To their Third Straight defeat. Hello there. Good morning. After the overnight rain we have got a mixture of sunshine and blustery showers today, but more wet and windy weather to come early next week. Join me laterfor all the details. Good morning. It isjust after six oclock on sunday, eighth march. Our top Story Emergency laws which would help to recruit millions of healthcare volunteers are being drawn up by the government, as ministers prepare for a likely coronavirus outbreak here. The bill, expected to go through parliament by the end of the month, would make it easier for potential volunteers to take time off work. Our Political Correspondent, chris mason, has the details. Down the decades, people have been volunteering for the st john ambulance. The organisation has a history going back over 140 years. The government wants to make it easierfor the government wants to make it easier for those who volunteer now to do so for longer if, as expected, the coronavirus outbreaks gets worse. Around 3 Million People volunteer, and what the government because they health, Community Health and social care setting, for organisations like the stjohn ambulance or the red cross. Health secretary matt hancock wants those described as being skilled, experienced or qualified volunteers to be able to do so for up to four weeks if they choose to without fear of losing their dayjob. 0ther weeks if they choose to without fear of losing their dayjob. Other plans include allowing court cases to be heard by telephone and video links to ensure that the Justice System continues to function in the event ofan continues to function in the event of an epidemic, and making sure there is no impact on the pensions of retired Health Professionals who return to work having reregistered. It is also budget week. New chancellor rishi sunak will give his first budget on wednesday. He tells the sunday telegraph his focus will be on what he calls the Economic Security of the country, and he wa nts to security of the country, and he wants to ensure that there isnt a permanent impact on firms that are otherwise financially sound. Ministers are well aware they have to be prepared for things getting significantly worse. Late last night, 0xford significantly worse. Late last night, Oxford University said one of its students had tested positive for the virus, having returned from abroad. But they have been advised the risk to other and staff is very low. Meanwhile, the italian Prime Minister has said at least 16 Million People are now in mandatory quarantine in some northern parts of the country, including milan and venice. The measures include strict travel restrictions as well as School Closures in the worst affected areas of lombardy. The lockdown will last until early april. In the us, all 3,500 crew and passengers on board a cruise ship, including 140 britons, are being tested for the virus. Theyve been stranded on the grand princess, off the coast of San Francisco, since last week. So far 21 passengers have tested positive for the disease. 0ur correspondent sophie long has more. Well, another day has passed and 142 britons and 3000 others remain stranded on the grand princess grand princess cruise liner. The ship was supposed to document San Francisco first thing saturday morning but was prevented from doing so because it is now known at least 21 people aboard do have coronavirus. Now, the company that owns the ship say they want to bring her into dock as soon as possible so they can get people into the appropriate medical quarantine facilities. We had from Vice President mike pence on friday evening. He is the man co ordinating the operation to contain the virus here in the us, and he said they had a plan and that the ship would be able to document non commercial port before the weekend was out. But i have been speaking to people on board and they said they had no information. They still dont know where they are or where they are going and when they will get there. They say it is becoming increasingly difficult. They have been confined to their cabin since thursday lunchtime. They are getting deliveries of food but they say they are becoming much less regular and they are concerned about medical supplies and Food Supplies running out. On friday evening, one passenger, who said to be critically was evacuated from the ship along with his travelling companion. But more than 3000 others remain stranded on that ship and they still have no idea where they are going when they will get there stop and will be speaking to two passengers aboard the grand princess about 7 30am. Funding for flood defences is set to be doubled in the upcoming budget after storms this winter. The £5. 2 billion will help to build new flood and Coastal Defence schemes to better protect homes in england. 0ur Political CorrespondentJonathan Blake has more. Good morning. Where exactly is this money destined to be spent . Well, it isa money destined to be spent . Well, it is a doubling, as you say, of the funding the government has spent on flood defences in the previous five yea rs, flood defences in the previous five years, and it will be available for communities and local authorities as of april next year. This is an area where the government is a little bit sensitive, i think, where the government is a little bit sensitive, ithink, because where the government is a little bit sensitive, i think, because the Prime Ministerfaced sensitive, i think, because the Prime Minister faced criticism during the most recent series of floods that we saw across various parts of the United Kingdom for not turning up and seeing for himself the damage inflicted, and there are many more conservative mps now in the midlands and the north of england, particularly, presenting areas you want to make sure that their constituents have the flood defences that they believe they need. So it is a significant amount of money the government is putting forward and we will hear more about it in the budget, as you say, on wednesday. The first budget for the chancellor, rishi sunak, thejob for a few weeks, and we will also hear about targeted measures to help businesses in the wake of the coronavirus outbreaks. The chancellor has said in an interview with the telegraph he wants to make sure that the country has the Economic Security that it needs to deal with the coronavirus outbreak in the long term. Deal with the coronavirus outbreak in the longterm. Absolutely. For now, jonathan, thank you. And of course we will have much more in those preparations for the run up to the budget on wednesday. I had a feeling we will be about but a lot. I have a hunch you might be right. The duchess of Sussex Meghan markle has urged men to do more to respect women during a surprise visit to a school. The duchess appeared at an assembly at a school in dagenham in london ahead of International Womens day. Last night she appeared with her husband, the duke of sussex at an event in london. 