as recently as 2002 that he's deported roe vs. wade and a woman's right to choose and now is pro life. >> let's keep it on jobs. that's the reason you pulled out randy johnson. you were trying to say that he was let go. listen to what mitt romney said about your boss. listen to this. >> this is a president that lost more jobs in his tenure since every president since hoover. we created more jobs in massachusetts than this president has created in the entire country so if the president wants to talk about jobs and i hope he does, we'll be comparing my record with his record and he comes up very, very short. >> and our research shows that from 2009 to now, 1.855, we have 1.855 million fewer jobs under president obama than before he took office. so how will you combat that moving forward? >> gretchen, first of all, mitt romney has absolutely no facts and has at every fact check that's been done, he's not corroborated any about what he's said about his job creation. when he was governor of massachusetts, they were 47th out of 50 in the entire country for job creation. so mitt romney isn't being truthful when he's talking about his record on jobs creation vs. the president's. we've had 22 straight months of job growth in the private sector under president obama's leadership. we've gone from bleeding 750,000 jobs a month when he took office thanks to republican policies to now three years later, we've begun to turn the economy around. the unemployment rate is coming down. we've had almost 3 million jobs created in 22 straight months. we'll stack up president obama's jobs creation record vs. mitt romney who was a specialist at bane capital in dismantling companies and cutting jobs and forcing corporations and businesses into bankruptcy. we'll go against that job creation record. >> the flip side of that, our research shows that mitt romney created 150,000 jobs in that position. >> there's no one that's backed that up with actual facts. >> all right. well, we did. debbie wasserman-schultz, the head of the dnc, thanks so much for your time this morning and coming up, the response from the rnc chairman. reince priebus will be here 7:50 a.m. eastern time. she came in dead last, donald trump called her "terrible." is it time for congresswoman michelle bachmann to drop out of the presidential race? then that's that question of, who do they want and do they want electability or think santorum could win? he has -- santorum has a good beef to make, which is that he hasn't gotten enough national attention and his questionable electability hasn't been fair. but he can't worry about what's not been fair. right now in the next several days, he needs to be able to show, i could beat president obama and i would be a great president. >> brian: by the way, it will be interesting to see him on stage in the middle because he's always been in the wings and he's not getting a lot of questions. now he'll get a lot. i want to bring to you a quote that andrea mitchell said that, rush limbaugh took a shot at. listen to this. the rap on iowa says it doesn't represent the rest of the country. too white, too evangelical and too rural. here is what rush's response was. i want to get yours after. >> i have no doubt that that is exactly how all the media look at iowa. too white, too rural, too evangelical, but there they are covering the hawkeye state. 41% will show up tonight undecided. anything can happen. >> so i saw what she said earlier in the week and when you first read it, you could take it that way. i think what she probably meant is that it's not representative of other states like florida, which would have a little more diversity. i like the fact that the midwest gets to have a say early on because they get ignored so much of the time even here, like either on the east coast or out in california. the flyover states get ignored. i don't necessarily think andrea mitchell meant it the way it sounded, but because of the way she phrased it, she opened herself up to an attack like the one that rush limbaugh made. >> gretchen: we'll be watching you on "the five," i know you'll continue your analysis of iowa and moving forward to iowa. thanks. >> thanks. >> gretchen: the other big stories making headline, her son is suspected of setting 52 fires across california. now she's speaking out, give us a clue about any possible motive. dorothy burkeheart says her son is mentally ill and she's not doing so well herself. she was in court yesterday facing deportation to germany where she's accused of not paying for breast enlargement surgery. while in court, she repeatedly asked about her son. she had no clue he had been arrested for those fires. harry burkeheart will be arraigned today. we first told you about it yesterday, the murder investigation at queen elizabeth's estate. today there are new details, police digs through past cold cases all across the country looking for a connection to the woman found dead on the estate on new year's day. police say the body may have been lying in the woods for up to four months. the u.s. reportedly made a deal now with the taliban, agreeing, quote, in principle to release taliban officials from gitmo. in return, afghan insurgents agreed to open a political office for peace negotiations. there is president obama word if american soldier beau, captured by the taliban, could be freed in this plan as well. >> brian: taliban leaders, they don't have officials -- taliban leaders are going to be allowed out of gitmo who everybody agrees with the worst of the worst. that is