Raeighlynn and taylor. We are loving our Country Music and love our family and you cant do that to us and all of our family. How dare you . Thank you, ladies. Lets move on. Top of the hour. Youre watching cnn and im Brooke Bolduan and this is live coverage of this sickening tragedy in modern u. S. History. We now know 58 people have been killed and 515 others have been injured. At 10 00 last night local time in las vegas, the sound of the Country Music that united all these people, these young girls we just talked to was silenced and replaced with gun fire. [ shots fired ] again, 10 00 in the evening local time. The headliner jason aldean, he was on stage in front of of a crowd of about 22,000 people. A lot of young people, a lot of children. This is the route 91 Harvest Festival where the shooter, 64yearold Stephen Paddock of mesquite, nevada, smashed through a window and started firing from the 32nd floor of the mandalay right there killing himself before officers stormed his hotel room. It was there in that hotel room where Police Found Evidence of premeditated mass murder, a stockpile of weapons, at least ten rifles to begin to explain this barrage of unrelenting gun fire. [ screaming ] [ shots fired ] [ bleep ]. Get down oh, my god [ shots fired ] i remember just getting around this cop car and hearing bullets whizzing and just bouncing, like oh, like, on the ground nearby and these girls the center will now observe a moment of silence for the victims of the attack in las vegas. Majority leader . Majority leader . The news we awoke to this morning was heartbreaking. What happened in las vegas is shocking. Its tragic and for those affected and their families, its devastating. Its hard to even imagine their pain. I hope they will know that we are praying for them now. I hope they will find strength in the love and kindness of those around them in these hours of such darkness and pain. I hope they will see that our country is staying by their side today. Many americans are still in shock. Others have begun to wonder why someone would do something this terrible. Investigators will continue their dedicated work in search of answers, but what is clear now is that this is a moment for National Mourning and for prayer. Just a moment ago President Trump led the country in observing a moment of silence. As he noteded th this morning w all grateful for the courageous efforts of the First Responders. They always put their lives on the line to save others. They do so with selflessness and reminds us of the inherent courage and mercy that remains possible within each of us. Life amidst the dark, in times of terrible grief. The same is true of the National Spirit of compassion that shines through our country in the moments when it is needed most. Whether its lining up to donate blood or signing up to volunteer their time, our fellow americans are always there to offer what they can when others are in need. We thank these americans and Law Enforcement and the First Responders for everything they have done. We thank them for their efforts that continue. We again, send our condolences to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. All right. Keeping an eye there on capitol hill. Again, 58 dead from this Country Music festivalturnedwar zone. That is how one eyewitness described it to me just this afternoon, and now its become this staging ground for body recovery and identification. The president today calling the shooting an act of pure evil and says he will travel to las vegas wednesday. Our unity cannot be shattered by evil. Our bonds cannot be broken by violence and though we feel such great anger at the senseless murder of our fellow citizens, it is our love that defines us today, and always will forever. The shooters brother is talking, insisting that this killer never showed any signs of violence, says their father was some bank robber on the fbi most wanted list for a time and this is what the brother told reporters just a short time ago. Were trying to understand whats wrong, what happened. We have no more idea what happened now than we had an hour ago. Im were still just completely befuddled, dumbstruck. As i told them the last time i communicated with my brother was about when did we get power back . Five days after the storm, okay . He texted me and said how is mom . I texted him back. Look what happened . My mom knows what happened. We all found out when our phones started ringing with the cops at 1 00 this morning or so. He had nothing to do with any political organization, religious organization. No white supremacist nothing as far as i know, and ive only known him for 57 years. Your father was a bank robber . Thats correct. I mean, here were not proud. My father was on the top ten list for a while. His name is Benjamin Hoskins paddock i believe is his name. I didnt know him. We didnt know him. Theres no he was in jail and broken out of jail. Does he have a history at all he doesnt even have parking tickets he has no criminal record. He has no record of any affiliations. He has nothing. What about Mental Illness . Absolutely not, as far as i know. Once again, nothing like that. He was a wealthy guy and he liked to play video poker. He went on cruises. He he sent his mother cookies