Discovers. Discover discovered. Plus all of us running owe voters an explanation about who we are and what we plan to do if elected. And we thought it was a scary movie. Mistake down a man wielding an ax and a pellet gun at a nashville Movie Theater. Is it safe to see a movie . Lets talk live in the cnn newsroom. And good morning. Im carol costello. Thank you so much for joining me. The press secretary for malaysias transport minister telling cnn aircraft window parts, airplane seat cushions and Aluminum Materials have been found on reunion island in the west indian ocean. Its not clear if this is from that missing Malaysian Airlines flight 370. Reunion island was where part of an aircraft wing was found last week. Malaysia says its now conclusively confirmed that this wing part is a flaperon from a boeing 777. The french minister was more definitive though, saying more tests need to be done. A woman whose mother was on board the plane says she doesnt believe malaysias prime minister. I dont believe it. Im furious. And i think this announcement is very irresponsible. Lets talk about the breaking news this morning. Reporter im here about 120 miles away from reunion island where they discovered that flaperon. The reason were here is we got a chance to go up on a coast guard flight over the island to look for any signs of mh370. We got back just an hour ago. I tell you, being up in the air really sort of illustrated the challenges these searchers are facing. The water is expansive, the coastline is long. And this is a very tedious process. We were up there with a team of three. And they managed to spot what they said was a white object. One of the pilots just caught it in the corner of his eye. They turned the plane around toe try and find it again and it had disappeared. What they ended up doing was call into a dispatch on the island and they put out a boat to try and find it again. But by the time we landed still no signs of this debris. And it really illustrated just how challenging this search is. Thank you so much. Like i said at the top of the show though more debris was found on reunion island very near the island where Erin Mcloughlin is now. I want to talk about that debris for the moment. With me now cnn aviation analyst peter goals. Welcome, peter. Good morning, carol. Good morning. Are you surprised more debris was found . I am a little bit. But it has not been confirm that this debris is from flight 370. The malaysians are anxious to put a wrap on this portion of the identification. They moved quickly to identify the wing piece prior to anyone else was willing to do that. I think we ought to treat these latest discoveries with a little degree of skepticism. Lets see if theyre confirmed. Yeah. Because an airplanes windshield is a little more tricky to identify where that came from right . There should be serial numbers. But the issue is ive seen some distant video of the piece. It did not look right to me. But lets get it to the investigators, people who have the engineering drawings to compare the piece to. Lets be a little bit methodical about this. And then they said aluminum material was found and also seat cushions. Could seat cushions survive for that length of time in the ocean . Sure. A seat cushion could last over 500 days. And a seat cushion would be far easier to identify. You would know what kind of material if it had the exterior covering on it you could identify it through that. But again, i think this was a spokesperson for the minister of transportation who was not on reunion island. Theyre doing this through photographs at best. Id say we ought to take it slow down the train just a little bit. Will do. Thanks for your insight as always. I appreciate it. Onto politics tonight. 17 candidates descend on cleveland. Tonights objective is clear. Steel the spotlight from donald trump. But before that theres a socalled happy hour debate with the candidates who did not make the cut for prime time. And while the donald wont be anywhere near that stage, hes still rubbing some candidates the wrong way. In august of the year before the election its about name id its about celebrity. Its about having a talk show. Its about being related to president s. If lebron james were in this mix, hed be in the 7 00 debate and the governor of ohio would be with me. I dont know about that. Tonights showdown gives candidates a chance to test their positions on everything from domestic issues to the economy. Sarah murray is in cleveland. One burning question. We understand that this sound, a buzzer might be used to cut candidates off. Reporter theyre reporting that one of the things theyre considering to keep these candidates in line tonight is to use the buzzer the shot clock, to keep them on their time. Well have to see if that plays out. Campaigns are telling me theyre aware this is going to be a tricky format. You have 60 seconds to answer the questions, 30 second for a rebuttal. Thats a short amount of time even if youre not trying to navigate around donald trump, who is so unpredictable. What is donald trump going to do on that stage . When you talk to these other campaigns they are not interested in picking a fight with him. They realize he does hit back the hardest when he is attacked and they dont want to pick those fights. This is the biggest audience a lot of them have had throughout this president ial debate. So were going to be keeping an eye on all of that tonight as well as whether jeb bush can recover from his recent stumbles and have a breakout performance. How have they been preparing . John kasich lives here. It was a pretty easy commute for him. The rest of them are showing up in town. Some of them are hunkering down and doing debate prep today. Others are praising money. Others like donald trump flying in this afternoon and flying out the same night. As usual hes doing his own thing. Still to come in the newsroom, though the donald will be literally center stage at tonights debate a lot of eyes will be on jeb bush. Can he bounce back from recent gaffes . Well talk about that next. So youre