His sons murder widely believed to be the revenge attack for the killing of three israeli teenagers in the west Bank Last Month prompting the worst clashes the city has seen in a decade. Both palestinian and israeli officials have condemned the killing and called for maximum restraint. The blood of the murdered teenagers could lead to the spilling of more. There have been a series of rocket attacks from the gaza strip into israel over the last few days, and the Israeli Defense forces have responded with air strikes. Hamas now says nine of its militants have been killed as a result of those air strikes and there will be funerals down in the gaza strip today. The hamas spokesman has called this a grave escalation, that israel has crossed a red line and says it will pay the price. I called the family before coming into the interview and theres reports they went to Israeli Police for further questioning. Were extremely concerned hes under house arrest without facing legitimate charges. Those who beat him apparently are walking free. Lets talk about that. I want to focus on tariq, 15yearold american kid from florida. Tell me about him. Just your average regular High School Freshman kid, my neighbor, lives down the street. Loves playing basketball, going fishing, taking selfies. I could never imagine he would go through such a traumatic experience, especially so early in his life. I have no doubt this is going to forever shape him. He was there for Summer Vacation to spend time with his palestinian family. Absolutely. He hadnt been there in over a decade. He wanted to go and meet his old cousins, his friends and really just enjoy a beautiful time in a beautiful land. Weve all seen the video of the Israeli Defense forces beating apparently tariq there. Its hard to imagine any action justifying that kind of reaction. However, i do think it is important to know what happened before. Has his family given you any indication what he was doing. We hear from israelis he had a slingshot on him, that maybe he was involved in throwing molotov cocktails. Really . A slingshot . I dont think theres anything at all that can justify Police Officers in uniform basically restraining the hands of a child and then repeatedly kicking him over six times, almost a dozen times punching him to the head, to the gut, while his body is lifeless and frankly hes unconscious. Theres nothing that can justify that terrible inhumane behavior. We need those officers brought to justice and israel to adjust its policies to ensure it doesnt happen again. He was arrested on his familys land. Where you see the beating taking place is his own familys yard. He had every right to be there. The israeli officers had no right to be there, no right to beat a 15yearold american child who is being kicked in the head. Thats arguably lethal force. Understood. Was he involved at throwing rocks at the Defense Forces . No, no he was not. We now have a situation where kids are being hurt, kids are being killed there. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu called mohammed khedirs father to express his condolences. If the Prime Minister could call tariqs family, what would you want him to say . I would want him to apologize for the disgusting behavior of those officers and to make steps to ensure the israeli officers and army will never again brutally attack any palestinian civilian and any child, especially those that are already restrained. Thats the first and most necessary step. We need really all sides right now to stop this disgusting cycle of violence where innocent children both on the israeli and palestinian side are being killed and injured almost daily. This has to stop. I think thats something we can all agree on. On that front, if Palestinian Leader mahmoud abbas, if he would call the parents of the three israeli young men who were killed, what do you think he should say to those parents . I think he should say were all in mourning for those children. It was very, very tragic to hear about the killing of the three teenagers, and the two palestinians before them. You cannot retaliate against children. It really shows a loss of humanity when children on either side are being targeted. We need to stop the cycle of violence before further children are hurt. If our kids are being hurt and killed, it shows how unsafe the situation is. Tariq presumably hopefully will be able to come home soon to the United States. Hes an american kid. Hell be able to come back to america, hopefully recover nicely. What do you think he will take with him from this summer in jerusalem . I think hell really have a greater appreciatiopriation for civil rights we as americans enjoy at home and due process of law and Government Accountability which apparently appears lacking in israel. I think this will shape him as to come up as an advocate for interfaith relationships. Unfortunate liss his cousins who have broken bones are still in prison. The family is extremely grateful for the world that stood up and the public attention this received. They believe he still would be in prison right now if the world did not speak out against his wrongful arrest and beat . We hope hes doing well. We saw pictures of him after the attack. We hope he recovers nicely, just a 15yearold kid. Lets turn to iraq now. Officials are looking into a video which has surfaced that purportedly shows the alleged leader of i. S. I. S. , the militant group there. The video surfaced on various social media sites and shows a man conducting a sermon at the great mosque in mosul. Reporter that video is also branded, kate, with the i. S. I. S. Logo. The video identifies him as being known to his followers following the establishment of the socalled islamic state. In his sermon he was preaching about the need for jihad, especially given since we are in the holy month of ramadan. Worshippers at this mosque had absolutely no idea he was going to be appearing. This is happening as a plane is crossing the runway as another plane is coming in for a landing and it has to abort seconds before touching down. That plane had to go back up into air space, circle back around. It raises of course a lot of questions and concerns about how close of a call that really was. Joining us now to discuss, miles obrien cnn aviation analyst and science correspondent for pbs news hour. Miles, you hear about incidents where you have to do a goaround, have to do it again. You