from i mean, big, huge, crazy boxes of cookies and stuff. Shimon prokupecz is working this angle. Hes our rhyme acrime and justi reporter. The dad was on the fbis most wanted list as a bank robber. What else do we know about this man . Right now we know a lot, right . Law enforcement, the sheriff there in nevada has put out a lot of different information about the suspect and about the shooter and his homes. He owned several homes and was associated with several homes, up to about five different locations that Law Enforcement, police, and the fbi have either been to or are searching and several of them in the nevada area. Theyve been to the brothers home in orlando. Theyve also been to a home out in los angeles. So theyre really, Law Enforcement, and the fbi and the local authorities there in nevada are really trying to piece together what led to this because from all of the sources that we talked to so far, none of them have indicated that they even know of what the motive is here as much as its baffling to the shooters family and really to the country right now as to what led to this. Law enforcement is really baffled, as well. The shooter is associated has had some association with a woman, perhaps maybe his girlfriend who was not in the country at the time of the shooting. Shes believed to be in the philippines, and police have talked to her. We dont know what she said, but i think our understanding from her what Law Enforcement is trying to figure out is perhaps his mind. What was he thinking . What was going on in his head leading up to this shooting . Because thats still a key part of this investigation. Seemingly, pretty welltodo man, the shooter. He had some property. He had some money. He was known to gamble. So its not like we are learning that there was anything that sort of troubled him. We certainly have not heard of any Mental Illness that is associated with him, any political views. All very still puzzling, brooke, here for Law Enforcement as theyre continuing to really put all of this together as to why this happened. Shimon, thank you. Keep digging, keep us updated on that piece of it, but a lot of these concert goers who escaped this madness described the unrelenting southbound of the gun fire and initially having no idea what it was and no idea where it was coming from and that includes my next guest. Alexandra jones. She and her friends were standing near the stage when they realized they were in danger. Alexandra, thank you so much for being here and so crazy, traumatic to go through. You were, im sure, very shaken up by this. How are you feeling . How are your friends . Were all a little shake sen, obviously. Its been a crazy few hours, 12, actually, and right now were all at home obviously. My friends are with their families. Its sort of surreal right now to think what happened. It doesnt it hasnt hit me yet, i think in the next few days it will, absolutely. You were just to the left of the stage enjoying jason aldean and then when did you realize what actually was happening . It was probably when the music cut off. What i heard at first to me sounded it could have been fireworks. I was thinking, oh, maybe a helicopter is coming overhead which it had been the entire weekend, and as soon as i saw the music stop and heard the music stop and people started running was when the light bulb clicked on and we realized we need to get out of here and one of my other friends, she told us to run. I grabbed the other one by her hand and we just we bolted to the side of the venue and ran out of the gates, jumped over fences and everyone was just in a panic and its not lost on me that we were one of the lucky ones because we were on the edge of the large group of people that were there, the 20,000 people that were there last night. I keep hearing from people like you saying they ran with crowds. You know, when the crowd got up everyone got up or when the crowd raced out, everyone raced out. They were afraid to be alone and in view of the shooter. Yeah, and it was even more terrifying not knowing exactly where the shooter was. My First Impression was he was in the crowd or she. At the time i really thought he was in the crowd. It wasnt until after we were safe in a hotel watching the news realizing that he was in mandalay. How did you get out then . Who helped you . We it was me and one of my friends were running and we kind of got separated from our other two friends and just Good Samaritans along the way. We had one gentleman who said hey, come here let me help you over this fence because everything was locked. We couldnt get to the Hotel Property straight away, so this guy helped us over a fence and we just kept running. Two amazing people, this wonderful couple, alexis and michael, i dont know where you are, but thank you so much. They ran with us into Hooters Hotel and we just tried to calm ourselves down, make our phone calls and we all huddled in our hotel room for hours until we could figure out what was going on, but it was just the kindness of everyone who was there that helped us get away from the madness and helped us find our other friends. Im sure, was the first phone call to your family . Can you just tell me about that phone call and what you said . It was my first phone