party. >> he's definitely a devil in prada. there is a lot that the people of america can relate to. huh? it's no doubt that the president is hitting the hollywood set. he really is. >> steve: that's where the money is. >> that's where the money is for the democrat and for the republican, it's the wall street or high rollers. mitt romney still getting much more per donor. i notice in may, for instance, he had 57%, over $2,500, the maximum. for mitt romney, 53%. it's in the month of march. 53% of barak obama under $200. >> steve: because last night they had that proposals where for $3, come and see sarah jessica parker. >> i think the president cass absolutely tone deaf. they went to the world trade center site, first of all, you start there. at rush hour in the afternoon in new york city so they closed the path train, the big commuter train between new york and new jersey. they seal the area when the president is there. they just lock down everything. so hundreds of thousands of commuters literally were inconvenienced. it is a dumb way to generate public appeal. >> gretchen: i thought you were going to talk about his speech in ohio as being not on message because he goes to ohio and trying to get the middle class voter and trying to relate to the average person in america and then comes to new york and has a $40,000 a plate dinner and the reason i have a problem with that a little bit is because he has been nailing mitt romney for not being relatable. >> romney made a speech in cincinnati yesterday and the red part of ohio, the most intense battle ground state probable will he in this election cycle, the president in cleveland, the other end of the state, my wife's hometown, soy know it well. i thought both speeches were uninspired. i didn't think the president had one specific initiative that i could put my arms around and say, oh, right. now he's got an economic plan. on the other hand, i thought mitt romney was all, in nana, is all obama's fault. i have think they have to hunker down. i want to go back to fundraising because it's important. the president seems to be way hysterical in terms of groping for money when you remember that the republicans outraised him in may. and the reason the president's optics are so bad a aside from the fact that everyone is unrelatable like the movie stars and george clooney and all the rest, i think he'll break all the record. so he is grasping at money and everything the president does is on his public schedule. everything he does is on the public schedule. mitt romney, on the other hand k go for several days and have one or it public events and everything else is in private. so the president has to be acutely aware of the optics involved. number one, hanging out with people people don't relate to. i think that's very serious. and secondly, that everything he does is in front of awful us and it looks like it's money grubbing. you got a nickel, a dime. >> gretchen: i think part of that is actually part of the campaign strategy, to be in front of the people in 2012 with weather a lot of americans are so into reality tv and celebrities and remember, he was accused of being celebrity in chief. so maybe there's a strategy here that hanging out with celebrities is cool and american voters like that. >> well, i don't think that american voters particularly like that. i also think that the democrats, it behooves them to stress things like sheldon addleson, the las vegas casino magnet, $10 million to mitt romney just as he gave over $10 million. i think that i, unfortunately, think when push comes it shove, what counts is the ad you put on. not how you got the money to put the ad on. that's unfortunate but both the candidates rejected public financing. remember when we all extolled the virtue of it. everybody will have a cap. john mccain took it on the chin in 2008 because he took public financing. barak obama totally outspent him and outadvertised him. >> steve: he broke a campaign promise doing that. >> brian: let's talk about the racial divide between both candidate. >> that, to me, is more stunning than the financial divide. >> brian: i know the african-american community has belonged to democrats historically and the first african-american president. but i also saw that a poll came out recently that showed he lost 10% approval within the african-american community. >> well, i think he'll still get north of 95% in the african-american community. he'll also get around two-thirds of the hispanic community. on the other hand, his approval among white voters has dropped. he's only getting 39% of white people now intending to vote for the president. so if you have all the black and brown people on the one side. all the white people on the other side, sadly, politics in america is becoming increasingly about race and ethnicity. that's a reality. >> steve: it's also about jobs. in the african-american community right now, unemployment is at 14%. that is gonna hurt. >> there is no way the african-american community is going to vote for mitt romney. he's going to get overwhelming support just as he did. it will be historic support. it might be north of 95%. on the other hand, his vote among white people could be historically low for a candidate and i think that when you consider the implications of a nation divide along racial lines, and people don't like when i talk about it, i think that it is really a devastating prospect going forward for the united states. we have to reach across. it's about class also. but class often has a facial distinction, a racial difference. i think it's really sad. so you have people grabbing for money and you got this racial divide. i don't like the way this race is shaping up. i want them to stick