0ur royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell has this report, which contains lots of flashing images from the start. Take a good look, because we wont be seeing much more of this for a while. The duke and duchess of sussex last night at the royal albert hall, still introduced as their royal highnesses, and still very much looking the part. Harry was making a final appearance as captain general of the royal marines, complete with gold braid, metals and honours. For her part, meghan is leaving formal royal life with a strong endorsement about a cause which she feels deeply about, the rights of women. A couple of days ago she visited a school in dagenham to make a speech timed for International Womens day, today. These were issues which she said we re these were issues which she said were relevant every day and to every person, and she had a particular message for men. Ijust person, and she had a particular message for men. I just encourage and empower each of you to really stand in your truth, to stand for what is right, to continue to respect each other, for young men, to continue to value and appreciate the women in your lives, and to also set the example for some men who are not seeing it that same way, right. You have your mothers, sisters, girlfriends, friends and your life, protect them, make sure they are feeling valued and safe. The speech went down well, the speaker was appreciated. She really is beautiful, innit . Tomorrow, harry and meghan will make their final appearance. For now, with the queen at westminster abbey. After that, the great experiment of their new, supposedly non royal life will begin in canada. Nicholas witchell, bbc news. And we will be talking about that more a little bit later. Lets take a look at some of todays front pages. New government contingency plans in response to the coronavirus outbreak feature in many of the papers. The observer outlines emergency legislation that would make it easier for people to volunteer in the nhs or care homes. The sunday telegraph carries an interview with chancellor rishi sunak, ahead of his first budget on wednesday, in which he promises targeted help for businesses and workers in the event of a coronavirus epidemic. The sunday times reports ministers are preparing for a potential coronavirus death toll of up to 100,000. The paper also says exam boards are drawing up contingency plans to delay gcses and a levels. And on the bbc news website, the bbcs Fact Checking team have been looking at some of the most widespread claims about coronavirus that have been shared online, and what the science really says. So much misinformation about. There really is. This is an interesting double spread in the observer. They have spoken to people who are on the front line, head teacher, a pharmacist, a care home boss, and a e nurse, these other people who are feeling the pressure day today. We keep reporting and strategy from the government but there is loads of detail about how their jobs the government but there is loads of detail about how theirjobs are ramped up at moment, and lots of it has to do with people worrying and panicking without having had any symptoms. And i would imagine a lot of theirjob right now is trying to correct some of that misinformation and make sure people do have what they need to know to make sure they are prepared. You travel on public transport or anywhere right now and images like this are increasingly common. Of course, the advice is that those facemasks dont necessarily do much to help. It is just about things like keeping your hands clean. The pharmacist, the a e nurse, the gp, they say that at this time of year they feel under a lot of pressure anyway, so if this ramps up. Yeah. And that is part of the strategy, to try to delay the spread until the warmer summer months when there is not so much pressure on hospitals and gp surgeries and pharmacies. 0n the front of the mail on sunday, the queen getting involved in this, saying i wont let the virus stop me doing my duty. You may have seen those pictures of the queen handing out those gongs at buckingham palace, wearing gloves for the first time this week. She is keen to make sure she continues doing what she does and also, of course, as we have said, you saw Nicholas Witchells report from the evidence that the duke and duchess of sussex were carrying out last night, the duchess of sussex at the school in dagenham and then a glittering evening in london last night. We will show you more about later. You have seen this clip, havent you . This is in the Times Newspaper today. Meghan signs off with a rallying cry. Shes beautiful, innit . We know the duchess of sussex was there to talk about International Womens day at the school in dagenham and she began, and you saw some of it there in that report, she said, are there any men in the room who want to talk . Upjumped the head boy, describing her as beautiful, innit . Rather competent. Breaking perhaps with some royal protocol. We have been talking about it this morning, what is the protocol when joining with members of the royalfamily . Maybe is one of their last engagements they welcome that royal that informal approach to the speech. Getting a kiss on the cheekbone speaking briefly before she gave her address. It is pretty bold. Even for an exiting member of the royal family. I bold. Even for an exiting member of the royalfamily. I am not sure i would have gone for a smooch. The royalfamily. I am not sure i would have gone for a smoochlj wonder what the teacher said about it afterwards . Nonetheless, that is on many of the front pages. And a great picture here, let me show you this. Climate change campaigner greta thunberg, greener than ever, immortalised in grass on International Womens day. It is a 2000 foot image created by market paint ona 2000 foot image created by market paint on a football pitch. Made by the pupils at hampton Road Primary School in west yorkshire. We are going to be talking about International Womens day all morning. We have got three generations of the same family, three women coming into talk about how things have changed over those generations. Ijust how things have changed over those generations. I just want to have a look at this one in the sunday mirror. Lots of people will be waking up this morning who might have not the best night s sleep because of their partners snoring. Not that we slept together, but i have heard rumours about your snoring. I dont know what you have heard. They are just rumours. Snoring. I dont know what you have heard. They arejust rumours. I dont snore. Great news for partners of snorers. It is the best way to silence a snorer . And nhs surgeon believes she has come up with the answer. She has launched something, you put it in your mouth and for 20 minutes during the day it sends electrical currents to the floppy bits towards the back of the tongue, which. That sounds like torture. It is torturous for your partner, if you snore the improvement rate has worked on all 50 of those who have taken part. Worked on all 50 of those who have ta ken part. You worked on all 50 of those who have taken part. You do it on and app, you put it in your mouth and it triggers these impulses. Dont give anybody ideas. It must be bad save me, please. Lets look at whether. Heres darren with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning. We have had some strong winds overnight, some rain pushing its way east as well. 0nce the last of that clears away in the next couple of hours we are into a mixture of sunshine and blustery showers as well. It is turning cooler impressive from the west especially as with the disease and showers, too. 0ver the west especially as with the disease and showers, too. Over the night and disease and showers, too. Over the nightandi disease and showers, too. Over the night and i was 24 hours we have had four inches of rain in highland scotland, the man made band is moving into Eastern England, some heavy rain at the moment across Northern England, that was the pits we re Northern England, that was the pits were used words over the next hour 01 were used words over