call was to my dad. I was definitely crying, and it was a phone call i never imagined i would ever make, but because the service was in and out he didnt really understand what i was saying. He was saying what happened . Because probably 20 minutes before i called him freaking out that i lost my i. D. And hes thinking oh, maybe shes, you know, freaking out about this, but when he realized what was going on, he was, like, okay, do you want us to go get you and he and my mom drove up last night about 12 00, 11 00 and picked us up about 4 00 a. M. And we got home a couple of hours ago. What a difference 20 minutes can make and im so glad youre okay. Alexandra jones, thank you so much for the time. I know your family is happy to have you back. Thank you. Im so sorry. Thank you. We as were talking about those who were injured and those killed we now can confirm the identity of at least one of the 58 killed in this massacre in las vegas. Sonny melton was from tennessee. He was a registered nurse. His wife heather is an Orthopedic Surgeon and she was with him at the time and she survived the shooting and with an estimated 515 people injured a lot of people in the crowd as you heard alexandra talk about, total strangers helping one another becoming sudden First Responders and using tshirts as tourniquets and i want to show you this one picture. Look at this. It is a luggage cart from a hotel used do you see this girl on it dangling off now as a makeshift stretcher. Cnns stephanie e lamb outside the University Medical center and the only Medical Center in the entire state of nevada. What are you hearing about the victims because gunshot wounds, that is challenging for doctors and nurses. Reporter well, the good thing, brooke, if you can find a Silver Lining this center trains for this, and at no point were they overwhelmed by the number of patients and we are talking about 104 patients that came here, some by ambulance, some by taxis and some by private vehicles coming for the ascension and care that they needed and their first goal was to go ahead and to stop the death process, to save those people that they could and they said at one point they had more surgeons lined up, ready to perform surgeries than they needed at one time. So they were prepared for the response that was here. They still have 12 patients in Critical Condition. What they are seeing because this is the only levelone hospital in the region is that theyre seeing some other hospitals that took in patients that perhaps they had someone that needed special care, some of those patients are being transferred over here. We have another hospital that was close to the strip at sunrise hospital. They took in 180 patients, 14 of those patients did pass away and they probably had some 30 surgeries that they conducted and another hospital system, the st. Rose dominican Dignity Health system and they had three hospitals in the region and they had 55 patients that they took in and they said they had four that remained in Critical Condition and in talking to the two surgeons that i had a chance to speak with here. They said that the injuries just really run the gamut from the gun wounds and from the trampling wounds and scrapes and major lacerations and people trying to get over fences because of the situation of having 22,000 people in the dark at the end of a night of a big concert like this. People didnt know where they were going so the wounds are all over the place and people running trying to get out and some people got hit by cars, they said and theyve seen that here at this hospital, as well. So theyre working around the clock to make sure these patients are getting the care that they need and even the patients that are in Critical Condition now that seem to have stabilized and theyre always concerned about them and theyre always monitoring them, but it was definitely a very tense, involved situation inside of the emergency room and once they got in the operating room it was all calm and thats when the training took over, brooke. This now has to be a drill for hospitals, but so grateful that it was and that this Medical Center was prepared, stephanie elam, please keep us updated. Coming up here we will piece together how exactly the shooting unfolded and well look at the timeline and what eventually led police to the gunman on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Hotel. Would you believe it was a smoke alarm playing a key role here, and you will hear the moment right before police break down his door to get in. Stay with me. Im Brooke Bolduan. And we are back. Youre watching cnns special live coverage of the deadliest shooting in modern u. S. History. We are now hearing from the shooters brother who lives in terror da. It turns out their father who died a couple of years ago was a wellknown robber, and heres the brother on how their family is struggling to make sense of why he would do this. Our condolences go out to all of the people involved here. An asteroid just landed on us and las vegas, as far as were concerned. We have no idea. Does your brother live there or here . This is all in the public record. He lives in mesquite. Okay. He had a girlfriend. Okay. He gambled in casinos. He called his mother just was there any