incredible. >> steve: remember, taliban, not our enemy. >> brian: i heard about that. >> gretchen: according to the vice president. >> steve: yeah. it is now 11 minutes after the top of the hour on this post-caucus wednesday. next up, how the main stream media's coverage of the republican primaries might already be helping president obama's campaign. >> gretchen: who is that in our control room? calling signals? terry bradshaw. >> brian: give him the head sets. >> gretchen: he's headed in next. bradshaw, i saw you dance on christmas day. you got the moves, babe. >> okay, camera three. camera three. >> steve: that's that one. >> i like that. [ male announcer ] cranberry juice? wake up! ♪ that's good morning, veggie style. hmmm [ male announcer ] for half the calories -- plus veggie nutrition. could've had a v8. >> gretchen: 15 minutes exactly after the top of the hour. moving on with this story now is the main stream media trying to spin the election? fox news -- the election cycle? there was no punctuation at the end of that. >> that's okay. >> gretchen: i'm going to go right into you. peter johnson, jr. thinks the republican presidential hopefuls are being portrayed as a weak field by the liberal leaning press. that's a long sentence. >> it makes sentence. good morning. >> gretchen: so do you believe that the media has something to do with it? >> you have to look at the stories that are out there. there was a story in the left wing blog politico yesterday that basically said that the republican candidates were too small -- let me look at it. that they were uninspired, that there was a talent gap, that there was going to be a second rate presidential nominee was the allegation. then i watched some of the less successful news channels last night and they talk about a cancer on all the republican candidate, a political cancer that they have that the republican party has a romney problem. so what's going on is that the republican candidates, including front runner governor romney are not only running against each other, but they're running against the main stream media and they're also running against the president of the united states because at the same time the press is downloading on republican candidates, the president through surrogates and we saw the about somewhere view this morning with debbie wasserman schultz is targeting mitt romney as the potential nominee of the party, and the person who polls say is the most electable. so it's a very difficult scenario for republican candidates in this climate when the main stream media is all over them in such a big, big way. >> gretchen: let's say that that is the case. is it not also true, though, that republicans amongst themselves have discussed the field of the people that they have to choose from? >> absolutely. this has been probably the most robust primary of any party in a long, long time in the united states. because of the scrutiny of cable news, because of the scrutiny of blogs, and that's a good thing. but in terms of scrutiny, there has to be fairness and so if you're a commentator and an analyst and i'm a commentator and analyst, say you're a commentator and analyst f. you're an activist, say you're an activist. but to pretend that you're a news person, to pretend that you're giving a fair and balanced view of things when, in fact, you have no credentials to do that and your only history is to engage in activism, is to engage in politics, is to engage in propaganda, then that's an unfair portrayal of the news to the american people. what i'm saying is let the buyer beware as we go forward in this process and see how these republican candidates are covered in a way that's absolutely fair and balanced. to say that mitt romney is the front runner, let's see who is much better than he is and then say, well, he's really, really weak, that's an interesting conclusion to come to. >> gretchen: right. because when debbie wasserman schultz says mitt romney had a bad night after a win, we might expect that from the head of the dnc, but maybe not from the media. >> no, you shouldn't. >> gretchen: peter johnson, jr., even though i had a run on sentence, it's always a pleasure. coming up, reports john mccain is about to make a big endorsement. mitt romney? but we don't need reports. we got the scoop from mitt romney himself. stick around for that. then, terry bradshaw has left our control room and he's now in the studio. the nfl superstar not only talking football, he's talking politics. too some of those dance moves i saw you do, bradshaw. do a dance move. >> i just had a bone cut out. what's going on? we ordered a gift oine and we really need to do something with it... i'm just not sure what... what is it? oh just return it. returning gifts is easier than ever with priority mail flat rate boxes from the postal service. if it fits, it ships anywhere in the country for a low flat rate. plus i can pick it up for free. perfect because we have to get that outta this house. c'mon, it's not that... gahh, oh yeah that's gotta go... priority mail flat rate shipping starts at just $4.95. only from the postal service. a simpler way to ship and return. >> brian: with the iowa caucus complete, the republican primary race is in full swing finally, and we can finally be giving voters some clarity to who they want to see in the white house. the competition is stiff and no one knows more about the fight to the finish than our next guest because a lot of people thought he was finished, but he won four super bowls and he's in the prime of