a Small Business expert from at t . Yeah, give me a problem and ive got the solution. Well, we have 30 years of customer records. Twitter is stepping up with the hashtag, debate questions we want to hear. Colin asks quote, which of your relatives did worse as president . And one famous comedian is also taking a jab at the gop field. Kathy griffin asks how does it feel to officially be in Kathy Griffins act . Our next guest will be in the audience tonight. Welcome, paul. Good morning, carol. So has anyone offered to buy your ticket . The tickets are getting more and more popular. Ive had quite a few people asking yeah. No money offers though. So seriously jeb bush hes got a lot of ground to make up. He has to have a great performance, right . Hes got to start moving, you know in the right direction. And with the maximum of nine or ten minutes before they get the buzzer i think its going to be really hard for anyone to gain traction. None of us really know what to expect tonight. Thats what makes it so exciting. We are all in kind of uncharted territory. Weve never had a reality star rat at the center of a political debate before. Im trying to decide whether mr. Bush standing next to trump is a good thing for mr. Bush or a bad thing. Well the camera will be there a lot. You probably dont want to be at the wings of this debate since you will look like youre not really a part of it. Youve got ten people. Youre not going to get a lot of closeups there. Being next to him, yeah good the camera is on you. But also likely to be overshadowed. Do you think trump will go on the attack . Do you think hell actually talk about policy. We know he hasnt prepared only because he says he hasnt prepared. Maybe he did. I dont know. I wonder whether donald trump knows what hes going to do tonight. He seems to like to wing it. He did do a somewhat substantive interview with bloomberg. Hes a businessman, so you could see some substance there. Hes going to feel it out. If hes attacked expect him to attack back rather viciously. You know perhaps we havent talked about it much but ted cruz is a great debater, right . In college he was masterful at that. He might be an interesting presence at that. Youve got a few people up on stage who are fairly talented and experienced debaters. This isnt your standard debate format. Theyve probably never been in a debate with ten other candidates. Its not as much a debate as a sound bite war. Youre going to get 60 second to Say Something. And we all know what you say during the debate isnt as important as whats reported that you said at the debate the next day. Youre going to be trying to get that sound bite for the next nights coverage. And make it perfect. Because if you Say Something wrong or its a gaffe, that too is going to be played over and over again. Well check back with you. Thank you so much. Checking some other top stories. Donald trump has been touting his great business tactics every chance he gets. But will being a great businessman make him a great president . Well talk about that next. Fifty ok . All right. The big debate set to get underway in just a matter of hours. The arena in cleveland could be a make or break moment for anyone in a crowded republican field. Donald trump says he plans to be himself. And by that he means a mega rich ultra successful businessman who is able to force countries like mexico to build a great big wall because he says so. Its simple. Theyre taking in billions and billions of dollars. Im going to say, mexico guess what this is not going to continue. Youre going to pay for the wall. And ive said they are going to pay for the wall and they will pay for the wall. They will pay for that wall. We expect trump to play up his businessman credentials big tonight. Here to talk about that cnn president ial historian douglas brink brinkley. Youre the big business guy. You listen to donald trump. He says i can force mexico to do that because im tough and theyll do it because i say so. First of all, theres Business People and then theres donald trump. Lumping them back together this is a problem that Business People have when they go into politics. They always say theyre going to bring rational Business Practices to politics. But its not that easy. They want to bring accountability and transparency. Thats fine. Were all for that. But its more complicated. Outcomes take a lot longer. Sometimes its a bad mix. Sometimes it can be a bad mix because you do sort of have to be a politician right . You cant just go tell a lawuw lawmaker you do it because i say so. And the lawmaker says no im going to make it as hard as only for you because youve just done that. Ceos like to bark orders and have things move. Doesnt work that way in washington. It isnt a good idea for a president to be deeply unable to handle the kind of tick tokck more likely than not, you will find candidates most famously franklin roosevelt, warring against factors of great wealth. Theres a populace message from the left theres a lot more middle class americans than there are rich people. Billionaires seem to live in their own fantasy bubble. Is that true andy . Fantasy bubble maybe is a little strong. But i dont disagree. If you think about it just to echo what douglas was saying ceos are used to a command and control system. Everyone reports up to them. In washington as president you also have to deal with the Judicial Branch and congress. If youre not used to being clab ra ra collaborative, youre not going to succeed. I think about Mike Bloomberg in new york city was very good at transformation transformational government. Otherwise the record is sort of mixed. Warn harding was a newspaper publisher. Herbert hoover ozwas a mining tycoon. George h. W. Bush was an oilman. How would historians rate them . Its a weak list that you just read. And i think George Herbert walker bush was also the child of Prescott Bush who was already a u. S. Senator. And kind of had politics in the family blood. Our first president to graduate from annapolis as much as a business person. So the two youre looking at were