to the issues, but you can't have a speech in a place like cleveland and not have specifics on your plan and you can't keep saying it's all obama's fault. soy think [ male announcer ] for fruits, veggies and natural green tea energy... new v8 v-fusion plus energy. could've had a v8. >> steve: talk about a contrast in event. president obama started his day yesterday in ohio trying to appeal to middle class voters over the economy. but hours later, the president put on his campaign hat and headed to new york city in his limo where he met with celebrities who forked over big bucks. $40,000 a head for his reelection campaign. do the president's events here in the big apple contradict his campaign message. peter johnson, jr. joins us with observation. >> good morning. millions of people have lost their jobs, millions of people can't find a job. millions of people have their house under water. millions of people have given up. more people than any time in american history on food stamps and so for $3 and a dream, you can visit the president and sarah jessica parker on charles street in lower manhattan and face the terrible crowds there. it seems to be a terrible, terrible disconnect for so many americans. frankly, it's insulting in so many ways when there is so much desperation and fear in our country. i hear it all the time in the people that i meet, in the people i know, the people i get e-mails from. they say, i don't have a job. can you help me get a job? i wish i could. but to see our president showing up at the plaza hotel with annan winter, with aretha franklin, with the biggest celebrities in the universe on the day when unemployment is 8.2%, the numbers are grim, and there is no economic plan, you say to yourself, has the president totally lost touch with the american people? >> steve: you know what, peter? that's a great observation. something else, bill clinton, when he would talk, you felt -- when he said, i feel your pain, you felt like he felt the pain. >> i know bill clinton. bill clinton does understand people's pains, whether you like his politics or not, there's a service thee to him and an understanding. but to get on and off the plane on a day when there is so much desperation and so much lack of hope and then say, listen, give me $80,000 for my campaign. if you're lucky enough o have the golden ticket in the charlie and the chocolate factory contest, then you can hang out with the big shots. it's jobs. where is the jobs? >> oh, definitely, yeah. it was very hard, but just him being able to skype was amazing and helped out a lot. >> gretchen: so tim, what does it feel like to see your daughter now in person? i mean, over skype it's one thing, but in person it's totally different, right? >> yeah. she liked me from the nurse first day, i think. i think she knows i'm her dad. we play all the time and throw her up in the air and crawl around the living room together. it's great to be home with her. >> gretchen: earlier on the show, one of our host, brian kilmeade, had to change diapers against new york giants quarterback eli manning. he lost out. how are you doing on the diaper changing, tim? >> i usually change the fresh morning diaper every day. i wake up a little bit before mom. i'm used to getting up early. so i take care of her for the first hour or two in the morning. i changed my fair share since i've been home already. >> gretchen: what is father's day going to be like fourth year? >> we hadn't really planned anything out. hopefully just a relaxing day, get to enjoy my family. she's pretty good at planning surprises. >> gretchen: what is the future now for you as a couple? are you going to be remaining home? do you have to be deployed again? >> since i'm a national guard unit, we're going to be back in the states for the foreseeable future. i'm planning on getting back to school at ken state university, hopefully finishing up my degree. >> gretchen: to wrap this up, the two of you would have never met had it not been for social media. how did that happen, amanda? >> exactly. we went to high school together and we never even knew. we knew of each other, but we had never met. and i was living in california and i saw him on facebook and i knew him from my graduating class. so i thought i'd add him and then the next day, we started talking and then the rest is history. >> gretchen: wow. now you have a beautiful daughter together. you're married. you're going to experience your first father's day with your beautiful family. thank you so much for sharing your story with us. thank you for your service and have a great father's day. >> thank you. >> gretchen: we need more stories like that. good news stories. tired ofhe blame bush strategy? >> well, i don't think that necessarily gets barak obama off the hook. i think you can on the one hand say that if you look at the economic problems that we still have and the financial crisis in 2009, it was primarily the fault of the bush administration and still feel that in 3 1/2 years barak obama should have done more and still, in addition to that, have questions as to whether or not you want him to serve four more years. i can understand because you know that whenever a president or any candidate says something that's been poll tested and focused group that i can understand why they would continue to blame bush 'cause as we see a lot of americans still do, but i don't think that's enough to get him reelected. >> brian: i want you to hear what nancy pelosi said this morning because she doesn't agree with you. let's listen to the former speaker. >> president obama i think has been very good about trying to be bipartisan and not assigning blame, unless you want to bring up the same proposal and say, let's