the next hour or two. And we have got some sunshine to eastern scotland, Eastern England before we get a few showers. The bulk of this i was southern england and wales Northern England, Northern Ireland and western scotland. Some snow in the scottish mountains. Some strong winds around today, some strong and blustery winds, not as windy as it has been overnight, and temperatures typically nine degrees or so, it may make double figures for a while so across eastern parts of england. Quite a few showers continuing to deceiving across western areas, a view work their way overnight, but the trend is for this i was to become fewer and lighter. The wind is still quite strong and blustery so typical temperatures will be three orfour degrees. We so typical temperatures will be three or four degrees. We are so typical temperatures will be three orfour degrees. We are more likely to have a frost and maybe some icy patches across North Eastern parts of scotland. A few showers to clear away first thing on monday morning with some sunshine for a while. We have the rain coming in. Its probably not reaching eastern parts of england, eastern scotland until the evening time. Certainly carding over in these eastern areas, attempt is reaching 10 degrees. When the wind arrives rain will strengthen as well. 0vernight we have got these trailing weather fronts all the way down into the mid atlantic drawing in some warm air across england and was. We start with some rain across Northern England, that should clear up. Sunshine coming into scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland. Strong and perhaps Northern Ireland. Strong and gusty winds, probably the windiest day of the next few, i think, tuesday, with some gales likely around Western Hills and coasts. But look at these temperatures. 16, maybe even 17 degrees across east anglia if we do get some sunshine. That mild air isnt going to last too much longer. 0nce isnt going to last too much longer. Once that patchy rain moves through we are into colder airfor the rest of the week and quite a few showers. It remains very unsettled over the week ahead, some strong winds to start the week. We are going to find colder air arriving from wednesday onwards with sunshine and blustery showers, less wet and less windy by the end of the week. Still really u nsettled, the end of the week. Still really unsettled, isnt it . But better than a month ago . No named storms. Less wet, less windy, that is good in my book. A bit of sunshine. Thats nice. Now on breakfast we are going to ta ke nice. Now on breakfast we are going to take you to the film review. See you soon. Hello and a very warm welcome to the film review on bbc news. To take us through this weeks releases is mark kermode. Hello, mark hi what have you been watching . A very mixed bag. We have 0nward, which is an animated quest. Military wives, inspired by a true story of strength through song. And escape from pretoria, which does pretty much what it says on the tin. So 0nward. Yeah, so this is pixars latest animation. It begins in a fantastical world in which magic has been superseded by more down to earth, you know, electricity and gas. Two brothers, chalk and cheese, one of whom believes in the sort of the old myths of sword and sorcery, the younger one who is kinda of slightly withdrawn. They botch a spell to bring back their lost father for a day. They only manage to bring back half of him, so they must embark upon a quest and whilst theyre on a quest, they must learn to be able to control their newly found magical power. Heres a clip. 0k here we go. Focus. Uh. Something wrong . Sorry, itsjust your stance is. Here, chin up, elbows out, feet apart, back slightly arched. 0k, how does that feel . Great ooh, one more thing. Barley 0k, 0k. Magnora gantuan dont let the magic spook you 0k. Elbows what . Elbows up no, no, no its too high thats too high im trying to focus here oh, yeah, yeah, yeah focus. Focus on the can. Focus. Barley idid it it worked the can is huge and the van is huge and youre. Oh, no chuckles. That makes me think a little bit of harry potter, i have to say. Yeah, and a little bit of shrek. And heres the weird thing. At the beginning, i thought 0k, this does not have the classic, simply, like toy story, when youre out the room, the room, the toys come alive. Monsters inc, they need you to be scared because thats how they get, you know, thats how they generate power. Or even, you know, inside out, which is numskulls. Um, at the beginning of this, i was thinking, i do not get the set up. They are in a magic world, but there is no magic. What happens about halfway through is that the film really finds its feet and it becomes centrally about the two brothers and their relationship and then it builds toward a third act which, somehow, from the honestly the chaos of the narrative up until that point, manages to pull, like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat, a really satisfying resolution that makes you go, oh, 0k i forgive you for everything that was kinda of a misstep up until that point. So i do not think it is a classic but i think that the last act is so good. You know that thing about. Thats so curious . The end of a film really is the thing that defines what it is. People will come out of this film with a really sort of really warm, feel good feeling, despite the fact that there is a good section of it in which its a bit derivative, and yet its also a bit obscure, its a bit like we have all seen it before, but its also like this is not hanging together. But then it hits the third act and then you go, 0k. I forgive you for everything you have got wrong until now. So is it a real weepy . Because the story could make you it make me cry you know, two brothersjust trying to see their father, whos dead, forjust 24 hours. Well, i confess that i was moved. However, i did not cry as much as i cried in the next movie which is out this week, which is military wives. Oh, wow 0k. This is the new film by peter cattaneo, who made full monty. Yes its obviously inspired by a true story of the military wives, and it is a story of people of partners of Service People who are off on tours of duty finding strength through song, forming a singing group. At the centre of it, we have chalk and cheese characters again. We have Kristin Scott thomas, who is kate, who is sort of uptight and believes in classical music. We have lisa, who is played by Sharon Horgan, who is much more kind of why dont they just we sing pop songs . Why cant we sing Cyndi Laupers time after time . Incidentally, the minute anyone sings anything from Cyndi Laupers time after time, i start crying. Laughs. You could you could accuse the film of a lot of things. It is kind of cliched, its kind of formulaic. It hits some very, very obvious button pushing moments. Some of the characters are done in thumbnails. But it is one of those films that just i have seen it twice now and both times, i have laughed solidly because there is a great comic chemistry between Kristin Scott thomas and Sharon Horgan particularly. And also, there are four or five sequences in which ijust wept and because the thing about it is that for all the things that are wrong with it, for all the things that are cliched, for all the things that are corny, it gets Little Details right. And it is amazing how much a small detail someone packing away their partners things for the time that they will be away on the tour of duty. Somebody asking, how do you cope . Do you just not talk about it . And then being greeted