dont often have such clear video of that actually happening. What happened here . First of all, we have a lot more cameras out there and a lot of people are interested in shooting airplanes taking off and landing. Well see more as time goes on. I will caution ever bod they the telephoto lens makes things look closer than they are. I looked at the diagram of the airport. The airbus on the ground that was crossing was about a half mile away from the landing russian 767. That said, you see they had to perform a goaround. If youve efr been in an airliner that had to do one, it gets your attention. The system did ultimately work, the last resort that is. But there were a series of mistakes. Were not exactly sure who made the mistakes, air Traffic Control or the crew on the ground or maybe both, that led to this. What is the protocol . You assume obviously the plane coming in for the landing has the rightofway, if you will, because the more immediate concern of getting the plane on the ground safely. Is there a protocol or a check that is supposed to be in place for pilots before they cross a jetway . I think it was my first lesson in an airplane when my instructor said, whenever you get near an active runway or any runway, look both ways. Its like coming to a fourway stop sign. Thats number one. The crew on the ground should have looked in the window and seen this aircraft on short final and made the decision as to whether they could do an expedited crossing or not cross at all. Its possible they were given whats called an expedited crossing clearance which means they should have crossed that runway a lot faster. Also, when you look at it then, isnt there also a risk of the russian jetliner having to reenter air space to do this goaround, is there a risk even there . A little bit, but its a procedure that doesnt happen all the time, fortunately. But it is a procedure that is drilled for by crews and air Traffic Control would be familiar with this kind of thing. They would announce a goaround. Of course in the control tower they were probably watching this happen and they would give that aircraft the clearance it would need to get back around to the runway. The big thing here for the crew is its a lot of paperwork because they have to explain to the airline why they went around and cost all that fuel. Im always wondering what are passengers on that russian jetliner experiencing . Nothing good. Nothing good. A goaround is not a lot of fun. I was on an airliner once at laguardia, a similar situation that happened just before we touched down. People were screaming on that airplane. You have this case in barcelona. There may be some similarities, albeit, different situations. In houston, another close call. This is the second time theyve had a close call in just a couple of months. A Singapore Airlines jet and a delta airliner. A singapore jumbo jet, that came within 200 feet vertically is what were told and also within more than half a mile horizontally. This is the second time this has happened. Are there airports, at least we can say lets talk about just in the u. S. Are there airports in the u. S. That are more prone to this kind of a problem . This seems to happen more and more often in houston. The big airports are a problem. The big airports near capacity are a problem and thats pretty much every one of them. Some of them have fundamentally older school designs. Boston logan is often cited for a lot of crossed runways which makes it more conducive to having problems on the ground or near the ground. The bottom line is you can add a lot of technology to aircraft to make them fly closer to the air, do all kinds of things to make it more precise. Until we build more runways to accommodate the growth which we expect which should be 1. 5 times more traffic today than over the next 20 years, if we dont build more runways, well see more and more of this. Thats what i was going to ask you, you talk about capacity issues and old designs of airports. Those two issues, those two big contributing factors. There arent quick fixes for this. Well only have more and more flights, more and more people traveling in the air as you mentioned. What do you do . Its choke point. The last big airport we built in the United States, denver, the last big runway at atlanta hartsfield, completed in the mid 2000s for a billion dollars over stern objections by the locals who have been promised there wont be another runway. Now theyre talking about a sixth runway. Its a huge problem. Its the limiting factor for safety and capacity for aviation. No matter how many bells and whistles you put on the airplane, if you dont pour more concrete, the system will eventually reach a critical phase. Makes you wonder if were reaching the critical phase of Maximum Capacity in the air and trying to get back on the ground once they are in the air. Miles, great to see you, thanks so much. She goes to the police to say, hey, my competitor is stalking me and its in the investigation of these craigslist ads about her that the police figure out, holy cow, she was plotting and thats the word, plotting to hire somebody to potentially take out her competitor. Is this kind of similar to the case we saw recently here in new york, the socalled cannibal cop . I remember his defense attorney saying we dont put people in jail for their bad thoughts, their freaky thoughts. Is there some similarity here . Youre exactly right, michaela. Absolutely. Absolutely. Basically what happened in that case is you have a former Police Officer who is breaking into Police Databases in order to do research on, quote, potential victims. He was basically exercising his First Amendment right to have sick fantasies. A judge said, hey, we cant criminalize thought. We may think what hes fanaticizing about is absolutely disgusting, but we cant convict him of doing anything because he didnt take any action. You think she was venting they went as far as to try she went as far as trying to hire a hit man. Isnt that compelling . It is compelling except here is the Counter Point to it, michaela. The socalled hit man says it never happened. So you basically have a woman who is on edge this is what the defense is going to say. She feels like shes getting stalked. Do you know first off those were Israeli Police forces that were involved in that beating . The video is shocking. We initiated on the basis of seeing the video an investigation, not