his career. terry bradshaw -- >> am i? >> brian: your tv career. >> okay, good. >> brian: i can still see with you a helmet on and making a difference. but first, you love politics. you stayed up and you got up early, 4:00 o'clock in the morning to see the results. >> yeah. i wanted to see the results of the iowa caucus. we got in late last night, watched a little bit of the bowl game, turned it off 'cause i had to get up early. i set my alarm early to watch that. >> brian: in the results, we have mitt romney and you have senator santorum, one and two. does that surprise you, because i know you told me newt has impressed you in these debate. >> thought the debate, especially the last fox debate. i made this very clear, i thought newt gingrich was the most impresssive people i've heard in a long time. politically, i'm not so sure about it, if he's electable. but certainly a smart guy. all of them are smart, but he really impressed me. >> brian: all right. let's talk something else. we'll find out who wins and i know you'll be state side for that. tim tebow created a lot of controversy, people pulling for him. but he's also struggled of late. first off, him as the quarterback? >> tim is a guy that needs good people around him. like he had in florida. he's better offensive line, run the ball pretty well, but his release is slow. he's not ac climatated to the nfl. i don't think he could change that necessarily, but you better put better people around him. >> brian: you love him as a person? >> yeah. >> brian: you and love what he stands for and the courage he's shown. terrell suggs, who will be playing against him, says this, on tebow, without no one asked this question, he said, with all due respect, we don't need god on our side lines. once again, god had to save tell me tebow and the denver broncos. he couldn't give them two drives, 7-3 was the final. so he's mocking him and mocking god. >> better be careful with -- you can take shots at tim, but when you go messing with god, that's a different story. he's obviously an idiom he has no clue what he's talk about and if i was him, i'd be on hi hands and knees asking for forgiveness. >> brian: the other guy, frank aliendo, he spend has lot of time bopping you a little bit. here is frank talk being terry, or being terry. >> working with terry bradshaw, which is a dream come true for him, it's like being on "american idol." he thinks ethe simon cowell, like not fun. it's like, why can't you say that while i'm on tv? come on, guys. let's go shoot some squirrels. i'm hungry. merry christmas, howie! you're taking me home. >> people don't realize, but howie baby-sits terry. >> not funny, frank! i actually had -- fox came to me and said, you have to stop saying that, not funny, because people are listening to you and they're saying, oh, he's not funny. i don't say not funny frank anymore. i got called on the carpet. >> brian: you didn't think jimmy kimmel was that great when he was doing that, but you think frank is great. >> i do. >> brian: i want to talk about something else. you look in unbelievable shape. you dropped some weight. how did you do it? what are you doing? >> a little over a year ago, i went on nutra system for men and did it on my own, saw dan marino on television and don shula and decided i have to do something. i got unhealthy and went up to the post office googled up nutrisystem.com. i started -- i was putting myself on the plan and a year later, lost -- actually had gone as low as 38 pounds. >> brian: now you end up endorsing the product after you used the product. >> right. which is the best way, because it's better to use the product and then get fortunate enough to have a company come in and say, will you endorse our product, then to endorse a product and then use it when you're not even part of it. i actually use it, love it, have recommended it. have bought it for several people. got them on the plan and then all of a sudden out of the blue, they came and asked, would you be one of our spokespersons? and it took me a while because i didn't want to be one of those guys that lost all the weight and said, i've had enough of this. >> brian: 'cause you had to keep it off. >> exactly. i didn't want to embarrass them by putting the weight back on. but it's great food. i love it. it's part of my life. definitely been a life changer. >> brian: so show how much weight you lost, this sunday in the pregame show, you won't wear a shirt. >> no shirt. >> brian: just a tie. >> i think the women will be impressed. >> brian: they always have been in the past. >> i know, going down the hall here at fox, dana and all the others, oh, you look good. >> brian: i heard dana, she was talking football. congratulations on your daughter's success, too. rachel, the outstanding -- >> erin, we love you, too, i got two of them. >> brian: she's special. she's a singer. we should keep an eye out for her? >> absolutely. >> brian: i love your clothing. i'm jealous. >> good to see you, man. >> brian: i wish i wouldn't have to ask you if it was good to see me. >> i should have said that on my own. by the way, it's good to see you. >> brian: thanks lot, terry. >> tell steve hello. >> brian: i never get to see him. john mccain set to endorse mitt romney for president. >> i can read a prompter. what does that mean for romney's campaign? the governor's reaction next. >> brian: you're not done yet. >> no, i'm not paid to do this. >> brian: romney talks about the progress. the facts don't lie, we'll be back in a moment. my name is jill strange, i'm