by silence these little moments which mean when everyone bursts into song and when they start writing the songs inspired by the letters, it all comes together. And, you know, ithink as i say, i have seen it twice and there are many things that you could pick holes in, but i do not care to because it worked on an emotional level and i cried like an idiot. Oh, my god. If you cried, then i will be crying too, we can we can guarantee that. I love crying in movies i quite like a good cry, to be honest. Its a great thing. Yes, yes. Escape from pretoria. Yes. Based on a based on a true story again . Based on a true story based on a book by tim jenkin called inside out escape from pretoria prison. So he was arrested in apartheid south africa for distributing leaflets, incendiary leaflets. At the beginning with see with this what looks like an explosive device, but its just used to sort of blow these leaflets up into the air. Given a very long sentence and believes that it is his absolute duty to continue to oppose the Apartheid Regime by attempting to break out. How do you break out . Youre in a prison in which youre behind several locked doors. An apparently insurmountable problem, but not so. Heres a clip. For many nights, i sat on my bed and stared at the lock. I tried 100 ideas in my mind, and then, i tried 100 more. It sat there, staring back at me, every single night. And then it dawned on me. You dont have to know everything. You only have to know enough. Now, quiet start with what you know and you work backwards. Hmm. So, how do you get the lock open . The obvious answer is youre going to need keys. Now, heres the thing with the film. As you have seen from that clip, i think, some of it it has an interesting array of accents, not all of which are completely on the money all the way through. I have always thought that the flaws in a film reveal whether the film is good or bad, because if a film is good enough to get you over those flaws, that means that something is working. I worried about the accents for about ten minutes and then ijust got caught up in the story, in this extraordinary story of how on earth do you get out of this prison with all of these locks . The film is put together very, very well in terms of the way in which it gets you invested in the minutiae of this solution that they come up with. The fact that you know its a true story, but at the same time, youre kind of of going, that cant work that would never work you cant possibly do that and yet, you start to see them doing it. I think it was really gripping and i confess that i went in sort of uncertain about, you know, whether or not, because because id seen the trailer in which id heard some of the accents being not really great, but none of that mattered to me. I thought it was a really gripping thriller. 0k and ifound myself you people always talk about being on the edge of your seat. At one point watching it, i thought i am actually on the edge of my seat somebody is doing something very small and very precise and there is very little going on, and i am really, really worried about whether the bit of chewing gum on the end of that stick will be able to pick up the thing you have dropped, which is an indication of it working. Thats interesting 0k. Thats escape from pretoria. And best 0ut . We both love. Yeah, portrait of a lady on fire. Both love it. Well, i am a huge fan of Celine Sciamma anyway. I loved girlhood. I love her previous work. This is an extraordinary story, an 18th century story about someone is sent to paint somebody who does not want to be painted. And sciamma, you know, said that she envisaged the film as a kind of treatise on the female gaze, and i think it is that, to some extent, but the reason it works is because it engages you emotionally. Yes. I mean, its like a thriller, it is like a kind of hitchcock thing, its, its you believe in the characters. And its beautiful to look at it looks like a vermeer i thought that it was absolutely beautiful. But it does, doesnt it . There are clearly moments in it where you think that actually looks like a vermeer and quite spare and simple, visually, but very striking, and the constant crackle of the fire throughout so much of it. And a very, very sparse use of music, and what music there is is music that is generated on screen. There are two sequences, major sequences the sequence at the end with the vivaldi, theres the sequence in which the thing happens which the title of the film, when everyones doing that clapping and singing i thought that sequence was absolutely mesmerising i thought it was eerie and strange and beautiful and powerful and it was no, iwas thrilled by the film. I absolutely loved it. Absolutely loved it. Terrific. I am glad you like it as much as i do. Absolutely love it. And dvd, for anyone staying at home . Well, doctor sleep. Um, the reason i have chosen this is twofold. Firstly, theres Nothing Better than a film which delivers so much more than you expect, 0k . This is the sequel to the shining and i know that Stanley Kubrick fans are very, very sort of protective of the shining. What it does is it takes influences both from the stephen king and the Stanley Kubrick. My feeling is if you are a stephen king fab, youll like it. If you are a Stanley Kubrick purist, youre gonna a and i fell for it. I thought this is so much better than anyone had any right to expect. And on dvd, theres also a directors cut, which i am very much looking forward to watching over the weekend. Ah 0k, all right. Thank you very much see you next time. Enjoy your cinema going, whatever you choose to see this week. See you next time. Bye bye. Hello, this is breakfast with ben thompson and nina warhurst. Good morning, heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. New emergency laws are being drawn up to help the nhs to cope with a potential coronavirus outbreak in the uk. Meanwhile, the italian Prime Minister has said at least 16 Million People are now in mandatory quarantine in some northern parts of the country, including milan and venice. Spending on flood defences in england is set to double in the up coming budget. £5. 2 has been allocated to build 2,000 new schemes in the next six years. The government says this will offer better protection to home and businesses. The rest of the uk will receive the same percentage increase for their own flood defences. There was excitement and disbelief for School Pupils in dagenham as they received a surprise visit from Meghan Markle. Shes beautiful, innit . The duchess of sussex met pupils before giving a speech timed for International Womens day where she encouraged youngsters to speak up for what they believe to be right. She also called on men to protect, value and appreciate the women in their lives. More on that for you later. Holly has joined us to talk sport. Good morning quite a match. We are just happy to have a bit of six nations actions back, to be honest. So many matches have been postponed because of the coronavirus and it has left us in an odd position with the six nations. We sort of feel like we dont really know when it is going to end or actually, if it is going to end or actually, if it is going to end or actually, if it is going to end, with lots of those matches against italy, obviously, delayed for quite some time. It was a big one at twickenham. The raining champions, wales, against england. Always a pretty exciting affair. Reigning champions. A feisty affair. Yes, feisty is always a good word for it. A rollercoaster at twickenham. While the 3330 