an internal police investigation. Its an external independent investigation done by the ministry of justice, by a special unit there that looks into police behavior. Israel like the United States is a land where theres the rule of land. The police and the Security Services have to function within the law, not above the law. If its proven that the police acted in a way that unfortunately the video indicates, that we suspect they did, they will have to pay a price. That is unacceptable. You cannot beat up a suspect in israel you cant beat up someone who is handcuffed. Its against the law. It doesnt matter what they did before. Hypothetically this individual could have been involved in violence. Once he is arrested and handcuffed, he cant be mistreated in any way. When you take all of this in context, were now hearing people talk of whispers of the beginnings of another intifada. That is clearly a fear of anyone in israel. Do you think this is the beginnings of another into fatah . I hope not. It doesnt serve the interests of the palestinians, only the crazy extremists can rejoice of the thought of more violence. I assume the radicals want more violence. I think its important that all people of good will ignite against extremism. We are for peace, we are for reconciliation. Were against this sort of violence. Its time Palestinian Leadership step up to the plate and cut their connection with the Hamas Movement. The Hamas Movement is a terrorist movement, not only under american law, but israel law. Its time they break contacts, their alliance, their political pact with hamas and return to peace talks. You notice he didnt say what that would entail. Thats really complex for the white house. On the one hand, you have children showing up, have gone through extraordinary circumstances, many fleeing violence in their home country yet you cant send a message that if you show up at the border, that youll be allowed in. Theyre weighing the emotions of this situation and trying to balance what it would mean to let these children in for extended periods of time. When you ask at the white house, what do they say if hell stop by . Its a very complicated situation. If he goes to the border, there are a lot of potentially awkward optics. He cant meet with the children given one of the policies of the administration is to put more money into the deportation process. If he meets with Law Enforcement officials down there he could anger immigration activists who are upset about the politics of deportation. But hes going to have this drum beat over the next day or two from republicans and even some democrats who say this is a crisis and the president of the United States should show up. The comment from congressman way ar gives credence to the republicans. Theres a democrat talking about this. I raise that point because one of the critics of the president in recent weeks is rick perry, candidate for the republican nomination last cycle, disastrous campaign. Trying to run again in 2016. He is the Texas Governor. His message very much like congressman way ar saying mr. President , obama white house, i told you so a long time ago. I will tell you they either are inept or dont care and that is my position. We have been bringing to the attention of president obama and his Administration Since 2010 he received a letter from me on the tarmac. I have to believe when you do not respond in any way that you are either inept or you have some ulterior motive of which youre functioning from. Again, its a border policy question. Governor perry is also raising a competence question. Why dont they respond . They may just say im just a republican, but im the governor and they dont even respond to me. This gets into a lot of issues republicans think are good for them politically. One is the issue of competence. Weve seen it come up not only with immigration, the recent Veterans Affairs scandals, things like that. On immigration for republicans, whats interesting is this comes at a time when the white house is trying to pin the blame for comprehensive Immigration Reform not happening on republicans. This in a way allows republicans to shift the immigration conversation back to the white house and say that things at the white house did are to blame for whats happening at the border. If the president goes forward with more executive actions, we could be seeing similar situations for years to come. Republicans think they have the upper hand. House Speaker John Boehner getting a lot of attention. He says he will go forward with his plans to sue president obama. He says president obama is grossly overstepping his authority. He says over the last five years when his Political Party lost the majority in the house of representatives, the president has consistently overstepped his authority under the contusion. Whats interesting you would think conservatives say, great, sue him, hes overstepped on health care and other issues as well. But the grassroots doesnt trust the speaker. John boehner has been trying to thread this needle for years now where he has this wing of his party that wants to taking a gres sive action against the president. Overnight new search warrants just released in the investigation into the georgia father accused of leaving his toddler to die in a hot car. Now the focus is also starting to shift to the little boys mother as well, but its unclear whether Police Suspect leanna harris, if she played a role. Lets bring in mel robbins, cnn commentator and legal analyst to discuss this. Well get to the mother in a second. I want to ask you your take. Seven search warrants have been released. This i think is really important because it confirms some of what we heard was being discussed and came out in the probable cause hearing. They really were looking into the finances of the family, Credit Card Debt and also looking into that Life Insurance policy that they took out on their son. What does this tell you . Do we get a clear direction of where theyre looking, where theyre going . Absolutely, kate. Weve got the search warrants right here, you guys. Theyre looking at his iphone, looking at his computer, looking at medical records. Theyre searching the house. One thing i found interesting, kate, is that in the search warrant for the house they specifically state that theyre going to be looking for light bulbs. Why is that an interesting detail . Many of you remember that its at the middle