We may well start off with some rain but that is of the way to sunny spells and scattered showers. Strengthening winds and rain, though, will arrive from the west a little later on this afternoon. And ill have all the details coming up shortly. Good morning. Its saturday the 14th of march. Our top story Mass Gatherings could be banned from as early as next weekend under new plans being drawn up by ministers. The move, which marks a shift in the governments position, is designed to ease the burden on emergency services. It comes as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the uk rises to almost 800. John mcmanus has the story. This time last weekend, britain was still in the containment phase of the outbreak stop now, with 11 deaths and nearly 800 confirms infections, new measures have been introduced to slow the spread of the virus. This means the local and mayoral elections will be moved next year. Theyll all premiership football has been suspended until april. In this weekends sick nations has also been kicked into touch. Prisoners who catch the virus may also have to be isolated in special accommodation. In the uk government may be about to go further. The bbc understands it will follow scotlands leap next week and ban all Mass Gatherings. Sources say its not a change of heart on the science, although they are concerned about the dodin big events may put on Health Services and the police. Beauden. On our schools remain open, but some European Countries have closed theirs. The labour party has welcomed the measures, but says the prime ministers decisions must be more transparent. And members of the public are getting in touch with us, raising their concerns, telling us us, raising their concerns, telling us that they dont think theres enough information coming out, asking us questions which i believe are legitimate questions about why is ireland going down one root and why is france going on one particular root and we are not, i think we have a duty as an opposition to be raising those concerns. With more than 1002 deaths in italy, a 50 jump in fidelity s in spain, and the closure of borders in denmark, ukraine, and poland, much of europes normal life has stopped. Europe has now become the epicentre of the pandemic, with more reported cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined stop by the Foreign Office is warning against all but essential travel to italy, poland, and some parts of spain. And the advice here is clear. If you have a new, persistent cough, oi if you have a new, persistent cough, ora if you have a new, persistent cough, or a fever, stay at home and isolated yourself. John mcmanus, bbc news. Lets get more now on the news that Mass Gatherings may be banned from as early as next week. Our political correspondent, matt cole, joins us now from our london newsroom. Is this a definite change in direction from the government . Good morning rachel, charlie. Sources in whitehall, the strand of the government, would say no. They would say that they have always contain the provision possibility for this in their planning. The point that the chief scientific advisor has made previously, they say, is that the banning of mass events would not necessarily make a major impact on the rate at which the coronavirus spreads. What they say this is about is about easing pressure on the emergency services, the nhs, the police, those who have to police around and help organise these big events might be better deployed elsewhere tackling this virus. What we dont know, though, is how soon this will come in, potentially as early as next weekend. We also dont know what is defined by a mass gathering. 500 people in scotland, will it be the same, we dont know at this stage. Quite a few questions still to be answered by thank you very much indeed. That is matt cole talking to us from our newsroom in london. Most major sporting events this weekend have been called off due to coronavirus, including all premier league, Champions League and six nations games. Mikes at the home of Tranmere Rovers this morning, who due to play later today. Good morning to you. A lot of these organisations, the sporting authorities, were not told by the government they had to stop these fixtures, the decisions were made anyway. Yes, and in the end it ended up anyway. Yes, and in the end it ended up being unanimous, didnt it, across the country . All british only professional football cancelled until at least the third and fourth of april, that weekend in a few weeks, after the international break. This would be where fans normally gather on a much day at Tranmere Rovers. They were due to play lincoln city, a crucial game, they are third from bottom in league one. They have won their last three league games so they were on a bit ofa league games so they were on a bit of a role. You know what it is like winsport, the momentum, it was crucial to keep going for them but now there will be the break for everybody. The efl in particular working not to have matches played behind closed doors. We have the pitch under the lights this morning. The problem would have been, i guess, for clubs playing behind closed doors was losing the revenue from the crowds on match days like this. So the premier league matches, the efl matches are all off until the efl matches are all off until the third and fourth of april. Not just that, but in rugby union the decision was made yesterday to finally call off the wales and scotla nd finally call off the wales and scotland six nations game. So all the final round of six nations matches are all off until, potentially, it could be the autumn when france play ireland. But plenty more confirmation on that still to come, of course. Football, rugby, all off. We were talking a lot about this yesterday at cheltenham. These are this yesterday at cheltenham. These a re really this yesterday at cheltenham. These are really unprecedented times. I cant remember ever a time, course, like this, when there has been no sport really at all to cover. Were talking instead about all the sport thatis talking instead about all the sport that is off, rather than much is going on today. We will talk later on. Thank you very much. President trump has declared a National Emergency in america after more than 1,700 confirmed coronavirus cases and 47 deaths. It means the government can access up to £40 billion in emergency funding. Our north america correspondent, david willis, has the story. President trump has gone from playing down this pandemic and branding concerns about the virus a hope to approving billions of dollars in Government Funds to fight it. I am officially declaring a National Emergency. Two very big words. Never mind that the optics of his address offered something of a contrast to the social distancing Government Agencies here recommend. Not to mention their suggested avoidance of handshaking. Declaring avoidance of handshaking. Declaring a National Emergency frees up to 50 billion in federal government funding to combat the coronavirus. Central to the trump administrations response will be a network of drive through test sites run by the private sector. In south korea, they played a key role in getting a handle on the crisis. A shortage of test kits has meant that only around 15,000 people in the us have been tested for the virus, but the president said that by next month millions of kits would be available. Pressed on why the uk had been exempted from the van on european travellers entering the us ata time european travellers entering the us at a time when coronavirus cases there are growing, mr trump indicated that decision was now under review ban. Indicated that decision was now under review ban. We are looking at it based on the new numbers that are coming out and we may have to include them in the list of countries that we will, you could say ban, or whatever it is during this period of time. But the numbers have gone up fairly precipitously over the last 2a hours so we may be adding that. Wall street reacted favourably to the presents announcements, gains and the dow jones doubled in the last half hour of trading on friday. And later it was announced that Congressional Democrats had reached agreement with the white house on a series of financial measures, including paid sick leave for workers affected by the coronavirus. But such is the pa rt the coronavirus. But such is the part of the nature of politics here, even at times like these, that both sides claimed credit for the legislation. There are one or two things to emerge from this extraordinary kind of time we find ourselves in, the sense of people talking to each other a bit more, contacting each other a bit more, checking in. Looking out for each other. Forming networks saying how can we support you if you need to . Could you have an older relative, how can we look after them . Perhaps thatis how can we look after them . Perhaps that is one positive to emerge. Indeed. It is something that we will be talking about today. People with disabilities and their carers are calling for more support from the government as the number of uk cases of coronavirus continues to rise. The routines, the change to routines could really upset his Mental Health. These are the many and varied consequences of a virus which we are told repeatedly, for the majority, is no worse than the flu. Lucy is a journalist within the bbc. She has spent many hours recently chasing detail from the government about its plans to help people like her who rely on personal assistance to remain independent. This plan emerged yesterday, suggesting volunteers could be drafted in to replace divisional staff. I really want to know and detail is exactly what these people are so desperate for, before a crisis hits, not after. Interesting, the practical problems that people are worried about and it is worth saying at ten past eight this morning we are speaking to helen, the care minister, and we will address some wider concerns about what is happening in relation to what the government is saying about crowds, for example, and schools but also specific to some of thoseissues schools but also specific to some of those issues around care. If you are affected by that they do get in touch. Should we take a look at the front pages, then . All are dominated by coronavirus. The Daily Telegraph leads on the prime ministers decision to ban major events from next week, and adds that ministers will discuss closing schools for an extra week either side of the easter holiday. I think that is all the talk around pa rents i think that is all the talk around parents at the moment, i think the School Holidays will be extended. They think the School Holidays will be extended. The daily mail warns that hospitals could stop treating the most severely ill people with coronavirus in favour of those with better survival chances. Its game over for sport in the uk, says the daily mirror. It lists football, rugby and golf among the sports crippled by the coronavirus crisis. And the most watched on bbc news online is a piece about face masks particularly now that they are in high demand as people look for ways to protect themselves from the virus. Idid i did also noticed quite a few of the papers this morning have things to do if you are at home for a long time, including the best tv to catch up time, including the best tv to catch up on. How is the weather looking, louise . Something for everybody, not a write off but if you have got up and take a little sneaky peak outside, you will notice there has been some rain and if it is not raining still it will clear away and it will ease to some sunny spells for many but more wet and windy weather returning but i will give you a sneak peek into next week and it is looking promising for many. This is the story, these weather fronts have been spilling many. This is the story, these weatherfronts have been spilling in from the west producing outbreaks of rain with it. That is going to continue to be an issue as we go through the day. The rain, some of it has been quite heavy actually overnight. It has continued to move its way across much of scotland and quite a heavy burst at the moment through the midlands and south east of england and we are expecting it to we can often start to ease away so to we can often start to ease away so hold fire if you have outdoor plans. It is an improving story for many of us, particularly across england and wales and we may actually see some sunny spells coming through to the afternoon and the rain in scotland easing but it could stay cloudy and drizzly. Winds will strengthen though, 40 50 gust an hourand will strengthen though, 40 50 gust an hour and wetter weather pushing into Northern Ireland and western fringes but temperatures ahead of it a little bit warmer than they have beenin a little bit warmer than they have been in the last couple of days because the winds have swung around to it southerly 8 14 degrees so through the night is a lot of wet and windy weather to come and the heaviest rain to start with across scotla nd heaviest rain to start with across scotland and it eases away but look across north west england and wales where we are going to see heavy rain, potentially 30 40 millimetres as the night progresses. It stays cloudy, relatively mild tonight, 49d, cloudy, relatively mild tonight, 4 9d, and the wet weather is still to clear through sunday. The winds will stay a feature as well, gusting to gale force for a time. A windy start to our second half of the weekend. A wet one for some as well and the rain will spill its way out of Northern England out of wales into the midland, maybe east anglia and the south east and could stay dry for the majority of the day on sunday, arriving later on in the afternoon. Behind it, brightand breezy, still pretty windy for some of the north with a scattering of sharp showers to come. In terms of the feel of the weather for sunday afternoon, similar to today, nine 12 degrees. Now, look at this. High pressure is set to build and i have not used that phrase for quite some time once it does it could stay with us for quite some time as well. An area of High Pressure will start to move in across the country through next week. For most of us it means a good deal of dry, settled and hopefully at times sunny weather so and hopefully at times sunny weather so take a look at this. The risk may be of some light rain into the far north west but for many next week, it looks predominantly dry and we have not seen a dry spell of weather like this is the middle of september last have not seen a dry spell of weather like this is the middle of september last year. Back to you two. Thank you very much i think people might be spending a little bit more time out and about. Enjoy that sunshine, thatis out and about. Enjoy that sunshine, that is for sure. We have in a moment with the headlines. Now its time for the film review with jane hill and mark kermode. Hello and welcome to the film review on bbc news. To take us through this weeks cinema releases is mark kermode. What do we have this week . Very mixed bag. We have misbehaviour which is a true life story of the disruption of the 1970 miss world. We have bacurau which is brilliantly indescribable and very strange. Chuckles. And my spy, a kind of updated kindergarten cop. So we start with a true story . So, yes, based on real events, a comedy drama about the 1970 miss world. It is amazing to throw your mind back to 1970 when miss world was a really big thing, it was on the bbc and everybody sat round and watched it. Ms granada is the dignified contestant who was the chance of breaking the competitions white only glass ceiling. Meanwhile, Keira Knightley and Jessie Buckley are the chalk and cheese womens activists who decided that they are going to disrupt the Cattle Market of miss world by making their own way to the competition and creating a spectacle that will draw attention to the rising womans movement. Heres a clip. How do we actually get in without being caught . We buy tickets. Laughter. Unless thats too organised. And you lot, you would have to blend in. Communal clothes. Laughter. Woo ooh, wow oh, i love them you look like a bag lady. What, i look like you . This is what youre wearing. This is your skirt. Laughter. I am gonna win. Look, could you. . God, i cant breathe. Shoes. Laughing. Lady like. I look exactly like my mother. I look like my mothers sofa. Now, the thing i really liked about this was on the one hand, it is a remarkable true story. These two things converge and happen at the same time. The second thing is what the film does tonally is it has a very good balance in the same way as Something Like made in dagenham or, you know, more recently, battle of the sexes does of taking an important socioeconomic story and putting it in a form which is really entertaining, so there are great performances. There is stuff like eric morley who is in charge of the competition. He is really good. And he is also really enjoying himself. He is having a great time. Greg kinnear as bob hope. The celebrity guest although i think the show is stolen by Leslie Manville as his long suffering wife dolores, who has seen a bob hope be at these competitions before. And then, at the centre of it, you have this i mean, it is actually pretty much historically what happened but told with great wit, great humour. We heard a couple people say it was a bit flimsy. I think what they meant by flimsy is strangely accessible because i thought the story did grapple with some complicated you know, there were conflicts of interest. On the one hand, there is the story of the miss world character and the womens lib movemebt and this dinosaur competition was welcomed into everyones home. But of course, it. I spent the whole film seething to think that we actually did this only 50 years ago. It was a very good historical reminder of how horrific it was. The most alarming thing is when they do the turn, but i thought it was really entertaining, but i think it also told the story well. 0h, oh, iwas oh, i was literally cringing absolutely. It is hugely enjoyable. You could say maybe a couple of the Keira Knightley, Jessie Buckley characters although terrific were not well drawn but the historical representation of the period was fantastic. My feeling about those i think there is a certain Broad Strokes ness to those characters, but in exactly the same way as i didnt mind it with made in dagenham, i think what it is doing is attempting to tell that story to the widest possible audience, because what you dont want is to be singing to the choir. You dont want to be making a story about the subject to people who already know it, but to those who dont know about it. Absolutely. You want to tell it to the broadest possible audience. So you can say this really happened and thousands of people watched it and it was really was remarkable. Thumbs up from me. Your second choice today . Bacurau. This is a brazilian film and i talked about aquarius on the programme about a year or so ago this is political satire. It takes some inspiration from that story, the most dangerous game, about hunting humans. It is a remote village that discovers it has effectively been written off the map. Their phone signal has stopped working, their water has been cut off, they no longer appear on satellite maps, so they have effectively been deemed to not exist. And then a bunch of rich, armed terrorists turn up, and then a bunch of rich, armed tourists turn up, led by udo kier which is not a good sign and it goes from being on one side from magicaljodorowsky satire to something that is a grim and gruelling thriller. I liked it very much because it was hard to pigeonhole it. I am very aware that the more you know about the political situation, the more you can read from it, and i was thinking i am watching this as a cineast rather than a politician, so i am getting half of the story, but it is well directed and very unexpected. There are moments of real brutality in it and there is certainly one of those films that afterwards, you will have a very long discussion about what it all added up to. I thought it was an interesting piece. It is on the cinema for a couple of weeks and then on movie for a couple of months. On mubi. And now my spy. We have seen this a few times in this particular format, so Dave Bautista is this muscle bound agent who will we see at the beginning of the movie doing a mission in which hejust punches people anbd blowing things up. And they say that he is not a very good spy and he is sent on a surveillance mission. He ends up falling for the person that he is surveilling but he gets wrapped up with the child he is also surveilling. You dont believe me . Look, kid, youre just not the spy type. 0h, isee. So i should just stay in my box and dream of maybe being a barista or a Fashion Designer or a wedding planner. Or maybe an er nurse like your mother. You know, i was thinking of asking bobby anyway. She seems more like the brains of the operation, whereas youre more the brawn. Who are you calling brawn . I was an analyst she doesnt have an ounce of my training if anybodys going to teach you, its going to be. Nicely done. Dont do that again. You can hear the score coming in, going this bits funny here is the thing. It is perfectly fine. There are a couple of chuckles. It is basically kindergarten cop meets spy meets stakeout. It isa it is a very well trodden path. Dave bautista is funny, although he has done funny stuff in guardians of the galaxy, for example. I chuckled a few times. The screening i was in, there was one person who was laughing their head off the whole way through and i imagined they were a big Dave Bautista fan, but it was kind of its the very definition of meh, its all right. I have seen much worse and much better. Is it in your category of i wasnt bored . I wanted it to be funnier than it was, but i have seen far less funny things. That wont go on the poster for it. Probably not but you are probably all over the poster of a portrait of a lady on fire. And we both love it. It is the last week im going to do this, because it is the last week its gonna be, you know. This is one of the best films i have seen in ages. It is directed by a fantastic director, celine sciamma, and it is a period drama but very contemporary. It is about the female gaze, but also a love story. It has the most extraordinary use of music, despite the fact there is very little music in it, and ijust thought i loved it. It is beautiful. I think is a beautiful film in every way. And also flawless. I cant think of anything that is wrong with it. I keep thinking there must be something that is wrong with it. Nope, absolutely flawless. It is up there with parasite in terms of not a step foot wrong. It is up there with parasite in terms of not a step put wrong. I am with you on that one. Lets talk about dvd. There may be more people sitting at home watching films in the next couple of weeks so you may need to come up with some goodies. So they are going to be very important in the next couple of weeks. So, lamont 66. So, lamans 66. This was nominated for an oscar. It was known as ford versus ferrari in america, and it was a racing story with two great performances from Christian Bale and matt damon. Christian bale got all of the attention in terms of the acting. Yes. I think matt damon had the harder role. I think that role was actually more complicated because it seemed to be the less complex role. And although it sounds counter intuitive, it is harder to play a less complex role. I thought it was very entertaining with terrific sound design. It reminded me, to some extent, of the original. I remember going to see the original with my dad. Everyone my age was taken to see the original by their dad, but it was a great story and well told and very moving. I was slightly surprised it was up for best picture, but it is a good piece of entertainment and a solidly made film. Ok, and we will need lots of that. It is no portrait of a lady on fire go and see that before they shut the cinemas i should not tempt fate. Do not say that it makes my heart to even think about it positive Energy Thanks for being here. Thanks for watching. Fingers crossed we will all be here next week. Thanks. We will see you next time. Bye bye. Hello and welcome to breakfast with Charlie Stayt and rachel burden. Good morning. