Classified information to the russians while they visited the white house. We need to tell you the story is extremely fluid but before noon security adviser h. R. Mcmaster sent out to say that the president did not reveal anything that wasnt already out there. But then in the last 45 minutes, the New York Times reports that americas strongest ally in the middle east may have been compromised by what was said. Lieutenant colonel ralph peters sent years as Intelligence Officer focusing on russia. He will decode what he feels is really going on. How big a mistake or not at all the president may have made and the israel connection that is bubbling up right now. We know much more at this hour than yesterday about the damage and origination of that massive ransom ware attack, symantec is one of the biggest security firms in the nation. Ceo will tell us the secret to keeping personal and Business Information protected and who he thinks is behind. This the dow take aim at 21,000. S p and the nasdaq are looking for new records, any move to the upside gets them there. Were less than an hour to the closing bell. Lets start the countdown. Breaking news, the Top Senate Democrat demanding not only to know but to release the exact transcripts of President Trumps meeting last week with top russian officials. Chuck schumer in the last couple of minutes got before the cameras. Were going to tell you exactly how he phrased it. The dow struggling to stay in positive territory, down about 11 points, the s p 500 also hit a record earlier. Boom, now pulling down three point. The nasdaq is the only big index pushing higher, poised to close at another record high at 6161. The retail industry, the woes continue on the heels of earnings reports that came out already today. Dicks Sporting Goods falling 14. 33 after releasing disappointing Quarterly Sales numbers. Job cuts are on the way. When you pair that together, investors say im selling. Tjx, the parent of t. J. I am keeping my eye on the dow, were about 29 points away from 21,000 which we already hit earlier. Breaking news, Senate Democrats are calling for the release as i mentioned of the full transcript of President Trumps meeting with russias top diplomats. Chuck schumer saying if the president felt comfortable sharing the information with the russians he should be comfortable sharing it with congress. This as the New York Times reported within the last 50 minutes that israel was the source of the intelligence that President Trump reportedly gave to russian officials. So let me get to blake burman. Standing by at white house. The president vaguely touched upon it, h. R. Mcmaster of the nsa went into it but said nothing bad had happened, but give us the narrative at this hour. I told our viewers its very fluid at the moment. Reporter it is, this is a rare day, we had offcamera press briefing with press secretary sean spicer, wrapped up a few minutes ago. Give you the headlines, not confirming whether or not the conversations that President Trump had with top Russian Diplomats in the Oval Office Last week contained classified information and he would also not say, liz, whether or not it was israel, being reported by the New York Times, whether or not it was israel who the source of this highly sensitive, classified information that is in question. However, the Israeli Government is certainly backing the Trump Administration at this hour because its ambassador to the u. S. , ron dermer, put out a statement it says. Reporter earlier today, it was the National Security adviser, general h. R. Mcmaster on camera in the Briefing Room taking questions from us. He described that conversation between the president , sergey lavrov, Sergey Kislyak as wholly appropriate. We dont discuss what is and isnt classified. What i will tell you is in the context of that discussion, what the president discussed with the foreign minister was wholly appropriate to that conversation. The president wasnt even aware of where this information came from. He wasnt briefed on the source or method of the information either. Reporter liz, skid sean spicer about the last part from mcmaster about the president wasnt aware where the information came from. He explained to me when the president gets his daily briefings that the president is advised of the threats, vie advised of the information but not necessarily advised of the source and the methods, and i pointblank asked sean spicer, i said did the people underneath the president brief him to the fullest extent which he should have been briefed . Was he prepared . I asked spicer, and spicer told me quote, of course. Liz . Liz blake, thank you, i stress blake will jump in if he hears anything else on it. Its a quick changing story. Lets bring in Lieutenant Colonel ralph peters specializing in the soviet union. You speak fluent russian. I need you to speak english, if you could to translate and maybe decipher, decode, what certain sentences mean and others dont. Last night, National Security adviser h. R. Mcmaster, i know you heard this, said, quote, the story that came out tonight as reported is false. He came out today and said what was shared, meaning with the russians, was wholly appropriate given the purpose of that conversation and the purpose of what the president was trying to achieve through that meeting with the russians. Colonel peters, you can translate the difference, if there is one with, that . As painful as a former