of the day that the dad goes back out to the car and puts a package in the drivers side seat. That package contains light bulbs. So theyre actually looking at the house to see were there sufficient number of light bulbs. Theyre starting to build a case, kate, where this dad killed his son intentionally. And everything he did that day including buying light bulbs that he didnt need so he could put them in the drivers seat, presumably so he could see the progress of what was happening in the car, those are all details that theyre starting to stack together so that they can prove that this was not an accident. It was not negligence and, in fact, i think we might see this progress into a case where the charges change yet again, not from negligence and felony murder to perhaps even intentional murder. Coming out of the probable cause hearing, a lot of folks were saying while this seems incriminating, a lot of the discussion that was going on and the evidence put forth in the probable cause hearing, it spoke more to motive. The thing that seemed left out was a direct link to intent, that a lot of it was circumstantial. You think they have a stronger case than that . I do. Just last week you and i were talking about this case. I kept saying its totally plausible he did forget, that at some point during the day he realized this horrible mistake an its in the coverup of the mistake that its intentional. When you look at some of the details that came in the probable cause hearing, here are things that make you sit forward and say holy cow, five days before this happened, he watched a psa that was by a veterinarian on what happens to animals when theyre left in a hot car. The day of the actual incident youve got all kinds of information coming out, kate, about who he was texting, what he was doing on his phone. You know how the fact that the wife shows up at day care, and this is a detail that i find to be really chilling. She shows up at day care around 4 00 to pick up her son, and they tell her hes not here. He was never dropped off. Her reaction isnt, oh, my god, where is he . Its, holy cow, i bet he left him in the car. As they try to reassure her, maybe he took her out for the day, we dont know what happened. She keeps insisting that her husband left him in the hot car. And that does speak to investigators described they describe his reaction as suspicious and odd. They also describe the mothers reaction and behavior on the day she find out her son is dead as odd as well. But again you have to confirm that odd doesnt necessarily mean criminal. Youre absolutely right. What were starting to see here which is whats troubling is you have behavior before the death that shows that hes not only researching kind of hot car stuff, he also did internet searches on surviving in prison. He did four internet searches on the site looking at whats called a childfree life and reid four different articles about childfree life meaning you dont have a kid. The morning his kid is dieing, hes sexting six women which the defense might argue, hey, theres a sign hes distracted, his life is a disaster, financial problems. This is why he forgot the kid, he has all this other stuff going on. On where things go from here, mel, does it surprise you that the investigation appears to be shifting in its focus to also include the mother, or does that seem a standard course of investigation when you look into a toddlers death like this . I think its a standard course of the investigation, and particularly given the fact that investigators are also saying that while hes been in custody hes telling family members how to cash in on the two insurance policies, one that they had from his employer for 2,000 and another one that the parents took out on their son in 2012 for 25,000. When you hear hes in jail telling people how to cash in on a Life Insurance policy on this kid thats now dead, it makes you sick. So i think the police are naturally turning their investigation toward her, but i cant imagine a scenario where a couple who is having financial problems and marital problems somehow conspires to kill their kid. Most of the evidence points at the dad at this point. Its a very, very troubling case, particularly for the defense. There also is that one moment that was discussed in the probable cause hearing as relates to the mother that sticks out in my head, that when she and her husband were in Police Headquarters in the Interview Room and hes laying things out for her. She says to him, the investigator says, did you say too much . It seems the strangest reaction for a mother to be having when shes finding out her son has been killed. Completely. Absolutely. Again, you said earlier, and i think youre right, you cant really layer on top your own opinion about how you would react because you just dont know. Maybe shes referring to the sexting. Did you say too much about your phone . The truth is who knows why she said it, but it is absolutely so weird. This is going to be a fascinating case to watch because you still have friends that these two were so scared about Something Like this happening, that it actually did happen. And that there were are so much going on in this guys life in terms of marital problems, financial problems, that thats what caused the distraction. Not some intent to kill the kid that he truly loved. So well see. But these new details that came out in both the search warrants and the probable cause hearing are extraordinarily troubling and kind of make me feel sick to my stomach, frankly. They sure are. And you make an excellent point, the defense has been laying out in everything we heard from people who know them, call them, call both of them loving parents, say there is no indication that anything like this would ever happen, even his coworkers saying it seemed like a normal day, he acted completely normally throughout every interaction that they had with him, but, of course, theres no judgment to be made right now other than it is just absolutely tragic when you get back to the fact this 22monthold was left in the car and died after some seven hours in those temperatures. On sunday, Israeli Police brought six jewish suspects before a judge. In connection with the brutal killing of Palestinian Teen Mohammed Abu Khedair here in jerusalem. This development unfolding on the same day that mohammeds 15yearold cousin Tariq Abu Khdeir was released on bail. How do you feel