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. New plans being drawn up by ministers could see a ban on Mass Gatherings from as early as next week. Government sources say the move is designed to ease the burden on emergency services. Major sporting and cultural events have already been cancelled across the country in response to the pandemic. It comes as the number of confirmed deaths from coronavirus in the uk rises to 11. Meanwhile, a National Emergency has been declared in the United States as the number of deaths there has risen to 47. The move allows President Trump to access up to £40 billion in emergency funding. Today also sees the president s plan to ban travel to and from 26 European Countries come into effect. The government is drawing up emergency coronavirus plans to avoid disruption in englands prisons. Staff will be offered bonuses to cover shortages and could be redeployed to cover front line services. The Prison Governors Association has said cases of the virus are inevitable and unions say prison officers face unprecedented challenges. The bbcs sport relief event took place last night raising millions of pounds for projects across the world. The organisers have this year promised a chunk of the money would go to those affected by the coronavirus pandemic here in the uk. The fundraising night went ahead in front of a live studio audience in salford with comedy sketches and celebrity performances. Heres the moment the nights tally was announced. Our sport relief 2020 total is £40,540,355. And congratulations to everyone involved in that. A massive effort. I know lots of people were involved in events that could have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak at the moment and carried on regardless. A fantastic effort if you were involved in that in any way. You are telling us what you are doing and how your weekend has been impacted by everything that is going on. A couple of text messages. We are staying at home with the children because we dont have to be anywhere. That seems to be the most socially responsible thing to do. Other people are changing the sporting plans. Brighten away is off so it is properly at home instead. Off so it is properly at home instead. I am bored and thinking of Live Streaming to the nation. Is that what it has come to . People might be interested. It is extraordinary what people will watch. We will speak to a man who would fit on a subbuteo table right now. He is following and tracking all the sporting events that have been cancelled. Where are you, mike . Iamjust coming i am just coming up into the hospitality suite at Tranmere Rovers, this is tony, who would be getting ready for a busy saturday afternoon, not just getting ready for a busy saturday afternoon, notjust because tranmere would have been at home if it were not for the cancellation due to the coronavirus, but because it was a Merseyside Derby on monday, tony was saying this place would be full of scandinavian fans over that. But because it was on monday they would feel there we can buy coming along to cheer on tranmere feel there we can. And spend money on food and drink. A lucrative saturday is off for tranmere. The rest of the elite british football as well. There is the pitch all prepared but no fence will be turning up here today or a few miles from here. All british football off until the third of april. Six miles over there is goodison park, where everton were due to play liverpool on monday. This would have been such a crucial game for liverpool. Liverpool fans hoping to take a giant step towards winning theirfirst hoping to take a giant step towards winning their First League Title in 30 years with a game against everton. Jurgen klopps side are 25 points clear at the top of premier league but now there are real questions about what will happen to the rest of the season. Liverpools managerjurgen klopp was keen to put things in perspective, saying, of course we dont want to play in front of an empty stadium and we dont want games or competitions suspended, but if doing so helps one individual stay healthy just one we do it no questions asked. If its a choice between football and the good of the wider society, its no contest. Really, it isnt. Ijust think there i just think there are dark forces around because of liverpools title win. I know it is ridiculous. That is the way is sometimes think about it. The whole thing just drives me insane. There are peoples lives at risk in things and it is a sensible decision. Itsjust that he is we have been waiting for this. And lets hope they make the sensible decision that 25 points ahead, we won it. Its notjust football but the whole world of sport thats been rocked by postponements. The eagerly anticipated first golf major of the year, the masters, was due to start on the ninth april but that has also been put back. Last year the Augusta National was the scene of tiger woods comeback win after 11 years without a major title. This yearjames sugrue, won a coveted place by winning the amateur championships. All the information that ive received is just that it has been postponed. I suppose that was a big relief, just to know that it was postponed and not cancelled. If it was cancelled that would have been very unlucky for myself stop byjust delighted it is postponed and hopefully it will be up and running again sooner rather than later. The six nations game between wales and scotland had been given the go ahead to take place today but was called off only 24 hours before kick off. The Welsh Rugby Union defended their decision saying it was the proper and responsible thing to do. Many travelling fans were left out of pocket with the judgement coming at such a late stage. Eyes sympathise with that sort of scenario. There is not a lot we can do in that respect because we took the responsible decision for 75,000 people in the stadium possibly being sort of subjected and open to this, well, this killer disease. And next months London Marathon has been rearranged for the fourth of october because of the outbreak. There is also due to be a marathon at the olympics and paralympics in tokyo this summer. Japans olympic minster said there was no intention of cancelling or even postponing the games but all eyes with be on the olympics as the next possible event to fall. Despite all the cancellations there is some sport to tell you about, over 68,000 people were at cheltenham to watch the gold cup. And they saw the Willie Mullins trained al boum photo beat santini by a neck to become the first horse since 2004 to successfully defend the gold cup. Jockey Paul Townsend on board for the irish champion trainer. The last horse to win it more than once was best mate, who won the race three times between 2002 and 2004. Hes a laid back horse, like his jockey, paul is very laid back. All came here with a lot of pressure this year being number one jockey for the first time in cheltenham for us. For the first time in cheltenham for us. You know, he stand to his name on cheltenham and stabbed his authority. So im really pleased for paul authority. So im really pleased for paul stamped. Leeds could have gone top of super league this weekend, after leaders wigan suffered a shock defeat last night. They led salford14 2 at one stage, but the home side fought back to win 18 14. Leeds game with catalans dragons has though been postponed because of coronavirus fears. Therell be some few aches and pains this morning after sports relief yesterday. Olympic champion sam quek and comedian Lloyd Griffiths will probably be suffering they were involved in 2020 penalties. Quek won scoring more than 1400 while griffiths was in goal charlie, i did to your penalty as well. We were watching in cheltenham on the big screen in the pressroom. That one into the top corner was fantastic. Theres some sport to tell you about today. If you want to go along, there is some rugby league, netball, basketball, and some badminton at the all england championships. Thank you very much. Thanks for the night. By think that was a surprise to everyone, especially me. But they all count. As many more people in the uk make plans in case they need to self isolate others are emerging from their time in quarantine. Nigel and anne scotland are one such couple. They were on holiday in tenerife last month when six people tested positive for coronavirus at their hotel. They tested negative for the disease twice, but when they got home they were encouraged to remain in isolation. Our social Affairs Correspondent fiona lamdin has been to meet them. Opening herfront opening her front door is something and scotland has not been able to do for two weeks. Welcome. Did you see outside . Instead they have had this sign out, keeping everyone away up. We didnt even open the door to put the rubbish out. We have taken this really seriously. And we know how important it is. Not being able to leave their home for days, they have had to rely on the outside world to leave everything on the doorstep. Our family and friends have been wonderful, and neighbours, so many people, even people we didnt know very well have offered to do shopping and anything we need, havent they . Last month, they were staying at this hotel in tenerife, and six people tested positive for coronavirus. The hotel went into lockdown. Anne and nigel were tested twice. Both times the results were negative. Despite having no symptoms, once back home their quarantine continued. Notice the very nice oatmeal paint that we have been rolling onto the wall, which took up two days of our time. And we decorated the kitchen and weve been doing lots ofjobs at home that wouldnt have got done otherwise. And that has also been a lot of time for this. Been doing a lot of reading, havent you . We have. This taute this is the sum total of our holiday reading and what we have done just more recently. Our holiday reading and what we have donejust more recently. Make our holiday reading and what we have done just more recently. Make a long list so you have got plenty to do and to occupy your time and just think positive and think it is short term, its not going to last forever. Listen to nice music and weve also got other things we can fall back on, weve got some nice dvds that we can still catch up with. And there is a bit on iplayer to catch up on. With the two weeks up, anne and nigel and are free to come and go as they please. Freedom of for now, but with a close eye, no doubt, and government advice. Fiona lamdin, bbc news. Well, how do you think you would manage with that, charlie . well, how do you think you would manage with that, charlie . A lot of people would watch that and be thinking if you are going to do it, thatis thinking if you are going to do it, that is the way to do it. Just organise themselves. If i had a home is nice and tidy as there is a quite enjoyed. They dont fancy being in my own home for two weeks. Heres louise with a look at this mornings weather. Bye bye. A lot of people would be hoping for decent weather to change their spirits. I tell you what, if you have time at home next week it would bea have time at home next week it would be a perfect time to get in the garden and maybe tidy up after the miserable winter we have had and things were quietened down. For the weekend, a little bit messy at the moment. Some rain around but some drier interludes so if you listen to me hopefully you will be able to time it right and dodge the worst of it. Some rain around at the moment. That has been sweeping steadily eastwards overnight and this little ridge of High Pressure builds before the next area of low pressure moves in later on today so sandwiched in between the two, there should be decent usable weather out there but for the here and now, the last few hours of rain have been like this and some of it heavy across parts of scotla nd and some of it heavy across parts of scotland and some heavier bursts through the midlands and south east but it is starting to fragment and it will clear its way eastwards and we will see a story improving so behind it, you can already see we are expecting sunny spells to arrive are expecting sunny spells to arrive a little later on today so a little bit of patience and hopefully we will get some decent weather. The wind will gradually strengthen as we go through the day and we will start to see the arrival of the area of low pressure, bringing the rain into Northern Ireland and western fringes of scotla nd Northern Ireland and western fringes of scotland and ahead of it, wilder than the last couple of days, 8 14, so if you get out and get some brightness, but about afternoon. The wet and windy weather sweeps its way east. Heavy rain across scotland for a time and then through the night, north west england and wales as where we see the heaviest of the rain, 30 40 millimetres likely. But with the cloud and rain around it will not be a cold night. That is going to sweep its way steadily eastwards on sunday again, a little bit of a tricky one. We will get some wet weather gradually pushing its way down towards the south east corner but here, it may well stay dry for the bulk of the day on sunday and then behind, a trail of showers following onto the heaviest of the rain on sunday starting across the midlands, down through wales and south west england. Gradually pushing towards the london area but not until the end of the day. Hind, a trail of showers accompanied by call the northerly winds so that really will have quite an impact on the feel of the weather, i suspect. As we go through sunday. In terms of the high on sunday, called on scotland, 5 8d, further south, a maximum of 12. Adding to the gloom of good news and i have not been able to say High Pressure builds and stays with us for quite some time, in actual fact, the High Pressure is going to move in into next week and push across the country. Still the risk of some wea k the country. Still the risk of some weak weather fronts toppling across that high into the far north west but for the bulk of us, look at this, dry, settled and maybe at times some sunshine around so that isa times some sunshine around so that is a glimmer of good news. There you go. Times some sunshine around so that is a glimmer of good news. There you go. Back to you two. Thank you very much. Well be back with the headlines at seven oclock. Now its time for click. In 1998, the release of First Person Shooter half life sent a seismic shock across the world of video games. It featured cinematic storytelling, taut action sequences and some of the creepiest bad guys ever to grace a video game. Well, lets just say your hour has come again. I remember when half life came out, november 1998, a massive moment in pc gaming. Before than, it had been doom that defined shooter games. Half life reset the bar. A sequel followed in 2004. Gunfire. Cheering. Fans patiently awaited new half life content but its makers, a Company Called valve, went very quiet on the half life front. Until now, that is. Marc cieslak has been to valves headquarters in the us, where hes got his hands on their latest addition to the franchise a game which has surprised many by embracing Virtual Reality. Bellevue, washington is home to valve software, an Award Winning Games Development company. It has plans to reinvigorate Virtual Reality with half lifes help. A title which changed games forever. Hey, mr freeman. I had a bunch of messages for you but we had a system crash. There has been a lot of hype and high hopes around the rebirth of Virtual Reality. Vr headsets have arrived from a variety of different companies. But in recent years, interest in the technology has waned. Virtual reality, it seems, is lacking a killer app. That, however, could be about to change. Morning, mr freeman. Looks like youre running late. Everyone has been fixated on the idea of a new half life everyone has been so excited on the idea of a new half life game for years. The first one gave us such a new cinematic way of experiencing a game. The second one, it handed us the gravity gun, we had much more puzzling, much more storytelling. My god, we made it and it has almost become a kind ofjoke over the last 13 years of half life 3 being announced, because valve has always teased that something would come. There were lots of rumours, everybody wanted something new, but now finally, being told that we have got something in that universe, its a whole new full length story. Its probably fair to say that a new half life game will be one of the most keenly anticipated titles of the last decade. But is making it a Virtual Reality only title a way of shifting vr headsets . I mean, this is a way to sell the headsets. The minute you put a half life game on vr its going to make people buy the minute you put a half life game on vr, its going to make people buy something or potentially look into buying something they hadnt had before. But its notjust available on valves headsets, its available everywhere. So what this will do is potentially reinvigorate and kick start everybodys interest in the vr space. One of our goals here was to hopefully show a bunch of people who looked at vr and thought it looks interesting but not yet, it hadnt convinced them yet, to say oh, theres an experience over they really want, and hopefully they will see this and say, actually, ill go check that out. This is the moment that ive been waiting for. Its been 16 years since half life 2 was released and 13 years since weve had any new half life content. Right now, im going to try out the latest game in the series in Virtual Reality. Im playing using valves own vr hardware, called index. The controllers features sensors which translate my hand and finger movements. This will allow me to interact with the game world in much the same way as i would in the real world. Here weve got an opportunity to try out some of the gameplay mechanics, so we have the gravity gloves, which should allow me to pull this. And grab it. And throw it towards one of those barnacles. Let the barnacle eat it. When you see items, you can grab them with the gravity gloves, catch them, store them in your backpack for later. The title has been designed to work with a wide variety of different vr headsets. But the games demanding Technical Specifications means it will have to run on a pretty high end pc. The full index vr set up like this one isnt cheap, either, costing nearly £1,000. Cant open these doors theyre jammed. Ah, that opens up for me. Here we go. Almost everything you interact with in the game works like it does in the real world. Everything apart from travel. Getting around turns out to be one of the more interesting things in Virtual Reality. Its one of the trickier problems to solve. In so many things that are local scale allow you to just use your body in a naturalway, like, im going to pick up a bucket to look at whats underneath it. Traversing space doesnt quite yet allow you to use your body in that way. There are a couple of different styles of teleportation and then a more Traditional Movement that we call continuous motion. And some people are more comfortable with one than another. This is genuinely extremely tense. Argh ok, well, i need new underwear. This adds an entirely new dimension to video game combat one of absolute pant wetting fear. Well find out what kind of impact half life alyx has when it releases on march 23. Were all being told that the best way to combat the coronavirus is by washing our hands thoroughly with soap and water. But when we cant get to a basin, many of us are also using alcohol based hand sanitiser. So much so that supplies have been running low. One company we met in taiwan last year hopes to have found the solution. This is the eleclean, a device that is claimed to create your own disinfectant. Hopefully that will do the trick. The company does expect that this protects against the coronavirus. The issue is, they have actually sold out of them. But its notjust about keeping our hands clean. How about our devices . This week, apple issued new advice about how to keep our phones clean but i would suggest that you dont do anything until youve heard what chris fox has to say. With the growing concern around coronavirus, i thought i would be better safe than sorry and smothered my phone with antiviral gel. But it turns out that some hand gels and sanitisers and actually damage but it turns out that some hand gels and sanitisers can actually damage the oliophobic, oil repelling layer on your phone screen which is supposed to keep fingerprints off. So check this out. If i put my phone next one that has the layer intact, you can see that this one looks like ive been eating pizza off it. Its covered in fingerprint and oil. This one does have some fingerprints on it still, but not nearly as many. And now, if i wipe down this phone with a microfibre cloth, the fingerprints come off super easy. And if i try this one, some of the oil comes off but you can see it is still really smeary. And as a final test, if i pop my fingerprints on there. You can see that this is absolutely gross and this one not nearly as dirty. So how can you clean your phone without damaging it . Well, this week, i met with microbiologist dr lana ciric and she told me how. You dont actually need to use antibacterial or antiviral products on your phone, you can just use simple soap and water. Unplug your phone, turn it off and remove the case. Dampen a microfibre cloth with water and household soap. Gently rub the surfaces of the phone with the damp cloth. Take care not to get moisture in any of the openings because even water resistant phones lose their protection over time. Finally, dry your phone with a clean microfibre cloth. We havent used any anti bacterial or antiviral gel on this phone so how do we know they are clean . Well, we can use these swabs and this device which tells us the level of microbial activity on the phone in relative light units or rlus. So the higher number we get, the higher number of germs. The results are pretty good. So we would want a surgical surface to have a rating of 50 or less and all of the phones have readings of less than this, so thats pretty good. So theyre significantly cleaner, with just soap and water . Yep, they are. And how is that possible without using antiviral gel . Whats going on here . The main ingredient in soap, which is a detergent, which is basically lifting off the grease and the grime and the germs from the surface of the phone, which is then rinsed off with water and thats what makes it clean. There are a few other ways you can clean your phone safely. This week, apple changed its guidance and said if you have an iphone, you can safely wipe it with a 70 isopropyl alcohol wipe the kind you can get from computer shops or online if they havent sold out. There are also devices that can sterilise your phone using ultraviolet uv c radiation. This one is called phonesoap and costs about £80 although there are cheaper ones available. What you do is pop your phone inside and let it cook for about ten minutes. The manufacturer says it shouldnt harm your device but some phones or cases could be discoloured over time. Finally, what can you do if, like me, you have stripped the oil repelling coating off your phones screen . Well, there are some ways to fix it. First of all, you can get a screen replacement, although that is not going to be the cheapest option. Or you could stick on one of those glass screen protectors which is a quick and easy way to fix the screen. Or you can try this, its called liquidnano and this wipe puts a silica dioxide coating over the display which says it will restore the oliophobic properties for 12 months. It cost between £20 and £30 and you have to let it set on the phone for at least half an hour. So i tried it out on the phone i ruined and i have to say it seems to have done a pretty good job so thats one solution to what could have been an expensive mistake. Just remember that if you do clean your phone, as soon as you touch it, youre putting germs back on it again and the most important advice remains to wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. That is it for the short version of this weeks click. As ever, the full version can be found on the bbc iplayer. You can keep up with the team throughout the week on instagram, facebook, youtube and twitter at bbcclick. Thanks for watching. Good morning welcome to breakfast with Charlie Stayt and rachel burden. Our headlines today. Plans to ban Mass Gatherings are being drawn up to curb the spread of coronavirus. The measures could come into force next week. Major sporting events around the world have been cancelled. It may be a saturday, but there will be no foot all here at league one Tranmere Rovers or anywhere else in the elite british football until april four at the earliest. Protecting