failures. Warn hard Warren Harding a terrible failure. Herbert hoover a failure also. Trump is a showman and hes used media to present himself and make money. And a billionaire. There are connections to reagan. And perot seemed to me more real than a traditional doesbusinessman. On the other hand its kind of nice to think that donald trump could go to russia and sit down with Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Putin would respect his toughness and they would negotiate a deal. In that instance maybe donald trump would be effective. Id like to see how he would do in china. That would be very interesting. Where bluster does not work so well. On the other hand he does speak his mind. I think its interesting also to look at president s who have been successful. We always bash politicians and say how terrible the process is. Look at some of our stronger president s. Ronald reagan fdr. They were politicians they were both right . Its very much of a mixed bag. You have an actor politician. Fdr professional politician. Jfk, who came from nowhere. Barack obama who came from nowhere. Still to come in the newsroom Vladimir Putin burning mad about russian sanctions. Now hes cracking down on american food. Billions of dollars worth of food going up in flames simply because it comes from outside of russia. Putin ordered a crackdown of food imports from the United States canada and australia in response to western sanctions over ukraine. Reporter thats right. In fact the ban on those Food Products from the u. S. And other countries has been enforced now for more than a year. In any upscale russian supermarket you could still get foreign food. All thats now about to change because the kremlin is extremely irritated about the fact that shops are smukggling this food in. And theyre taking steps now to stop it and destroy the foozd they seize on the border. Its the start of a new crackdown on the import of foods russia has branded illegal. Bacon seized at the border and incinerated. It was produced in denmark, says this russian agricultural official. It was meant to be sold on the territory of ukraine, not russia. Theres outrage that at a time of Economic Hardship this perfectly good food will be destroyed. One online petition signed by tens of thousands of russians called for seized products to be distributed to the needy like pensioners or the unemployed. Its been more than a year now since the kremlin banned imports of some western foods in retaliation over sanctions imposed by the west over the ukraine. Products have been smuggled in and discreetly sold at high end supermarkets like this one. But with the new crackdown, that may no longer been tolerated. One group has been highlighting the violations raiding the stores still stocking the food. These nuts are on a list of banned products. This activist told the camera. Critics say the real danger might be enforcing the food ban so strictly with the risk of inflating russian food prices even higher. The russian public is of course sensitive to those inflating prices. And that petition i mentioned in that report its now been signed by 275,000 people in russia. Not exactly a revolution perhaps. But in a country where people are usually very supportive of the kremlin, it just shows how unpopular this move to burn the food is becoming. I was just going to ask you, is putins favorability rating still extraordinarily high . Reporter absolutely. According to the polls ive seen its somewhere in the region still of 86 . Absolutely incredible. Theres a sense in which, despite the sanctions imposed by the west on russia despite the other problems in the International Community, putin himself remains popular. But its exactly this kind of issue that threatens to derail that. So i expect the kremlin will be watching this petition and the fallout from this latest move very closely indeed. Oh, jon stewart signs off from the daily show tonight after 16 years of satire that skewers the high and mighty. Im going to miss watching you on this show but i think the most reliable way to take a good thing and make it go bad is to hold onto it too long. I think thats right. So you got to let it go and also its really time to go. If were being honest. Cnns Brian Stelter is outside the Comedy Central studio to tell us more. Good morning. Reporter hey, good morning. I dont think jon stewart is here yet but many many of his fans are, carol. Take a look at the line. Usually theres not lines out here until the afternoon but some folks were here at 2 00 a. M. Getting ready hoping to be in the audience for the final show. By the way, it doesnt tape until 6 00 p. M. Tonight. Of course it airs at 11 00. You will see theyre loading the gear in and out of the studio getting ready here preparing for the taping. Its interesting because trying to keep the actual plans for the finale a secret. I talked to the president of the Network Earlier this week and the president of the network said nope jon wants it this way. He doesnt want any announced guests. He wants it all to be a surprise for viewers. We do know its going to be an extra long episode. It will be about 50 minutes long. I have a feeling maybe there will be a little score settling by jon stewart, some final words for some of his foes. We know the producers reached out to some of the enemies, maybe bill oreilly, maybe donald trump. Obviously trump will be busy he will be at the debate stage in cleveland, but, you know, its possible well see some videotaped messages or Something Like that. So well find out for sure tonight. Trying to figure out whether its a good thing or a bad thing that jon stewarts last show airs on the same night as the first gop debate. Reporter its a very good point. If you think about it for liberals who tend to make up the core of stewarts audience they have two hours of ecstasy during the debate. They can laugh at the gop candidates and then an hour of agony as jon stewart signs off. Maybe for conservatives its the opposite because a lot of folks on the right are happy to see stewart going. They feel hes unfair. They think