now that youre out. I feel way better. Reporter tariq is an american citizen from florida whose Summer Vacation turned to horror when his 16yearold cousin was abducted from his home and burned alive in the woods last wednesday. Now out on house arrest, tariq shows us his bruises, angry markings of the hatred raring its head in East Jerusalem once again. Last week, tariq was beaten and arrested by Israeli Police at a protest following his cousins death. The cell phone video shows Israeli Police striking and kicking the boys limp body. Now under investigation, whether tariq physically baited the officers before the beating or if their attack was unprompted. Why did they attack you . I dont know. I ran. Did you throw they said you were throwing something. No, i jumped the fence and i tried to run away because i saw something somebody running at me. So i tried to run away. His sons murder widely believed to be a revenge attack for the killings of three israeli teenagers in the west Bank Last Month. Prompting the worst clashes the city has seen in a decade. Both palestinian and israeli officials have condemned the killings and called for maximum restraint. The fear in the passionate times that the blood of the murdered teenagers could lead to the spilling of more. Now, kate, although there has been relative quiet in the last sunday at least in East Jerusalem, by the gaza strip there has been a steady exchange of rocket fire from gaza and air strikes from the Israeli Defense forces back into the gaza strip. In fact, 25 today alone, 25 rocket attacks into israel from gaza. Hamas says nine of its militants have been killed. There will be funerals in the gaza strip in the city of rafah today for some of those killed. That is exactly the kind of rhetoric that israeli and palestinian officials are trying to avoid when the talk here is that all of this, together, could tip the region into another cycle of violence, a possible third intifada, something israeli and palestinian officials in the west bank and jerusalem are trying to avoid. Authorities there are looking into a video which surfaced that purportedly shows the alleged leader of isis. This video surfaced on various social media sites, tied to the militant group and shows a man conducting a sermon at the great mosque in mosul. Harsh criticism from both sides of the aisle this morning for how the Obama Administration is handling immigration. The president is headed to texas this week, not expected at the moment to be visiting the border. The state has been dealing with an influx of undocumented immigrants, mostly women and children, from Central America. Well, now Texas Governor rick perry as well as Texas Democratic congressman henry quahar is blaming the president. The white house knows it, the president knows it, what are they going to do about it, jim . Reporter are it is getting worse, kate. Senior Administration Officials will be meeting here at the white house to talk about this border crisis. Secretary of Homeland Security jeh johnson said on nbcs meet the press yesterday that the administration has vowed that it will stem the tide as he put it of this huge influx of undocumented immigrants floodinged fflooding ed f the border from Central America. Saying the president s lax immigration policy has essentially opened the floodgates to these immigrants coming into the United States. Democrats and the white house are pointing the finger right back at House Republicans saying they failed to pass comprehensive Immigration Reform. As you mentioned, kate, henry quahar was on state of the Union Yesterday and said the president has been one step behind and anticipating this crisis. He said it would be helpful if the president went down to the border, but later on this week when the president goes to texas, the white house says he has no plans to visit the border at this time. As you well know, this is all coming as the Administration Says it is ramping up efforts to try to discourage people from doing just that, attempting to maybe the journey across the border, especially sending their children to do that. What additional measures are they going to be taking . There is a lot of talk surrounding this issue, but thats different than action. Thats right, kate. We can report that u. S. Customs and Border Protection over the weekend sort of quietly released took this unusual step of releasing this ad campaign that will be running in Central America over the next several weeks. Pretty startling stuff. One of these ads shows a teenager from guatemala who is lying dead or unconscious played by an actor, of course, in the desert, while making that trek to the United States. It is really aimed at sending, you know, the fear of what can happen on these trips to undocumented immigrants who are trying to make that trek up to the u. S. Border. But we should also point out that this ad campaign is scheduled to run well into september. That is an acknowledgement on the part of the administration, they know this crisis will continue on for another several weeks, kate. Thats exactly right. Jim acosta at the white house for us. Amid growing criticism, the Obama Administration says it is preparing to take more measures on immigration. And address the rise in undocumented immigrants crossing the southern border from Central America. Homeland security secretary j e eh johnson spoke out about the approach on meet the press. Take a listen. Our message to those who come here illegally, our border is not open to illegal migration and were taking a number of steps to address it. Number of steps. Lets dig deep we are cnn political commentator anna navarro and cnn political commentator sally cohen, progressive activist and columnist. You heard from jeh johnson, from the white house, jim acosta, that border patrol, theyre starting an ad campaign, looked like commercials theyll be playing in Central America, saying dont send dont send people to our border. But it doesnt seem like that message is working. Now hes got criticism even from the left that the president is behind the ball on this. Well, i mean, look, putting aside for a second what the left wants the president to do, being critical about the president on Immigration Reform for quite some time. There is something important that americans need to know about this, this rise in migration from Central America has been happening since 2009 and it is happening in a number of countries, in