indication at all that this nothing. Were lost. I dont understand it makes theres no anything. Describe the brother you know. Describe the man you know. Hes a guy. Hes just a guy who lived in las vegas and played at the casinos, went on cruises, did stuff. Theres no theres nothing. Thats whats bizarre. How did you hear that he was we got phone calls from las vegas called, and were cooperating with the cops. We have talked to the p. D. , we this is like you called me up and said your nextdoor neighbor did this and id go, wow. My nextdoor neighbor did that, all ive ever seen him do is mow his yard. The fact that my brother did this is theres no theres nothing. Your message to these people, these families . Theres not even anything i can say. I mean, im how do you i mean, my brother did this. I this is like it was done, you know, like he shot us. I mean if hed have killed my kids i couldnt be more dumbfounded. I mean it doesnt theres nothing. The last communication theres nothing. I can show you the text. He said hows mom . Did you get power . I mean that was it. Theres absolutely, we have like i said, we have nothing for you. I mean, i hope someone finds out and figures out because wed like to know. Were you a close family . He seemed like a good son. He was checking on your mom. I live here and he lives in mesquite and once again, public records stuff youll find out. Were not that close. We talk on the phone occasionally. He calls my mom and talks to her, theres no theres no there there. Mental Health Issues . Not that we know of. I mean i mean, he was did you know him to have guns . Not an avid gun guy at all. The fact that he had those kinds of weapons just where the hell did he get automatic weapons . Hes not he has no military background or anything like that. I mean, when you find out about him, like i said, hes just a guy who lived in a house in mesquite and drove down and gambled in las vegas. Were shocked i mean, you think its a joke except that it came all five of my phones and the house and the cells all lit up at the same time i would have thought it was one of my friends joking. I mean, when you get a phone call that says your brother, you know, just killed a bunch of people. All right. Lets start there, i have cnn Counter Terrorism analyst phil mud who served in the cia and fbi and cnn Law Enforcement analyst jonathan walkrow, former secret Service Agent for president obama. So lets go off of what the brother said and phil, let me start with you on that. The brother is saying i live far from him. My brother recently texted about checking in on my mom weathering Hurricane Irma and sends her a bunch of cookies. Theres nothing on him. What are you thinking if youre investigating the shooting. From an investigate of perspective, a im not watching this and this im discounting it. I want to know emails. I want to know interviews, Friends Family not only to determine what everyone is talking about motivation, but to determine whether somebody knew, whether someone participated and one in a million chance is there some other threat out there that we need to worry about in the coming days. Public dimension says nobody knew anything. Investigative dimension says we have a lot of ts to cross before we can confirm that. Okay. The brother also said he wasnt an avid gun guy. No military background and this is the reporting we have. Evan perez says ten or more firearms were found in this guys hotel room. So far they believe the firearms were purchased legally. If any of the rifles were altered in order to function as an automatic weapon. What does that tell you when you hear that constant pop, pop, pop . Obviously that the rate of fire is that the Weapons Systems were modified to be fully automatic. That is something they believe was confirmed earlier that the guns were modified. The statement earlier to your point as this investigation continues, a different optic of this individual will come out. The brother is saying one thing. Hes not a gun guy. Well, someone who is not a gun guy doesnt go into a hotel with ten, 12 shoulderfired weapons with hundreds of rounds of ammunition, you know, just on a whim. This was premeditated. Been there since thursday on the right side of the mandalay facing the parking lot. Exactly. As this investigation carries forward, the true motivation of this individual will come out and we will start seeing why this happened and, you know, we owe it to the victims to provide that answer for them. I want to come back to you guys on the piece about the Smoke Detector and i have dan simon who is live up there for us now and on the investigation in las vegas and i understand you have new detail about he was standing from the 32nd floor shooting down 400 yard away at this music festival, what are you learning . I actually just spoke to an eyewitness who was there actually working the festival and he says given where the shooter was, they were at a completely defenseless position. There was nothing they could do given that the shooter had the birdseye view. Brooke, were learning that the shooter in addition to this large cache of weapons and ammunition, he also had a hammer with him and apparently used that to bust out the windows just prior to the shooting. Brooke, excuse me, we