For a chunk of elected the records for him its the most important work in musical history. Its part of the exhibition hyper a journey into art in music some sixty artists have turned their favorite songs into installations giving the music scene a face and blending sound with the senses. This is not an academic exhibition its not a difficult or conceptual exhibition even though there are many conceptual pieces here of the things here are also very colorful very loud people so you cannot turn up a picture like you can turn up the music were trying to turn up the os here. You can start at some place. There are headphones throughout and visitors can dive into worlds of sound the unconventional seating arrangements create new perspectives. Curator max docs is not an art historian but in music journalist his approach to the exhibition has been unique from the start. That i created this makes a big. In cooperation with the i held interviews and talks with each artist and then everything was very easy they are really able to explain the most complex relationships in just a few sentences and these explanations are part of the exhibition even people who do not know anything about who just like music for example a completely new way into out with the sick submission. Its a journey through genres ranging from indie rock. To east hits. To scandalous pop stars. Or to classics such as album. If you visit an exhibition and leave it and suddenly see a huge music and with new eyes and i think thats something you can only dream about when creating a show but i think because of the collaboration here this one does just that. The exhibition in hamburg is the first and only one of its kind worldwide and to the love affair between art and music. The largest canyon on the north American Continent the iconic grand canyon in northwestern arizona. Gorge carved out over millions of years by the colorado river. Theodore roosevelt called it the one great site which every american should see and it was one hundred years ago in one thousand nine hundred nineteen that president Woodrow Wilson declared it a National Park a concerted move to preserve a natural wonder of the world that today attracts some six million visitors every year. I can just imagine myself standing on that rim staring into the sunset its got rocks from my colleague from d. W. Culture is here and thanks for joining us scott of such an awesome place really unesco World Heritage site on top of it all tell us something about the significance of the grand canyon in terms of how americans it makes american see themselves yeah i think its interesting because the green can obviously huge the amazing Natural Beauty but its also is a symbol of america and i think its interesting because when the National Park service what it was declared a National Park under a hundred years ago i think it did mark a shift in americans perception of themselves in regards to nature because before that i think the main image americans have was themselves assemblers of as pioneers who were there to exploit nature because the conquerors do you know to force where they are to be cleared land was they are to be plowed to be productive and i think with the designation of the National Heritage sites with the National Park service being founded and especially with the grand canyon being made a National Park it started to change americans also saw themselves in their country as as as caretakers of nature it was a sort of start of an Environmental Movement but it really changed a bit the perception of how they viewed nature and its all its terrapins within it protects their Natural Heritage and so interesting this whole concept of nature because it has a really different value in the north american psyche compared to for instance how european would see that yeah i think so i mean we both grew up in canada. Lived here. For a long time in europe and ive always had that sense here in europe that because so much of nature is cultivated and domesticated i guess that its almost as if society is above nature its sort of like a Garden Concept theyve got everything set in sort of nature is a place you go for walks and so on and in the north american context nature is more law and is seen as something more powerful than society and dangerous in the grand canyon is an example that i think is you can see how the grand canyon depicted in films i mean its seen off as a threat or a danger like in one hundred twenty seven hours that james franco grew up in and real life of a man who was trapped in the canyon nearly died. So its a difficult film to watch yeah but but then theres flipside of that and the grand canyon is also seen as the ultimate a state of civilization the best im able to me about is this closing scene of film in the least where they dive into the canyon symbolizing their state from male dominated society the tyranny. Lets watch them go over the edge here that i always get goosebumps when i see this unbelievable neither of us have been there scott unfortunately its still its still coming at us but do you have an interesting personal connection to the canyon can you tell us about yeah my wife one of her ancestors john carl hillers was the first man to photograph the grand canyon he was an immigrant german immigrant to the United States he was on the powell expedition and he took these photos the very first photos that ever taken of the grand canyon really really amazing i think he also helped create the whole image of the grand canyon through these amazing stunning james. Thats an unbelievable detail there definitely one for the bucket list obviously we need to do that hike down through the earths crust and twenty nine thousand as the centennial year for the grand canyon scott thanks so much for bringing. Those stories. Will finish off with a dose of social commentary from four dollars a good endo whose art is in a word garbage the portuguese street artist creates animals that are colorful realistic and disarming in how vulnerable they seem they are of course and dangerous species but the harsh subtext is in the materials because you use the simple trash that he collects much of which is plastic to drive home the message of environmental destruction. Sculpture mean streets. After about dano from portugal aliens but dollars are going to create sculptures of animals from trench. Fascinating up cycled art that underlines a serious environmental issue. With the enemy as we can easily reach the expressions that are more easy the near to do human expression sold trush is what is killing the nature destroying the planet so its about using these materials to continue nation the church and the worst itself to great images of the victims. O. Dollars tires cellphones and hoses. Turns anything and everything people throw away into our. Carriage he is exhibiting thirty of his trash animals in a paris gallery. With my artwork i try to i try to do something for the whole population so not about the art bill it says something for the whole public and specially for the young people because they are the ones that they are still in a position to change everything. Big trash animals appeared in his hometown lisbon in twenty. He found his materials on the streets arent just. The one time graffiti artists with quite a reputation for his sculptures instructor. First in lisbon and eventually in rome. In las vegas. To new works just in time for his paris exhibition. There hanging close to the gallery the artist could hardly have better advertising for his first Center Exhibition in the french capital his works under splay on a good seven hundred square metres of floor space. You can see its really stunning its i never i never so art like this before for me its very clever very inventive mixing plastics mixing trash to make like real. Animals moving so realistic the ball moves so one of my favorites straight artists it kind of makes people think about what are we doing to undo the damage here on amends to this piece is that hard kind of like the victims like the animals and what were doing to it unknowingly in some way makes us think about. The exhibitions title i called the police refers to the us Climate Change convention. Dollars a kilo says it didnt go anywhere near far enough.
