Dagen survived to fight another day. It could have all collapsed the way it was being set up. He was extremely effective and Hillary Clinton taking the high road i think almost destabilized her own ability to really take the offense. Dagen she didnt need to be on offense. We will debate that. With prior republican nominees for president , i disagreed with them on politics, policies, principles, but i never questioned their fitness to serve. Donald trump is different. Im not proud of it. I apologized to my family, i apologized to the American People, certainly im not proud of it, but this is locker room talk. I think its clear to anyone who heard it that it represents exactly who he is because we have seen it throughout the campaign. We have seen insult women. Governor pence has been pretty much silent and waited until after the debate to weigh in standing by his running mate at least pence tweeted the following quoting here, congrats to big debate win. So pence standing by his running mate, by the way, maria, a few hours from now later this morning, republicans on the hill will host a Conference Call to talk about exactly what to do with trump going forward, maria. I actually think that he doubled down on nonapology, i think this whole jailing thing is something that will the problem with that is it kind of reinforces the unfitness argument because its like what would he do if he has hands on all executive authority but to the people who think he won, i say, i think he did well enough that these down ballot people will not abandoned him and that would be something that hurts him. The longer that embraces the more trouble in people in down ballots. Maria you think he won . Its who did the job they were supposed to do. Donald trump came into this debate as i was alluding to earlier with a lot of wait on it. It could have collapsed on him last night did he not perform the way he did. He gained a little bit because of what he was able to do. I do think he apologized more last night than he did even in the initial tape. He said he was embarrassed by own comments and able to contain the damage around that audio to the people who were ready were not going to vote for him anyway because they viewed him in this manner and what he did further was show the base, youre trying to get base fired up on both sides, hey, im in this, im fighting for this rand dont give up on me because clearly the leadership and some other candidates in the republican establishment are begin to go secondguess their support. So i think if youre analyzing from pure effectiveness, donald trump won hands down. Maria do you agree that he was able to contain this audio tape . Dagen the days ahead will dictate that because its going to continue to be played and played. I will speak to this because i was down south all weekend. People who like donald trump like him because hes tough and they already know that hes a crude bore who talks horribly about women. They know that. They like him because hes willing to rip everything up. Hes going to rip it up. You have somebody standing on stage with career politician and someone who is not. To his base, he was the tough guy that his supporters loved last night. Beyond that, all Hillary Clinton had to do is stand up there and sit back. Thats why i think what i was saying at the start of the show, she had to appear calm, shes like you know what, being the victim has worked for me. You want to talk about all the bills problems, thats fine, after the Monica Lowinsky her favorability was 11 percentage higher than bill. That was pure strategy oneonone. I think that has been something that has hurt Small Businesses as well as large business, so when you look at obamacare as well as you look on the regulations on the top line for the banks, we are going to see banks report this week. I was glad that National Security made appearance but really very little and really was the subject, i thought where the moderators went off the rails, most particularly martha by arguing with trump about what we should say about our military plans, but, you know, the debate itself now pails in significance before this incident this morning where the rebels have fired two missiles in American Navy warship, this is the real world, this is whats going on while we debate a lot of fufra. I think its something actually the American People are out ahead of their political leaders in washington. They actually think the president s main job is to keep the country safe and i am hoping that the third debate will finally pick up the slack here and we can get a real debate between two candidates. Maria the story this morning in terms of the u. S. Navy destroyer and two missiles fired at it, did it bother you that as it related to a syria, assad, and isis that it seemed like donald trump didnt agree with his running mate . Not, not in the slightest. You know, its only in the pretend world of politics that everybody is in total agreement in one side versus everybody in total agreement on the other side. Ive sat in the situation room and listened to president s disagree with Vice President s and their secretaries of state and their secretaries of defense. Thats what a Good Administration does is provide the president with alternatives. If anybody thinks this is going to be an issue, really, they should think again. Dagen embassador, trump was talking about Bashar Alassad and syria saying hes been busy fighting isis which we know hes committing genocide against his own people in aleppo, when donald trump talks about Foreign Policy, do you do you think he needs to be he still needs to bone up a little bit . Well, honestly, i disagree with both trump and pence on syria. The issue in the middle east is not the assad regime, the issue isnt even really isis. The issue is iran and its path to Nuclear Weapons and effort through assad regime, through hezbollah, through hamas. The missiles were fired against u. S. Destroyer. If they can close or raise insurance rates going through there to the red sea to sues capable, think about the Economic Impact that would have. This is the real world that we are talking about. How do we progress toward and what do we do . Seems like theres no turning back because we have other countries enabling their companies to go over there and do business with iran, its start to go develop, we have given 150 billion, we made the ransom payment of 1. 7, what policy stances can we take . I think if if trump is elected president in his inaugural address she should aggregate the iran deal. It was a strategic debacle when agreed to. If they knew exactly if they could entice deals they would never face pressure again. Iran is on the road to Nuclear Weapons and we have to act that way. It is a threat to israel, its a threat to arab friends in the region and ultimately given that iran is still the central bank of international terrorism, if they decided to give Nuclear Weapons to terrorists, they wouldnt need Ballistic Missiles to deliver. This is deadly serious for us and the obama administraon has punted away security in ways that are still hard to calculate. Maria thats incredible. And we know that Hillary Clinton hasnt gone there. Her policy is obamas policy, her efforts to distinguish herself are really trivial and at the margin and so i think if you like only im youll like hillary. He really missed an opportunity, so many people throughout the weekend, inside the campaign knew that he had to make a concerted and humbled apology because who is he going after . Hes not going after the base, hes going after suburban, college, educated women. He dismissed it and moved on quickly and he lost a great opportunity there. Maria yes, nobody is surprised that donald trump made lewd comments about women in private. We know donald trump for the last year, no one surprised about that, but did he actually apologize well enough, kristin said no. I dont think so either. It was a successful pivot, though, i will give him credit for that. Bill clinton within 15 seconds and he was at isis 30 seconds after that. I dont particularly think the bill clinton attacks are going to be effective. People have baked in what they think about bill clinton and what hillarys role may or may not have been in dealing with this. Major missed opportunity. Now hes done down 30 points with white educated women, i only see that going up from here. But the real issue is the tape. I agree with you. As a conservative who we wanted to hear about action plan, rather than just complain and attack, i think he missed the opportunity. As white women voter you have to go after independents.
