Tape from isis, the terror group boasts of conquests on the battlefield and in its Online Campaign to recruit young jihadists and warriors. In western iraq the first u. S. Troops have arrived to bolster the regions fight against isis. About 50 military personnel are in Anbar Province to begin training iraqi and kurdish allies. Just last week president obama approved up to 1,500 u. S. Troops for that mission, essentially doubling the American Forces now in iraq. Cnns Barbara Starr is at the pentagon with the latest for thus morning. Good morning, barbara. Good morning, randi. Lets go back to that have you had we could for a moment, that is the latest video from isis, should be viewed as another propaganda video sources are telling me, this is what isis is so good at, taking their cameras out onto their front lines, recording a good deal of violence and gruesome activity, some we cannot show you. This message from isis is that they believe they have inevitable victory. They show this, it is intimidating. They believe this sends the message that they are winning. The coalition of course begging to differ. Those 50 american advisers now in Anbar Province west of baghdad, they are at a place called al assad airbase an iraqi airbase where they will be stationed to try and get ready for additional advisers to come to Anbar Province. Their job will not be combat, we are told. No combat role for them but they instead will help train iraqi forces to go back on the offense, to go against isis and try and push them back. This will be very tough going. I think one indication of just how dangerous this may be for u. S. Troops, a good deal of them will be involved in what the military calls force protection, protecting other troops, protecting u. S. Military advisers from possible attack. Randi . All right, Barbara Starr, appreciate it, thank you very much for the update from there. Washington is also keeping a close eye on its nato ally ukraine, where the tensions with russia are spiking. Demonstrators blocked acapulcos airport and fought with police. Things are back to norm tlal this morning, but several flights were canceled yesterday. Mexicos attorney general believes the 43 students were kidnapped, murdered and dumped in a river. But when he signed off on a News Conference by saying enough, im tired, that enraged many mexicans. The students disappeared in southern mexico on september 26th, and cnns rosa flores joins us now more. Reporter randi, good morning. The parents of these missing students have made one thing very clear, that they will get more and more radical. Let me tell you something, they are keeping at their word. We have seen burned cars, charred buildings and yesterday for a few hours, the crippling of the acapulco airport. More than 1,000 outraged protesters take to the streets of acapulco facing Law Enforcement at the international airport. A show of defiance in response to the disappearance of 43 students in southern mexico, all 43 lives were abruptly interrupted by what authorities call an organized criminal ring involving the mayor, his wife, the police chief, and drug traffickers. The students were on this highway headed towards iguala, they belonged to an all male Teachers College thats known for protesting against the government. City mayor didnt want them in town and ordered the police chief to stop the students according to authorities. This is where the plot thickens. The last place these 43 students were seen alive. I want to show you this wall, because you can still see bullet holes, what federal Authorities Say could be possible clues of an ambush by local police who would later turn over students to a cartel. Four days after the students went missing, Officials Say igualas mayor and wife went underground because investigators were eyeing them. They evaded police for more than five weeks until they were finally arrested. Federal Authorities Say that three Cartel Members confessed to driving up this road which leads to a public dump for fercula a nearby city, driving two trucks filled with about 40 people. Then federal Authorities Say that the bodies were dropped to the bottom of this pit and set on fire. Video confessions released by federal authorities revealed the remains were placed in plastic bags and taken to the san juan river. According to authorities the suspects came to this river and emptied out most of those black plastic bags except for one. That one was found sealed. According to officials the remains are inan advanced state of decomposition and i. D. ing them will be difficult. Those remains will be i. D. d out of austria. Experts have looked for the best labs around the world and theyve determined that they will send those remains in austria. No word yet on when results will be coming back here to mexico. Randi . Rosa flores for us in mexico, thank you. Checking top stories now, look closely and you will see right here a car poking out of that gaping hole of what used to be a driveway. Neighbors in holiday, florida, say it took only about 15 minutes for the hole to grow from a divot to swallowing the car. No one was hurt but several nearby trailers have been evacuated over concern the sinkhole could grow. In south korea a panel of judges sentenced a ferry captain to 36 years in jail, the court acquitted of murder. Families demanded a murder conviction because the captain jumped to safety even as passengers were trapped inside that dooms