do what we did that got us in the fix in the first place. >> that was very bipartisan. the essence of bipartisan. but here is the question i have in 2010, that was the basic argument that barak obama made. they drove us into the ditch. now they want the keys. we're not going to give them the keys 'cause they don't know how it drivement and the result of that in the 2010 mid terms is the democrats took what the president called a shellagricultureing. why do they think it will work any better in 2012 than 2010 when people say we lie elected o you fix it. >> steve: who will be on your show this weekend provided you're not in jail? >> let me just say everybody will be in studio. there will be no cell phones involved in sunday's show. i got to say this, from the moment that it happened, i thought, 8:30 tomorrow morning, meaning today, like right now, is really going to be a pain in the neck. >> gretchen: we didn't start it. it was all overt blog. >> brian: a little later, jeanine pirro. >> anyway, we'll be talking to the president senior advisor, david plouffe, who was his campaign manager. we'll talk about all of this and also talk about the continuing furor, and i think it's growing -- about the leak investigation. all those national security secrets that have been laid out. we're going to talk to david plouffe about that and talk to the former head of the c.i.a., michael hayden, as well as the head of the senate homeland security. i'm going to try to stay out of trouble between now and then. >> brian: that's all we can ask. we'll be watching. thanks so much. >> bye. >> steve: we got some headlines on this friday morning and we start with an extreme weather alert. new evacuation orders in place in colorado this morning. oh, boy. as a wildfire there, it's a super fire they're referring to it as, has spread to more than 50,000 acres. late last night, it jumped a river, more than 1300 firefighters are trying to put out the flames. some now battling a spot fire that was sparked by a thunderstorm. since the fire started saturday, one person died and at least 50 homes have been destroyed. so far the experts say it is only between 15 and 20% contained. >> gretchen: check out this rescue in texas. it's all caught on camera. a woman's car engulfed in flames. watch that. that's a good samaritan there. jumps on top, smashes out the window with a fire extinguisher and amazingly pulls nancy decker to safety. but the big mystery, who was her hero? since he ended up leaving the scene quickly. >> he's my guardian angel. he really is. i have a hero and god put him there. >> gretchen: it turns out the good samaritan is staff sergeant mitchell corbin, a member of the texas international guard. that's why he knew what to do. he says his actions came naturally from awful his training. >> figured out that there was a big problem going on and took the steps to fix it. >> gretchen: decker says she hopes to be able to meet him very soon and say thank you. >> brian: man calling 911 after a deli worker messed up his sandwich. listen. >> i specifically asked for little turkey and little ham and a lot of cheese and a lot of mayonnaise and they are giving me hard time. i was wondering if you could stop by -- >> you're calling 911 because you don't like the way they're making your sandwich? that's the question in a small texas town at this hour where a dad isn't facing any charges for killing a man. he says the guy who was attacking his four-year-old daughter, he saw it. he had to stop him, so to defend her -- so the self-defense transfer to a third person? judge, here he is, his daughter is getting assaulted, sexually assaulted. he springs to action. he kills the guy. >> he kills the guy. what's interesting is that you've got two issues here. you've got the legal justification and the moral justification. awful us who are parents would immediately say someone is in the act of molesting my four-year-old daughter, i'm going to kill them. legally under texas law, the question is, was it justified? was it excessive use of force? here is what texas law says. it's very clear that if you use deadly physical force to immediately intervene to protect someone and if you use that force to immediately stop a sexual assault, it is justified. what's interesting about this case is circumstantially, there is mo indication that there was any bad blood between the father and this man. >> brian: they just were acquaintances. >> he was working on the ranch. the little brother comes in and says grandpa, the that man took my sister, the four-year-old. the grandpa comes and says to the father, he took the little girl, the father sees him partially naked in the barn lowesting the child. so the father beats him about the head with his fist. the man dies. what's so interesting about this is the fact, brian, that the police say -- and they literally quote the statute in texas of self-defense -- that this father did what he had to to defend his daughter and protect her and in the course of doing that, killed the individual. question now, will this go to the grand jury seeing as the police are not going to make an arrest. >> brian: and the word is no. >> it will if the d.a. wants it t. the police can decide to not make an arrest. i as the d.a. can say i want the grand jury to lock at it. but i can tell you, this case will not go to the grand jury. i think it's a message. you don't mess with our kids and this is -- everything about this case -- they took the girl to the hospital. this is all real factual as bad as it gets. >> brian: i agree with you. judge jeanine, we'll watch you over the weekend. >> 9:00 o'clock. >> brian: there you are. always great show. >> okay. >> brian: def leppard is here. you want proof?