the most vulnerable. The government issues advice to help people with special care needs. Im very worried. Because as it stands if i were to contract coronavirus whos going to step in and do the very personal care which both of them need . I cant leave it to a friend or neighbour, it has to be to a care professional and, unfortunately, they are a very rare breed. Good morning. Its a bit of a messy picture, the weather for saturday. We may well start off with some rain but that eases away to sunny spells and scattered showers. Strengthening winds and rain, though, will arrive from the west a little later on this afternoon. And ill have all the details coming up shortly. Good morning. Its saturday the 14th of march. Our top story Mass Gatherings could be banned from as early as next week under new plans being drawn up by ministers. The move, which marks a shift in the governments position, is designed to ease the burden on emergency services. It comes as the number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in the uk has risen to 11. John mcmanus has the story. This time last weekend, britain was still in the containment phase of the outbreak. Now, with 11 deaths and nearly 800 confirms infections, new measures have been introduced to slow the spread of the virus. This means local and mayoral elections will be moved next year. All premiership football has been suspended until april. In this weekends six nations has also been kicked into touch. Prisoners who catch the virus may also have to be isolated in special accommodation. And the uk government may be about to go further. The bbc understands that it will follow scotlands lead next week and ban all Mass Gatherings. Sources say its not a change of heart on the science, although they are concerned about the burden big events may put on Health Services and the police. For now schools remain open, but some European Countries have closed theirs. The labour party has welcomed the measures, but says the prime ministers decisions must be more transparent. When members of the public are getting in touch with us, raising their concerns, telling us that they dont think theres enough information coming out, asking us questions which i believe are legitimate questions about why is ireland going down one route and why is france going on one particular route and we are not, i think we have a duty as an opposition to be raising those concerns. With more than 1002 deaths in italy, a 50 jump in fatalities in spain, and the closure of borders in denmark, ukraine, and poland, much of europes normal life has stopped. Europe has now become the epicentre of the pandemic, with more reported cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined. The Foreign Office is warning against all but essential travel to italy, poland, and some parts of spain. And the advice here is clear if you have a new, persistent cough, or a fever, stay at home and isolate yourself. John mcmanus, bbc news. Lets get more now on the news that Mass Gatherings may be banned from as early as next week. Our political correspondent, matt cole, joins us now from our london newsroom. There were a lot of people saying following the governments decision not to ban Mass Gatherings, about timing this. Why is it not being done now . As recently as yesterday the government ministers and chief scientific advisor was saying it is not the right time. What is changing . Hi, charlie. Look, the government says that nothing has changed as such, that they still intend to do everything in the right time. So they would say within their plans already they had suggested that they would potentially be a time when this would be needed. The chief scientific advisor has always said that he doesnt think that banning Mass Gatherings would necessarily slow the spread of the virus. So government sources we have spoken to suggesting its not actually about a change of on that. What this is, they say, is taking the strain of the emergency services. The police and nhs who actually have a role in big gatherings, be that the policing of crowds, or being on standby in case of incidence. This will theoretically ease a bit of pressure that way. But what we dont know is what the size and the scale of this will be. Scotland have used a figure of 500 people to represent a mass gathering. We dont know if the same figure will be used on a uk wide basis. The government suggested could be as early as next week it could be as early as next week it could happen. But, again, we dont know if it will be soon. Emergency legislation is going through the commons soon. We will see that legislation this week and then we will be able to maybe flesh this out a little bit more. For the moment, thank you. So whats happening in the rest of europe . Our reporter sima kotecha is in rome. Sima, whats life like for italians on lockdown . Well, rachel, ithink well, rachel, i think this pretty strange for many people. Italians are incredibly sociable people, warm and tactile. Now they have been told they cant mingle and socialise and move around the country freely. Their movement has been restricted, u nless their movement has been restricted, unless they have special permission. If they do break those rules they could face jail or a fine. So there isa could face jail or a fine. So there is a real sense of trepidation here. It is eerily quietjust looking around rome. There is no traffic, there arent people walking around, it is saturday morning and it has been like this for the last couple of days. Looking at this statistics, we know that more than 1200 people have died, most of those fatalities have died, most of those fatalities have been in the north, and more than 17,000 cases. But there is a glimmer of hope. This does that came out yesterday showed that the rate of increase in infections has slowed down for the first time. So many are hoping that is a downward trend. We will find out when the daily figures are released later today. Thank you very much. Guy hedgecoe is in madrid. Bring us up to date with the situation there. Good morning. Im madrid region, just outside the capital city itself. Madrid has been very much the focus of concern for the authorities. It has seen around half of the 5000 coronavirus cases we have seen so far. It has seen well over half of the 130 deaths we have had as well. As of today, in the madrid region, all bars, restau ra nts, the madrid region, all bars, restaurants, cafe s, Public Places are essentially shut down, unless they are offering an essential service, even shops, in many cases, ive been shut down unless they are selling food. Pharmacies will remain open. But madrid is very much, pretty much in lockdown. People are still able to come into the city and the region and leave it, but in all other census people are being told to stay at home, avoid meeting, going out into the street. Things are very going out into the street. Things are very quiet. There is a feeling of uncertainty. People dont know how long this will last. Although, in theory, this is a measure that is going to last for two weeks. Thank you very much. Guy hedgecoe reporting from madrid this morning. Meanwhile, a National Emergency has been declared in the United States as the number of deaths there has risen to 47. The move allows President Trump to access up to £40 billion in emergency funding. Today also sees the president s plan to ban travel to and from 26 European Countries come into effect. Yeah, it is me. No, it is me. It is in excess of £40 million they raise last night. Last time they ran sport relief it was around 38 million. A huge congratulations, in pretty challenging circumstances. Richard curtis, one of the founders, closely involved all the way along the line, will bejoining us on the sofa later on this morning. It is coming up to nine minutes past seven. Italians in quarantine arent letting coronavirus get in the way of some good Old Fashioned music making. Tweets have surfaced showing people in sicily, which is under heavy lockdown, taking to their balconies and windows to perform together. Its thought the trend came from a deserted street in siena where a video emerged of people singing a popular folk song. They have literally got any instrument or implement they could find to play music on. Can we listen in . How familiar are you with italian folk music . That one i dont know. But it is just a moment of lifting the spirits in what are clearly very challenging times. And they know quite a lot of people are getting in touch this morning with this programme talking about what they will do in the absence of sporting events and other gatherings that have been cancelled. People are talking about just that have been cancelled. People are talking aboutjust doing other stuff stop loads going on. They will read you a couple. Im a cardiac physiologist performing tests on vulnerable cardiac patients every day. So why am distancing myself from society where possible on my days off. The weekend will be watching fame and sound, most likely. And this one from, my elderly widow and mother had a panic attack on the night. An ambulance was called. Isolation can be awful for her Mental Health so we are going to cheer up. People with difficult decisions about whether to visit elderly relatives. We will be talking about social distancing later on this morning and the issue of how do you balance up going to see someone, of how do you balance up going to see someone, elderly, for example, not seeing them, making sure they dont feel isolated. Were talking about the issues people be facing making those decisions. Were going to talk about that right now. We are being to socially distance, particularly from those who might be vulnerable in order to stop the spread of the virus. In practice that means keeping space between people in Public Places and maybe not shaking hands. John maguires been speaking to businesses in bristol to see how theyve been adapting to a new normal. Diners arriving at the urban tandoor in bristol are left under no illusions. These are far from ordinary days. This time 12 months ago the restaurant was packed with race goers from the nearby cheltenham festival, but not this year. Behaviour is changing. We are back to the pattern of mumbai, no more handshakes. People try to keep distance. If anybody is coughing they just run distance. If anybody is coughing theyjust run away. You can see the change. They dont want to set post to each other. Its all happening. You can definitely see the changes. They have decided to offer free food and delivery to those with the virus who are self isolating and give their drivers very clear instructions. We leave the delivery outside. Once we reach their we give a call and the drivers need to follow the cautionary measures, the gloves, the face mask, and once they are back they need to wash their hands. They dont come in contact with the guest at any point in time. Some businesses are taking the initiative to protect their staff and customers. But this vehicle repair garage in ipswich staff are being monitored closely for any signs of illness. The coronavirus is coming. Its not if, its when. And i think there is a lot of apathy out there where people arent taking this seriously and, as a company director, ive got a duty of care two, first of all, my family, my extended family, which is my team, and, obviously, all my customers. Could small changes make a big difference . This polite notice at a School Parents evening reminds people of the new normal. The owner of this cafe in bristol is half italian, so being in touch with family in tuscany she understands fully what might happen and is thinking how best to adapt to a rapidly changing situation. Our tables, for example, are fixed to the wall, so we cant make them any further apart. But working next to such a big office means that if we have large crowds coming in, maybe we will try to stagger that, if the officer staggers that it may be even easierfor officer staggers that it may be even easier for us, officer staggers that it may be even easierfor us, actually. Hopefully it will remain a sane, rational set of instructions, rather than any panic based protocols, although im not seeing that in ireland. Hopefully the same goes for england. So keep calm and carry on, its what we do best. But this is a challenge like no other in our modern history. Today everythings different and tomorrow it may well change again. It is absolutely fascinating to think of what impact this is having on our behaviours individually and with other people. Andrea chatten, whos an emotional and behavioural psychologist, joins us along withjulia samuel, whos a psychotherapist and author. Welcome to both of you. Does this outbreak bring out the best in us all the worst in us . I have seen a bit of both. Weve seen people checking in with each other, offering to help each other out keeping an eye out for more Vulnerable People. But, equally, we have seen very selfish attitudes towards things like toilet roll, Hand Sanitisers, paracetamol. What do you think . I think it pulls us in both directions. On the one hand we wa nt to both directions. On the one hand we want to survive. But on the other hand it forces us to kind of look at life again about what really matters and what matters is those that we love and care about and also we are in something together that kind of levels us all out and it takes us away from our kind of obsession of netting through our own particular target. It might make us be kind and more connected to people. So i think it does both. It would appear, andrea, looking away at how people are living mellows, that people are living mellows, that people are living mellows, that people are able to cope. Some of it is outside of your control, things to do with the governments planning and that kind of thing, in terms of how we are with each other. When i spoke about this a couple of weeks ago i think there was an ambivalence about people kind of like do ambivalence about people kind of like do i need to do this or not need to do this and some people were on the heightened side of going into more panic and some people were like it is going to be fine and even in the last couple of weeks i think that people are moving more to now recognising the need to do the action and we need to make sure that we keep that action in the right kind of place and move it to getting what we need from this situation but not moving into an unhealthy bracket. We talk a lot about changing behaviours and we heard about the Government Consulting behaviourist about encouraging us to change our patterns of living and in particular when it comes to personal hygiene and hand washing. But how long does it actually take to develop new habits like that . How do we do it . It takes a long time, actually. Normally with what is happening with this is we are being externally motivated to try to change these behaviours and we have all been touching our faith and doing these things that we do instinctively, emotionally it is pa rt of instinctively, emotionally it is part of our everyday life. So part of this, breaking that behaviour, is first of all, noticing we do it but what we are missing or what we have been missing is there are a couple of stages before behaviour change, there is a precontemplation stage where we are not really aware of the issue. Then there is a contemplation stage where we kind of sit in that and we recognise that maybe we need to do something different. But what has happened with this is the government has thrust us to the action stage without us having had that contemplation stage. However i do think we are now, because of the information we have been getting, people are more committed to doing these behaviours now. So we are seeing more positive action to try and prevent the further spread of it rather than, before people may be being a little bit too blase. Do not know how this is evidence but on the face of it it would seem that the most Vulnerable People, which in this situation are elderly, often the most stoical. I think they do have a bit of a spirit that may be some of us have a bit of a spirit that may be some of us younger have a bit of a spirit that may be some of us younger well, i am not a younger but the younger ones may not have and i think they are not so expressive of how they feel, they do not wonder about how they feel, they are much more lets get on and keep going, keep calm and carry on, and so going, keep calm and carry on, and so that will serve them in many ways but it will also, if they shut down too much, it would do them harm to. It is interesting that point, isolation in these situations and if we are talking about large numbers of people for all the right reasons, you know my being in their own homes for a period of seven days or so and it would include older people who would possibly be already isolated. There are real risks around that, arent they . Mental Health Issues and your immune system breaks down when you are isolated and being connected to people is one of the Big Life Health benefits. And some of them will not have ipads or computers to go online with people so computers to go online with people so they will have to do it by telephone so they will have to do as much as they can by telephone to connect with people so that they do not because when you are on your own you build up these stories in your head on your own but can get bigger and bigger until you kind of pick your own funeral very fast. So you need other people to help kind of bring you back to reality help you ta ke bring you back to reality help you take a breath, calm you down, you know, and in real terms, take a breath, calm you down, you know, and in realterms, it take a breath, calm you down, you know, and in real terms, it is like lets make a cup of tea, lets be nice to each other and do a jigsaw puzzle and distract yourself. What i think its fascinating here is the government is trying to keep a lid on this and take things quite piecemeal. A different approach to other countries. And yet it feels like the country is moving ahead one step ahead of what the government is suggesting an already starting to kind of social distance. How long do you think we can buy into that for before people start getting frustrated and particularly if there is an impact on the economy, peoples incomes are being hit, real stressors about how they are going to survive financially through this period . It is just, to survive financially through this period . It isjust, that is what worries me, were kind of pulling together now but one or two months down the line, do the cracks begin to show . I think it is going to have a big on well being. People tend to be quite good in a crisis and i think we are seeing that, people are pulling together and interestingly, again, over the past few weeks i have noticed what used to be kind of like an uncomfortable handshake even with people, i have met some head teachers in schools this week and we are going straight in for the, you know, and elements of humour coming in and resilience at this time of crisis but our emotions tend to have a bit ofa crisis but our emotions tend to have a bit of a lag so when this does start moving a little bit into more, we mightfind start moving a little bit into more, we might find we all go that was a tough time and the impact of it and we start to feel it then. Good to see you both here this morning, andrea and julia, thank you so much and im sure we will talk ahead. |j feel like we need you every day, to be honest, the moment. Well talk about the behaviours that you can do to help calm you down when you felt panicked. Give us one tip then. If you go outside, do some kind of there is a 12 minute up when you get your heart rate up because your body and your anxiety feels like fear and if you take exercise it tells your body you have flown so it comes your whole body down. They get moving is a great. And follow it with a breathing exercise where you breathe in 47, at 411, because you want to do, you need endurance and keep the syste m do, you need endurance and keep the system regulated in for seven. Keep it calm when you have no control over everything else. In for seven, our for control over everything else. In for seven, ourfor11. Control over everything else. In for seven, our for. One other control over everything else. In for seven, our for 11. One other thing is try to focus your attention on today and tomorrow and do not project into the future because you can drive yourself mad. And be kind to yourself, do not be too harsh, we have to touch a face. Be kind. You both very much. Thank you both very much. As the number of global infections tops 130,000 many European Countries are taking radical steps to stem the spread of coronavirus. Italy is in complete lockdown, while at least ten other eu countries are introducing border closures. So what does that mean for those of us planning an overseas trip . Lets speak now to travel writer, phoebe smith, whojoins us from morzine in france. Morzine, is it . Yes, i am in morzine in france. You made this decision that you were going on holiday regardless and didnt feel terribly to you . No, because i was coming on this trip and it was the first holiday i have taken it as a travel writer in ten years but also, i am training and writer in ten years but also, i am training and i need to get to the snow to practise but before i came i checked the advice and make sure it was safe to travel and there were no restrictions and also i was in a space with a problem that a lot of us are now that it is ok to go now but what happens if there is a quarantine and i cannot get home mr mark that is one of the biggest risks and i meant to fly home this evening but we will see what happens. Everything changes thought of by the hour really. It is fine if youre in that situation where you can be flexible with work or care or whatever your response abilities are and my parents are due to go to lisbon in a couple of weeks and decided not to, they are in an older category and may imagine many people may be that. If you cancel, what are your rights . It depends, what we are seeing if the advice is telling you you cannot travel or it is only essential travel than you automatically will be covered because it is not your fault you cannot travel and what we are seeing is even a lot of companies are offering for you to rebook or reschedule or offer a full refund. Travel insurance policies, check those make sure that you are covered but the problem we are having is if your destination you are going to is not on at risk and listed as not to travel there, this is kind of class by most travel companies as a disinclination to travel rather than you cannot travel. That may change for example where you mentioned your pa rents, for example where you mentioned your parents, if for medical reasons adopt would say yes they should not travel because of the risk, you probably would be covered doctor would say. A lot of companies have put on extra help and phone lines just to deal with the coronavirus. And very briefly, if you were desperate to go on holiday at the moment and it was not being socially irresponsible to do so, it was there anywhere in the world you would go . Well, yeah, look at the fco and see where not too many cases and see where not too many cases and see where they are saying it is located travel and if you go to quite remote places, i have a place a trip coming up to arctic canada, it is going ahead because the chance is so low there and as long as you have not had any symptoms of into a high risk country than they say you are all right to go so i think it is, you know, we can still go away but we have to be a little more mindful of not necessarily ourselves but other people we may impact and lets not forget how important the Tourism Industry is to all of these communities and without it, everyone faces financial ruin as well which is really not conducive for the whole world. Quite, thank you very much indeed. The tourist industry being really, really badly, understandably quite affected. What were doing across bbc is answer questions you this morning, at ten past eight specific to care, a lot of people are worried about what will happen in care homes with their loved ones who they may be look after on a regular basis and Helen Whately became minister is joining us at ten minutes past eight so issues around that and please get them to us and then just after nine oclock, we are putting together one of our panels, a doctor, psychologist and someone who is knowledgeable about cleaning because a lot of questions about, you know, how do you efficiently clean your home or your workplace to try and not make all your phone. The phone all of those things. Were going to talk about cracked hands as well in that section of the programme. From over washing . Completely the good news is though that there is a little bit of decent weather on the horizon i think, louise, isnt there . I mean if you are contemplating the idea of having to work from home or maybe spending more time at home into the latter stages of the week ahead, it looks likely to be dry and settled. Rain around at the moment. This weather front arrives through the night and it will continue to push its way steadily eastwards. What about afternoon for many. Before the next area of low pressure arrives late on today and it will bring more wet and windy weather with it as well. For the weekend ahead, it really does look as though it is a little bit of everything, little bit of rain around and went as well but also some drier, brighter weather too. For the rest of the day, this rain still has to clear. Some of it has been quite heavy but it is starting to wea ke n been quite heavy but it is starting to weaken off and it is moving steadily eastwards so if you have woken up and there is rain around were not expecting it to last. It should start to ease off into the east coast and then behind it, something a little bit brighter and maybe even glimpses of sunshine as we towards lunchtime. Bear that in mind. Eventually though into Northern Ireland and western fringes of scotland, more wet and windy weather slowly arrives. But with a little bit of brightness and a southerly wind at least the temperatures are up on yesterday, highs of 12 14 for many. Wet and windy weather sweeps its way through scotla nd windy weather sweeps its way through scotland overnight. Then the heaviest of the rain as we go through the night will focus down through the night will focus down through north west england, wales and south west england. 