vessel. In hawaii a river of lava destroyed its first home. Residents had long since evacuated and cleared out their belongings ahead of the eruption of the kilauea volcano. The lava had been inching closer over the past four and a half months. Well, are you feeling the chill yet . If you havent, chances are you will and soon. It is all because of the weather system that literally shifted the path of the jet stream and opened the door for winter conditions like this one in michigan to come rushing down from canada into the u. S. Not even midnovember but hey, it feels like mid winter for much of the country. This is south dakota where the frigid weather moved in fast. Temperatures dropped 37 degrees in a matter of minutes in some places and they are waking up to singledigit temperature there is this morning. Indra petersons joining me to talk a little bit more about this. Look at wisconsin, is wisconsin going to get hit . Well give you a live shot. Green bay seeing flurries coming down. Wisconsin and minnesota saw over a foot of snow already where typically thats what they see in an entire month they saw that in a couple of days. Everyone talks about what does this have to do with the typhoon . Well show you. We have the huge typhoon nuri, a super typhoon off the coast of japan. The remnants made their way into the bering sber the bering sea and interacted with the jet stream, became this monster storm and whipped the jet stream like this so that Ripple Effect brought the jet diving way down to the south and thats the reason were talking about winter so early, this bitter cold is washing in many places yesterday as that High Pressure dome moved down to the south, some places like wyoming and colorado saw a 40degree temperature drop in two hours, so today the question is where are you on the map . If youre east of the cold front youre happy. Youre seeing temperatures warm today but behind the cold front is where all the action is, thats where that cold air continues to dive down. Florida 80s today. Lot of places only seeing Single Digits when you talk about the dakotas and out through montana. Look at the temperature drop for one day, 40 degrees even as far south as the south. So thats what were dealing with as this cold air will continue to push east. Look at the windchills, places well below zero. Rapid city feels like 12 below. The next four days you can see what is coming your way, keep in mind we talked about this yesterday, randi, temperatures are going to stay cold for a while because this is only wave one. There will be two rounds of cold air coming our way. Excited yet . Rapid city 12 below, huh, not where you want to be today. Indra, thank you, appreciate it. We need the world to know whats going on in ferguson and we need justice. We need answers and we need action. And we have to bring it to the union so they can expose it to the rest of the world whats going none mall town ferguson. This was letly mcspadden speaking in geneva switzerland. They said the shooting death of their unarmed son by a White FergusonPolice Officer and the way police treated protesters in the days after his killing violated the u. N. s antitorture convention. In a 13page statement they said the United States must take steps to address the torture and or cruel inhumane and degrading treatment of Michael Brown and other black and brown persons killed by Law Enforcement. While browns parents are all the way in geneva. Back home in ferguson people are preparing for the worst as a grand jury gets closer to reaching its decision. It could decide any day now whether to indict Darren Wilson a white Police Officer in the shooting death of an unarmed black teen. The big concern if wilson is not indicted the town will explode once again like it did are brown was gunned down in early august. Its really a volatile situation based upon, you know, if hes indicted or not. People are pretty upset and feel like justice, if hes not that justice may have been derailed. Attorney Benjamin Crump is representing browns family and he is live in tallahassee, florida, with us this morning. Good morning, ben. You just heard from this ferguson resident. How concerned are you about more violence if officer wilson is not indicted . Well, the parents and our legal representatives put on record, randi, we want people to be able to exercise their american constitution First Amendment rights but we want them to do so in a nonviolent, construct tough way, but we do expect people to react as americans, not just africanamericans, but all americans, because this process certainly needs to be fixed. The prosecutor meanwhile is saying that he is unlukely to file charges on his own or convene another grand jury if this one does decide not to indict. How do you feel about that . Thats what i was saying, i say this process needs to be fixed. There is a problem with this process that is toward pliolice officers with alleged brutality on people of color. Thats why Michael Browns parents were in geneva testifying how their child was executed in broad daylight and had his hands up in the universal sign of surrender and he was laid out in the baking hot son for hours with blood pooling from his head and as tragic as this sounds, this incidence of Police Brutality on people of color happen over and over again in america and the system continues to sweep their deaths under the rug and exonerate these Police Officers for killing our children. So