officer to watch h. R. Mcmaster go through these gyrations. The code words what he said last night were as reported. In other words, some parts of the article were right, some parts may not have been right, and then you get the same kind of word games today. Trish, what id like do is clear up misconceptions because all day, and ive been hearing people pontificate about intelligence and they know nothing about it. First of all, the president of the United States does have the Legal Authority to declassified americanoriginated classified information. Not stuff shared with allies without permission, but i know of no single instance, none, where contemporary code word, code word are top secret, i know of no instance where a president declassified that. Its not done spur of a moment in a chat in the oval office. Done with a deliberate office where the intelligence agencies get a chance to argue why it shouldnt be declassified . Theres so much smoke here that its hard to see the core issue, and to meet core issue is very straightforward. First of all, the core issue is not leaks. Thats a diversion. Without misdeeds, theres nothing to leak. Core issue is President Trumps bizarre and dubious affection for the russians, in this case, conviction, utterly ungrounded that they are and will be our allies in the war against isis. Trish, i know the liz liz. Were one after another. Im sorry. I know the russians, you can feed all the steak you want to a rabid dog, its still going to bite you. Far from upon hadding against isis. Were fighting the isis, what did trump get out of this . Thats what i want to know. Liz listen to what h. R. Mcmaster said earlier about two hours ago about who might have been compromised. Heres the sound bite. The president in no way compromise any sources or methods in the course of this conversation . Liz how can he be so sure of that . He said shortly after the story was broken, and we all know the russians, the russians will take information, theyll triangulate it, figure it out, take back channels and trace it. Weve known in the past they then killed spies they thought were at the center of revealing something. I dont know, the israelis say theyre fine with this. Do you think thats just a line . What are the israelis going to say . They dont want a spat with the United States. Im sure theyre furious. And liz, you are exactly right, the russians can take the information, and apparently reportedly, the president told them which city now we know israeli spy was in, well, that guy may not be long for this world. This guy seems to be single best source of intelligence and isis, and i dont think the president was trying to hurt our country, but hes often infant ill. He was like a child showing off his new bicycle. Hey, i know secrets about isis and weve got a source. Its not the way you do things. The president cant do this stuff spontaneously, it has to be coordinated, and by the way, you hard that while the president didnt reveal sources and methods and said he wasnt briefed on them, no, he wasnt, but he was briefed on the classification. He would have been told, mr. President , what follows is code word buzz wacko wacko. Liz theyre going to kill me, were short on time. Press are getting hysterical over the story. Im not hysterical, im trying to figure out. We can see the markets are indecisive and some of it has to do with this. If there there was a one off,o, the president goofed. The question is the bizarre pattern of behavior with the russians and president putin. Liz you remember, this it moved fords stock around a lot. President trump publicly pressuring and then congratulating fords ceo mark fields for not moving a plant to mexico. How will the white house react to the automakers latest news. Jeff flock live at a chicago ford plant to tell us whether the global layoffs could be a sign to come for the entire Auto Industry and not just ford. Got a speeding train with a headline that says almost nothing can stop this bull market. So for those of who you watch these markets for many, many years, back when they were traded in 16th, remember that . No, he doesnt. Theres an old expression, when the bull market becomes the cover story, thats a signal were about to hit the top and look out below. We take it to the floor show. Traders at the New York Stock Exchange and the cme group. John corpina, i know youve been down there long enough to remember that saying. I have, and many others. When you see that on yahoo with the speeding train, what goes through your mind. You can see me talk about the market and how it continues to evaporate higher, we discuss whats going to be the next catalyst thats going to stop the market from moving and looking for and anticipating which is healthy for our markets. A lot going on next week. Normal economic calendar, it is the week before memorial day weekend but a lot going on, trump budget early in the week. Fomc minutes coming out. G7 meeting in italy. All of this is abundance of information for investors on digeston. I dont think were going to come out completely bullish on the market. This might be the beginning of a summer selloff. Liz maybe, but larry, i was talking to a Business Executive who said hes got money burning a hole in his pocket but waiting for entry point, a selloff, and seems like every time, during the intraday pictures weve been showing you. The minute it hits the low, it bounces right back up . Exactly. Too many people continually look at equity multiples and the valuations of stocks and say wow, these are very expensive. On absolute basis, theyre right, equities are expensive. On a relative level, they are a value when you compare it against bonds, corporate credit. Diversified portfolio in this environment does make sense. Liz what about the fact, phil, that the economy is continuing to build upon, build upon layer upon layer. We got factory output for april. Rose at the fastest clip in three years. We have animal spirits, u could give President Trump credit for that in my opinion because the market started to rise, and you saw lots of business expenditures. People feel better about things, and now you see Home Appliance shipments up 14. 