he skews very far to the left, but to the young people out here in this line, they say hes genuine source for context and perspective. Well see if thats still true when trevor noah takes over in september. But let me play a part of the program from last night. I think its notable that jon stewart has always said hes just a comedian. Hes always encouraged people not to take him seriously, and last night he was downplaying his effect on the world. Here is what he said. What the [ bleep ] is going on here the world is demonstrably worse than when i started have i caused this . Have have have my efforts all been for naught . Reporter hes always been very good about being selfeffacing and selfdeprecating but a lot of critics and Television Writers and commentators would say stewart actually has had a big impact in some ways a positive impact by showing people the power of video clips, by showing people the power of tough Interview Questions in otherwise comfortable settings and by pointing out hypocrisy and contradictions and misstatements both from politicians and occasionally from cable news anchors . Occasionally . How about often . Whether it was spot on or not. Fair point. Hes been a very effective media critic. I would say that. Sometimes he takes cheap shots, theres no doubt about it. Whenever my face would pop up i would have that flash of terror i got very nervous about what he was going to say, but i found myself agreeing with him more often than i found myself disagreeing when it came to the media critiques. Im the opposite. Brian stelter reporting live. Thanks so much. Reporter he always have to give him the raw material, didnt we . We did. The next hour of cnn newsroom starts now. A surprising admission from the Malaysian Transport Ministry because so far the teams down on reunion island that cnn has been told that there was nothing significant. Now the malaysians say they found plane parts which they say are like windowpanes, aluminum material and other parts that they say do relate to an aircraft. However, carol, they have said this that they do not say whethers that part of mh370. They say theyll be sending it here to france to this laboratory run by the ministry of defense which is already running investigations on that flaperon identified late yesterday evening, carol, as part of mh370. Carol . Sigh ma mow shin thanks so much. Reporting live this morning. Lets talk with cnn aviation analyst and former Inspector General of the department of inspection mary skichiavo. Good morning, mary. Good morning. Family members, they dont even believe that flaperon is the real deal even though malaysian Authorities Say it is. So should we believe them this time around when they say they found all of that debris on reunion island suddenly . Not without careful investigation and proof, and probably the best entity to do that is going to be boeing. For example, starting with the seat cushions they have to meet u. S. Aircraft seat flamability standards. Boeing will know whether or not these are seats from a 777. And since it was manufactured here it will meet our standards and they will be able to tell if this is an aircraft seat or not. Everything else would have to float. I did see online from reunion island somebody posted a picture of the window parts. It did look like it could be a window part but, again and theres just so much trash in the ocean, its difficult to know if that would be it for sure. It has to meet exacting specifications. Boeing engineers will know whether that is a part or not. It may not have a serial number on the window part. It could be whats called a standard part. So yes, they should be skeptical unless and until tested and fully vetted but if it is the parts from that part of the plane, that would mean that the fuselage was broken open and that probably should end speculation that if somebody did this intentionally, they settled it onto the ocean floor so no trace would be found. That would mean the plane was broken apart. Broken apart in the air before it landed you mean . No it could have hit the water at a high rate of speed and broken at impact but there was some speculation that someone scuttled it by landing it gently on the ocean and it sunk to the bottom without a trace. This would blow that assumption or that theory anyway out of the water. Do you think the flaperon came from flight 370 . Oh, without a doubt. I mean went so far as to check on online you can buy used parts and used aircraft parts. There was a shortage of 777 parts. You could not readily go buy a flaperon on the website, so if no other 777 had crashed in that part of the world and you cant readily get the parts, it just absolutely has to be mh370 and i think that the french investigators did a disservice by not just telling them why they said there are indications. In this case i think the malaysians should have just gone one step further and say, look we have the measurements, we have part numbers, we have this and we have that and just told them. The mystery is just painful and cruel to the families. Mary schiavo, thank you for quarter your insight. 17 candidates are descending onto cleveland. The 10 candidates deemed ready for prime time will be packed onto the debate stage, each given one minute per question to convince voters their vision for america is best. Biggest challenge may not be in messaging though but taking the spotlight away from donald trump. But for all the potential gop infighting, the head of the Republican National Committee Says all that attention is a good thing. Were probably going to have 12 or 15 Million People in this country tune in to a republicanonly debate in august and i think that in some ways it can be very helpful to our party. So will it be helpful to the gop . Lets talk about that. Im joined by the Communications Director for Mike Huckabee for president , alice stewart. Good morning, alice. Good morning, carol. Thanks for having me. Thanks for being here. Are you nervous for your candidate . Well theres more of a sense of excitement around the air in the past several weeks