other words, this notion that theyre coming to the United States because of our policies, because of our border, just factually doesnt hold up. Isnt that you say this has been happening for a long time, this has been a huge influx coming from Central America this year. Slow build with the recent spike. Opens up to further criticism. What have you been waiting for . Look, he has a solution. The solution is to pass comprehensive Immigration Reform, which fixes the backlog. Look, we have a broken system. It makes is very hard for people to come right now, people dont realize that. It is not just people are breaking the law, the system is broken, you need to fix it and do something about it. We need to do something about the violence in Central America thats pushing people to come here. Sally, i hate to say it, it is not going to happen anytime soon. Comprehensive Immigration Reform, just not going to happen. It is not going to happen. So they have to figure out a way to solve this crisis on the border without it. Anna navarro, we heard jeh johnson saying, our message to people in Central America right now is the border is not open to illegal immigration. That may be the message the Obama Administration thinks it is sending. Do you think thats the message that is being received in these countries . I dont think it is the message that is being heard yet because i think the pull factors are far more than what the fear factors may be of getting the kids to cross the border. And i think it is important to really understand that this is a perfect storm of push factors in Central America, the violence, the poverty, the gangs, and also pull factors from the United States, which do include immigration policy and the word of mouth that has spread in Central America. Im from nicaragua. Im from a small town in nicaragua, and i can tell you that some of the conditions that the children are coming from are such, youre talking about children who grew up who grow up barefoot, in dirt, you know, dirt roads, with extended bellies, maybe eating nothing but mangos. So the idea of dying on the trip is perhaps more better, you know, when they start thinking about it than continuing to live there. So i do think this pr campaign is important, because people need to know that this is not an easy trip. It is right now a word of mouth thing that is spreading all over Central America. And it looks like any kid can jump on a train or get a coyote and end up in the United States. Well, thats not so. There is a desert. There are coyotes that rape kids. It is a very dangerous trek. And i think parents need to understand what they are sending their children into. When you paint that kind of a picture, we know there is an immediate need that is going on, we have you just talked about that campaign, ana, do you think republicans are ready to sign on even to emergency measures at this point. Everything is looked at the this point in you look at the calendar, through the lens of the midterm elections. It seems that i feel like frankly, the dysfunction in washington is such right now that even when they agree, they dont seem to be able to get anything done. And i think this issue of president obama and the executive orders on immigration is also going to ruffle feathers when it comes to this request, even though there may be some agreement when it comes to this particular request, as opposed to come this week that the Obama Administration is going to ask for are 2 billion more and a change in the law so the kids from Central America can be repatriated as quickly as the ones from mexico are. They are right now falling through a loophole. Whether they will be able to get it done, the white house and congress, i got to lift my eyebrows at that, i havent seen anything get done between the white house and congress and the dysfunction is such that i think there is a completely broken marriage. The white house is right. Incidentally the immigration bill that the Senate Passed would pass the house. Thats not going to happen right now, sally. It would pass if boehner would bring it up for a vote. Thats an important thing. Do republicans support the law on the table if they bring it to a vote . The sad thing happening here sally, i support it, but i also recognize this issue with the you know, look, it is very you and i can be on tv spewing out all sorts of statistics about how the border is more secure, but when people in america are seeing little kids show up on this side of the border, unaccompanied, it becomes hard to convince folks that there is not this horrible ferocity to the border. It is a very difficult situation right now. Heres the thing. We have two things. We have a humanitarian crisis. It needs to be solved with humanitarian measures. It is largely being driven by what is going on in Central America. And we should be solving this with aid and care and compassion as opposed to just militarization and more, you know, police forcing at the border, number one. Number two, we have something that republicans are trying to take and turn into a political crisis. Theyre trying to use it, especially john boehner, to make an excuse for not passing Immigration Reform that they dont want to pass. The jokes on them. New search warrants just released this morning in the investigation into a georgia father accused of letting his toddler die in a hot car. And now the mother of 22monthold Cooper Harris is being eyed in this investigation. For more now, lets discuss this with hlns nancy grace. Nancy, thanks so much for being with us this morning. Thank you for inviting me. Good morning. So we get a look at the search warrants this morning. They include the desire to look at iphones, computers, medical records, even the status of lightbulbs in the house of justin harris. What more evidence do you think that investigators need to really make their case here . Well, as far as the father goes, ross, i think that there is sufficient evidence right now to indict him and right now it is in a holding pattern. We had a hearing last week. It is a bindover hearing, typically called that in this jurisdiction, where the case is bound over to the correct court. This would be a felony court for a homicide charge. I strongly advise the District Attorney to indict in the alternative, which means malice or premeditated murder and then felony murder based on Child Cruelty one, Child Cruelty two, and other charges. They