scoreline suggests a close contest, two late tries by wales when england were reduced to 13 men wasnt enough to prevent the reigning champions from their third defeat in a row. Adam wild was there. Sounds arriving at twickenham on of just when this six nations would end. Fans. This years competition mired in uncertainty. But for the most part they were undeterred, because after the precaution and postponement, there came the passion. That was never in doubt. This is england against wales, after all. Few fixtures in world rug by wales, after all. Few fixtures in world rugby quite like it. In full flight, world rugby quite like it. In full flight, there are few players quite like anthony watson. Power and pace, thats how england love to start. Commentator watson for the line wales couldnt stop him, but nor did they let england go entirely, penalties keeping them within touching distance. That was until england found space out wide, waiting in the wings, elliot daly. But if england had set the half time tone, here came the wash response. From the kick off, back they came, running from one end of twickenham to the other. It finally fell to the hands of justin tippett, to the other. It finally fell to the hands ofjustin tippett, a train back to take the breath away. England winded, perhaps a little, but their recovery came in the form of manu tuilangi, if it looks like a stroll, the last few minutes were anything but. England had to do it without manu tuilangi. He was sent off. Wales made the most of the numbers. But two late tries couldnt quite get them close enough. And so for wales, a third consecutive defeat. England take the triple crown and keep alive their hopes of winning this years six nations. But it isa winning this years six nations. But it is a tournament that faces an uncertain conclusion, and no one is quite sure how and indeed when it is actually going to end. So, a hard fought win for england and after ther match. Head coach eddiejones seemed to imply that referee ben 0keefe was biased in favour of wales. Jones said that at the end of the match it was 13 against 16 with englands ellis genge sin binned and manu tuilagi sent off. Ijust find it i just find it bizarre, ijust find it bizarre, you know . I usually dont comment but i dont see how you can tackle a guy. So you might as well just say if someone see how you can tackle a guy. So you might as welljust say if someone is tackling like that you let him go, because how else are you supposed to tackle him . Like, this about where your arms are, what a load of rubbish. M tackle, that was the only thing he was trying to do. Manu. Absolute rubbish. So im sorry, i broke my rule. There was one other talking point during that match, a lot of people have picked up on this from englandsjoe marler, who appears to be grabbing wales captain alun wynjones around the groin area. An offence that has a low end punishment of 12 weeks. This isjones said after the match. You know, if i react, i get a red card. So it is tough, isnt it . Hopefully world rugby will have a look at it. Joe is a good bloke, lots of things happen on a rugby field. My question is, it is difficult as a captain these days, because you cant speak to a ref about anything, it feels. The judge obviously didnt see what happened and thats fine. Meanwhile england women are just one win away from a second successive grand slam after thrashing wales in front of a record crowd. England scored 10 tries in total, with poppy cleall getting a hat trick. Their match against wales was the only womens six nations fixture of the weekend, with scotland vs france and ireland vs italy both called off because of the virus. Theres a big derby in the premier league today. Its Manchester United hosting rivals Manchester City at old trafford. City are 25 points behind leaders liverpool after they came from behind to beat bournemouth 2 1 at anfield. Mohammed salah with liverpools equaliser on his 100th premier league appearance, before sadio mane sealed victory with his 17th goal of the season. Liverpool nowjust need three more wins to secure their First League Title in 30 years. We are humans, the boys are human, so losing three of the last four and being confronted with that is just something that, how i said, human beings from time to time think and not always the right thing, but still they do it, and you could see that. We never thought we have to be today brilliant. We wanted to really fight. Sheffield united are closing in on the european places after beating relegation threatened norwich 1 0. Billy sharp scored in his third goal in four games to help move united up to sixth, level on points with wolves, while norwich stay bottom of the table. Dean henderson was brilliant in goal again, prompting more calls for an england call up. He actually got man of the match, although his manager didnt agree with that one. How has he got man of the match, by the way . He only made a couple of saves. He didnt have to run around the 90 minutes. He stands in the goal and the ball comes to him and he does what he has to do. And hes done what he has needed to do today for the building. Done what he has needed to do today forthe building. Done what he has needed to do today for the building. For the football team. Dele alli filled the shoes of injured penalty taker harry kane to snatch a 1 1 draw for tottenham at burnley. It leaves spurs four points behind fourth placed chelsea, who have a game in hand. West ham remain locked in a relegation battle after losing 1 0 to arsenal. Alexandre lacazettes late goal had to be confirmed by the video assistant referee. In the scottish premiership, second placed rangers are away to ross county. Yesterday Leigh Griffiths scored a hat trick as celtic extended their lead at the top to 16 points. Thats after a 5 0 thrashing of st mirren. There were also wins today for aberdeen, hamilton and saint johnstone. Hearts drew 1 1 with motherwell and remain bottom. Its the womens t20 World Cup Final between australia and india this morning, and organisers are hoping to break the record for the biggest crowd at a womens sporting event. The record stands atjust over 90,000. That was the number at the football World Cup Final between United States and china in california in 1999. More than 75,000 tickets have already been sold for the match at the melbourne cricket ground. Australia are defending champions and heavy favourites, but india did manage to beat them in the group stages. Johanna konta has been knocked out of the semifinals of the monterrey 0pen. The british number one was beaten in straight sets by Marie Bouzkova of the czech republic. Konta was struggling with a knee problem which required some strapping and lost 6 3, 6 4. And englands Tyrell Hatton has a two shot lead going into the final round of the Arnold Palmer invitational in florida. Hatton coped well with the windy conditions, and will begin sunday on six under par. Northern irelands rory mcilroy had a round of 73 and hes joint second, tied on 4 under with australias marc leishman. That continues later, but speaking of the womens t20 world cup, they already seems to be a lot of excitement around that. Even if cricket isnt your thing, to know that it cricket isnt your thing, to know thatitis cricket isnt your thing, to know that it is going to be the biggest womens event in a long time, let alone cricket, and katy perry will be performing. Is she . She is there, yes. Now you are interested. She is pregnant, isnt she . Thats right, she and Orlando Bloom have announced their