30 40 millimetres of rain not out of the question. The cloud, wind and rain around, it will be a mild night with temperatures only around 4 9. It does mean on sunday this low pressure really influences the story. For england and wales we will see a spell of wet weather, slowly pushing its way into the south east corner. It will take its time in doing so so maybe east anglia and the south east is dry for much of the south east is dry for much of the day and then behind a northerly wind kexin which will drive in some showers and a noticeable difference with the feel of the weather with gusts of winds at times 45 miles an hour or even excess of that so chilly. Temperatures in scotland sitting around 5 eight and further south and east before the rain arrives, we should see a maximum of 12. The good news now. Yes, it does look as though we will see a few whether front for a time at the beginning of the week but the middle of the week, High Pressure is set to build and so there is going to be a good deal of dry weather in the forecast for the coming future weather front. I have forecast for the coming future weatherfront. I have not been able to say that since the middle of september last year so one or two weather fronts are beginning to bring us a little bit of light, patchy rain but then generally speaking dry, settled and sunny weather. Back to you two. 16 degrees louise look at that we are talking about hand washing and just, we have flirt is coming on later on. She has been talking about hand washing and has put it to music in a way. Ok. This is a psa, listen carefully that this is a day that we take action with any interaction so before you get closer, with some anti vaxxer on, it is important you look out for the vigilant science. Let me give you some lyrics. Repeated. Take your right hand, take your left hand, sprinkle lots of water and do the hand dance. Give the soap a squirt, give it a work, work. She is brilliant. She is on the radio and thatis brilliant. She is on the radio and that is why you see her right there she will be in later to talk about her new album and i do not think that song is featured. And that was not proper hand washing Health Warning around that not the way to do it she will be with us a little later on and we look forward to it and right now, we will take a break. Headlines coming up in a moment. That is the final figure, the 40 million figure. Quite extraordinary. Many people enjoying the events last night. Congratulations to all those involved. Including, of course, mike busheu involved. Including, of course, mike bushell who i believe was answering the phones until quite late last night, taking in, pledging money, a number of people on the phones. You whether. I was. It number of people on the phones. You whether. Iwas. It was number of people on the phones. You whether. I was. It was a great atmosphere, answering the phones along with others. We had some quick as you saw there. It was good to help. It was a late night but also left my coat there soa in braving the cold. This afternoon, the tranmere players should be walking out here as foot callers right across the uk should be doing. They be running out at three oclock this afternoon. Tony is here this afternoon. Tony is here this afternoon regardless even though all pretty silly footballers because of the coronavirus. It would have been a crucial game for tranmere. They have won three on the trott and a bottom of league one. They were trying to kickstart their season once more. Just over there, beyond the sand, about six miles away, as goodison park stand. Liverpool we re goodison park stand. Liverpool were hoping to take a giant step there this weekend on monday towards winning theirfirst there this weekend on monday towards winning their First League Title in 20 years the game against everton. Jurgen klopps side, 25 points at the top of the premier league, now there are real questions about what will happen to the rest of the season. Let us talk to the managing director who has joined us let us talk to the managing director who hasjoined us earlier this morning in the dugout. Im not sure if you are used to being in the managers dug out. Youre not managing today. What was your reaction, were you shocked or not surprised after the arsenal manager was diagnosed with the coronavirus and clubs like everton, indeed, arsenal, chelsea, insult isolation because outbreaks of the virus. |j think it highlighted footballers arent untouchable. When it happens on your patch, we knew it would come. The news came yesterday and the clubs responded in the proper way to do. We are following the guidance and the best way to protect people and make sure they are healthy. But very much so we are trying to keep business as usual where possible. A big part for tranmere was our non football business as well. So we are making sure we can keep those activities running and keep momentum with the clu b running and keep momentum with the club and get prepared for next season as well. The club shop is still open. It is open longer hours thanit still open. It is open longer hours than it would have been on a normal non match day, but fans are saying they will come in and buy season tickets for next year, pick their seeds, use the time to make the most of that. We are taking precautions to make sure the anti bacteria, the sprays, everything we need. You are saying your Community Projects are going to continue, business as usual in terms of your work with the community full up the Community Programme is really big here. What people are saying is please dont stop people are saying is please dont sto p u nless people are saying is please dont stop unless you have to. Isolation is something that affects a lot of people in this area we have put a lot of activities in place to ensure they are getting out once a week, seeing people, they are getting food if they need to. What they were saying is unless we really have to, please dont stop that. One gentleman said on thursday that coming here once a week is the only time he gets out of the house. We are reviewing a daily, following the guidance, we work closely with our local nhs, so as well as the guidance from various places we are speaking to our local nhs about how we can be keep people safe but if possible keep it as normal as possible. How financially worried are you about what will happen with foot all of now until the beginning of april at the earliest . Or would it have been worst to have matches played behind closed doors . There are two sides to that. A financial element will hit local and lower leg clu bs. Element will hit local and lower leg clubs. It will hit hard. There is the financial impact, but secondly, a lot of the side round football is the comes fans coming and enjoying it. We get 6000 people for every game. Is it the same if they are not here and it is played behind the scenes . I think the concerns are how long this will go on for any financial consequences of that. For example, we have put a lot of work into International People coming into International People coming into the area, so the derby on monday, people were coming here because they come for a weekend of football now. It is the unseen costs we dont realise. Stay with us and maybe we will touch you at the end. We now go to sussex and speak to kieran maguire, university of liverpool football finance expert. Hello. How costly do you think this will be, especially to the Football League clu bs . Clubs . I think for league one only two were probably talking in the region of up to £400,000 in lost income before the end of the season, if they have 5 six home matches. That will vary from club to club. Some are chasing promotion, there are giant clubs such as sunderland and portland in those leagues as well. The main issues as far as those clubs are concerned is in terms of cash flow. Even if the matches are both owned, was still potentially got the three week out for certain and that could be extended further. How other clubs going to pay their wages . How will pay their suppliers . How other clu bs . Pay their suppliers . How other clubs . You would hope some of bigger clu bs clubs . You would hope some of bigger clubs in the premier league, if they have outstanding transfer fees to the lower leg clubs they could accelerate them or they could set up some sort of interest free loans scheme or even a donation to the smaller clubs to show they are all pa rt smaller clubs to show they are all part of the football family. Does it get worse the longer this goes on . So the suspension of the season was to last into may orjune . Yes. There isa to last into may orjune . Yes. There is a saying in finance, income is vanity, cash flow is reality. If you defer the dates to which matches are going to be returned i think many clu bs a re going to be returned i think many clubs are going to struggle significantly. We already saw in february both sound and south end and united and Macclesfield Town failed to pay their clubs. They are reliant on the reliable a few thousand people turning up, as well as the away fans. And you also have to ta ke as the away fans. And you also have to take into consideration the staff involved at the clubs. Many of whom are on part time or zero hours contracts, if they are selling programmes, if they are part of the catering team, if they are stewards and so on. And they are reliant upon the income they get from football clu bs the income they get from football clubs at this basis to pay their own bills as well. Yesterday at cheltenham, i was talking to football fa ns cheltenham, i was talking to football fans worried about the season would not be finished. Suppose that is the doomsday scenario for some people, do they finish the season as the tables stand now, but there may be the relegated clubs could take legal action, or do you make the season null and void . Imagine liverpool, leeds united, west brom, potentially going out from the championship. Leeds united, west brom, potentially going out from the championshiplj going out from the championship. think that has been discussed in many legal quarters. The view is there is no right answer. It would have to go to court to be resolved. If the premier league and the efl did decide to cancel the season somebody is going to be a winner and somebody is going to be a winner and somebody is going to be a winner and somebody is going to be a loser out of all of this. If you take the financial implications of promotion and relegation, going up to the premier league is worth at least £100 million to an individual club. So clearly Leeds United Fans and those that west brom who are potentially going up at present, they are in the top two positions, they are in the top two positions, they would be devastated. Liverpool fans, they are the best team in the premier league the season, there is no doubt about that, and on that basis they deserve to win the premier league. If it was cancelled you could see them being disappointed and taking into consideration their legal options. We will have to leave it there. And so much to discuss. Thank you very much indeed. If the season is to be finished, that would involve probably putting the euros, the euro 2020 back until next year, 2021. There is a meeting of uefa on tuesday to discuss that. Back here at tranmere, vital they finish the season because if it ended now you would be relegated. It is absolutely critical. And we are on a good run. So disappointing from a foot or point of view. The business, the shop, all the scandinavian fans to come down, and there is another spot on, badminton, bowskill, annette brooke, which you may go to. Netball is still playing. And netball. There is no football here today. In the National League there are still some matches, third place, notts cou nty some matches, third place, notts county at home too easily as one game that is still on. Thank you. We will talk to you later. We are going to nottingham now. One of the citys teams have had their much postponed, another is on, how are the fans reacting, sam . A very good morning. It isa reacting, sam . A very good morning. It is a tale of two cities, as you say. Just over their nottingham forest, was behind me as county play. Forest, was behind me as county play, that game is going on, that game is being cancelled. We talked to tom who runs the pub where we are. It is a big blow to you in terms of takings when a game is cancelled like the forrest game. That is the case. Forrest were playing away today so it would have more effect on the City Centre Pubs where fans were frequented before going to sheffield. We have notts cou nty going to sheffield. We have notts county still on so we should benefit from that right nicely. The next two games were home games for forrest. That will have an impact on you. Unfortunately. Public health comes first. We have to recognise that a deal with it accordingly. Over here we have tom and andy. Tom is a cou nty we have tom and andy. Tom is a county fan. You are going to the game today. How do you feel about that . Absolutely fine. Im into good health and dont fall into the age risk category. Itll be good to go to the game today. If they wasnt feeling very well i wouldnt go to the game out of consideration for other people if i wasnt. The game out of consideration for other people if i wasnt. You we re other people if i wasnt. You were going to go away today with forrest, how disappointed are you . am disappointed because they have friends in sheffield and we were going over for a few beers before and after, but they agree with tom, health comes first. We are going to have a disappointment, we have a good run and are in a good place in the league, but we have some injuries that might help us. You think may be a break could help the players recover a little bit and you could start again in a couple of weeks . That is my thinking. What about county, you are doing very well. We are on a promotion push. It is good for us to keep the momentum going because we have one last few matches. But, of course, if we dont finish, if we finish the season in the Football League dont finish their season, there is an me if we are promotion but other teams havent finished and they are not relegated what happens then . There might be the chance that all events will be cancelled. The government is meeting today to discuss that. So this might be your last game, we just dont know. Absolutely. The uncertainty is mind boggling, really, the disconnect between the higher echelons of the game in the lower divisions are staggering. The premier league and the Football League eye doing one thing and the others doing another are doing. Would you be prepared for monday to go across the road to the county ground . It is not a thing i think would be very good for my health. That game kicks off at three oclock. As we say, tom will be there and we willjust see, hopefully you will win. You are getting in touch with us to tell us what you are getting up to for the weekend and keep swimming, gymnastics, taxi, beer and takeaway later. Hashtag keep calm and carry on. Assuming you are not confined to your house which most people are not, you may want to get outdoors and that is a place to be, louise. How about it . Tell you what, in comparison to the last few weekends it is not that bad but there is some rain around. We have seen this weather front through the early hours of this morning easing its way off to the east but behind it, actually, we will see a good deal of dry weather before the next area of low pressure arrives during the night so there is some rain around this weekend but it is not a right of by any means, but we can forecast. Winds will be a feature as well. Taking a look at the rainfall in the last couple of hours. Some was quite heavy particularly across the midlands and the south east of england but in the last hour it is starting to ease away and we are expecting an improvement as we go through the morning. So if you are up through the morning. So if you are up and off early, yes, some rain around at the moment i know but behind it you can see the clearance so brightening up, maybe even some glimpses of sunshine through this afternoon if you are lucky. Northern ireland may be starting to turn increasingly wet and windy by the end of the day but elsewhere, not a bad afternoon for many. 8 14 the high soa bad afternoon for many. 8 14 the high so a little bit warmer than the last couple of days. Then we see more wet and windy weather arrived. He pushes into scotland to start and by the end of the night the heaviest will be through north west england and wales. One 1. 5 inches of rain not out of the question. With all of the cloud around it will prevent those temperatures from falling too low but it does mean that tomorrow we could start off with some rain and this low pressure really influencing the story. The winds quite a feature, some of the rain quite a feature, some of the rain quite heavy as it moves its way through the midlands, out of south wales, along that south coast. Maybe east anglia and london, not arriving here until the middle to the end of the afternoon. Behind it, winds will stay quite a feature, a cold northerly and that will drive in plenty of frequent showers so a noticeable difference to the feel of the weather, particularly with gusts of winds 50 miles an hour on the exposed coast of scotland. Here only five or six degrees but further south, we could keep double digits. Moving out of sunday into the start of the new working week we have some wea k of the new working week we have some weak weather fronts that i got cross and bringing outbreaks of light rain at the beginning of the week but High Pressure is set to build and one that builds, it is likely to stay with us for a few days at least, maybe more if were lucky so it does mean generally once we get the light rain out of the through the light rain out of the through the beginning of the week, from wednesday onwards it is dry, settle m e nt wednesday onwards it is dry, settlement sunny right across the country. Back to you two. Thank you so much and thank you to everyone who has been getting in touch through the course of the morning, telling us what they are doing this weekend and how coronavirus is changing their plans. I am off to a wedding today and last night i dropped a letter to my neighbours setting up a Community Group in case anyone needs support and if anything else this is let me know more of my neighbours than i did before. Communities pulling together. A few of those thought processes were people are thinking what can you get thatis people are thinking what can you get that is good out of this situation and that is one of those things that is worth saying, it is ten past eight to coming up shortly, speaking to the care minister Helen Whately, specific issues they around how Vulnerable People could be, the disabled or the elderly, for example, might be helped in the event of things getting worse. We speak to her later at ten past eight. We will be back with the headlines at eight oclock. Now its time for newswatch. Hello and welcome to newswatch with me, rebecca jones, standing inforsamira. On the programme more charges this week that the bbc could be inducing panic over coronavirus with its use of language and images. And how bbc news is reaching out to hear from a section of the audience its finding hard to appeal to, through its young reporter project. As the Significant Impact of coronavirus on our lives becomes increasingly apparent, bbc news has this week examined how thats manifesting itself notjust in terms of health and the world economy, but in terms of our Shopping Habits too. Footage like this of supermarket shelves empty of loo roll, Hand Sanitisers and other Household Essentials has been aired widely over the past few days, prompting some to question the value of such broadcasts. Wendy hemsley wrote to us last sunday the speed with which the virus has spread in italy and the measures taken as a result by the Italian Government have been a prominent feature of the weeks news agenda, and one word has been widely used to describe the restrictions imposed there on travel and movement. Up to 16 Million People, a quarter of the population, are effectively under lockdown in the north of the country. Italy is at war thats according to one doctor living through a lockdown. The whole of italy is now under a kind of lockdown with movement severely restricted. Tonight at 6 00, day one for italy in lockdown as it struggles with europes worst coronavirus outbreak. Phil horn wondered mike wharton thought and david kelly e mailed coronavirus was so pervasive on the news this week that even the budget seemed like something of a side issue. Many of the announcements in rishi sunaks speech on wednesday came as a surprise but some, as is normal, had been widely trailed or at least guessed at in the days leading up to the budget. And that infuriated andrew lane, who asked since 2007, the bbc has run a project which gives young people the chance to get involved with media workshops and training, and to tell their own stories online, on radio and on tv. Young reporter, which was previously known as school report, works with thousands of11 to 18 year olds and this week held its annual festival. Part of that was a celebration of those whod submitted stories they felt the bbc should be covering, with awards handed out to the winners. Heres one of those winners, morgan, with her report on upskirting the practice of taking images underneath of victims clothing without permission. Ive come to a school to talk to sixth formers about their awareness of upskirting. Im going to try and share my story to make sure that you know if you are ever put in a situation, how to get out of it, and how police can help you. I walked into my local Swimming Pool change rooms and i had photos taken of my bare body from underneath the wall of the changing room next to me. Well, im delighted to say we are joined now by morgan and also byjosie verghese, head of young reporter. Welcome to you both. Morgan, if i can start with you, what made you want to get involved with young reporter . I think its more when it happened to me, i thought that he was going to get a slap on the wrist for it. There was a study done and the 100 girls who were asked if they would have reported it, 52 of them said no which that has to change. That has to be all all of them have to report it now. Its now a crime, which is really good, and people have to know how to report it to police. So this was a story you felt that you wanted to