forty-nine years-old, i love gardening, and i love volleyball. i've been taking osteo bi-flex for several years now. i really can't see myself not taking it. osteo bi-flex is a great product. i can go back and do gardening with comfort. they said if you're evangelical, who did you vote for? the fact she didn't win in her home state, that really must have been disturbing. >> steve: if you are just waking up and when you went to bed you didn't know who won the iowa caucus, the answer is mitt romney. it was a nail biter. he won by eight votes over rick santorum, followed by ron paul, then newt gingrich, mr. perry, and michelle bachmann was at 8%. interestingly enough, herman cain got 58 votes. >> brian: wow. >> gretchen: and the other big news we want to share with you right now, it appears that john mccain, the senator from arizona, fox has confirmed that he will endorse his former foe in the 2008 approximately i can't tell race, mitt romney. that endorsement will be steam full ahead for mitt romney as he moves into new hampshire because new hampshire likes john mccain a lot. here is mitt romney earlier on "fox & friends". >> john mccain, of course, is beloved in many parts of the country, particularly new hampshire, some call him mr. new hampshire. so if, in fact, he makes an announcement today, that would be a big for me it a state he knows very, very well. >> brian: he also won florida and he also won south carolina last time. >> steve: sure. so here you've got mitt romney, who last night won iowa ohm by eight, but still, it's a win, heading now into new hampshire, and you got to figure the conventional wisdom is it will be a landslide is there. the latest poll showed him i think at 41%. he was in the 40s. then on to south carolina. that really will be a real test of people like mr. santorum and newt gingrich as well, and whoever else is left. >> gretchen: and so what does mitt romney think about job creation under this current president? when he joined us earlier, here is what he said about president obama's record. >> i think he's in trouble. look, his jobs record is abysmal. he has failed to put in place crippling sanctions against iran. they're pursuing their nuclear plans head long and he's racked up trillion, trillions of additional dollars in deficit. his is a record that's awful and they're going to do everything in their power to try to attack who they think the republican nominee might be. >> steve: i think the democrats have thought it would be mitt romney for a while because he has had the biggest target on his back because they had been going after him, unlike the other candidates. debbie wasserman schultz, the dnc chair, was on "fox & friends" earlier talking about the president's record on creating jobs and she says it's a really good one despite what mitt romney says. >> first of all, mitt romney has absolutely no facts in his -- every fact check that's been done, he's not corroborated any of what he said about his job creation. when he was governor of massachusetts, they were 47th out of 50 in the entire country for job creation, so mitt romney isn't being truthful when he's talking about his record on job creation versus the president's. we've had almost 3 million jobs created in 22 straight months. so we'll stack up to obama's job creation record versus mitt romney who was a specialist at bane capital in dismantling companies in cutting jobs and forcing businesses into bankruptcy. >> gretchen: the flip side is our research shows he created 150,000 job when is he was in that position. >> well, there is no one that has backed that up with actual facts. >> gretchen: all right. we did. that was an interesting discussion with her. but anyway, since president obama took office, the facts do show that there are 1.855 million fewer jobs than before he was president. >> steve: we were promise fundamental congress passed that stimulus package, which was close it a trillion dollars, we wouldn't go north of 8. we hit 10. >> brian: the vice president is in charge of the stimulus. >> steve: how is that going? >> brian: how he's in charge of china policy. fantastic. hey, now all eyes switch to new hampshire where primary preparations are underway and the candidates, the ones still out there, are spread across the state. molly line is in manchester. hey, expect the surge. >> exactly. this is the place to be today if you're a capped date running for the risen nomination for the white house. this is the place to be. we're expect to go see a lot of candidates here today, including mitt romney, senator santorum, speaker gingrich, as well as jon huntsman who has been on the ground here today. he decided to skip iowa and he's hoping to essentially pull off what john mccain pulled off in 2008 and score his victory here and continue on the road to the white house. but romney, santorum, gingrich, all expected to be here today. there will be multiple town halls. this is their final chance, this last push that they'll have to connect with the new hampshire voters and they will be crisscrossing the state, manchester, la conia. bedford, in santorum where he will be thanking his supporters who stood by him in the course of this rainfall he will be under the gun this week getting a lot of attention now that he's had that very strong finish in iowa. as for south carolina, though, as you mentioned, some of those developments today, bachman will not be heading to south carolina this morning. instead, holding a press conference. rick perry also canceled all of his events that were