pregnancy. Good for her. I wa nt their pregnancy. Good for her. I want your take on the manchester derby. You start . Where do you start it is going to be huge, isnt it . Think about it from liveables perspective as well, they will be watching this one very closely. If ever there is a banana skin for Manchester City, it is Manchester United at old trafford. Do you think . They are on a winning streak. Exactly. It will be an exciting one. They have solved the mystery of why swing low sweet chariot is sung at by swing low sweet chariot is sung at rugby matches. Thats right. It comes from rugby league. Anything else like to know . And the lottery results for next week i want . Yes, well have all the worlds problem sorted out at 7 30am. Why swing low, sweet chariot . It is a tease. I will tell you later. Thank you, holly. Molly will be back without a little later. Holly. Today marks International Womens day, a worldwide event that celebrates female empowerment and womens rights, and this year it will be focusing on gender equality. For more than a century people around the world have been marking the eighth of march, but what has been achieved over the generations . Weve been to ask people in manchester what the day means to them. International womens day, i think, is an opportunity to really celebrate our women, to really encourage them for the good work they have been doing, because we have strong women. It is a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the amazing women in the world, to really recognise the progress that we have made. A celebration of everything that women have achieved in the past, but also i look forward to the future, seeing what is still left to do. A woman deserves the right to have a chance to do this or that, not man has to say, oh, you have to do this under woman cant have a decision. I just do this under woman cant have a decision. Ijust believe they should be equality in everything. Decision. Ijust believe they should be equality in everythinglj decision. Ijust believe they should be equality in everything. I kind of see the world a little bit differently, i see the barriers that are still in place. My daughters are making sure that we are making strides to get past those now. We dont think that it is fair that men and women used to be treated differently. And still are. So we wa nted differently. And still are. So we wanted to change that. 30 years ago itook wanted to change that. 30 years ago i took roxie, when she was a small toddler, in a press shower, two women against the war. But with the same sort of thing, it was International Womens day, it was a gathering, rally, purple, green and white as well. It is really reminiscent. You brought us up to be very independent and to not stop questioning if we dont feel something is right, and to stay true to who we are. Women have the right to who we are. Women have the right to have an opinion without being judged and have their say. Do not be shy and to always stand up for yourself. International womens day is the opportunity to celebrate the amazing women in the world and also recognise that there are many women around the world you dont have the same rights as we have in the uk and to show solidarity with them. Same rights as we have in the uk and to show solidarity with themm same rights as we have in the uk and to show solidarity with them. It is really important to recognise that there is still a lot more to do. Being a woman in 2020 is ensuring that we can do anyjob, any role, not being discriminated against based on our biology, our sex, our gender. Being a woman in 2020 is just being a voice for women and enabling women to speak out. Just being a voice for women and enabling women to speak outlj just being a voice for women and enabling women to speak out. I think it is really powerful being a woman in 2020, i think we have finally got toa in 2020, i think we have finally got to a space where we have got a platform, we have got our voices being heard. It means freedom, it means the right to speak, the feeling that you can actually change the world. It means having a voice. It means making sure that voices heard. But it also means that there is inequality and we need to still be recognising that. 0h, oh, so lovely to hear those voices in manchester talking about International Womens day. An interesting the Younger Generation just feel it is a given, dont they . Even the little boy was saying that. It was first celebrated in the early 19005 it was first celebrated in the early 1900s but interesting to see what has changed. Not enough. Later well be hearing from three generations of women from the same family. In the meantime, please let us know what International Womens day means to you. You can get in touch all of the usual ways. You can e mail us at bbcbrea kfast bbc. Co. Uk or share your thoughts with other viewers on our facebook page. And you can tweet us using the hashtag bbcbreakfast. We would love to hear your thoughts on that. We will talk about that a little later. Heres darren with a look at this mornings weather. That is a fantastic picture it is, isnt it . It sums up the weather which is very different from what we had yesterday. Yesterday we had the cloud streaming in, there were bursts of rain overnight and some strong winds. We have a lustre that isa strong winds. We have a lustre that is a clear in easternmost parts of england and then we are all in the same boat, sunshine and blustery showers to come today. Cooler, fresher following up with a front which brought the rain overnight and over the last 24 hours, there has been about four inches of rain in highland scotland together with some snow melt, we have seen modified in scotland. There is our main band of rain, some heavy rain is following up rain, some heavy rain is following up on the next hour or two across Northern England, perhaps affecting lincolnshire as well. 0nce Northern England, perhaps affecting lincolnshire as well. Once that has gone we get some sunshine as well for the is inside of uk, a few showers come in but more frequent and heavier showers across southern england, wales, western england, Northern Ireland and scotland. Some snow and hail possible in the scottish mountains. Pretty gusty winds around where those heavier showers arrive. Temperatures typically around nine degrees, they could soon make double figures for a while across eastern parts of england. Afair while across eastern parts of england. A fair number of showers are coming in today and it will certainly continue into this evening. If you will arrive across more eastern part of england but on the whole those showers become fewer overnight. There is still a bit of a breeze blowing so temperatures will typically be 3 4d. Some frost in the north east of scotland, perhaps some icy patches around, too. If you early so as to fade away on monday morning, some sunshine for a while. Thickening cloud coming in and ran spilling in from the atlantic. It is a little bit slower, doesnt really reach eastern scotland and england until the evening and ahead of that temperatures reaching 9 10 degrees. With the rain out in the west we will have some stronger winds which will have some stronger winds which will push that rain eastwards during monday evening, monday night. The west of that rain then clears away but we have some more weather fronts hanging around for awhile on tuesday. So we could stay with them ran tuesday. So we could stay with them ran start with some rain around Northern England and ireland. Still some decent