tell, and i suppose what im asking is why you thought young reporter was the best way to tell it. I didnt know at first. I had a week left when i saw the tv advert. I thought why not . I may as well do it. And if it gets there then it gets there. Yeah, and whats been the response to the film . Amazing. Ive had over1 million views, Something Like 500 shares, loads of likes, loads of messages. A lot of people did not think it was a crime and now that they know, i think it was ever to happen to them, they know exactly what to do. And what if you got, more broadly speaking, out of the whole young reporter experience . Confidence. In year ten, i did a presentation at school and i was so nervous, i was shaking and sweating and i actually cried afterwards. This going on tv its out of my comfort zone but its given me so much confidence to deal with things. Josie, presumably youll be delighted to hear that. What are you hoping the scheme will achieve . Well, actually, those life skills are one of the things that we know is really valuable for lots of young people who take part and actually, we know that teachers really value getting involved with the project its not necessarilyjust about the journalism. But young reporter is an opportunity for young people to learn about media skills, the industry that we work in, but also, as morgan says, for her it was about youth voice, it was about being able to raise an issue that she felt our audiences should be hearing and seeing more about. In the era of fake news, how do you help these young people distinguish between what is real and what is not . Absolutely really important, and part of the News Literacy work that we do as part of the project, so we have worked a lot with colleagues in bbc news to try and help explain what we do in our dayjobs. And that actually, everyone has the power and the ability to question sources, to look at a range of sources, to understand where they are getting the news from. And we find that is really valuable again, particularly in an education context, something that teachers have been telling us that they are crying out for. How do you think the stories that young people want to tell differ from i put it in inverted commas is the normal bbc output. I think theyre much more personal, often. The competition gave young people the opportunity to suggest an idea that was about my life or our world, so they are coming from a unique perspective, being young people you and i are a lot older than morgan and the other young people, the 11 to 18 year olds that are involved in the project and they bring to their stories something that is unique to their generation, unique to their experience and education, all looking ahead to future careers or ambitions and that really comes across. Morgan, be honest do you watch or listen to bbc news . I do. Ido, yeah 0h what . We listen to the six oclock news, so those, like, leading up to 7 oclock, and i sometimes watch news in the morning as well whilst i am getting ready for college. And how much do you feel it speaks to you . Not a lot, not a lot. I think its more theres a lot of issues that would resonate with older people, i think. There is a lot about stock markets, businesses, mortgages. That does not impact on us a lot. I think there should be a segment during the news that should cover young peoples stories, so go out to schools and ask them, involve them, which means you would get more viewers of my age possibly. Thats interesting. Can you give us a sense of what those sorts of stories would be . I think theres a lot about Climate Change i think we have a massive passion for that. I think a lot of stories should be done in communities, so around schools and what the schools are doing. This is a problem, isnt it, for the bbc, encouraging young people to watch and listen to the news . Yeah, and that is obviously what young reporter tries to do, is to encourage young people to feel like they have a place within our news agendas and that they can see themselves reflected in the stories that they might be seeing, whether on tv or radio, local radio, on their phones and online. And that is why we think it is really important that we empower and give young people the ability to share their own stories so they can see themselves and their peers, and also young people tell us all the time i dont know what morgan thinks about this actually, some more positive news is really important to them, so actually kind of thinking about the news agenda in a different way. Morgan, whats your take on that . I think what i like about the news is when it sparks a conversation. I think instead of giving facts and facts and facts, give something that can spark a conversation at home with people, something that has different opinions. And i have to ask you has young reporter whetted your appetite for a career in journalism . I think id rather go down the physiotherapy route 0h i think that is more for me at the moment. Ok, well, look, morgan and josie verghese, thank you both so much. Thank you thanks. Thanks for all of your comments this week. Until the next time, from me and the rest of the team, bye bye. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with Charlie Stayt and rachel burden. Our headlines today plans to ban Mass Gatherings are being drawn up to curb the spread of coronavirus. The measures could come into force next week. Good into force next week. Morning, major sporting eve around good morning, major sporting events around the world have been cancelled. It may be a saturday but no football here today, or indeed any other elite british football now until april the 4th at the earliest. Good coming up shortly. Morning. Its saturday the 14th of march. Our top story. Mass gatherings could be banned from as early as next week under new plans being drawn up by ministers. The move is designed to ease the burden on emergency services. This mays local and mayoral elections will be moved next year. All premiership football has been suspended until april. And this weekends six nations has also been kicked into touch. Prisoners who catch the virus may also have to be isolated in special accommodation. And the uk government may be about to go further. The bbc understands that it will follow scotlands lead next week and ban all Mass Gatherings. Sources say its not a change of heart on the science, however they are concerned about the burden big events may put on Health Services and the police. For now schools remain open, but some European Countries have closed theirs. The labour party has welcomed the measures, but says the prime ministers decisions must be more transparent. When members of the public are getting in touch with us, raising their concerns, telling us that they dont think theres enough information coming out, asking us questions which i believe are legitimate questions about why is ireland going down one route and why is france going down one particular route and we are not, i think we have a duty as an opposition to be raising those concerns. With more than 1,200 deaths in italy, a 50 jump in fatalities in spain, and the closure of borders in denmark, ukraine, and poland, much of europes normal life has stopped. So whats happening in the rest of europe . Our reporter sima kotecha is in rome. Sima, whats life like for italians on lockdown . How are they coping with the ongoing situation . Italians are incredible tactile and sociable people and now suddenly they have been told they cannot mix, they cannot socialise, they need to stay at home. Shops are shut, the only ones that are open all supermarkets and pharmacies. It isa all supermarkets and pharmacies. It is a very difficult picture for some people. Im going to try and show you some of rome now, ijust sprung this on my camera so bear with me. It is very quiet, until usually at this time on a saturday people are roaming the streets, they are not doing that at the moment. It is something out of a movie set, i a lwa ys something out of a movie set, i always quote the movie vanilla sky it is very quite. There are some experts who have arrived in rome from china with the medical advice, talking to doctors at the moment to see if there is something they can tell them to curb this virus. We know the death toll is an pleasing daily and we saw the egg is daily jump daily and we saw the egg is daily jump yesterday, so a lot of curiosity about the daily figures which will be due out later tonight. Thank you very much. President trump has declared a National Emergency in america after more than 1700 confirmed coronavirus cases and 47 deaths. It means the government can access up to £40 billion in emergency funding. Our north america correspondent, david willis, has the story. President trump has gone from playing down this pandemic and branding concerns about the virus a hoax to approving billions of dollars in Government Funds to fight it. I am officially declaring a National Emergency. Two very big words. Never mind that the optics of his address offered something of a contrast to the social distancing Government Agencies here recommend. Not to mention their suggested avoidance of handshaking. Pressed on why the uk had been exempted from the ban on european travellers entering the us at a time when coronavirus cases there are growing, mr trump indicated that decision was now under review. We are looking at it based on the new numbers that are coming out and we may have to include them in the list of countries that we will, you could say ban, or whatever it is during this period of time. But, yeah, the numbers have gone up fairly precipitously over the last 24 hours so we may be adding that. Wall street reacted favourably to the president s announcements, gains on the dowjones doubled in the last half hour of trading on friday. And later it was announced that Congressional Democrats had reached agreement with the white house on a series of financial measures, including paid sick leave for workers affected by the coronavirus. But such is the partisan nature of politics here, even at times like these, that both sides claimed credit for the legislation. David willis, bbc news, los angeles. Cheering it isa it is a huge sum of money, congratulations to all those involved. Richard curtis will be joining us on the sofa just after 9am. He is one of the organisers. Proportion of the money will go to fairshare, the proportion of the money will go to fair share, the Distribution Network delivering through to Community Groups and hostels and also looking after certain. Them more Vulnerable People in our society, particularly those who might be affected by income loss in the cup coming weeks and months as well. More coming up on coronavirus in a few moments time. Heres louise with a look at this mornings weather. Are things sharing up . Yes, a good deal of dry weather right across the country, so bear that in mind, particularly as i tell you there will be some rain around this weekend. You might be waking up to skies like this, some heavy rain asi to skies like this, some heavy rain as i was driving towards london first thing this morning. This has been the story over the last few hours, it is starting to push its way eastward so that is an improvement in that frame will gradually ease its way east over the next few hours. Thaton rain. An improvement across england and wales. We might see car breaking up to allow some sunshine to come through. By the end of the afternoon, Northern Ireland will turn increasingly wet and windy are the next area of low pressure moves on. Temperatures at 8 14dc, up a little in comparison to yesterday because the wind at the moment is from a southerly direction. A spell of heavy rain for scotland, that will be replaced during the early hours with some wet weather into north west england, wales and down into coolmore as well. The cloud and the rain, it will stay mile so we will start off tomorrow Morning Saturday on a cloudy note, certainly with some rain under this influence of low pressure. Pretty windy as well, just in excess of 40, 50 miles peran well, just in excess of 40, 50 miles per an unexposed case. The rainbow push its way through the midlands, down towards channel coast, behind it, sunny spells and a real rash of showers being driven in by a northerly wind as we go through the day. Temperatures are really going to struggle in the far north of scotland. Add on the 40, 50 mile power gust of wind, you will notice the difference in the feel of the weather. It is a bit messy at the beginning of the week, through the latter stages of tuesday to wednesday, High Pressure builds are not only does it build for wednesday, its likely to stay into the weekend as well. I good deal of dry weather in the forecast to look out for next week and hopefully with some sunshine, it will feel quite springlike at times. Back to you two. Louise, thank you very much. People with disabilities and their carers are calling for more support from the government as the number of uk cases of coronavirus continues to rise. Theyre among the group most vulnerable to the effects of the virus and many say theyre worried about who will care for them as the outbreak worsens. Jayne mccubbin has been hearing their stories. Its hard to avoid the fear, but what do you do when your loved ones rely solely on you . Hello, dan. Hello. Tell me whos in this picture. Ok, in this picture is my wife, amy, and my daughter emily, who has spina bifida, hydrocephalus, and is a wheelchair user. Im currently looking after both. But i love them absolutely both to pieces. Love the stardust of them. But youre worried. But im very worried. Because as it stands, if i were to contract coronavirus whos going to step in and do the very personal care which both of them need . I cant leave it to a friend or neighbour, it has to be to a care professional, and, unfortunately, they are a very rare breed. Right now there are over 120,000 vacancies in the social care system. What happens if a suggested coronavirus sickness rate of 20 hits . Hello, liz. Hi, jayne. Tell me about your brother and daughter. My brother and daughter both have down syndrome. Elsas 23 and she lives at home with me. And my brother lives around the corner in his own flat with a 24 7 support team. This is why youre so worried. People are going to get sick. Much has been said about the risk to the elderly, but there are other sectors of society for whom this outbreak is a huge concern. I mean, youre also worried because routine for your brother is so very important. I dont know how hell cope when he cant do the things he loves. And theyre just ordinary Little Things like going to the shops. He loves to shake peoples hands. Thats a bit of a no no right now, isnt it . Were working on teaching him elbow bumps. The routines the change to routines could really upset his Mental Health. These are the many and varied consequences of a virus which were told, repeatedly, for the majority is no worse than the flu. This mother spoke to me anonymously about her five year old son who has a multitude of complex Progressive Health problems. Now, we tend to make a mini hospital at home these days so wed only go in when we need intensive care. Ijust dont think my child is going to be one of those children that would receive a ventilator if push came to shove. Because there are so many other complications with your boy . Yeah, so hes progressive and hes non verbal. So there are lots of reasons for them to say we wont bother with him. These are the heartbreaking fears surrounding children and adults with disabilities. Lucy is a journalist within the bbc. She has spent many hours recently chasing detail from the government about its plans to help people like her who rely on personal assistance to remain independent. This plan emerged yesterday, suggesting volunteers could be drafted in to replace professional staff. And detail is exactly what these people are so desperate for, before a crisis hits not after. Well, lets get reaction now to those points from care minister, Helen Whately, who joins us from our london newsroom. Thank you for your time this morning. I think you had thank you for your time this morning. Ithink you had in thank you for your time this morning. I think you had in an opportunity to hear those concerns at this time. I wonder if you could first address, down we heard from a moment ago, looking after his wife, dan looking after his daughter and his wife. He is going to step in christma could address that . Yes, absolutely. We are very aware that in the weeks and potentially months ahead, there is going to be a challenging time for people who both work and receive care in our society. We also know that people who are older or have Underlying Health conditions are most at risk from some of the complications of coronavirus. This is really important and that is why yesterday we published guidelines for the care sector, for providers, for local authorities on how best they can prepare for the spread of coronavirus and the steps that they can be taken to make sure that people like dan will be able to get the care that they need. That sounds very generic, let me ask you, weve had a question sent into us on the same issue, he will be caring people if the carers are either sick or refusing to go in to care homes for fear of them contracting the virus . So, we know that one of the things we have to plan for is that some of the Care Workforce, i should say absolutely brilliant Care Workforce, an importantand absolutely brilliant Care Workforce, an important and really skilled job that requires a real commitment and compassion, but we know that some people may full sex. Of course it is really important for that workforce, as well as the rest of us some people may fall sick. If you have a High Temperature and self isolate, you should not be caring for someone who is vulnerable. I ensure the Care Workforce will take that approach. They are working with care providers to co nta ct they are working with care providers to contact them and establish methods of providing mutual support so if one provider should find that they have sickness in their workforce, another provider may be able to step in and help out. This is the kind of planning that is going ahead to make sure there is the care that people need. There are hundred 20,000 vacancies even as we speak in social care, where are these people who are suitably qualified coming from . There was a pool of people who are sufficiently well qualified or trained to do the kind of roles we are talking about, some which are quite specialised roles, people are very concerned that there is not a pool of people. No matter how many times youd can say you can ask around and swap amongst each organisation, that is not a pool of people available. We know that organisations will work together, the nhs, care providers will get together. We will be drawing people who already have the skills but he may at the moment be doing other jobs, but may be able to volunteer and come back and help out. Of course we make sure anyone doing any particular job, course we make sure anyone doing any particularjob, particular caring role would need to have the right skills for doing that. How much money is being. We know about the nhs commitment, which is effectively a blank cheque. How much money for social care is being put forward by the government . As the chancellor said any he committed upfront for a 5 billion funding part which will go to the nhs to support local authorities, to support social ca re local authorities, to support social care providers with the pressures and if more money is needed, there will be more money. Money will not get in the way of us making sure thatis get in the way of us making sure that is the care that people need. Ifa that is the care that people need. If a care home has closed its doors and they are facing a staffing crisis in 20 , not in a reasonable figure, their own workforce, its not there, would loved ones be able to go into help theirfamily members in those circumstances . Its a really good question you ask, because quite a few people have asked me about Visitor Policy for ca re asked me about Visitor Policy for care homes over the last few days. Which is why we worked with industry experts, with medical experts on what would be the best guidance we could give and if they guidance that was published yesterday, the recommendation is that somebody who is unwell should not visit a care home. That is the normal situation, if you are unwell you should not go visiting. Particularly if you have the symptoms of coronavirus, a new persistent cough or High Temperature, you should absolutely not visit. Temperature, you should absolutely not visit. My question was along the lines, if you are healthy and consent and that within a care environment, your loved one it will not be receiving the right amount of ca re not be receiving the right amount of care in the home is effectively closed to visitors, what then . As i was saying, about the Visitor Policy, it is up to care homes to establish their own Visitor Policy that at the moment, it is not to com pletely that at the moment, it is not to completely closed to visitors because actually it is really important for family to be able to visit relatives who are in a care home. We should be addressing this is something, this isntjust about steps that can be applied for a couple weeks, we know this may take many weeks, it may take a couple of months. We have got to have more sustainable approach. As i said, local authorities are working with ca re local authorities are working with care providers to make sure that they are prepared to cope in the event of staff sickness is. A lot of people interested this morning in connection with Mass Gatherings, you talk about government policy. It has been suggested that government policy has changed in relation to Mass Gatherings, what can you tell us . The government has been continuously developing policy, based on the science. I cant reiterate that enough. The whole approach has been what does the signs tell us, what is the guidance we are getting from the chief medical officer and the other experts around him, bringing in behavioural science . So we take the right steps of the right time to best protect the population so we can minimise impact of coronavirus. That is not your scene over the last few weeks that different decisions have been made over time, stepping up have been made over time, stepping up the approach that we take and more decisions will no doubt be taken. Forgive me, the question was is the government changing its my Mass Gatherings christma i would anticipate we would see further announcements next week. The story is effectively true. You are the first current minister weve been able to talk to in relation to the suggestion that has been a u turn. Yesterday we spoke to the chief science adviser, he told us closing Mass Gatherings has a small effect. On its own it does not make the difference and it is not one of the difference and it is not one of the top things you need to do to control the epidemic. That was yesterday, today we are being told there are sources within government saying this is something that is being brought forward, that it could being brought forward, that it could be within a matter of days. Is that true . We are following the evidence and what i will say, is the chief medical officer said and i have been advised, that the evidence tells us that stopping Mass Gatherings does not have a huge impact on the spread of the virus. But, for example, the decision has been taken on some countries because of the impact on Public Services, jewels on the police and the Ambulance Service who need to support it. The important thing is all the way through we are taking the right steps of the right time to best protect the population, drawing on the scientific advice on the guidance of experts. To be clear, we can expect an announcement is on the Mass Gatherings within days. Ive given you my response on the question of Mass Gatherings. I wa nt to the question of Mass Gatherings. I want to say one of the things we have seen that in general, you try to give people some advance notice. We look to last week, some conversations that run up to the decision on the shift from containment to delay, so people knew what was coming down the track. All the time we are considering what is going to be the right decision to ta ke going to be the right decision to take at the right time to best protect people. It has been suggested that in relation to this mass gathering issue, i appreciate you have said