as we have been gearing up for the debate as it is for every debate hes ever participated in. And preparation like many others is to get together with injure staff and do debate prep thats going over material and potential questions and reviewing different scenarios on how the questions will be posed to you, but what governor huckabee has been doing is gearing up for this event tonight and having an opportunity on a National Stage to share his views on the issues and reinforce his record show a contrast between the other candidates but its something that hes very comfortable with doing. Hes got a long history as a debater, and this is a great forum. It will be tough though. There will be some tough questions and serious contenders. And you know donald trump is there which is different from every other debate because donald trump is a unique person. Has governor huckabee prepared differently for this debate than in past debates . Dumponald trump is his own man up there on the stage and he doesnt need anyone else to help talk about him. As you mentioned, carol, each candidate has one minute to answer these questions, and governor huckabee is going to talk about himself in the limited time they all have up there and theres no premeditated effort to go after donald trump or any of the candidates because the time is so short. Were going it use the time to get our message out there and speak to the american people. Do you think that the format of this debate is fair because the governor and the rest of the candidates will get very little time to respond to questions. They wont even get to rebut unless someone specifically asks calls out their name. Every debate has different rules and regulations. Your cnn debate coming up next months a different rules and regulations and thats part of the process. You go about each one looking at how you use your time wisely and you take your win to answer the question and you have a concise answer that addresses the issues and when you have the opportunity to rebut, you jump in there and do so. But all the debates are different. Every candidate up there is more than anything theyre thankful for the opportunity to get their message out. They have been campaigning across the country in iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina talking about voters and talking with people about whats important to them. They will share it on the stage. It will be a much much larger audience. In governor huckabees mind who is the person to beat on that stage tonight . Its about him. Hes up there for himself to get his message out there. He doesnt look at any of the other candidates. Thats not a factor in how he prepares really . Absolutely. And thats the way he has always been. Hes been a debater for many many years. He goes out there, this is his opportunity to get his message out there. Thats how he prepared for it. Thats how he will go up on the stage and thats what we will see tonight at 9 00. All right. Alice stewart, thank you so much for being with me this morning. I appreciate it. Coming up in the newsroom, its the phone call everyone is talking about. Guess who decided to call donald trump before he decided to run for president . Bill clinton. Yeah, that bill clinton whose wife was already in the 2016 race at the time. According to the Washington Post quote, the tone of the tall was informal and clinton never urged trump to run. Rather he was curious and told trump he was striking a chord with frustrating conservatives and was a rising force on the right. With me to talk about this cnn political commentator and jeb bush supporter ana navarro and political commentator errol lewis lewis. What do you make of this errol . I think its fascinating. Clearly bill clinton wanted to maybe get a little intel, sort of measure the waters. I think as one of the best sort of politicians of the last generation hes probably right, that there is some rising force of conservatism that trump represents or at least is in line with and that we would all do well to try to figure out what thats all about if we want to understand the dynamics of the debate tonight and the unfolding gop president ial campaign. Its interesting bill clinton gave that great piece of advice to donald trump, anna but hasnt seemed to communicate a great strategy to his wife since her Approval Ratings are going down. Well it seems maybe bill clinton is giving more advice to donald trump than to Hillary Clinton lately. Look im its intriguing its surprising its entertaining but lets remember that donald trump and the clintons have had a longtime relationship. Donald trump is one of the big donors to Hillary Clinton, also a big donor, six figures to the clinton foundation. The clintons were at the front pew of Donald Trumps last wedding, whatever it was, number three, number four and so, you know its a longstanding relationship. Its a new yorker thing i think, and if you know anything about bill clinton, you know the guy loves to talk politics so im, you know not surprised. If i were a conspiracy theorist maybe this is something that we can attribute to the vast clinton wing conspiracy, maybe trump is a double agent. Oh geez. Who knows. I want to talk about one of Donald Trumps advisers. His name is roger stone. Here he is on the cover of the Weekly Standard is richard in accordanceon nixon tattooed on his back. Some call him the professional lord of mystery. He reportedly fib lyly tipped off the fbi about he will yots spitters trip to a prostitute and most recently he had some choice words for you ana navarro. This is what he tweeted. Ana navarro the dumbest person on tv since cnn fired moron Roland Martin. Both quota hires. Ana, care to bite back . What can i tell you, carol . I really dont like to stoop to that level. You know i think that guy represents everything thats wrong with politics. A hatemonger, a twitter troll, but it tells you a lot about the kind of people donald trump is surrounding himself with. People that threaten others that just spew out venom against other people who may have a disagreement with them. You