temperatures here, really for this time of year. Some gusty winds and this is the windiest day of the next few. Tuesday will see strong gale force ends and our air is coming from a long way south. So we get some sunshine across east anglia and lincolnshire, temperatures at 16 or 17 degrees. We could do with a bit of that. It wont last long, though, because once that weather front moves away we are intercooler, fresher airfor the rest of the week. This is a summary of what is to come for next week. We get those temperatures dropping from wednesday onwards, 8 10 degrees of sums it up. It is still unsettled, no prolonged spell of dry weather but for the most part it is going to be sunshine and showers, just what we are seeing today. It is not quite spring just yet, is it, darren . It feels better when the sun is out, doesnt it . There is some warmth in the sunshine and it makes all the difference. Completely. Thank you. Now its time for click. We will be back with the headlines at 7am, of course. This week spencer and lara are looking at how technology is helping and sometimes hindering the fight against coronavirus. Theme music this week marks three months since the world first heard about a newly identified disease. I am, of course, talking about covid 19, which is caused by a new type of coronavirus. To date, there have been over 3,000 deaths from nearly 100,000 confirmed cases in 81 countries. And this is how i know that. This is Thejohns Hopkins University covid 19 dashboard. And since it went live injanuary, it has gone. Viral, in a good way, by demystifying the stats and the numbers behind the spread of the disease. It is amalgamating data from many of the Worlds Health agencies and so, for example, right now i can see the total number of confirmed cases is just over 93,000, these are the countries where they have confirmed cases by numbers, and just as importantly, i think, this is the total number of people who have already recovered completely from the disease. And this is just one of the pop up projects that have appeared online, aiming to demystify the glut of covid 19 data. Community powered site nextstrain draws together genome data shared by scientists around the world. As covid 19 is transmitted from person to person, it can change its genetic make up in subtle ways, allowing researchers to build a family tree that shows how the disease has spread. Its genuinely fascinating stuff. In a health crisis, particularly one thats growing rapidly like the coronavirus outbreak, we really need to communicate with people about what they can do individually and collectively to try and help get this under control. But also, it is important that individuals understand that if they make minor, relatively mundane changes to their behaviour, they can help us to slow the spread of this down. In 2018, the bbc ran its own experiment to simulate the spread of a flu like disease using a network of virtually infected smartphones. For me, the show did a brilliantjob of revealing how simple things like washing our hands can make a massive difference to how quickly and how far a disease spreads. 0n the right is what happens if we all wash our hands really well. 0n the left is what happens if we do not. Just look at how the spread is slowed if we follow the advice of washing our hands well and often. Posts like this are everywhere on social media, recommending good hand washing technique and other scientifically grounded tips to try and limit the spread of germs. But they are not the only things you might find if you look online for coronavirus information. Over the past few months, social Media Companies have been waging their own war against a different kind of pathogen. Dubbed an infodemic by the world health organization, social networks have been deluged with information about the coronavirus. Some of this is correct and helpful, but a lot of it is misleading, half true, or completely fake, and that is making the real information and advice much harder to find. Looking through tiktok now and it looks like any search for coronavirus or a similar term now brings up this banner at the top and these videos from well known organisations take up the top spots. Similarly, dubious recommendations seem to have gone. coronavirus conspiracies used be one of the suggested search terms. And its not any more. Over on facebook, it is a similar story, with posts from well known and trusted organisations taking up the top spots. So some of the kinds of misinformation that does travel around would be first of all not believing that there is a problem at all, and this is a creation in order to try and control people. That has been seen before and is being seen now. Also, people come up with ideas of cures, whether it is drinking garlic water or whatever, people suggest that something will happen or that there is a cure out there its just being withheld. That is a circulating rumour at the moment. And you have to counter that because if you do not, people will not take action in the way that you want them to. So it is really important that we get the true messaging out there and the science underpinning it, and that is what we are trying to do. And if youre really interested in educating yourself on the Science Behind covid 19, then professor ward has a free online course that should really protect you from the fake facts. So that is where we are now. But in this emerging age of Artificial Intelligence, we are starting to get glimpses of how that Technology May help us in fighting outbreaks like this. And lara has been investigating. This coronavirus seems to have shaken up life as we know it. Inevitably, it is going to continue to spread. But how far and fast that is going to happen and what we are going to do about it are still in question. So, could Artificial Intelligence play a vital part in providing some answers, and maybe even improving the outcome . Ai had an Important Role in the initial understanding of this outbreak. Canadian specialists blue dot deals with global epidemic intelligence and identified very early on that something was amiss, through a combination of medical and airline data. We were one of the first groups in the world that identified this outbreak. This was back, actually, on new years eve day, the morning of december 31. The Machine Learning algorithms that we developed had picked up information in chinese of a pneumonia it wasnt known to be a coronavirus of unknown cause, centred around this market in wuhan. When it was presented to our team, we recognised there were parallels to the sars outbreak 17 years earlier, so we knew immediately that there was some historic parallels here and that this outbreak really warranted our attention. And this is where the human scientists were needed. Ai can alert but cannot yet do the investigation to say what is really occurring. Detecting an outbreak is really just the first step. There are multiple other things that need to happen. Ultimately, we need to determine what kinds of risks does this pose . Is it likely to spread . If it is going to spread, where might it go . What kind of consequences might occur from that spread . And then, ultimately, we have to get that information into the hands of people who can then be empowered with that information to take the appropriate actions. It is notjust about tracking, though. The dream is that one day, ai might be able to conjure up necessary vaccines on the spot, or repurpose drugs to deal with new challenges the latter being something benevolent ai in london is already leading the way on. This company uses al to better understand the mechanism of disease, correlating data on illnesses, drugs and outcomes, and providing more information than any human being could ever come up with. And, in this case, a potential lead. What are we looking at here . This is a demonstration of our algorithm processing documents in real time, reading the abstracts of scientific publications do do with coronavirus, and extracting relationships between key biological concepts that we really care about to carry out drug discovery. And at this point, were just a few months into an outbreak that could really, really grow. How meaningful do you think this data is so far . Theres a huge amount of information being published. We are notjust pulling out coronavirus information but we are merging it with a lot of existing publications on underlying biology. 