we're yet to hear from any of the players today. however, the spanish women's national team play switzerland away tomorrow night in the women's nations league. there will be pre—match media, there'll be post—match media. and you can guarantee that they will certainly be asked about this. so if we don't hear from them today, you'd expect by at least tomorrow night host that game. then we will get some reaction from the players themselves. jo currie there. rugby australia have confirmed that eddiejones has resigned as head coach of the national team... jones will depart next month — following a a poor world cup campaign which saw the wallabies lose to fiji and wales — and fail to reach the knockout stage. jones won just two out of nine games while in charge. during the tournament in france, jones denied speculation linking him with a return as japan coach, insisting he was "committed" to his role with australia. the english ice hockey association says it will be mandatory to wear a neck guard during "all on—ice activities" from next year onwards. the announcement comes following the death of nottingham panthers forward adam johnson. tributes have been paid tojohnson who died after suffering a serious cut to his neck from a skate during saturday's challenge cup match against the sheffield steelers. the association also said their "strong recommendation" is that all players wear neck guards with immediate effect.. the association oversees all levels of ice hockey in england below the elite league — the top division of ice hockey in the uk whichjohnson played in. neck guards are currently mandatory for under 18 years in the sport, but at a senior level, hardly anybody wears them. and we're talking about a relatively inexpensive bit of kit that is compulsory in other countries like sweden and finland. it all has echoes this discussion of what happened to phillip hughes, doesn't it? the australian cricketer who was killed by a bouncer to the head around nine years ago now, now in the aftermath of his death. they introduced stem guards to the back of cricket helmets. there are already clubs, ice hockey clubs today who have made adaptations to their own safety policies following the death of adam johnson. let's be clear. this isn't the first time this has happened in ice hockey before. and i know people that have had very close, very close occurrences with this previously as well. and it's a real shame that it takes something like this to to drive change. but oxford city stars now, we have mandated this to all our players. so we have now placed an order for some new neck guards for all our players, and they will have to wear those during all on ice activities. as a club, we really hope this pushes things forward for the whole sport, not only here in the uk but further afield as well, and that we can really be a leader on this. people who were against the halo in f1 when that came in and that has changed the way that f1 works and the safety elements of it. and i think we need to look at this as a sport. ice hockey has been around for many, many years and of course there has been accidents over those years. but if we can take one thing out of this tragedy and make a positive impact from that, it would be to increase player safety. we've had a statement from the governing body, the english ice hockey association, that they make a strong recommendation that all players across all levels wear neck protection on the ice. they're going to make that recommendation mandatory on the 1st of january. now, part of the reason they can't make it compulsory immediately is because of a lack of stock of this type of equipment. within the next 12 months, they say they're going to conduct a thorough review of player safety as well. but they end this statement by saying that is unacceptable for a player to lose their life while playing sports. they say, "our responsibility is not only to avert the recurrence of such a heartbreaking accident, but also to pre—emptively address other foreseeable incidents in the future". afghanistan are proving themselves the surprise team of the cricket world cup so far. they beat sri—lanka by another named storm following on from storm babette. this time it's ciaran, expected to arrive wednesday night into thursday. yes, damaging gusts of winds, but more importantly, widespread heavy rain falling on already saturated ground. that could cause some issues. before that, though, we've got an amber weather warning that remains in force until 9am this morning. we're likely to see this relentless feed of wet weather, with that easterly wind. so a further 70—100 millimetres of rainfall where we've already seen some flooding. so there could be some further issues this morning. we'll also see some wet weather as well spilling across parts of north—west england, down through lincolnshire, east midlands, over into the london area. south of that, slightly brighter skies for a time, but by the end of the afternoon, more wet weather starting to push into the south—west where we had flooding at the weekend. scotland, drier with some sunshine coming through, a few isolated showers, cooler here, 7—9 degrees. elsewhere, 12—15 celsius. so that wet weather will arrive during the early hours of wednesday morning and pushing its way steadily north. and as it bumps into that cold air on the leading edge, there will be some snow for a time. it will be a pretty wet affair on wednesday, and windy with it across scotland. elsewhere, it's a case of sunny spells and scattered showers. and temperatures, similar story, we're looking at around 7—15 degrees. let's take a look at storm ciaran, then. expected to intensify quite rapidly during the early hours of thursday morning. now, the position of this low still potentially subject to change, but basically circulating around that low, we've got that weather front once again, feed of relentless rain across eastern scotland, northern ireland and southern coastal counties as well. and in addition to that, it's the strength of the winds that's a cause for concern. widespread gusts 50—60 miles an hour inland, on exposed channel coasts, 80—90 mile an hour, maybe even stronger close to the channel isles. so we really do need to keep a close eye on the weather story wednesday into thursday. even once that storm has cleared