have seen he has fired at least two aides in the last few days over hateful comments on social media. So sometimes you have to wonder whether donald trump is running for president of the United States or president of twitter trolls. As far as, you know being a quota hire which is what roger stone i guess accuses me and Roland Martin of being, sorry, roger, i guess, you know, the quota for the weird bleach blond swinger was taken. Okay. I just want to ask one more question about stone and ill pose this question to you, errol. Stone told Jeffrey Toobin in 2008 politics is not about uniting people its about dividing people and the polls this time around certainly proves hes right, right . Well it suggests that you can win some things. You cant necessarily unify the country, move the country forward, and, frankly, youd probably lose about as many races as you try to win that way. But roger stone, i mean you say hes into political dirty tricks. He would be the first to acknowledge that. I interviewed him many many times. We have a friendly relationship. Hes actually quite good on mens fashion. Thats probably where you can get something out of him that wont offend anybody. Oh errol. But this is the politics of 50 plus one is what has really brought the country to a very low place in the last decade or so. This election like the last three, well ask ourselves are we ready to move beyond this . Could donald trump be such a person . As always we can only say we hope so. Can donald trump be the uniter when he hires a guy like this . Its not a promising start. If he wants to bring the country together this is not a promising start. On the other hand people do change. People do change their political style, their political philosophy and the political outcomes that we want, you know its really up to us. We cant always look to the candidates. We will have the final say about who succeeds and who does not and those who want unity, those who want a different tone a different direction, the time to get involved is right now. Errol luis and ana navarro, i reach out to you often and ask for advice so i think youre one fantastic, incredibly brilliant person and im glad youre employed by cnn. Ana navarro and errol luisieu louis thanks so much. A manhunt is under way after a Shreveport Police officer was killed. He was responding to a call about a prowler. And what if this happened again . I was given warfarin in the hospital but i wondered if this was the right treatment for me. Then my doctor told me about eliquis. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. Not only does eliquis treat dvt and pe blood clots but eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. Knowing eliquis had both. Turned around my thinking. Dont stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling numbness, or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Eliquis treats dvt pe blood clots. Plus had less major bleeding. Both made switching to eliquis right for me. Ask your doctor if its right for you. While every business is unique everyone is looking for ways to cut expenses. We turn now to that hoff riff horrific attack in a nashville area movie ve tiertheater. Within minutes the man would be shot to death by police. Vincente David Montano pointed that weapon at them. It was a pellet gun but it looked like a real weapon. Montanos mother said he had a long history with mental illness. The man he struck with a hatchet offering this prayer moments after he was attacked. Im eternally grateful excuse me for metro Police Department for their Fast Response today and the fact that no one else got injured other than the person who did this. I would ask anyone to pray for his family because he obviously has some mental problems or something else. Nick valencia is in nashville this morning with more. Good morning. Reporter good morning, carol. Police in nashville being prased ed raised for their actions in preventing an incident that could have been much worse. The suspect identified as 29yearold vincente David Montano came into this Movie Theater. He purchased a ticket and then he proceeded to carry out his attack. He was armed with a pellet gun, an ax and wearing a surgical mask presumably to protect himself from the pepper spray he used to douse the patrons inside inside. Some of those frantic moments captured on 911 audio tape. I was in the Movie Theater a minute or two ago and this guy, this shady looking guy stood up with like two bags and he walked towards the back of the theater and he pulled out like a hatchet and started attacking this family and then he pulled out a gun and we all ran out of the theater. Reporter according to police montano has a lengthy history of Mental Health issues being committed in Mental Health institutions. He has a record of being checked in at the National Homeless institute but no record of him staying overnight. On monday his mother filed a missing persons report telling police he was a diagnosed schizophrenic and had a hard time taking care of himself. Nick valencia thank you. It does make you wonder is it safe to go to a movie. It happened on the heels of what happened in lafayette, louisiana. Here to talk about it is matthew, a former Police Officer. Should we be afraid to go to the movie . I dont think we should be afraid to go to the movies, but we should be aware of the current climate. As Security Professionals and practitioners, its our job to assess vulnerabilityies and make security plans that make sense to the public. Thats what you do for a living right now. So how do you do that in a Movie Theater . Remember security is a very touchy business. Its something Everyone Wants but someone has to fund and i dont know if america is ready for magnetometers as you go to Movie Theaters ready for screening processes. I dont know. Most Movie Theaters have Police Officers that work friday saturday sundays, high volume times. A lot of Movie Theaters employ the use of private security but right now i think america is going to take a good hard look at strengthening these soft targets. Yeah. Well