there has to be an american response that we have to do better. Getting pack to the grand jury, attorney general eric holder sent a message to the ferguson grand jury leakers to be quiet. Do you think thats going to have any effect on the leaks coming out of there . Well, i dont know, because i think people who leak information do it for ulterior motives and obviously the people who leaked this information in this process that we object to. We dont believe there ever should have been this secret proceeding of this grand jury. It should have been transparent as the american constitution says and people would accept it more, randi, if it was transparent, where we could trust the system that it works equally for everybody. Theres a great air of mistrust in ferguson as many cities of america, when people of color are killed by the police, you have the secret proceedings by these prosecutors who work with the police day ain and day out. You can predict the outcome and thats what people are so concerned about in ferguson and thats why people are reacting so hard. Meanwhile youre in tallahassee, Michael Browns parents are far away in geneva. Do you think either of you are going to get a heads up before the grand jurys decision is announced and are they bracing for the response from the grand yo jury . We certainly expect to. That would be the decent thing to do, to let the parents know that a decision is out before the rest of the world hears of it, but more so the parents have continuously said that they want people to respond peacefully and construct toughly, and they do want people to respond. Make no mistake about it. They greatly, greatly want justice for their child, any parent would want justice for their child who was killed in such a tragic manner. And do you plan to travel to ferguson by the time this grand Jury Announcement is announced . Yes. You do. Ill be in ferguson this evening, yes. Benjamin crump, thank you for your time this morning. Thank you. And coming up later this hour, we will talk with former new York City Police commissioner Bernard Kerik about the best way for police to handle the situation if officer wilson is not indicted. An attorney for Melissa Rivers says shes is outranged over the report finding major violations by the clin thaek treated her mother. Federal agency cited numerous mistakes made prior to joan rivers death including failure to identify deteriorating vital signs. Jean casarez studied the report and joins me with more. This is the first time weve had detailed alleged facts, according to this report by the department of health and Human Services but as you listened to what the findings are, the devil is in the details. A probe into the manhattan clinic where famed comedian joan rivers was treated before her death reveals that they made mistakes. 22page report issued by the centers for medicare and Medicaid Services found a list of errors including a staff member snapping a photo of rivers while she was sedated violating the facultys policy on use of personal cellphones in any patient areas. The cms report quotes that staff member as saying maybe patient number one would like to see this in the recovery area. Rivers name is not mentioned in the cms report and cms would not confirm the person referred to only as patient number one is rivers. However the report matches the date, circumstances, and age of the late comedian. Other disturbing details outlined by cms details found the clinic failed to identify rivers deteriorating vital signs and failed to consistently document the dose of the sedative propofol, failed to get rivers informed consent for each procedure informed and failed to ensure she was cared for by only authorized physicians. Yorkville endoscopy addressed the report in a statement in response to the statement of deficiencies, yorkville immediately submitted and implemented a plan of correction that addressed all issues raised. How are you doing, melissa . Were so sorry. Reporter Melissa Rivers lawyers addressed the finding saying miss rivers is outraged by the misconduct and mismanagement now shown to have occurred before, during and after the procedure. Now her lawyers say melissa working toward ensuring what happened to her mother doesnt occur with any other patient. And Yorkville Endoscopy is admitting certain practices they did not do but the ultimate facts they are not admitting at all. Lets talk about the anesthesiologists. It was determined the amounts of propoe follow were not monitored correctly. Which can be deadly. As we know from michael jackson. The anesthesiologist came back according to this report and redid the report saying it wasnt 300, it was 120 but my finger pressed two times the button, she went on to say at that point her own personal physician, joan rivers, was here, and actually performed two procedures that was not originally planned, and there was no implied consent, meaning joan had signed off saying lets do this procedure. Furthermore she talked about the fact that photos were taken, that a staff doctor, the scope doctor actually took his camera, according to the report, and took pictures of a is he dated joan rivers and her own personal ent doctor saying that joan will probably want to look at this when she comes to. My goodness. As you mentioned also the pulse down to 47 and they continued the procedure. Thats right. When she started the procedure 118 over 80 was her blood pressure, pulse 