are on the south end of the famous las vegas strip. This is still roped off by police and you can see the mandalay off in the background, and we are told that investigators are done searching the actual hotel room and theyre done searching the 32nd floor of the hotel and now the focus is on the venue itself. Authorities are there going through all of the evidence they can find and they have the grim task of identifying the bodies. Thank you. Turning back to you all. This guy is not only walking into this Mandalay Hotel and thank goodness, we have to assume there were cameras everywhere with ten or so gun, rifles and a hammer and gets in this hotel room and you know, the housekeeping staff show up at some point and they dont notice anything suspicious and weve been to vegas. This is one of those mega hotels that the room numbers are in the five digits. What are the questions the hotel should have been asking or should be asking . Im not sure there are many. The first is do you train personnel to search for activity in the room and did he store these . How long did he have them in the room . I dont think well get into a situation where you can go to a city like las vegas, in the one and 5 million chance that Something Like this happens in a hotel room, or one in every 50 million, lets train every person to identify behavior. Its just not reasonable. People will say it in the coming days. I dont buy it. Also not reasonable what your job is, if it were president obama in front of the mandalay, you would have cleared the rooms and its not possible. Its not possible in a public event like this. You know, the construct for the secret service was drastically different than a concert like this. Secret service utilizes countersnipers that are actually looking for this type of activity high up within the buildings. Its a game of angles. Its just not a reasonable construct for a private event and to be that level of mitigation happening to a private event. Let me take everyone to the moment when the police realize when this shooting was coming from from the 32nd floor of the mandalay. You can hear them yell breach roll it. Be aware to get back and we have to see if we get any sort of response from this guy to see if hes here or if he moved somewhere else. Copy. Explosive breach and Everyone Needs to move back. All units move back. Breach, breach, breach. So they go in, and apparently it was the Smoke Detector and it was because of the smoke that was coming from all of his firing, it wasnt the flashes if there even were flashes. What does that tell you about the sheer i dont know, the power of the weapons that he was using. Ive seen some clues already and the clues, in my case, we saw one from the Family Member, by the way. He gave us a clue. Theres texting going on. So we know there seas a patter communications and we know that a Family Member that said he didnt have an interest in weapons and where he purchased them and how many rounds of ammunition he purchased and youre seeing indications in what he brought into that room that suggests to me if the family says he was never interested in this stuff, something happened over time mentally that i might be able to determine by things like texts to the family. I would not be surprised if he went to a range or belonged to a range. Operating these Weapons Systems. You dont pick it up for the first time and learn how to quickly learn these weapons and deploy them. So what i think you will see over time is very similar to what we saw in san bernardino, people practicing, dry runs. This isnt a crime of opportunity. This was very well thought out, very methodical. What we saw here with the police, las vegas metro. I cant say enough about them. Theyre just, you know, theyre professionalism, think about the calm demeanor of that team leader as he was announcing breach. Breach help breach. So calm, from a Law Enforcement perspective, they dont know if this was the primary tactic where there could be secondary attacks coming at ground level into that. Again, the s. W. A. T. Team going in to breach that door, true professionalism by the Law Enforcement agency. One of the best. Bravo to them and the First Responders and last question, phil, you hit on it a second ago and i get a text from my 21yearold cousin and she is so terrified by this and she goes to Music Festivals as do thousands of americans. Is there any way to protect us . There is. I think if you look at this the wave of the future is saying, do you see indicators of people like this not only from friends and family, but social media. I think there are questions about what his online profile was. A lot of questions about where your perimeter is in a situation like this, it wouldnt have worked in this case, but when youre looking at things like the manchester event at the concert months ago, should the perimeters be pushed out . What kind of stuff should people be allowed to bring into arenas and a lot of after action coming in. Thank you all so very much. Thank you. We are mourning the worst mass shooting in mod earn u. S. History and where we stand on the investigation and more harrowing stories from survivors next. Every time it was raining down bullets because it would go in increments for ten secondses