is a way to strengthen a soft target to have somebody serve your bag . I cant even imagine that but should Movie Theaters do that . If you think about that look how far weve come since 9 11. Could we have ever imagined taking off our shoes and belts before we go through security checkpoints at airports . It very well may be the answer at some point. We have to reconsider our security and also remember this as we change our targets from soft to hard it leaves other soft targets vulnerable for things just like this. Okay. So there has been a suggestion that maybe people should be allowed to take guns into Movie Theaters . That is absolutely not the answer in my view. Just because you have a gun doesnt mean youre trained to use a gun. And its a dark theater and lets face it if somebody attacks somebody its difficult to get your bearings right . Youre watching a movie. It is absolutely difficult. If you look at what happened yesterday, the nashville metro Police Department responded but they train for incidents just like this. Theyre a fulltime team. They know what to do. They have the process down. If you look at the way that scene developed yesterday, it developed flawlessly. The Police Officers did exactly what they were trained to do and what they were supposed to do. They corralled him in a certain area and then there was a gunfight although we later find out this guys gun wasnt real which was strange. The whole thing is strange. Its strange but its coming out he may have had some mental issues. We were here two weeks ago and two weeks before that too little too late is becoming too often. Matthew horace thank you so much for stopping by. Have a great day. And good morning. Im carol costello. Thank you so much for joining me. This just in to cnn. One of the main negotiators of the Iran Nuclear Deal is leaving the state department. Wendy sherman will become a fellow at the Harvard Institute of politics. She will join the institute in early october. The u. S. Senate will take up that nuclear deal september 8th right after the august recess. A big concern for lawmakers, new satellite imagery suggesting the iranians are attempting to clean up a site ahead of international inspections. President obama warned that if Congress Rejects this deal though it could set the stage for another war in the middle east. That provoked some back and forth on twitter between the white house and congressional leaders. Steve scalise complained about the secret side deals, and the president fired back important detail there are no secret deals. My staff can brief you on any question about any part of the deal. Thats what the president tweeted. Here is cnns chief National Security correspondent jim sciutto. I am stating a fact. Reporter today the president made an impassioned, even Defiant Defense of the Iran Nuclear Deal attempting to dissuade skeptical lawmakers from blocking the agreement. I have had to make a lot of tough calls as president , but whether or not this deal is good for American Security is not one of those calls. Its not even close. Reporter but the skeptics got new ammunition today. Cnn has learned that the u. S. Intelligence community believes iran is attempting to clean up one of the most sensitive suspected nuclear sites. The military installation after satellite imagery showed heavy Construction Equipment including bulldozers. The president dismissed activity that iran can hide nuclear activity. Nuclear material isnt something you hide in the closet. It can leave a trace for years. The bottom line is if iran cheats we can catch them and we will. Reporter a Senior Intelligence official familiar with the imagery in question tells cnn that the iaea the International Agency responsible for inspecting Irans Nuclear sites, is, quote, familiar with sanitization efforts and the International Community has confidence in the iaess technical experience. Many lawmakers arent convinced. They take particular issue with the fact that theed a ed aadministration has not released details of agreements with iran and the iaea and wont confirm if u. S. Officials even read them. Why now will you not give us the documents that exist that are so important to all of us relative to the integrity of this why not . We dont have the documents in the first instance. We dont have them. So we dont have them to give to you. I didnt see the final documents. I saw the provisional documents as did my experts. Reporter for the president however, the choice remains clear. Lets not mince words. The choice we face is ultimately between diplomacy or some form of war. Maybe not tomorrow maybe not three months from now, but soon. Reporter jim sciutto, cnn, washington. Take control of your retirement today its been called the happy hour debate and the under card. Im talking about the Candidate Forum featuring seven republican president ial hopefuls who did not score well enough to the polls to get a spot in tonights prime time faceoff. One of the them is Rick Santorum. Hes pushing back on that format and the idea that poll results this early should have been a deciding factor. Here is what he told chris cuomo this morning. You can complain about how the rnc is doing it how fox is doing it in this first debate, but at the end of the day the polls do matter and youre not doing that well in the polls and neither is the group thats at 5 00 instead of at 9 00 and shouldnt that be relevant in deciding who is on and when if at all. Well chris, if two weeks before the Iowa Caucuses i was at 2 in the National Polls and i won the Iowa Caucuses and went on to win ten other states. Its not a predictor of anything. Its not a national race. Its a statebystate race. Again, thats what im focused on. Joining me now from cleveland, john brabender, a senior vis for Rick Santorums 2012 campaign and a republican political consultant. Glad to see you. Glad youre here. Glad i can be here. Thank you for having me on. Thanks for being here. So i heard what Rick Santorum said. On the other hand donald trump is not part of the happy hour debate and that means maybe people will