what you are prepared to say on that, some people are suggesting that what has happened in practice is that people, the general population seem to be ahead of the government. The government for example does not make an announcement on Mass Gatherings, on sporting occasions, but what people are doing in the real world is a not appropriate, they will cancel events, they will change what they are doing and the government is actually behind the curve and not giving people the credit of common sense here. Is that true . In a situation like this, you come under huge pressure to do something, theres a huge passion to take particular steps and people look at other countries and say they have done this and that. We are doing are a must to make sure we are following the best scientific advice on what is the best thing to do at any point of time. Some things might backfire and have unintended consequences. We are 20 make the right decisions. The important advice is actually about peoples personal hygiene and the important thing that people can do to stop the spread of the virus is make sure that you are washing our hands, washing our hands more frequently, washing your hands for 20 seconds with soap. If you cough or sneeze, use a tissue and then throw it away and wash your hands again. If you have the symptoms, if you have a new persistent cough or a High Temperature, self isolate for at least seven days until you are better. Helen whately, thank you for your time this morning. Helen whately, who is the care minister. It is fascinating to read the information around this, how the uk is differing from other countries are doing. They want as many healthy, robust people to get the virus, not in a sinister way, over a course of time in a manageable way so then we then develop this immunity. You shut everything down in other countries, you turn the tap off on infection rates but when people become ref frustrated and moving around again, you get another spike. That an awful lot of kind of confusion around how are they modelling this, and what is the data out there . The fact remains that many, out there . The fact remains that any out there . The fact remains that many, many people, some of whom weve have reflected on this one, who have genuine concerns about loved ones in vulnerable situations. The simple question is, if we are not able to help them, who will . And that remains out there in the way. Not a complete answer for that, was the . We are going to try and answer your questions. Please get in touch with us and well try our best to get through them. We can take a look at the papers now. The lawyer and businesswoman Funke Abimbola is here to tell us whats caught her eye. Good morning. Where were you take us first . People trying to make money out of what is going on at the moment. There is always someone someone moment. There is always someone someone trying to take advantage and unfortunate we are now seeing a new fishing exercise, which is when fraudsters try to get information on the wrong way and they can use it for fraudulent purposes. Directly linked to coronavirus, e mails coming round from, allegedly, from the Inland Revenue to get a tax rebate because the Inland Revenue to get a tax re bate because of the Inland Revenue to get a tax rebate because of coronavirus. Learning people in that way and asking for personal information that can be then used to access bank accounts, open new credit cards and the name of the individual. Shocked when i read this. What is the consumer advice on this . Ignore. Absolutely. We regularly see these e mails from different organisations from these organisations but they never are. Check whether link is going to. This is a very clever scam because it genuinely look as it is from hmrc. Their worry is it would target older people, people in isolated communities. There might be more people susceptible to it. Working from home. This is again related to coronavirus, i work in the corporate world and Business Continuity is very important at this point in time so we are encouraging as many people as possible to work from home. This is all the brown the challenges without. A lot of the Network Systems arent actually used to have everyone accessing at the same time. Will people want to go back to the office . I see this as a seismic shift, where after all this is over, people are going to be comfortable working from home and will we be able to get people back into the office again . It will be interesting to see it will affect productivity. My children are trying to convince me they will be able to work better from to convince me they will be able to work betterfrom home. I cant see that happening. In terms of the industry as a whole, for those people he that can, people who cannot, will productively improve customer i think it does. cannot, will productively improve customer i think it does. I work from home two days a week to focus on more detailed work. I get a lot more done, i wake up early, no commute, i deliver far more for my company as a whole. I see it as a good thing. Im a strong advocate of working from home. Theres always Something Else to do. You have to be disciplined. Its a gorgeous day, you know, something needs to be taken from that to there. Is that just me . You need to be disciplined, charlie, and very focused. This is where it gets very serious because when we talk about working from home, that is if you are under privileged position that might not be affected by this too much, in yourjob. We are hearing concerns. The a, along other airlines, saying this is really going to affect more than anything else among recent histories, flight routes are having to be cancelled, and the planes are flying at the moment and what is the point in that. Climate change, economically it makes no sense. He sent an e mail via a video message to all ba staff yesterday saying we are going to do review everything and have a look at our Business Model to see what we need to adapt. It is true that our conversation about working from home to so many people is completely irrelevant. Absolutely. I will be back in an hours time. Thank you. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast, with Charlie Stayt, and rachel burden. Now, a summary of this mornings main news. A National Emergency has been declared in the United States as the number of deaths there has risen to 47. The move allows President Trump to access up to 40 billion in emergency funding. Today also sees the president s plan to ban travel to and from 26 European Countries come into effect. The government is drawing up emergency coronavirus plans to avoid disruption in englands prisons. Staff will be offered bonuses to cover shortages and could be redeployed to cover front line services. The Prison Governors Association has said cases of the virus are inevitable, and unions say prison officers face unprecedented challenges. The bbcs sport relief event took place last night raising millions of pounds for projects across the world. The organisers have this year promised a chunk of the money would go to those affected by the coronavirus pandemic here in the uk. The fundraising night went ahead in front of a live studio audience in salford, with comedy sketches and celebrity performances. Heres the moment the nights tally was announced. Our sport relief 2020 total is £40,540,355. Which is a tremendous sum of money, congratulations to all involved yesterday. Absolutely brilliant. Mike bushell was involved in that, he was there last night and this morning he is at Tranmere Rovers. Now, at prenton park this morning. They should have been football here like so many other football grounds but it is off because of coronavirus. With people like the arsenal manager being infected by the virus, and those teams going into self isolation, it was a matter of time before football was cancelled until the first week of april. What is the cost to clubs, Tranmere Rovers were on a winning run, three games in. Plenty to talk about. Football on a saturday, not happening. What was your reaction to the news . We have been watching it closely. To me, it was the next logical step. As soon as me, it was the next logical step. As soon as players started to fall away from the squad, you get into destroying the sport and integrity of the league. It was only a small step to getting them into a position whereby they made a decision such as this to postpone the league and give ita this to postpone the league and give it a chance to see if it can be finished towards the end of april or may. A club like yourself in ligue one, was it better than playing behind closed doors in financial terms . Yes and no. Yes, because if you can then play the games, you will get then play the games, you will get the revenues. There is a small difference between playing on a saturday and tuesday. The real problem will be cash flow. There is a difficult financial landscape for the lower leagues. People are living hand to mouth, wherejust the lower leagues. People are living hand to mouth, where just not played, administration. Across back landscape, if you do not get the cash that comes in from a game, that will hit you. There is a cash flow element which may be short term but will be damaging. What will it cost clubs like yourself . For us, it is the thick end of £300,000 for the games if we dont play home games, the gates and food and beverage. We will get another hit which is because we have other businesses, international and college, we might lose another 150. If it goes into summer. Perhaps half a million. If it goes into summer. Perhaps halfamillion. Because of the Merseyside Derby on monday, i had you get scandinavian fans who would have then come here spending money in the shops, bars. That is a downside. We do feed off football tourism. It is becoming common for people to come over here for a full weekend and enjoy the premiership games and some of the lower league staff. For them it is a great experience to access the clu bs. That will damage as as well. The season has to finish. If it finishes now, you would be relegated, third from bottom. We would. The integrity of the sport and the lead changes. We are starting to see the benefits of the place we signed in the transfer window, they are gelling together now, three wins on the trot away. That is one aspect. For others, you have weakened teams, crucial promotion or relegation battles. All over you can see that is the reason why they had decided to postpone and get it finished. If they do not, thatis get it finished. If they do not, that is different. Do you say everything is the same, all say, the champions are the champions, there is in relegation positions get relegated. Liverpool is set to win their first premiership title. Thank you. You runa premiership title. Thank you. You run a liverpool podcast. The thinkable prospect is the season would not finish. It would be really hard lines if this is and did not finish after the season we have had, the nightmare scenario, that the season would be voided for liverpool fans we want to finish it and be on the ground when the full lift the trophy for the first time in 30 years. Jurgen klopp has said they dont wa nt to jurgen klopp has said they dont want to play in front of an empty stadium but if doing so helps one individual stay healthy, no questions asked, the choice between football and the good of the wider society, an important message. We are proud he is a managerand speaks for a lot of us as liverpool fans, we are in agreement. We would rather the game to be postponed and be behind closed doors. The Champions League is a special competition, it doesnt feel the same behind closed doors. But you have to put Health Reasons first. There are bigger things going on. Hopefully at some point this season we will all be together and share that moment. If they end up putting the euro 2020 condition back a year. Competition. Iwould condition back a year. Competition. I would like to hope the season will be finished at a later date maybe with two games a week. We are 25 points clear at the top but what about the teams in the relegation zone . Some could get into the Champions League for the first time, so it would be unfair to them. The other 19 teams in the league deserve a chance. And you have your podcast . Deserve a chance. And you have your podcast7m deserve a chance. And you have your podcast . It is carrying on, we still are talking about football. I work in football. It is my hobby. I will need to find a new hobby, go to the gym every week there is some sport still going on. Rugby league. Netball in liverpool. Badminton. Some football outside the Football League, the National League including notts county third at home, to eastleigh. That is all from prenton park for now. Dan is here to tell us whats coming up on football focus this week. It isa it is a strange old time. On football focus we will be looking at what happens now for football. Speaking to someone from tranmere on the Football League side, where the money goes, what happens to clubs struggling because of reduced gate receipts. And europe. Speaking to a journalist currently in spain, about the fact all those leagues across europe have been postponed or cancelled. The europa league, Champions League football. And what happens with the football season. There are three potential options. One is you cancel everything and this season essentially ends. That is genuinely a potential outcome. If infection rates continue and know football is possible for let us say far more than the current period until third april and extends into june and further. The other option, and that would involve no permission, no relegation which you can understand the legal ramifications and the upset among teams in good positions. The other option, you end the season as it is at this point, and have a play off system to find out who is promoted and relegated. Or you say, where you are now, those three teams will go down, those teams will win the championship. Is it still feasible you strip out the heroes, delay them by a year and say in two months we started again, would there be time . What you would need, i have tried to work it out, you would need a minimum of six weeks to play all the games left, midweek games, taking into account you would leave the remaining rounds of the fa cup in there. Six weeks to do that. That depends on when sport, society, returns to normal. We could be looking at a much longer period than we think. Aside from the clubs, leagues, everything that revolves around football, the money associated every match, the industries, entertainment, catering, all those people, real lives generally affected, no matter what. Exactly, that is why the premiership and the Football League went against government advice and said we are not playing matches from now on. If the government had their way of doing things, football would still be on this weekend. Talking to leaders in the game yesterday, the plan was to manage the slowdown, a weekend football here, then games behind closed doors, then the football season would be spent itself and be stopped. What the premiership and league have said we will do it for now because you have players and managers who have coronavirus, and loads of players and staff self isolating. For them, that couldnt continue. But what about tv money, fans who have season tickets, are the refunds are available . Some clubs are doing amazing things, like aston villa, brighton, fulham, who had taken food from corporate hospitality this weekend and given it to homeless charities. We will speak to the brighton executive, who is seeing people working for them on match days, they will pay them until the end of the season but there are matches or not. Lots to discuss with lots of guests lined up. Football focus remains. Thank you. Banks must do more to prevent criminals from tricking victims into sending them money. Thats according to the financial ombudsman. More than £200 million was stolen from thousands of victims in the first half of last year. Radio 4s money box presenter paul lewis has more on this. Morning, paul. You focus on the terrible story of a 91 year old man who was scanned who contacted your programme. Indeed. We are calling himjohn. He lost £90,000, he transferred it to criminals over a period of four months. He believed he was paying money into an investment. These scams are so money into an investment. These scams are so sophisticated, they asked him for a scan of his driving license to prove who he was then used that to open an account in his name. For him, he was transferring money into another of his accounts but actually it was under control of the thieves, so he lost £90,000. Went to his bank, santander, who under a new code of practice should have refunded it, but it said no, until he contacted us. It was only when you intervened. Are you getting stories about other banks . Not as many about fraud as we used to. Injohns not as many about fraud as we used to. In johns case not as many about fraud as we used to. Injohns case after we looked into it, santander changed its mind and he now has £90,000. That means the criminals got away with it. As the criminals got away with it. As the ombudsman has warned, the banks are not doing enough to stop this crime. We get fewer complaints because more people are getting their money back but the ombudsman told us they are still getting a long list of complaints from people about banks not refunding money, before and after the new code came into practice. They are getting very sophisticated, difficult to stop. Even whether banks give warnings as did tojohn, even whether banks give warnings as did to john, because even whether banks give warnings as did tojohn, because they are not specific or personal, because they do not stop the payments and say, we think you are being conned, these frauds still go through. Even if the banks refund the money as they do more and more, the thieves are still getting away with it. It wont surprise you to know we we re it wont surprise you to know we were talking about new scams emerging in relation to coronavirus, mentioning the fact people may be more isolated, more vulnerable. Indeed. The ombudsman may clear this isnt just people indeed. The ombudsman may clear this isntjust people you might call vulnerable, we are all vulnerable. A message this morning about an e mail purporting to be from hmrc. Others saying coronavirus will mean a refu nd saying coronavirus will mean a refund from the government, give us your details. All these things are crimes. Do not respond, do not respond to messages, if you get a call you are not expecting from someone call you are not expecting from someone claiming to be from the bank or police or hmrc or microsoft, put the phone down. I keep saying that, thatis the phone down. I keep saying that, that is an impenetrable barrier to the thieves, do not engage with them for a moment. Brilliant advice. You can hear more on this story by tuning into money box on radio 4 at midday today, and its also available on bbc sounds. Sometimes the Simple Pleasures are the best, put the phone down. It is com pletely the best, put the phone down. It is completely fine to say, thank you, goodbye. But in other circumstances . If it is your mother or mother in law heres louise with a look at this mornings weather. I dont recommend you put your phone down on your mother there is some rain around, a messy story weekend weather. But i have some good news into next week. The story so far today, some rain has been heavy, starting to ease in eastern england. Some wintry showers across Higher Ground in scotland, continuing for a time but slowly improving in the afternoon. The cloud should then and break. Northern ireland, another area of low pressure moving in bringing wet and windy weather by the end of the day. The wind direction is southerly so it is milder. Some glimpses of sunshine in the afternoon. No pressure takes over tonight bringing wet and windy weather across scotland, heaviest through north west england and wales. Tomorrow, an inch of rain falling before it eastwards. It may not arrive until the end of the afternoon. This will be the story first thing on sunday, wet weather around, drifting through the midlands, into south wales, dry in the south east. Behind it, sunny spells and scattered showers. The wind direction changing, so in the far north of scotland, gusts of wind in excess of 50 miles an hour. Only 5 degrees. Further south, 12 on sunday. Tricky on monday. Some early frost on monday, dry and sunny. Wet and windy late on monday. Once those weather fronts clear away on tuesday, we will start to see an area of High Pressure building. Into wednesday, into next weekend, we will see High Pressure staying with us, a good deal of dry, settled and even sunny us, a good deal of dry, settled and even sunny weather. Certainly welcome news. I havent been able to show you a chart like this since september last year. We all need something to cheer us up. This years sport relief saw a star studded evening raise more than £40 million. The money will support projects across the world, but this year, some of the funds will go towards helping Vulnerable People affected by coronavirus. The night featured many highlights, including special episodes of killing eve and line of duty, and Live Performances from pop stars like rita ora. Lets take a look. Our sport relief 2020 total is £40,540,355. Cheering. Yeah, it is me hello, david, old chap. No, it is me i am attractive russian lady assassin. Attractive . Prepare to fry. It is funny because it is a man. Aint nobody can hold me like the way you hold me. End up on my own almost every night. Sorry im late, the traffic was a nightmare. Dont say anything, they got nothing on you. So, you must be. A murderer. Dc taylor. Weve met. Sorry, i dont know why i said murderer. Its not been proved. At times it gets too much. You must feel like giving up. But stand by me. The brilliant louise, part of the tea m the brilliant louise, part of the team that in the desert in namibia. Amongst many other people who took pa rt last amongst many other people who took part last night. Were joined now by the director Richard Curtis, whos one of the founders of the Charity Comic relief and sport relief, and the deputy chief executive ruth davison. How are you . We are a bit tired but really grateful to everyone who viewed and everyone who gave last night, £40 million is an incredible amountand we night, £40 million is an incredible amount and we want to say thank you. Ina way, amount and we want to say thank you. In a way, richard, you must have these thoughts, you wonder what is these thoughts, you wonder what is the appetite for the event, of giving, those questions knocking around, and over £40 million, extraordinary. What a complex situation for everybody and everything in the uk will get complicated. Did more people watch tv because they werent going out . It was important for us to point out early on that we do always deal with the most Vulnerable People in the uk. And we have already started getting things in from charities saying they will put money towards people who are affected by coronavirus. It was a joint that the figure came in height but that is a joy because we will have more money to spend and take ca re of have more money to spend and take care of more people. Given the current climate, some people are saying it has brought out the best in people in terms of generosity of spirit, that can be like knocking on your neighbours door, giving money to charity you havent before. Do you get a sense of that . Definitely, one of the greatjoys of working for a charity is you can help people do something really easily to address a situation they are concerned about. It is inspirational when people are so uncertain about what is coming and worried about themselves that they are being so generous and thinking about others, particularly the most vulnerable. Give us an example of the sorts of charities, the real concern is when this hits peoples pockets, there is very vulnerable who work in the gift economy, self employed, who cant pay their have help with holidays, where did they turn to . It could be government and its only meet a small proportion of their needs. Charities will be part of the front line response. It is amazing we have funds we raised last night to support charities we are already funding. Across the United Kingdom and internationally. One richard mentioned, a food redistribution project fareshare which distributes to charities who then go on too food