62. As they kept going and its documented so there was documentation that it got down to pulse being 47 and the procedure was still going on. Thank you for bringing us that. Christine romans, thank you very much. How did a family of four that vanished in 2010 from their fallbrook, california, home end up dead and buried in shallow graves in the Mojave Desert . Investigators may be getting close to solving the murders of joseph and summer mcstay and their two sons. Last week Police Arrested a 57yearold man, a Business Partner and friend of the mcstay family. Long before he was arrested that suspect sat down with me for a twohour interview, his only oncamera interview and now the father of Joseph Mcstay is speaking out to us as well. Heres what they told me in a story youll see only on cnn. And he knew that if something happened reporter we met Patrick Mcstay at his home in houston days after learning of an arrest in his sons murder, this is his First Television interview since sheriffs deputies said they had merritt in custody. Did you get a sense of relief when you heard that name . A lot of people will say its like lifting a ton off your shoulders. I said no, it was more to me like a boulder falling on me. Reporter thats because patricks son considered Chase Merritt a friend. Joseph mcstay sold custom waterfalls and merritt was one of his welders. Do you think that Chase Merritt is capable of Something Like this . After all ive seen through the years and the information we found, i still cant say, i can definitely say i wonder. Reporter Patrick Mcstay has been waiting nearly five years to find out who killed his family. It was february 4th, 2010 when Joseph Mcstay, his wife summer, and their two beautiful, young boys, joseph and giani, disappeared. Their remains were found a year ago, buried in two shallow graves in the Mojave Desert. Investigators say they died from blunt force trauma. In our exclusiveber view with merritt earlier this year, he shared that the gravesite is just 20 miles from his home. Would you ever have expected this is how it would end in the desert like that . In the desert, i had no clue. Reporter we played some of our twohour interview with merritt for Patrick Mcstay. Very visible from the freeway. I hear him telling you and describing the area perfectly, telling you he knows that area really well. Reporter on that final day, merritt told us hed met Joseph Mcstay for what he described as a business lunch, and that they talked by phone a dozen times later that day. You were the last person he saw. Im definitely the last person he saw. Reporter that night in 2010 at 8 28 p. M. Merritt says his phone rang, that it was joseph calling from his cell phone but merritt didnt answer, he says, because he was too tired, a statement now raising eyebrows among those who followed the case closely. The rest of joeys existence was phone calls, Text Messages so if i want to make you look like youre alive for several hours, im going to take your phone, im going to text, im going to call myself. Reporter during our interview, merritt also revealed to us he had taken a Lie Detector Test soon after the mcstays disappeared. He said he never got the results from authorities. Did detectives ask you if you killed Joseph Mcstay and his family . I dont recall them asking me that. Reporter nothing that direct . Hmm . Reporter nothing directly . No, i dont recall them being that direct. Reporter if Chase Merritt did kill the mcstay family, patrick pc stay suspects it had to do with money. Joseph had landed a waterfall deal worth 9 million so merritt stood to mac a lot of cash. Merritts work had gotten sloppy and joseph was in the market for another welder. Tra patrick said he last spoke with merritt earlier this year. Looking back he thinks merritt was digging to find out what patrick knew about the murders. Patrick hasnt seen or spoken to him since. What would you ask him . I wouldnt ask him anything. There would be one person coming out of that room. Reporter i want to bring in paul callan, cnn legal analyst and crimmal defense attorney as well as a former prosecutor. Lot to talk about here in this case with you. The suspect, Chase Merritt, he has a couple of felony conviction, nothing violent, though. How much will his previous record play in terms of the evidence brought against him . Well, i think it plays heavily in terms of looking at somebody who could engage, if hes guilty, in an act of this level of violence, two children having been killed, the police i know believe it was a Blunt Force Instrument that may have been used in the killings. That wouldnt suggest somebody who just did this for the first time in adulthood. You would think pathologically and psychologically there would be a history of violence. What about the fact as we mentioned in the story that Patrick Mcstay thinks that his son was about to cut Chase Merritt, the suspect, out of the business. He had this huge 9 million deal for waterfalls, Chase Merritt was one of his welders and thinks maybe his son was looking for another welder. How much of their business dealings would be brought into court . That will be a major component. In any murder prosecution the jury is always looking for motive. Nobody kills four people unless theyre, you know, completely insane without some triggering motive, so i think the business angle is very, very important, and if the police manage to develop that as a reason for