actually listen to what the candidates have to say. Well i look at it a little bit differently. I look at that 5 00 debate and here is what i know. Were all talking about the iran deal maybe the most important issue facing america, and the two people tonight in a debate that have far more Foreign Policy experience than anybody else is Rick Santorum and lindsey graham. Were talking about job creation. The governor that probably has the best Success Story is rick perry in the early debate and Carly Fiorina is the only one in either debates thats run a fortune 50 company. You can always watch donald trump on reruns on the apprentice. I think the more substantial debate will probably be the 5 00 debate. I tend to agree with you because the candidates will also have a little more time to give their answers, right . Absolutely and i think it will be less confrontational. I think what will happen in the later debate somebody is going to be smart enough whose name is not donald trump to engage donald trump knowing thats whats going to be played over and over again tomorrow and the next day and the next day to do that to get their name in the news. It becomes a Reality Tv Show almost environment. I think in the first debate it will be more cooperative, more of a spirit of being together in this thing, but they will point out differences and i think it will be a very very insightful debate. Do you think this prime time debate will be ultimately bad for the president ial race and the gop . No i dont think so but i do think its so early. You know look four years ago at this time the leading people that were centering the debates were Michele Bachmann herman cain and tim pawlenty. Two of them didnt even make it to the iowa caucus and one didnt make it past the iowa caucus. It is really early, but i will say this i do think somebody like a donald trump who is way ahead who people know very little about needs to started being vetted and i think today is tonight will be the first process of that. What do you mean start being vetted . You mean by voters by who . You know, i made a joke on cnn the other night that if will ferrell got on the republican race tomorrow he might start at 10 because nobody knows anything other than hes a funny comedian. And, you know, in some sense, donald trump, the character, is running for president , but nobody has vetted him under the lens do we really want this person in the white house making decisions on trade, on manufacturing, on social issues on our National Defense . You know hes shown nothing in his history to show on many of those issues that hes capable and i think we have to find out. So when do you think donald trump will flame out . Well you know i dont know if flame out will be the word. I think you will find this hard core group of people who are mad at washington as mad as they can be and are willing to have a protest vet and say until we do something drastic like voting for donald trump were not getting anybodys attention. I think you will find he will always have a certain 10 or something in the polls, which will keep him credible all the way through. I also think what hes doing is hes motivating a certain republican voter who hopefully will stay engaged all the way through november of 2016. Well see. John brabender, thank you so much for being with me this morning. I appreciate it. Thank you. Yemoure welcome. New york city has it all, however knowing what to do or where to go can be a real dilemma. I step away from the anchor desk to show you some hidden gems. Welcome to Hells Kitchen new york. Its real. Three people found dead, beat with a hammer. Their throats slashed. Police say the gruesome murders could be tied to witchcraft and tied to last weeks blue moon. Alina machado has more. The elements of this case are odd at best. Reporter the violent deaths of an elderly woman and her two adult sons inside this escambia county, florida, home may be tied to witchcraft. The method of the murder Blunt Force Trauma slit throats, positions of bodies and then our person of interest has some ties to a faith and or religion that is indicative of that. Reporter the victims identified as 77yearold vansiel smith and 49yearold Richard Thomas smith. They were killed with a claw hammer they had their throats slit. Richard thomas also had a gunshot wound to the head. The crime scene was very complex and took several days to work. Reporter investigators have been talking to neighbors who say the family was very reclusive. Richard thomas smith worked for the department of homeland security. His position is not believed to be the reason why the family was targeted. There was a sizable amount of cash found at the house inside a safe that was not taken. So we believe that we can safely rule out robbery as the primary motive. Reporter so authorities are turning their attention to the possibility that what happened inside this house was part of a ritualistic killing and its not the first time weve heard of a case like this. Last year in houston a 15yearold girl was kidnapped and murdered. Her killers reportedly committed the crime during a satanic ritual. Authorities in florida meanwhile arent offering specifics on the type of beliefs or religion that could be behind the triple homicide but experts say ritualistic killings have very specific characters. The person has to be killed in a particular way, you know. Certain kind of injury has to be inflicted on each person. The buddies have to be put together in a particular way. Thats the nature of ritual. If you deviate from that formula, it ceases to be effective. Reporter authorities believe the victims were killed sometime last week on tuesday. Their bodies though werent found until friday. The timing they say coincides with last weeks blue moon but authorities have not said how. Also worth noting the sheriff says there were no signs of forced entry and that nothing appears to have been taken from the home. Authorities are asking anyone with information on this case to please come forward. Carol . Unbelievable. Alina machoado reporting live for us.