expected to be held in south carolina. so it's a little blank down there today, a very quiet place to be. new hampshire is where the action is at. and we may be seeing more of this race get feisty today, a little heated as gingrich attempts to try for a counter attack. he's really taken some brutal hits in the course of recent months, a lot of negative ads and today he's striking back. he's going after mitt romney in a full page ad in the new hampshire union leader. that's really the paper of note here in new hampshire. that paper did endorse gingrich. and the ad today will call mitt romney a timid massachusetts moderate as to how much that will hurt mitt romney here, yet to be determined. here is gingrich talking about that yesterday. >> whether this party wants a reagan conservative who helped change washington in the 1980s with ronald reagan, and helped change washington in the 1990s as speaker of the house, somebody who is in to changing washington, or we want a massachusetts moderate who, in fact, will be pretty good at managing the decay, but has given no evidence in his years at massachusetts of any ability to change the culture or change the political structure or change the government. >> mitt romney has consistently held a double digit commanding lead here in the state of new hampshire and voters here in the state are familiar with mitt romney. he was the governor of next-door neighbor, massachusetts. it's yet to be determined how much of an impact these recent ad also have on the romney campaign. in a state where he spent a lot of time and shake ago lot of hands -- shaking a lot of hands. we have yet to see a lot of action throughout the rest of the week. back to you. >> gretchen: molly line, live in new hampshire where all the action is moving, thane so much. >> brian: the sun is finally up. >> steve: it is. and a week from right now, we'll be talk being who won new hampshire. so it's going to be a bumpy week. in the meantime, let's look at the day ahead weather wise. as we look at the doppler and the radar combined, you can see for the most part, nothing big to report, which is how we like it. the temperatures, molly was there in manchester, it was only 10 degrees. she looked like it wasn't quite that chilly, but it was. here in new york city, we've got 13. only 4 right now in caribou. 20s and 30s across. look at atlanta right now. two dozen. and it's three dozen right now in tampa. later on today, tampa almost 50. 60s along the gulf coast, back through texas. 50s up through the central plains states. but it's going to continue to be bitterly cold through portions of new england. new york city will eventually top out at 31 degrees. if you're up already in loss l your daytime high will be one above room temperature. a high of 73 in the city of angels. >> gretchen: coming up on our show, lis swayze, the wife of patrick swayze, opens up for the first time, the story behind her 4-year marriage to patrick swayze and how she's doing today. >> steve: more on the breaking news we told you about, congresswoman michelle bachmann announcing she is not heading to south carolina. and will have a press conference later this morning. dr. larry sabato weighs in on that development and we really on live from new york city. i'm really glad we took this last minute trip! you booked our room right? not yet, thanks for reminding me. wait, what? i have the hotels.com app so we can get a great deal even at the last minute. ah, well played sir. get the app. hotels.com. i trust nature made because their products are scientifically formulated. their fish oil contains the right dose of critical omega3's. the amount recommended by several leading health organizations. nature made, the number one pharmacist recommended fish oil brand. learn more at naturemade.com >> steve: fox news election alert for you. michelle bachmann has just canceled her trip to south carolina and her campaign has called a press conference for 11:00 a.m. eastern time today. so what does he have to say now? right now we've got about that, larry sabato is a political science professor at the university of virginia and joins us this morning from char lotsville, good morning to you. >> good morning, steve. >> steve: it sure sounds like michelle bachmann, who had high hopes for iowa, is about to bow out, doesn't it? >> it does. it would be a very wise move for her. she won the ames straw poll. she ended up essentially last among those who actually campaigned in iowa. she did beat jon huntsman, i think it's worth mentioning that. but look, she needs to mend some fences in minnesota. they've got a tough redistricting process going on. she actually has to protect her own congressional district. so i think this would be the right time for her to leave, although that's her decision. >> steve: sure. we understand that last night given the fact that he came in fifth, in his hotel room with his wife, anita, rick perry sat down with her and top advisors and said, what are we going to do next, because he really was planning on doing better than where he did finish. they pretty much have gone back to texas to reassess what goes on. if you were giving him some advice what, would you say? >> actually in his case, steve, i think it's a close call. is he likely to be the nominee? no. but he's positioned himself originally as a southern candidate, which made sense. he might want to make a last stand in south carolina. that's an electorate that may be more open to his message and who knows what's going to happen in new hampshire?