straight. I dont know if he was unloading a full magazine or what, but each time that happened everyone in the crowd including myself would duck down and my sister kept throwing herself on top of me each time that happened and was just telling me how much she loves me and just doing something very noble to make sure i was okay. Russell is with me now. I cant imagine, lets begin with, that was your first person perspective. You thought to pull your phone ouchlt you felt you were crawling along the ground. Yeah, i was shooting the last song at the jason aldean concert when will it sounded like it was echoing. Gunshots were so far away didnt sound like natural. Then i saw bodies dropping, just absolute chaos. And somewhere your fee and say where was your fiance . Flo, getting a drink, and wanted to get closer. We were on our way out took cover while i was pinned down in the tent. So you are in the tent. I imagine you are trying to get out of there. And there is massive 10foot walls surrounding the venue. So you had to run toward the fire to get out. Is that correct . Yeah, so the exit we came in at, the one we knew, all followed the entrance the tent i was in. And i could hear screaming. And we went out that way and finally took cover and dodging bullets getting over there. We saw crowds start to come back towards us, which generated a whole world of problems. We thought we were out finally. So we had to follow the crowd along the side of the walls. 10foot tall chain link fencing connected. There was no going around it, through it, all of this while being shot at. We took cover, and majority of the crowd took cover behind the bleachers. And the sound were like clinking off the bleachers, and then youll see the trail of bullets, and coming back. And you had to wait like, 10second gap between the times he was reloading to try to get to safety. I mean, just terrifying. I woke up this morning after an hour long nap, and it just doesnt seem like it actually happened. This is just crazy. Im sure it doesnt feel real. A lot of people i talked to say it hasnt fully hit them. But we keep hearing the stories. People didnt know where the shooter was coming in from, so you didnt know which way to run, then you have all these strangers who are jumping on people, trying to save lives. You said there was a lot of former military jumping into action. Yes, yes. Seen people getting knocked over. No one could help them and stuff. You saw, thank god this was a country concert, a lot of good americans to jump in there whatever training you had. I saw guys plugging Bullet Wounds with their fingers, using barricades for large gurneys and stuff, trying to get people out, like two, three bodies at a time. Old men with retired military hats, you know, just stopping what they are doing, trying to stay calm, instead of running, standing there, telling people go left, go left, stay low. Trying to give some people direction. Not to mention the police officers, i mean, in a world where everyone is crouching and kneeling, these guys with just side arms going into fully automatic weapons going towards the danger. Every single second they went toward him, just hundreds and hundreds of rounds, just relent leslie wouldn lessly wouldnt stop. How is your fiance doing this morning . Not too well. When we got family, we reached in our hair and found all this dried up blood. Physically she was okay. It wasnt hers. We were scared it was her, but it turned out to be whoever was behind her. Just a horrible scenario. At least she has you and you have her. And my gosh, makes the meaning of getting married so much more profound. Russell, our best to you and of course to her. Thank you so for your time. Youre welcome. As we continue to cover the breaking news out of las vegas we get the shooters past and what he did the days leading up to her. Well hear from police and what they are hearing. Stay with us. You are watching cnn live coverage. People would stare. Psoriasis does that. It was tough getting out there on stage. I wanted to be clear. I wanted it to last. So i kept on fighting. I found something that worked. And keeps on working. Now . They see me. See me. See if cosentyx could make a difference for you cosentyx is proven to help people with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. Find clear skin that can last. Dont use if youre allergic to cosentyx. Before starting cosentyx, you should be checked for tuberculosis. An increased risk of infections and lowered ability to fight them may occur. Tell your doctor if you have an infection or symptoms. Or if you have received a vaccine or plan to. If you have inflammatory bowel disease, tell your doctor if symptoms develop or worsen. Serious allergic reactions may occur. Never give up. See me. See me. Clear skin can last. Dont hold back. Ask your dermatologist if cosentyx can help you find clear skin that lasts. Whyoure not thinking clearly, so they called the Fire Department for us. I could hear crackling in the walls. My mind went totally blank. All i remember saying was, my boyfriends beating me and she took it from there. And all of this occurred in four minutes or less. I am grateful we all made it out safely. People you dont know care about you. Its kind of one of those things