7 yearoveryear . Whos to say we dont see durable goods orders follow that . Right. I would agree with you. And you know what . Its interesting enough, when the market started the rally, there were a lot of skeptics. People didnt see the fundamentals. A perfect example of the market leading the fundamentals. Liz right. A lot of times when the stocks started to move up, people are scratching their head, now were going to see it in the number. The same thing goes oil. A lot of times people are saying oil demands really bad, lousy. Gasoline demand is bad. But oil prices are starting to go back up. Now were seeing the demand numbers go back up as well. I hope we gain the momentum. I would say, john, i noticed this, that the atlanta fed, which tends to put out gdp estimates ahead of the time that we get them. Last week they had gdp for the Current Quarter at about 3. 6 , they revised to 4. 1 . Theyre seeing something. Absolutely, and any time we see the revisions awakens investors and changes the sentiment moving forward. I think Something Else important to look at, lori rothman was looking at this before, the vix trading at 10 1 2, spurring the market. Lets see that at 11, 12, 13, well get activity back. Liz larry, what are you buying now . Commodities, including oil, energy stocks. Its been derated, nice bounceback, 5 since may 5th. Valuations of the United States are attractive. Ive been long in europe for a year, its a consensus trade now, im tailing back from that, a long banking stock in europe. Liz i dont know, phil, back to the oil issue because larry is buying some of those names, i do look at supply that we have at cushing, oklahoma, the demand isnt amazing. It isnt, the International Agency said if opec doesnt extend production cuts, were going to see Oil Inventories fall dramatically, especially into next year. Theyre saying we have a lot of work to do get global supplies to the five year average, were going to see things over the next couple of weeks. Good to see all of you, thank you very much. Have a great day. Liz keep gasoline below 2. 50 for regular. Good to see you, john, larry, phil. Dow making another run for the flatline, that could make it 80 times that its crossed the flat line up or down. Watching it right now. Etsy is up more than 15 now 22 right now, up more than 15 since it hit a march low of 9. 80. Right now at 13. 83. Next, jeff flock live at a ford plant in chicago where a lot of nervous people are waiting to hear just who will lose their jobs. Liz just a few months afford canceled plans for a new Assembly Line in mexico after criticism from President Trump, the auto giant is slashing 200,000 strong Global Workforce by 10 . Wall street journal says it could be announced as soon as this week. Look at ford stock intraday. Now it is almost flat. It is down one cent at the moment to 10. 93. As automakers suffer fourth consecutive month of declining sales in april, we turn to jeff flock, who went to a Ford Assembly plant to get details on this. Reporter yeah, liz, the president did save some jobs. He brought jobs back to michigan that were going to be in mexico. That is a good thing. That is a few hundred, a thousand jobs. Were talking about a loss in the u. S. About 10,000 jobs. Take a look what the company has said. They havent confirmed this, but you can read between the lines on this reducing costs, becoming as lean as efficient as possible are valuable driving profitable growth. Translation, yeah, they are getting rid of folks. This is mainly salaried workers, not folks on the production line. Maybe that is a good thing. Look at detroit three, Fiat Chrysler up bigley, or big league, i dont know which it is, but ford down badly over the course of the past year. Same true ford versus gm. Gm up double digits. Ford down double digits. Mark field has invested a lot in new vehicle technology, driverless cars. Investors are concerned that those investments wont necessarily bear fruit n fairness to ford this, is not just a ford issue. If you look at the inventory right now of all three, big three detroit automakers they have a lot more cars than they need right now in terms of inventory. Gm with almost 100 days of supply. Ford with 83 days. Fiat chrysler with 81. When it comes to lay people off, that is what you want the company to do, make too many cars that sell at a loss, show up in washington, gee, can we get a bailout . Liz we remember that. We remember the bailouts. But i have always argued, i know youre on my side on this. David if youre going to bail somebody out, bail out automakers who actually have employees who make something versus the banks who move chess pieces on a board when it comes to, you know, the stock market and