brought forth so much evidence in the hearing last week that they got enough to go forward. But over the weekend, more search warrants were revealed, were released, including as you said, one for lightbulb bes. What is interesting about that is as follows. That day, the father, ross, goes out to lunch with his friends. We dont know who really instigated that. He is the only one that wants to do shopping during lunch time. He gets one pack of lightbulb bes. He brings them back and in front of his friends goes to the car where the child is probably now dead, opens the door, throws in the lightbulbs and slams the door and leaves. They conducted a search, and based in a search warrant, we see the evidence of it, to find out did they need lightbulbs. Did they have extra lightbulbs in the home or was all of this just a ruse to have his friends come by and see him nonchalantly look at the car. Interesting. You can see the case that the investigators are trying to put together here. I want to take a sidestep for a second. Over the weekend, all i heard was people talking about the sexts. He was sexting while his son was in that hot car. It is stunning to hear that. It is unseemly to the nth degree. But in and of itself, the sexting, is that evidence here that a crime was committed . Well, a crime not related to the murder or the childs death, yes. Because he has now, im talking about the father, ross harris, set himself up for another charge of possibly statutory rape, possibly enticing a minor. He was sexting a teen, including sending photos, let me just say, selfies, of himself naked, his private parts. He would send those to a teen girl. She had just turned 17. There were six different women that he was sexting that morning. You know what is even more, to me, odder than a man obsessed with sexting . Is the fact that if you look at his computer history, he actually looked up people in the throes of death, and he would watch one video after the next, all under different circumstances, some died in iraq, some committed suicide, there were various modes of death, but he would watch the video of someone actually dying over and over and over. He looked at the video that a veterinarian who i spoke to at length had created and posted and the veterinarian sat in the car are in the hot car and explained to the viewer what a dog or an animal would go through in a hot car death. He watched the whole thing. And so did his wife. And ill guarantee you this, say you may say it means nothing, but for her to sit on the front row, looking bored, and snapping gum the whole hearing, that didnt help anything. Lets talk about her a little bit right now. There is this idea lets do. This idea that investigators are looking into her. Is she in trouble, do you think . Yes, i would say shes in trouble. However, i would talk about leanna harris, the wife, whenever a child goes missing or dies an unusual death, both parents in the immediate family are under suspicion. That doesnt necessarily mean she had anything to do with it, it does mean, however, that is where investigators look first. Is it sop, Standard Operating Procedure . Dont know. The fact she also says she too looked up children dieing in hot cars just before the baby dies, cooper dies, there is no coincidence in criminal law. Of course theyre looking at her. At the funeral, she said, i find this very unusual, she said if she could bring cooper back, she wouldnt do it. Yeah. That really struck an odd chord. People are also looking at comments she made when she found out her child was missing, she said, oh, my husband, must have left the child in the car. People think thats strange. When she was at the police station, she asked her husband, oh, did you say too much . She said a lot of odd things, including as you say at the funeral service. When does odd, when does crazy, when does that become culpable . When does that become evidence that she did something wrong . Well, i dont know that i would call it crazy. I would call it probative, you know. You say tomato, i say tomato. But long story short, when one of the first things she says when she sees her husband as not what happened, or break down in tears, she said, well, did you say too much to police . Okay. Thats way off the chart. And also, as you brought up, when she went to day care to pick up the baby, she goes, ross isnt here. And they go, oh, well, he was never your husband never dropped him off, she said, cooper is not here, well, ross must have left him in the car. And the day care worker said, oh no, no, no, there is a million things that could have happened. And she goes, no, he left him in the car. As if she already knew that. That, to me, is damming. Can i ask you, if you were the defense right now, if you were the attorney, lets take it for the father now, lets stay with him, what would you be doing . Number one, i would get paid up front. Besides getting paid. This guy is looking yeah, definitely get paid up front. I dont know the defense attorney and the prosecutor in this case. Vic reynolds is the d. A. The defense attorney is matt killgore. He used to be on in a prosecution position at the attorney generals office. Very, very good. In fact, on a murder case i tried, he was working on the appeal. And i remember at the time thinking how very thorough he was. Very impressed with him. What would i be doing right now . Well, for one thing, i wouldnt let anybody talk because all of these statements that they the police have gotten is because they were yakking in the interrogation room. So all these phone calls from the jail, hello, theyre recorded. Visits, dont talk. Because thats going to get them into a lot of trouble. The battle over the Los Angeles Clippers goes to court today, a judge will decide if Shelly Sterling is authorized to sell the team. Former microsoft chief to Steve Ballmer. But her husband Donald Sterling says she cant make the deal. In a last minute filing by his attorneys could delay the case. Cnns sara sidner has more on sterling versus sterling. Reporter donald and Shelly Sterling are going one on one with 2 billion and an nba team hanging in the balance. The fight is over whether she had the sole legal right to sell the l. A. Clippers. And it has gotten nasty. Especially after two doctors hired by his wife determined donald was mentally unfit to run the trust that owned the clippers. According to Court Documents filed by shellys