where you cant even thank somebody. So many people, 22,000 people went to that concert in las vegas and witnessed this Country Music festival turn into a war zone as they survive this, they are understand bly in shock and fear, but also blessed to be alive to tell their stories. Heard a spray of it and we see jason drop his guitar and take off running to the back. And the lights go out on the stage. We knew something was wrong. But then the guy in front of us about 10 feet up goes down, guy to the right of him about 3 feet over goes down, and then we both look behind us, two girls go down. And he says run. And you see the crowd running towards us. Bullets starting ricochetting off the stage. And like feet from where we were standing. There were pauses in it. So every decision that you had to make was a lifethreatening decision. You had to make split decisions and your life was on the line. And on top of that you are trying to help other people. Everybody just started yelling get down. So i put the baby on the ground and got on top of her. And when we heard a little break, we ran. Heard a couple of rounds, like that, and everybody started running like a stampede. The Vantage Point he must have had to get some of the shots, and on this side i took cover here, and there was still bodies people laying in pools of blood. This is all blood. This is all blood splatter from people being dead and us having to be on top of them to get out. Everyone had to fall on top of each other, whether they were alive or not. There were people hiding underneath my car for cover. Had like six people in my car. People without shoes, running, just to get away. Right now, we need your truck. We need to get people over to the hospital. Okay . Okay. Go ahead. Put them all in the back. We now know the name of one of those who lost his life. 29yearold sonny melton was a registered nurse from tennessee. His wife heather was with him at the jason aldean show. She survived. She wrote this, at this point im incomplete disbelief and dis pair. Sunny was the most kind hearted loving man, i ever met. He saved my life and lost his. A go fund me page has been set up to help the surviving victims. It is already raised nearly a million dollars. And with me now on the phone, steve, he helped set up the page, and also chair of the Clark County Commission in las vegas. So, steve, i am so sorry this has happened in your community, and none of us can make sense of it. How are you holding up with all of this happening in practically your back yard . Well, you know, i appreciate that. Its been a long night here ive been with the First Responders all night. I got over here a little after midnight. And i have to say if not for the brave young and women it would be in the hundreds. We are currently at 58 dedeceased and 515 in the emergency rooms. Its my understanding youve been to the Trauma Center in town. Youve talked to families. Can you share some antidotes from them and stories from some of the victims. Antidotes are similar to what you played. I talked to someone that Family Members were shot and Family Members wounded. And there is a sur hell situation. I was on the crime scene, and still have not cleared all the bodies of the crime scene. You walk through there and there are wallets and purses and bodies still deceased there. You hear the phone ringing Family Members looking for them i assume. You have emergency people that we have emergency rooms, survivors in total state of shock. They dont know what happened to them. They are just like in a trans. And as a community we have really pulled together working this out. We currently have a six to eight hour wait for blood donations. Put out a call in 2 00 in the morning for blood donations. And the community has stepped up. Like you said go fund me page is well up over 1 million to pay for the expenses. And the hatred, this one individual, lone wolf showered down, its been met by a love from this community. Im taking a deep breath, and looking at the imagery of the cell phones of the deceased still ringing from loved ones trying to track them down. Steve, i have 30 seconds, the nation is grieving over this, whats the message for the Family Members sm. The nation is grieving, but at the same time showing how resilient we are in this country and las vegas. Ive never seen an out pouring of love in this community. We are hearing heroic stories, people drove a truck up and got 15 people jump in back of the truck and got them out of there just in time. But this Community Pulls together. We take care of each other. And well continue to do that. Steve, thank you so very much. Our heart goes out to your community. Im just so sorry that this has happened. Im out of words other than sorry for you, steve on the phone with me on that go fund me page to help those victims. Im brooke baldwin, thanks for being with me. The the lead with jake tapper starts now. Thanks, brook. Welcome to the the lead im jake tapper. We are continuing with the coverage on this horrific massacre in las vegas. This is the second time youve heard me over this, this is 58 people have died. And thats worse than the previous record, 49 people slaughtered there. That was an even higher body count than the 2012 at sandy hook 27 innocent