investing. Im glad that auto workers were saved. Reporter ford employs 100,000 by itself, much less all the suppliers and the rest. Im totally with you as well. Liz they didnt take bailout money. They got a loan from the Energy Department but they did not take the bailout money. Reporter paid most of it back. Everybody else did. Ford didnt get a loan, youre right. Liz thats true. Businesses and hospitals are reeling at this hour with the closing bell ringing 29 minutes from now. The dow down two points. Just 24 hours ago, authorities have no words on who was behind this weekends Global Ransomware attack but what a difference 24 hours makes. Intelligence fishes now say they pretty much know who did it. Up next, symantec ceo growing clark lives and breathe this is stuff. With the microsoft cloud, we can analyze the data faster than ever before. If we can detect new viruses before they spread, we may someday prevent outbreaks before they begin. Liz breaking news on that massive cyber hack attack that swept the globe. Homeland security has just put out an update and it appears for now that the u. S. May have been spared. Theyre saying that fewer than 10 u. S. Organizations reported to the department of Homeland Security that they were victims of this ransomware attack. This as the wannacry attacks, that is what its called, has crippled computers in at least 150 countries but it is getting a whole lot more frightening when it comes to the cost. Silicon valley firm cyber risk science estimates the district cost of computer down time and lost productivity from the cyberattack to be around 8 billion globally. Making the wannacry attack the most damaging incident involving socalled ransomware ever. Intelligence officials suggest new digital clues, we didnt know this yesterday at this in time, point to north korean hackers as likely suspects. I want to bring in symantec ceo, greg clark. Over at symantec, you live, eat and breathe every single day. What do you make of the report that it is North Koreans or at least North Koreans that are there . You know they didnt do this on their own. It has to be government propelled. Yeah. This is an interesting case. I think usually the Lazarus Group that was associated with things linked back to north korea in the past have typically gone after huge sums of money on the, kind of Cyber Attacks that theyre going with here. In this case the ransom dollars are very low which is something that would raise an eyebrow as to this attribution. We absolutely do have linkage from the code itself to tools used by Lazarus Group in the past but i think there are a few other attributes in this case are interesting and the authorities are definitely working hard. You know, i think the size of the ransom doesnt fit the that adversary which is an eyeopener for us. There is a case it might have been some other folks that used some code from them, but there are organizations that are working hard on this, and i think the authorities have got a good angle on it and we handled over the things we found and led to research on this, you know, that is one thing that is an eyeopener still, 300 of bitcoin per incident doesnt fit the adversary as well. Liz can i push you on that . Yeah. Liz the ads versari would normally ask for more . Yeah, when you think about the one that went down in bangladesh linked to Lazarus Group, that was 80 million. Made a few typos or it would have been a lot more money. Usually we see ransomware inside of corporations having higher Sticker Price than 300. That is is the one thing that would indicate these guys may have known each other. They may have shared some code but there may be more to it. I think go ahead. Liz i want to jump in because the North Koreans, they are sort of allied with maybe the russians, maybe the chinese, but both those countries had victims of this ransomware attack. When you think how they attacked sony back in the day a couple years ago over the movie the interview of the starring jonah hill. We remember what it did to a single business. As a Business Network this is extraordinarily damaging. This particular malware when that vulnerability was unleashed on internet, where it was going to go and what effect is sort of outside of the adversaries control and propagation of that worm. We think there is a case that somebody built it, put it out there, never expected it to go as well as it did and probably surprised and very concerned as so there is, were definitely, i think there is a few mistakes have been made. There is a few more things were following up own. I think that, you know the government authorities and Law Enforcement are definitely all over it. Liz right. But it is an interesting case. It is, it is a worm. Worms have exponential propagation, you know he, situations which this did. Liz right. It went everywhere. There is a case said maybe it was targeted at consumers and had different outcome. Liz im just being sold, it was not jonah hill t was seth rogen. We didnt see either of them in that clip. Yeah. Liz very quickly here, disney is being hit by Something Else. But they are being hit by somebody who claims to have pirated the new pirates of the caribbean movie. Theyre holding it ransom. Yes. Liz disney says were not paying. Bob iger says, were not paying. What is your advice to any business that receives a message, well release your machines and open them up and give you back your data if you pay the ransom . Our advice to people is not to do that. There have been plenty of cases where the people paid ransom, files are not recoverable, things cant continue. Our advice, dont do it, work on other recovery mechanisms. Big wakeup call for us, liz. This is big wakeup call. You have to patch vulnerabilities. You need cyberdefense technologies. Happy to report that the few people did patch the systems and had latest versions of technology were not affected, even in europe, china, apac. Liz good move. Greg, good to have you guys on the business side. Thank you for having us on the show, appreciate it. Liz greg clark, symantec ceo. Closing bell 19 minutes away. Were now up, Dow Jones Industrials crossed the flat line been up 2 points. 