attorneys, donald lashed out against those doctors on voice mail. Im not incompetent. Youre [ bleep ] incompetent you stupid [ bleep ] doctor. Reporter crucial to the case, this letter dated may 22nd. His wife shelly claims it gives her the power to sell the team. In the may 22nd letter, all it indicates is that shelly has the right to discuss aspects of the sale with the nba. It never references a third party buyer. Reporter three weeks later on june 9th, sterling changed his mind. That same day, shelly and former microsoft ceo Steve Ballmer signed a binding multibillion dollar contract selling the l. A. Clippers. Shelly contends she had every right to. Her attorneys entered this evidence into court. She says it shows donald could no longer control the trust. Now, two Board Certified doctors actually examined donald and determined they have the early say of alzheimers and was mentally incapacitated. And in the Sterling Family trust it states that is enough to remove him as a trustee. Donalds attorneys contend he was tricked. We are going to argue there are examinations that were not complete, that there was fraud in the examinations. He issued public statements saying, way to go, shelly, great deal. And then he changes his mind. You cant do that. Reporter for months, the case played out in the court of public opinion. But the ultimate decision will be made by a judge. A swimmer is counting his blessings after surviving a great white shark attack. Hes speaking out describing what was going through his mind as he came face to face with that shark. I really thought that that might be it. I thought i thought i might be dying. Still recovering from the bite marks cut into his body, Long Distance swimmer steeven robles describes his terrifying encounter with a great white shark over the weekend. It is a Burning Sensation along the bite marks, like a jellyfish sting that just keeps penetrating deeper and deeper. Reporter Officials Say a 7 foot long juvenile shark had become agitated by a fishermans hook, when it attacked robles who was swimming near the Manhattan Beach pier in Southern California. We saw each other, it did a sharp left turn, and then lunged right at me, didnt even hesitate. Reporter his desperate cries for help caught on tape. Bit right into my torso. And im sitting there staring at this shark eye to eye, just right there. And i could feel the vibration of this entire shark gnawing into my skin. Reporter robles says he acted on instinct, fighting for his life. I grabbed his nose with my hand here, and i tried to pull it off of me. And fortunately the shark released itself. Reporter the attack sent nearby swimmers scrambling for safety. Shark get out of the water reporter robles knows hes lucky to be alive and incredibly escaping with flesh wounds and a punctured artery in his hand. It was just the scariest thing you could imagine. Want to bring in marine scientist chris wojieck. I think we have to talk about would you consider this a true shark attack, given the fact that this shark was on a line, caught by a fisherman, on a fishermans hook and essentially kind of bit the first thing he came in contact with. I wouldnt consider this a real shark attack. I think this was sort of an unhappy coincidence. They described the shark as being agitated because it had a hook in its mouth. Tell us how they would react to that situation. When i was out shark fishing and you brought the shark up to the back of the boat, they were very, very angry and they would be i wonder why. Exactly. They would lash out at anything in front of them, bite the back of the motor, the boat itself, the chum bag. A survival mechanism. Absolutely. Ive been in the water with a lot of sharb lot of sharb s lot of sharbharks, but i would r want to be in the water with one that is hooked. This was on a fishermans line. It is illegal to fish for to hunt for these type of sharks, the great white. It is. But unfortunately you cant distinguish which animal is going to bite on the end of your line. You could be fishing for white sharks, but telling everyone you were just fishing for another species of shark because the attack was the same, might use a bigger hook, but you can say i was fishing for the biggest leopard shark in the world which grow to be five or six feet long. But youre supposed to cut the line as soon as youre able to identify it is a great white. Right. Were getting differing reports, anywhere between 7 and 10 feet. That sounds look a juvenile. Definitely. A year or two old. A year or two old. Not uncommon to see them in the Manhattan Beach area in Southern California at all. They kind of like that area. They do. And over the last couple of years they have had quite a few sort of take up residence this time of year off of that pier. I spoke to a friend of mine, eric martin, the director of the aquarium on the end of the pier and he said hes been out paddle boarding specifically to film the sharks on his paddle board because it was that regular that they were there and he into that they would be there when he went. That regular and this is where you tell us to pump the brakes a little bit. Attacks are very rare. Especially with one of these small animals. Theyre not used to hunting sea lions and seals yet at this point in their lives. Theyre hunting for fish. When they see Something Big like us, it doesnt even dawn on them that we are a prey item. A bigger one would think a little bit more along those lines. A little hungrier. But smaller ones dont think about us as food. Highlight for us, youve been hear to talk about it in the past, it begs repeating, this shark is in bigger numbers because the food source is a lot greater now too, isnt it . The food source is greater. Were doing more with conservation of their prey items. Marine mammal protection act put an end to all killing of marine mammals. But also the fact that we stopped killing them back in 1997 has also done wonders for the population. Our producer put together a little if youre feeling badly about the chances of getting attacked by a shark, they put together information, you have a better chance of this is the day that 13 fatal shark attacks in california, since 1950, thats you have a greater chance of getting killed by a cow. Im not sure how that would happen. Maybe cow tipping of some sort. And then a little world cup action, you have a greater chance of getting bitten by lieu suarez, the soccer player.