clu bs to charities who then go on too food clubs and food banks. If the foods gretsch schools are clothes, if people are self isolating if schools are closed. One of the lovely things about the night itself is amongst the devastating stories and moving stories, you have the nonsense how dare you in the best possible sense. People doing the silliest things. You get strange, people who might not necessarily spend time together. A moment on the fence with rita ora and Alistair Campbell sitting beside each other. They are close personal friends i amjoking. We did they are close personal friends i am joking. We did a line of duty special. Lee mack leapt at the opportunity. He played it really well. Exactly, not a show he would traditionally find himself in. And David Walliams and stephen fry, with Steve Redgrave and stephen fry, with Steve Redgrave and steve davis. Bringing people together is one thing that makes it fun for us and it fun for them. Does it still worked, the Richard Curtis phone call . Can you just pick up curtis phone call . Can you just pick up the phone and go. Really seriously, oddly enough, it depends on the quality of the idea. If you come up with something that people think will be fun, so, we had Claudia Winkleman took of a fringe and revealed that. The moment you ring herup, she and revealed that. The moment you ring her up, she says yes. But if you say, will you do something you have done 12 times before, she will say no. That is the thing about public fundraising, we have had shots of all these kids doing the ajay code to start up the country. It isa ajay code to start up the country. It is a fun thing to do. Aj curtis. Ruth, what about how this will benefit, because we talk a lot about the uk, but you still have local projects you are involved in. Absolutely, half the money is spent here, half abroad. Absolutely, half the money is spent here, halfabroad. It absolutely, half the money is spent here, half abroad. It is uncertain how things will evolve outside of the uk. We know europe is the epicentre. It is great we have these funds and we will work with our partners, we have spoken to them, to ask what they will be needing. One of the things worry me is we have been doing this a long time, there are a lot of families across there are a lot of families across the world, because of aids, Young Children being taken care of by theirgrandparents, children being taken care of by their grandparents, that could be a complicated situation. The fact the public have come in, trusted us, said, here is some of my money, i would love it to help an individual, ata time would love it to help an individual, at a time of crisis and extra need, thatis at a time of crisis and extra need, that is a wonderful thing. So many have said this is like being ina so many have said this is like being in a movie. Dystopian visions of the future. Has that occur to you . Only something you could imagine. did notice that movie has shot up to number two did notice that movie has shot up to numbertwo on did notice that movie has shot up to number two on the itunes chart. Contagion. Everyone is watching it. You might think the last thing you would want to watch. People are criticising it for coming down in the second half which is very peculiar. Maybe one of your romcoms to take your mind. Are you saying they are shallow they will give you a bit ofjoy. It will be so interesting to see how people behave. In many cases we will see beautiful examples of people coming to each others help as we saw last night. Thank you. Brilliant work. Thank you for your beautiful dancing, for many, the highlight of the night. Said with a straight face, almost. Quite happy to suffer humiliation for your benefit. Congratulations on the work you are all doing at the moment, it is so important. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with Charlie Stayt and rachel burden. Our headlines today plans to ban Mass Gatherings are being drawn up to curb the spread of coronavirus. The measures could come into force next week. And major sporting events around the world a re and major sporting events around the world are cancelled. It may be a saturday but no football here today at Tranmere Rovers or indeed anywhere in elite british football until aprilfour at the anywhere in elite british football until april four at the earliest. Ill have all the details coming up shortly. Good morning. Its saturday, the 14th of march. Our top story this morning Mass Gatherings could be banned from as early as next week under new plans being drawn up by ministers. The move is designed to ease the burden on emergency services. It comes as the number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in the uk has risen to 11. Our political correspondent, matt cole, joins us now from our london newsroom. Matt, if you look at the papers this morning, many are saying the government has performed a u turn on the cancellation of Mass Gatherings. Whats your interpretation . Yesterday we had from the chief scientific adviser that there was no need to end Mass Gatherings because they were not necessarily slow the spread of the virus, but i do not think this is what the government think this is what the government think they are doing. The lib dems say the change of tactic is down to the gummed following what the public seem the gummed following what the public seem to be demanding. Down to the government. We had it is not about dropping the spread of the virus, it is about Something Else. The evidence tells us that stopping Mass Gatherings doesnt have a huge impact on the spread of the virus. But, for example, the decisions been taken in some countries because of the impact on Public Services and because when you have a mass gathering that draws on the police and the Ambulance Service who need to support it. But the important thing is that, all the way through, were taking the right steps at the right time to best protect the population, drawing on the scientific advice and the guidance of experts. The legislation that will be brought, put together to allow for this to take place, we understand, will appear sometime this week. What we do not know at this stage, other thanit we do not know at this stage, other than it will probably contain provisions for supporting Small Businesses affected by this, what we dont know is what the numbers will be. If you are going to ban a mass gathering, how many is a mass gathering . It was 500 that the scottish common has settled on because it has done this already. Will that be the number in question because it throws up an interesting question for the commons, will parliament be impacted . If it does go ahead, the thinking is it could be by as early as this time next week. Keep an eye out tonight on the edge of the legislation coming within the next few days. Thank you very much, matt. So whats happening in the rest of europe . Guy hedgecoe is in madrid. What is the situation . Here in spain, we have seen some over 4000. But the place that has been a over 4000. But the place that has beena main over 4000. But the place that has been a main focus of the iris has been a main focus of the iris has been here in my church, i am outside. The main focus of the virus has been here in madrid. We have a few problems on the line, lets see if we can return to him in that moment. Our reporter sima kotecha is in rome. Sima, whats life like for italians on lockdown . Italians are very warm and sociable people, and now they are being told that they cannot be. The movement has been restricted, they cannot move from town to town, to city to city. If they do, they need good reasons and if they break that rule they could face a jail sentence or a fine. Im going to show you a bit of rain this morning. Saturday morning, and our head from you, nobody on the balconies, nobody walking the streets, it is very quiet. This is very odd. Robin swann are the most popular cities in the world. Rome is one of the most popular cities. The death toll is rising every day, more than 1200 people have died here, most of those fatalities have beenin here, most of those fatalities have been in the north. Without than 17,000 cases of coronavirus in italy. The rate of the increase yesterday slow down for the first time. Lots of people eager to see what the figures say today and whether that downward trend continues. Thank you. Lets look at the situation in america. The time now is 9 08am. We have been speaking about how to keep your spirits up, or how to occupy your time if you are not going to use boating events. People are talking about clearing theirjewels, taking things to the charity shop. Clearing out the drawers. Italians in quarantine arent letting coronavirus get in the way of some good Old Fashioned music making. Tweets have surfaced showing people in sicily, which is under heavy lockdown, taking to their balconies and windows to perform together. The music is a popular localfolk singer and everyone comes out and enjoys it, has a bit of a dance on the balconies. Difficult situation there. I think we can listen in, can we . Singing people taking instruments out as well. Just a moment in time in what isa well. Just a moment in time in what is a very difficult situation. Well. Just a moment in time in what is a very difficult situationm that was to happen in this country, what some would it be . Would it be, in the words of billy connolly, the archers theme tune . I think it might be agadoo. You know the ways in everything. You can leave the way, rachel. The time now is nine minutes past nine. If you have to self isolate, you might be wondering how you can best keep your mind and body healthy. Well speak to a panel of people in just a moment who are full of tips and advice. But first, lets hear from our reporter john maguire whos been looking at how were all trying to adapt our social behaviour to stop the spread. Diners arriving at the urban tandoor in bristol are left under no illusions these are far from ordinary days. This time 12 months ago the restaurant was packed with race goers from the nearby cheltenham festival, but not this year. Behaviours changing. Were back to the namaste pattern of mumbai no more handshakes. I mean, people try to keep distance. If anybody is coughing theyjust run away. So you can see the change. They dont want to sit close to each other. And, ah, yeah, its all happening. You can definitely see the changes, there is no doubt about that. Theyve decided to offer free food and delivery to those with the virus who are self isolating and give their drivers very clear instructions. We leave the delivery outside. Once we reach there, we give you a call and the drivers need to follow the precautionary measures, as in the gloves, the face mask, and once they are back they need to wash their hands. But they dont come in contact with the guest at any point in time. Some businesses are taking the initiative to protect their staff and customers. At this vehicle repair garage in ipswich staff are being monitored closely for any signs of illness. The coronavirus is coming. Its not if, its when. And i think theres a lot of apathy out there where people arent taking this seriously and, as a company director, ive got a duty of care to, first of all, my family, my extended family, which is my team, and, obviously, all my customers. But working next to such a big office means that if we have large crowds coming in, maybe we will try and stagger that, if the office staggers that it maybe it will be even easier for us, actually. Lets talk now about some of those issues. Joining us on the sofa now is dr rebecca clark, whos a gp, psychologist dr naomi middleton, and home cleaning expert lynsey crombie, whos speaking to us from london. Good morning. Doctor, we will start with you, your practices in blackpool. What is it like the moment . We are taking it one day at a time on a day to day basis. We have significant changes to the way we practice, we have had to the way we practice, we have had to quickly implement telephone triage systems. We are tragic at the message across coming from the government so we are asking people not just turn up government so we are asking people notjust turn up at government so we are asking people not just turn up at the government so we are asking people notjust turn up at the doors and general practice at the moment, we are getting in touch with people read, reading head, checking they do not have symptoms they should be self isolating with. We are having to do the routine work but in a different way at the moment. People are still becoming ill. We do have to manage all those things, diabetes, contraceptive pill. We are keeping our people safe, we are doing a lot of things over the telephone, we are trying to promote online prescription ordering so the fateful to the practice has to be change. Can i ask about seasonal flu . We know change. Can i ask about seasonal flu . We know the iris is very different in the way it behaves on the severity. Are you dealing with flu . The severity. Are you dealing with flu . Is that still swelling around . We are still in flu season so at the moment, differentiating between the two is difficult. We are now in the system where if people have fever and cough, we are asking them to self isolate. It is slightly academic whether it is flu or coronavirus, we know the measures we are asking people to take, we are trying to promote those measures. Yes, seasonal flu is trying to promote those measures. Yes, seasonalflu is still there, as is every other infectious disease. Naomi, you are a psychologist. It is going to be very important how people react on a daily basis, how they run their lives is going to become crucial to how the virus escalates or is controlled. What are you seeing as the key elements around the . I think in terms of people self isolating, been concerned about how this might impact on their Mental Health and mental well being impact on their Mental Health and mental well being and obviously impact on their Mental Health and mental well being and obviously we know that if you are in high periods of stress and anxiety then your immune system can be affected by that, especially if that stress is ongoing stop kind of considering how can we help people to look after their mental well being, how can we help people to look after their mental well being, how can we support them to the best manage their physical health so if they do become ill, that they are nourishing the body, looking after their body in the best way they can. Lindsay, we talked an awful lot about hand washing over the past few weeks, we know that really the risk in the home is when we bring the virus outside to within. How important it is just outside to within. How important it isjust keeping your outside to within. How important it is just keeping your home clean at the moment . It is really, really important and it is very much like make sure you take your shoes off, your coats off and leave them in a specific area rather than walking through your home. Do a 2 step cleaning process in the kitchen. When you are wiping down the surfaces, do it not once but twice. Give yourself extra protection. Keep your hands as clean as you can, but most right afterwards because im seeing lots of evidence now have over hand washing and people getting sore hands, which again the virus can travel through your skin. You have to be so careful. Im not advising that you chuck bleach all around your house or go to any extreme measures, but be careful, be sensible with your cleaning. Steam clean where you can, steam cleaning is brilliant as well. What is steam cleaning . You can get floor steamers, hand held steamers, but you can lightly steam your sofa come outta whack your floors and steam cleaning is proven to kill 99. 9 of bacteria and viruses. Ive never come across that before. The ultimate germ carrier, your mobile phone. Best way to clean that . you have got a case on your phone, ta ke you have got a case on your phone, take the case of an clean that in warm soapy water. With your phone itself, spray product to a cloth and then to the phone. Do that every time you come in. You put your phone is done all the time and you do not necessarily realise you are doing that. It goes on coffee tables, its in your handbag which can be dirty as well. Do look after your phone. The tv controls in your home as well, it is important to give those more of a regular wipe as well. Door handles, light switches, the list goes on. Be extra vigilant in your home. Rebecca, can you pick up on some of the specifics . If you show some of the specifics . If you show some of the symptoms, a persistent cough or High Temperature, seven days off, they are not testing any more. At the end of the seven days, they will not know whether they had coronavirus. What is your understanding of the point you should be concerned, you should do more . You have a tickly cough. What is the point you think i might need to ta ke is the point you think i might need to take further advice . That is the same as any other illness. It is important to say they are still doing testing, it is just important to say they are still doing testing, it isjust in hospital. As you would normally expect people to self care for the virus, he would still do that. The point at which you would think, hang ona minute, point at which you would think, hang on a minute, im unwell now, my child might not be taking fluids, and not going to the toilet, and having difficulty with my breathing, the point where you think i need to go to hospital, ive self cat, and not Getting Better here, the physical deterioration, that is when we are asking people to contact 111. Naomi, in terms of keeping your mind healthy, ever gets to a point whereby if youre not officially self isolating but you are having to stay home to look after children because the schools close, its important to keep some of routine . Absolutely. We should discuss with our household or thinking about this on your own what are the challenges that i might face in the situation if we are living with Young Children, what they need to know, what information do they need so they can feel safe and as well. Think about your routine, how can you keep that, quite similar to what you keep that, quite similar to what you do normally. Thinking about your your sleep hygiene, also thinking about meaningful activities. What is it that you do day to day that brings you joy and how can you bring that into the home. I think also thinking about movement, how can i move my body . Providing you feel well enough to do that, we know that meat and have wonderful effects for us physically and mentally. We know that movement can have wonderful effects. Yes, rebecca, i was wondering about outdoors. works. Even if you are self isolating, if you are lucky enough to have a big enough garden, you can still isolate from the rest of your family, go outside, it stayed two metres away from people. You can go outside and get fresh air. Physical activity, i am a busy working mum, outside and get fresh air. Physical activity, iam a busy working mum, i do my fitness at home, you can do it. There are a lot of resources out that, a lot of them with a free trial. If you are in isolation, does not mean you just sit at home and do nothing, there are lots of things you could be doing. Thank you all very much. Thank you. Thank you. Speaking about going outside, how is the weather looking. It is not looking too bad in the near future, it is not looking too bad in the nearfuture, rain and wind around in the next few days, but then it will be glorious. We have got some rain clearing away from the east, our weekend weather is a little bit on the cheeky side. Some rain at times and increasingly windy as we go through the last stages of the day. The Early Morning rain on the radar eases away, the cloud should the number eight, allowing for a little bit of brightness into the afternoon. The exception is Northern Ireland, as you can see quite clearly. Wet and windy weather. The wind direction is coming from south westerly, mild, it will feela little bit better if you are out, 812dc the little bit better if you are out, 8 12dc the overall high. Low pressure m oves 8 12dc the overall high. Low pressure moves on through tonight, bringing a spell of rain to scotland to start with and then eventually into North Western england and wales. This is the story overnight, some of the rain quite hethey, 30 40 millimetres. Pushing it south eastwards. It is going to be a mild one, 5 9dc. A cloudy start for all and mild one, 5 9dc. A cloudy start for alland a mild one, 5 9dc. A cloudy start for all and a wet and windy one across parts of the midlands, down into wales and eventually into the south west of england. That will push its way south is, perhaps not arriving in the south east corner until the end of the day. Behind it is an improvement. Sunny spells, scattered shops showers, winds on the far north of scotland, swinging round two and not only, still gusting. That will make it feel on the cold side. Early next week, monday, that is going to subbrand us, some frost but some sunshine around. Tuesday some cloud and rain, but i promise you an area of High Pressure moving in. If we take a look at that, the wet weather on tuesday. As i clears away south east, High Pressure is expected to build and then that high is going to stay with us right into next weekend. That is something that we have not seen for quite some time. We all deserve a bit of good news, dont we, at the moment . Once the rain is out of the way on tuesday, it will be dry, settled and sunny. It is worth noting it might not be necessarily warmer, but hopefully the sunshine will compensate. Goodbye. Thank you, louise. Shes gone outside. Shes gone to enjoy the weather. It is not yet, next week the lawyer and businesswoman Funke Abimbola is here to tell us whats caught her eye. Coronavirus is dominating so much. This is one of the question so many people asking, about what hope for a kia . Very positive developments here from british scientists, from the drink on developing a vaccine, it has been tested, the tests are going the right way. The challenge with this is viruses mutate, they are different strains, the initial strain in december is very different to what it is now. That is the real challenge in finding a cure. Positive news all the same. When we say on the brink, a lot of caution around this, it could be months, many, around this, it could be months, any around this, it could be months, many, many months away and possibly not helpful in the immediate problems people are facing. We do need to be careful, i work in the pharmaceutical industry, you do need to test properly. There is hope other of a cure. To test properly. There is hope other of a cure. Here is the story, about visiting. Do i visit my mum in hercare story, about visiting. Do i visit my mum in her care home . This poor lady would want to go and see her mother ona would want to go and see her mother on a regular basis, she is wondering with the virus and the issues around that, is it wise to visit . A lot of communities are coming together now to try and bridge that gap because we dont want to isolate those who are already fairly isolated in care homes and so on. I will challenge there. Heartbreaking call to bbc radio, her husband has dementia, they have never been separated in 56 yea rs, they have never been separated in 56 years, he is in a care home and now she cannot go to see her. Lucy says she cannot go to see her. Lucy says she is getting a lot of outdoor fixes with the dog, not visiting her 101 year old grandma. I know it is a sensible decision from the care home to restricted, but when we talk about ensuring our emotional needs are metand about ensuring our emotional needs are met and how that has an impact on physical well being, its a really tough one. There is a huge Mental Health angle towards other this, lots of reporting around out also. Looking back at other problems in the past that we can maybe try and learn from. The spanish flu was a long time ago now, 1918. Far more serious, of course, it is important to stress that in terms of fatalities and how many people died, but what was interesting is the same basic information, it was put out than as is now, cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze, wear a mask, walk to work and stay home if you have a cold. Exactly the same information that we are hearing now from Public Health england. There is some consistency around some of the advice we are getting. Everyone is curious about, we were talking about earlier, how did enoug what we are doing in our everyday lives, what are you doing christmas i work a lot more from home. I feel more isolated, actually. I miss being with my colleagues. I do thrive on being in an office environment. Is that because your office has made that decision . Weve made that decision, especially if you have travelled. There are certain criteria are playing as well asa certain criteria are playing as well as a precaution. I feel very isolated. For me, this is very unusual. Im used to interacting with a lot more people on a daily basis and im not doing that as much now. There are other stories away from coronavirus. Tell us about this one. This is an interesting allegation of race discrimination and gender discrimination, normally we hear about a black woman is the one bringing these claims, but on this occasion its within the police force, is a white man he is bringing that claim and saying he feels he has been discriminated against with the pairof hers has been discriminated against with the pair of hers who happens to be black and female earning substantially more. It shatters how the law protects us all, its not always about the underdog or the underrepresented group. I thought it was very interesting, the same legislation is now protecting a white male and rightly so, if it proves to be the case. Thank you very much, it is great to see you. Look after yourself. I will do, and g. The time is 9 27am. This is breakfast. Were on bbc one until ten oclock this morning, when matt tebbutt takes over in the saturday kitchen. We are talking about how you make yourself feel good in challenging times, food has got a role in that. Absolutely, good food, strong whiskey. Good british ballot. Speu whiskey. Good british ballot. Spell spirit. Amanda redman as our guest on the show, we will talk about good karma feed. What is your idea food heaven . Charrette so. Chorizo. My food hell is rabbitte. Very precise. My grandmother made a rabbit stew and it was revolting. You might have it today brad carter is here. Im going to be cooking some dairy beef, with grass. Stay tuned for that one. Ryan riley, your first time on the show. Im going to make a parmesan card, it is going to be delicious. Delicious. Olly smith . Stunning wines. A modern wine from australia, i hope to when you have. Good shirt. Good faith dont forget, it is down to you at home to vote for what amanda will be eating later on. Go to the website. Lovely show. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast, with Charlie Stayt, and rachel burden. Heres a summary of this mornings main news. The care minister Helen Whately said plans are being put in place for the most Vulnerable People including those who rely on carers. Local authorities are working with ca re local authorities are working with care providers to contact them and establish is on providing mutual support so, if one provider should find they have sickness in their workforce , find they have sickness in their workforce, another provider may step in and help out. This is the kind of planning going ahead to make sure there is the care people need. More than £40 million raised, an incredible achievement. Richard curtis was here at pains to point out that at the beginning gary lineker made the point they are aware of the circumstances people are in an even more so aware of the circumstances people are in an even more so it is amazing how much people are giving. Lucky in many ways the show was not massively disrupted by a coronavirus which seems to impact on everything, including the sporting calendar. We will be talking about the London Marathon which has been postponed. There will be no major football matches played in the whole of britain for the next three weeks at least. Mikes at the home of Tranmere Rovers this morning who were supposed to play lincoln city later today. You were involved in sport relief last night. Coronavirus is expected is last night. Coronavirus is expected is affecting sport with Big Decisions being made. It was quite surreal in cheltenham yesterday, people saying this could be the last big sporting event of its kind for some time. After we had all premiership and Football League matches off now and it brought forth at the earliest. This is prenton park home of Tranmere Rovers due to run out here to play lincoln city in a crucial match. They are third from bottom. They were on a winning run and momentum is so important in football. On the pitch we can speak to the chairman, former player here, chief of the fa, an accountant and insolvency expert. On the pitch, you had been in football so long, you paid it in the 1980s, but nothing like this you have had to deal with. Neither in my business life, these are unprecedented times. Everyone is struggling to do their best. It is notjust in the game but around the country people are doing their best. What will it cost a club like tranmere. You have been telling me this will be relayed this summer. So practical things will be affected. Financially, relaying your pitch is costly. We hadnt planned for that. And the coronavirus cost. Practically we need 12 weeks to reconstruct the pitch. 27 april we we re reconstruct the pitch. 27 april we were going to be out putting a new pitch in. If the season is extended you cannot do that. You need to think of contingency plans, asking the league if we can play the first few games we should have played at home, away from home. Those are the practical difficulties people do not see. The best hope it does start again is in early april. For tranmere, it would be unthinkable for the season to terminate and everyone ends up where they are now because you would be relegated. Lam glad be relegated. I am glad i am not at the fa thinking about that. There are teams who want to stay in the premiership. Our friends and neighbours liverpool, 25 points clear, havent won for 30 years. For them and their fans they are anxious times. Everyone in the game, every right minded sports fan would want to seek the competition completed. That is why their decision was to postpone to see if it was possible. Things like moving the 2020. Moving it back a year. A sensible thing to do. What happens for players, do they still train, have a week off . I presume not because you have to maintain fitness. We have given players a week off. As a former player, if you are training every day without again at the end of the week, you will be going stir crazy. We have a mid season break. So they are back mentally fresh. In a week you wont lose fitness. Our sport scientists have devised specific programmes for players in case they are quarantined, to keep their fitness up. You wont lose that much in a week. It is a major issue is for everyone else. We cant moan about it. There are people, for example, those who depend on casual work, that spins off the back of the game, things like the grand national and other industries, they wont be getting that work. We understand the context. Can you put a cost on each match being cancelled or postponed . £35,000 plus the food and beverage on top, roughly where we would be paying. Lincoln normally travel well. Add in a good game. That is a disappointment. In terms of food and beverages, a lady had her 60th birthday card with 30 guests, that has gone. This was our International Day with guys coming over from sweden. Those things add up. Thank you. Let us talk to a couple of the fans. Mark, you own a bar outside giving hospitality for fans on match day. You now have lots of beer you cant get rid of. These things you dont think of. Beer which will go out of date that will get wasted. Suppliers, now we dont need their business. A guy who does cleaning for us, sorry, no need to come. Asafan, to come. As a fan, how much does this hurt, three weeks, a club you love . It will be a killer. Boredom is the first thing all thejobs it will be a killer. Boredom is the first thing all the jobs at home which will get done, that is a positive, my wife will be made up i dont know what i am going to do, on a saturday, tuesday. What can fans do if they are concerned about the club financially, to help . A lot of clubs will have to put the begging bowl at. At tranmere we have had a great relationship with the owners for the last six years. We are appealing to fans to buy your season tickets for next year, put cash into the club. People want to do something in unprecedented times like this. And we are asking people to pay for Community Tickets where fans play to pay for Community Tickets where fans play pay for other fans who cannot afford to come. There is a lot fans can do for us. This could go on for quite a while. It is a positive way of backing the club into the future. And fans running on social media. Fantastic. It sounds a cliche but this club is all together right the way down from the owners, managers, players, fans in this time everyone will pull together, that is what happens on merseyside. Few fa ns, happens on merseyside. Few fans, this is an cannot end as it is because tranmere would be down. Definitely not. Obviously, we dont know. The season cannot end now, not with where we are. We are on a roll, we have won the last three games, we have new players bedding in and looking really good. We want the Duckworth Lewis method and we will be fine some sport is still going on, rugby league, badminton and outside of the Football League, the National League continues including notts county against eastleigh. There are some things to keep Sports Reporters busy over the next few weeks, we hope. Notts over the next few weeks, we hope. N otts cou nty over the next few weeks, we hope. Notts county are in action today. Good morning, it is a tale of two cities in nottingham today. Forest game is cancelled. The county game goes on, we arejoined by two game is cancelled. The county game goes on, we are joined by two fans. Iris, are you nervous about going to the game today, you are going. Yes, iam the game today, you are going. Yes, i am going, the game today, you are going. Yes, iam going, i the game today, you are going. Yes, i am going, i am the game today, you are going. Yes, iam going, iam not the game today, you are going. Yes, i am going, i am not nervous about going. I want to support my team, iwant about going. I want to support my team, i want my football fix. This virus could get to us anywhere, even in the queue at tesco. Personally, i am attending the game. Simon, you are a forrest fan, your game has been postponed for the time being, how do you feel . We are disappointed. We want to play foot ball we are disappointed. We want to play football matches but there is a bigger picture. We are on a good run at the moment, third in the league, fifth in the league i should say, but disappointing we cant carry on. You are third in the league, do you think pausing your season now would bea think pausing your season now would be a problem . It would be a disaster. We have every likelihood of getting permission or a play off. We are in the fa trophy. If they stopped all the fa trophy. If they stopped all the games now, well, it would be disastrous. Simon, what will you talk about for the next three weeks . Probably the weather and maybe coronavirus. It is like the summertime, nothing to talk about the problem is when fa ns to talk about the problem is when fans arent going to football games, it means they arent coming to places like this to have a drink before the game. Tom bounced this place. Pretty bad for your business. Not ideal. Not a great deal we can do. We have the blessing of the notts cou nty we have the blessing of the notts county game still on muzzo, business as usual. Forest is cancelled so it will have an effect. But health comes first. Your hands are tied, we will go with the rest of the country on this. Just time to see if simon might for one day only change that red top and put on a black and white top. Would you be prepared just for today . Unfortunately at 3pm i will be sanitising my hands so i wont be able to the rivalry is deep. Would you lend him go top, buy him a pint . I would buy him a pint. The kick off is at 3pm. As iris says, everyone is welcome down to the ground just behind us. They are hoping for a win, what will the school be . I dont do predictions, it is unlucky. And you . 00 0k. Thank and you . 00 ok. Thank you forjoining us. Get yourself down here. Iris will buy you a pint and a pie, excellent we are allup buy you a pint and a pie, excellent we are all up for that one. It will suddenly get very busy. That is an excuse, i am sanitising my hands the London Marathon is one of the events thats been postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak it was due to take place on the 26th of april, but has now been put back until october the 4th. Were joined now by three women who were due to run next month anne chinoy, Julia Reynolds and harriet hamilton. All from sale harriers, your running club, as all from sale harriers, your running club, as i can see from your colours. Have you done marathons before . I have done one. I havent done one before. This is a really big moment. How has the training been going . It has been gruelling. It has been wet, cold, really hard. You have to doa wet, cold, really hard. You have to do a lot on your own as well, so, it can be quite lonely, just you and your headphones. When you heard it was going to be postponed, what was your reaction . I was devastated and relieved. We just did not know. There was a lot of speculation, so come in a sense, you are worrying a little bit. I am sad about it, because london is an iconic marathon, one of the biggest events in the world. Harriet, the good news is that it will happen. It has not been cancelled. Just postponed. You have runa cancelled. Just postponed. You have run a marathon before . This would have been my seventh marathon. October four is the new date. I usually run the chester marathon in october. It could be bad news for the chester marathon. The good news is, actually, you have got more time for training, it is a lot easier in the summer for a marathon. Longer days. The evening. Usually, chester has been great weather wise. Just cool enough but sunny. I really enjoy doing and october as an. The organisers have said everyone who has in place will be eligible in october. But they can also claim a refund. I would october. But they can also claim a refund. Iwould imagine october. But they can also claim a refund. I would imagine most people will be on board. I think so. Maybe people who have to travel further afield, i think so. Maybe people who have to travelfurtherafield, it i think so. Maybe people who have to travel further afield, it might be tougher. There are the practical aspects, my hotel is non refundable. There are the practical aspects, my hotel is non refundable. Maybe they might be flexible in moving the date. Are you fundraising . I wasnt at this stage, when you are a club and then, you run so often, its tricky to ask people for money. Closer to the time i might have looked at doing that. What do you do about the training now, given the gap . It is quite a long time between them. What i will plan to do is scale back so what i will plan to do is scale back so my long sunday run, 18 miles, i will scale that back until summer, so will scale that back until summer, so maybe ten or 12 on sunday. By the end ofjuly i will go back to the plan and ramp it up again. The positive is maybe aim for a faster time with more time to change. You are thinking of the blackpool marathon. Is that still happening . No news on that. As a back up last week, i thought, if we were going to carry on and thought, if we were going to carry on and i wanted a definite goal, maybe there is the chance of blackpool going ahead with only 2,000 entrants. Knowing that london will go ahead albeit later, i will hold off. You are all serious runners. One thing emerging through this is getting outdoors and taking physical exercise is good, a good thing for people. We we re people. We were saying that we dont get a lot of colds, just talking in a taxi on the way here, our immune systems are pretty strong. My family could be down with a cold but i tend to be ok. Had the marathon gone ahead, when you do a marathon, it knocks your immune syste m marathon, it knocks your immune system afterwards. 26 miles is a long way. There would have been that concern as well we would have been more vulnerable. Rachel is a former marathon runner. I have run one marathon. What was your time . That was when the manchester marathon was a bit too short it still counts. Thank you for coming in. Heres louise with a look at this mornings weather. The weather this weekend, quite messy. There is some good news to come. Over the next few days, the story will improve in terms of drying up. We had some rain which is drifting to the east. And mountain snow on high ground in scotland. A slow improvement today. Cloud will lingerfor much of slow improvement today. Cloud will linger for much of the day. Brian slow improvement today. Cloud will lingerfor much of the day. Brian rain at times, the winds will strengthen. For the remainder of the day, afairamount strengthen. For the remainder of the day, a fair amount of cloud, thick enough for drizzle in scotland. Some brighter spells and glimpses of sunshine before more wet and windy weather into Northern Ireland by the end of the day. The wind direction is south westerly, milder than yesterday, temperatures up to 14. Some wet and windy weather will moving in overnight from this low pressure. Heavy rain in scotland. The main emphasis is across north west england and wales, 40 millimetres in the early hours of sunday morning. Not a cold start to sunday, 9 degrees. Cloud continues but it will stay dry across east anglia and south east england. Rain moving through the midlands through the afternoon. Behind it, sunny spells and scattered showers. The wind direction will change to a northerly in scotland which will make it feel cold on exposed coasts, gusts of 50 miles an hour. Only 5 degrees. Elsewhere, 12 celsius. Into monday, this might catch you by surprise, a frosty start with clear skies. Some sunshine, more cloud and rain later into tuesday. Then, we will see this change to our weather story. Behind that front, High Pressure builds from the west which will try and quieten the weather across the country in the latter stages of next week. Welcome news. Some read brad on tuesday but a good deal of dry weather. It is worth noting it will feel noticeably colder through the week which could trigger some wintry showers. Generally speaking, a quite a story. I havent been able to say that for quite some time. Thank you, it is looking better. Good morning. Interesting seeing guests come in, how you are greeting each other. You went for the elbow. The elbow bump. You met Prince Charles recently. He is doing the namaste. I saw him get out of his carand namaste. I saw him get out of his car and went to shake the mans hand. And he went, of course on stage with him later, i did an elbow bump. We dont know what to do these days did he do the elbow . He did. So funny. You are here to talk about your new album and your new single. Let us have a look at that first. Less conversation, more love body to body, skin on skin lets keep it like that throw away all the problems less conversation, more love a fantastic video, you looked incredible in that. Lovely to see you here. A big move for you because you here. A big move for you because you moved away from the record label. It was quite scary, typically, you hear stories of singers getting dropped by their label. I walked into the office and demanded to have a meeting with the manager, which sounds while now. I went and said, what are we doing, if we are not releasing music, let me go. I begged for them to let me leave. They were really respectful and said, we wont hold you back. At the time, i thought this was the wrong move, i was crazy. Looking back, iam thought this was the wrong move, i was crazy. Looking back, i am so glad. You did feel very controlled within that environment, you said. I felt put on the shelf, i had so much music waiting to be put out there and i was told it wasnt Strong Enough for the right song. It was really frustrating because fans where messaging me saying, where is your music, do you even sing any more . That is your passion, it is ha rd to more . That is your passion, it is hard to deal with that. Go back in the story to where people first met you in the x factor and what happened, what was that like . It was probably the most intense thing i have ever done. I like to call it a crash course in the music industry, you learn everything, and you have to almost fail and grow. What we did before . I was touring with different artists. And sitting in my dressing gown for weeks on end thinking, what am in my dressing gown for weeks on end thinking, whatam i in my dressing gown for weeks on end thinking, what am i going to do . Contemplating different career moves. Because of the meeting wasnt working. My boyfriend at the time was my husband and said, get on x factor, we watch it every year. Get on stage. One of the videos from your new album features clips from your new album features clips from your wedding. Was that your wedding outfit that one wasnt breaking tradition you have drawn from your recent life experiences. It is drawing on that famous quote, it takes ten years to create an overnight success. When you see someone overnight success. When you see someone in possession achievement, you think, they are so lucky. You dont realise the hard blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes. It is about counting your blessings. Do you think of yourself as being lucky as well as hard working . Luck is a commission of hard work meeting opportunity, for me a combination. You cant realistically sit at home and think luck will fall into your luck and opportunity will come out of nowhere. You need to be ready and grafting for that moment. It addresses pressure on young people today. I love the track, the opening line, every freckle on your face dog that is me that is about earning yourself, who you are in your own skin. Definitely. Phyllis, every song i have written in their coming is about being brave. Come to terms with who you are, dont be afraid. Fearless. Fans are saying they are dealing with bullying, struggling at school, andi with bullying, struggling at school, and i encourage them to celebrate what they are. A lot of talk about social media, the risks, how it can affect people, what has been your experience . What i find fascinating is i go on Instagram Live and you canjoin in with your fans with everyone watching. They now confessed to me things in their lives, secrets. It is interesting you feel comfortable to confide in me. I am a stranger, really, but because they see you in a position of influence, they feel they can trust you. There is a responsibility for people in my position to be an example for them. And maybe give out health and safety advice in the coronavirus situation. Let us have a look at this. Explain this one to us. A wrap around how to wash your hands. On my Breakfast Show we do every friday a wrap roulette and i get given a topic at random and i get given a topic at random and i get given a topic at random and i get given a day to write it. In vigilant times it landed on hand washing so i did a song everyone could sing along to while washing their hands. Is it 20 seconds long . He had washing section is 20 seconds. An impressive ten man to do it every day. It isa day. It is a challenge. An impressive challenge and turnaround. We love the album. Best of luck with it. Good to see this morning. Fleurs new album, fearless, is out on the 20th of march. Thats all from us for today. Have a good day. Bye bye. This is bbc news. The headlines at 10 plans to ban Mass Gatherings are being drawn up to curb the spread of coronavirus. The whole approach has been, what does the science tell us . What is the guidance were getting from the chief medical officer and the other experts around him, bringing in behavioural science so we that take the right steps at the right time. There are now 798 confirmed cases of the virus in the uk, and 11 people have died. Many sporting bodies have already cancelled events, including professional Football Leagues. A number of European Union countries say theyll close their borders to most or all foreigners us President Donald Trump declares a National Emergency releasing 50 billion dollars in federal funds. And with flights and holidays being cancelled