83 times, oh, 101 . 101 or 103 . Changing literally as we speak. More than 100. Lets go with that. Wall street all atwitter as one of twitters former key players announces his quote, triumphant return to social media and to his company he helped found but will this move be enough to keep twitter flying straight at years of turmoil . Speaking of famous, getting a jump on all action in vegas is fbns, charlie gasparino. Charlie, are you going to the pool . Can i come . I will go to the pool. I love robin leach. I cant wait for that. Liz me too. When are you getting into town, trish . [laughter] liz i know, ralph peters, the colonel, this happens to all of us by the way. People call her liz and melissa gets called. Once okay, a second time i thought viewers would say, why arent you correcting him . I get called vito all the time for some reason. Liz stop. What is the mood at salt . Lets get to that. To be honest with you, the agenda looks impressive. I was at the milken conference earlier, two weeks ago. Liz yeah. They had five or six Trump Administration officials there. Treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin was there. There is not one, at least, unless donald trump does a surprise visit to this, there is not one single Trump Administration official here. Liz mnuchin came here. Anthony scaramucci obvious connections to both this conference. Remember he is spinning this off as he moves on to the next phase of his life. His connections with trump, it is still not one Trump Administration official is here. So, that is kind of odd. The mood is dour. It is not just because of that. Listen, hedge funds are not doing well. There is a lack of profitability, a lack of performance. That is reflected both in turnout, from what i understand turnout is down. I think some of the guest list. So it will be interesting. Liz do they know were coming, you and me . Yes. But heres the thing liz maria is coming too by the way. Were covering all base. There you go. What is good about the conference well get good insight into the markets. Tell you if youre the small investor you want to hear what we have to say coming out of here. Despite the fact you dont have political players, you have a lot of smart market people here. Theyre all here. And you know, listen this is a treacherous time in the markets. We have tax reform thats up in the air. We have Health Care Reform thats up in the air. The markets are very contingent on these things. Well give you some insight. Liz guess what, charlie . I will talk to sam zell and mark mobius where they are looking like now. Not in the u. S. You know. Right. We should point out that right now, say what you want about the trump rally, right now the a lot of action is in overseas markets. Liz yeah. Mark mobius will be telling you that. Mexico is doing very well right now, stocks from mexico. Telling you that sort of global perspective is something that investors will definitely need. Well get some of that here. Another perspective what is going on at twitter. Did you see what happened today . Liz yeah. Cofounder of the firm came back, this guy biz stone. Is that his real name. Biz. Biz stone is back. Yes, the stock is up 2 on biz stone being back. Here is the rub, liz, nobody really knows what this guy is actually going to do. And here what is the other thing is. When i talk to Investment Bankers doing today on this news, they say this doesnt change the metrics on the sale. One of the things we were talking about, you and i were extremely skeptical of cnbcs reporting that thing would be imminently sold. We gave investors the right sort, right direction on that. Liz absolutely. Is this guy going to change this company so much it finally can be sold . People are still very skeptical of that. They dont know what he is doing. Maybe his one thing is to sell it, who knows. He is not saying much. He gave very amorphous statements about what his job would be doing. Liz he is not replacing anybody. Twitter is still a work in progress. Remember when facebook brought in cheryl samburg, she had a plan, directive, met with a lot of people on wall street and basically got the company in a growth mode and she had a plan i it is unclear if biz stone has a plan to take it to the level by cheryl samburg. Liz cheryl samburg is winner. A lot of people are talking about twitter ant it is future. Liz save me chaise lounge. I have a pena colada by the pool. Liz charlie, see you later. Closing bell eight minutes away. Billionaires going on a spring shopping spree and moving markets. Theyre not giving exact number. Look at recent earnings from some Retail Stores with significant presence in the traditional mall. Disappointing earnings. Dicks down. Staples, tj maxx.