the killing, i think it will be an important component. Case like this probably lacks any eyewitnesses and its going to be put together brick by brick throughsirkial evidence and motive is much more important in a circumstantial murder of the prosecution. San diego authorities were handling this case before San Bernardino took it over. They thought maybe there was more than one person involved. Now theyre saying in San Bernardino its only him. It will fly his benefit because a Standard Defense used in a case like this is sort of blaming somebody else. Youre obviously saying my client is innocent and the murder must have been done by somebody else and if Police Authorities in some way support that theory by saying we were actually looking at somebody else, it can be use bid a clever and talented defense attorney to create reasonable doubt in a homicide prosecution. If Chase Merritt did do this, he created an alibi for himself. He was home that night, got a call from Joseph Mcstay at 8 28 p. M. On his cellphone. How will that play . Is that good evidence in his favor because it did ping off the cell tower near his home. So the phone was there. Yes, its a very helpful piece of evidence, and id have to see more to see if you could stage Something Like this, and of course technologically, you can do a lot of things. To me, randi, the most astou astounding thing is that you managed to interview him for, it was a twohour interview. Twohour interview. A suspect in a murder case to submit to a twohour interview. It was before he was arrested. I understand that, but you have to be, youve committed a crime of this magnitude youre going to be xro extraordinarily careful not to reveal anything and a twohour interview its astounding he would have submitted to that. I think it may be an indication if if he is, in fact, the murderer that hes a psychopath and that he just is drawn to the attention and maybe that will be his downfall in the end. The experts have said that if that is the case, he would want to put himself in the middle of it and control the story. So well see what happens as it unfolds. Paul callan thank you, appreciate it. Always a pleasure. Of course we want to mention that you can watch buried secrets and see the suspects interview tonight 9 00 p. M. Eastern on cnn. E financial noise financial noise financial noise financial noise any day now a ferguson grand jury could reach a decision on whether to indict the white Police Officer who shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown, that has police in ferguson gearing up for whats to come if officer Darren Wilson is not indicted. Some residents andis with owners are preparing and in some cases buying up weapons. So maybe i get trapped here or something, we have to have john wayne shootout, you know . Thats the silly part about it. You know, is that going to happen . Not a chance. But i guess could it, because you know, im the only white person here. Large groups of individuals that ive never known to be, be shooters or be sportsmen. Reporter theyre going out and buying weapons . Now that the plus side of it is, everyone went out and took a training class and tried to learn the law. Former new York City Police commissioner Bernard Kerik joins know now. One gun shop said sales are up about 50 . How concerning should this be to police there in ferguson . Well, i mean its always got to be a concern. I honestly, i dont think thats going to become an issue. I think the police have a job to do. Theyre going to keep the Community Safe and secure. I think they may have learned, they should have learned from the response their initial response in ferguson which was initially an overresponse and i think some of the things theyve done since with the community may help, i think the problem that ferguson is going to have is the outside, you know, people that come in and want to create all this havoc, thats where the police are going to have problems i think. Youve certainly dealt with bigger cities. Ferguson is a much smaller town. If you were in charge, how would you be preparing for this grand jury decision to come down . Well first and foremost, i think its a lot of interaction with the community, the community leaders, training with the Police Departments that are going to be responding. There has to be an adequate response, there cant be an overresponse. They may have to have a strategic offset sites where they stage police in the event that things do get out of hand, but i hopefully, everybody has learned from the first time around, and when the grand jury comes out, people take it for what its worth and i believe you may have protests on either side, whether the officer is indicted or not indicted. What about all the money the guardian is reporting that st. Louis county police have tspent tens of thousands of rye yriot gear, topped 172,000 since august. Do you think thats excessive or necessary . Listen, the gear, the riot gear and the equipment and resources, the cops have to do their job, to stay safe and to secure the city is extremely important. Its expensive. Its expensive for ferguson, not only ferguson but any city and they have to have adequate resources. Hopefully it will be peaceful demonstrations. I heard the family and mr. Crump, the attorney for the family earlier calling for peaceful demonstrations, and hopefully people listen to them. Bernard kerik, appreciate your time. Thank you. Thank you, maam.