0ur algorithms reason over biology at multiple layers, from the nano world of proteins interacting on ourselves through this maze of biological processes, up to human defined definitions of diseases. It is very early days for the process, but it is suggesting what might be worth further investigation. Now, a lot of people are looking at virals, antivirals and how they might potentially, you know, treat the disease. We looked at it from a completely different way. We said what are the other types of approved drugs that might inhibit the progression of that disease in the body . So we surfaced a number of drugs, and then we did some experimentation based on that, and further research. And then we came up with this one drug that we think is best suited. It has both anti inflammatory properties, as well as the ability to stop what is called endocytosis, which is what enables the virus to enter the lungs, which is the most, you know, potentially dangerous outcome of the coronavirus. The company stresses this is only conjecture. And although the drug in question is approved for use in rheumatoid arthritis, Clinical Trials and full Scientific Evidence would be needed before it could even come close to being used for this purpose. What we are trying to do is use this technology in the service of science to further the development of novel treatments for diseases that currently have no treatment. Like, right now in the world, theres over 9,000 diseases that have no treatment. Well, ai will play a greater role than it has already because what is being done is genetic sequences are being taken that is the understanding of the organism itself and this is put into databases that can then determine where a virus came from, where it might be going in the future. Of course, a has not solved the covid 19 crisis but it has hopefully helped to some extent, and should be learning from it to be even more helpful in any future disease outbreaks. And thats it for the shortcut of click for this week. The full length version is waiting for you right now iplayer. And we are waiting for you on your social media platform of choice. We live on youtube, instagram, facebook and twitter at bbcclick. Thanks for watching and well see you soon. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with ben thompson and nina warhurst. 0ur headlines today new emergency laws to tackle coronavirus, as the government says it wants to make it easier to recruit volunteers to care for those who become ill. Italy also brings in emergency measures to fight the outbreak, which could stop people entering or leaving the worst affected regions. Entering or leaving the worst affected reg ions. Protests, celebrations, and calls for action. People around the world mark International Womens day. Good morning. England hold on to secure victory over wales as they secure the triple crown and condemned the reigning six nations champions to their Third Straight defeat. Good morning. After the overnight rain we have a mixture of sunshine and blustery showers today, but there is more wet and windy weather to come early next week. Join me later for all the details. Its sunday, the 8th of march. Our top story. Emergency laws which would help to recruit millions of healthcare volunteers are being drawn up by the government, as ministers prepare for a likely coronavirus outbreak here. The bill, expected to go through parliament by the end of the month, would make it easier for potential volunteers to take time off work. 0ur Political Correspondent chris mason has the details. Down the decades, people have been volunteering for the st john ambulance. The organisation has a history going back over 140 years. The government wants to make it easier for those who volunteer now to do so for longer if, as expected, the coronavirus outbreaks gets worse. Around 3 Million People volunteer, in what the government calls a health, Community Health and social care setting, for organisations like the stjohn ambulance or the red cross. Health secretary matt hancock wants those described as being skilled, experienced or qualified volunteers to be able to do so for up to four weeks, if they choose to, without fear of losing their dayjob. Other plans include allowing court cases to be heard by telephone and video links to ensure that the Justice System continues to function in the event of an epidemic, and making sure there is no impact on the pensions of retired Health Professionals who return to work having re registered. Its also budget week. New chancellor rishi sunak will give his first budget on wednesday. He tells the sunday telegraph his focus will be on what he calls the Economic Security of the country, and he wants to ensure that there isnt a permanent impact on firms that are otherwise financially sound. Ministers are well aware they have to be prepared for things getting significantly worse. Late last night, Oxford University said one of its students had tested positive for the virus, having returned from abroad. But they have been advised the risk to other students and staff is very low. Large parts of northern italy, as we said, are expected to enter a period of lockdown, restricting people. 0ur correspondent bethany bell is in bologna this morning. Just bring us up to date, as we said, those restrictions are set to come into force. What will they look like and what will they mean for people there . We dont have all the details yet. It is not a complete lockdown of these areas. Trains and planes, for example, will still be running. But the government has asked people to avoid any unnecessary movement in and out of those regions, and also to avoid unnecessary movement within those regions to, to try to limit the spread of the virus. Regions too. Schools and universities have already been closed, they will stay closed until the beginning of april. Museums are shut. They have sort of clamped down on all big public events. Swimming pools will be closed, gyms will be closed, and the police to have the right to impose fines on people if they see people breaking things. Do have the right. As i said, were not exactly clear yet what the measures will be. All of this, in the words of the italian Prime Minister, is because italy is facing a National Emergency and they want to try to stop the spread of this disease as quick as possible. But many people here are asking, is this an overreaction . And other people are asking, is this or coming just a bit too late . Other people are asking, is this or comingjust a bit too late . Bethany, iam aware comingjust a bit too late . Bethany, i am aware that it is early where you are, but give us a sense of what it is like in terms of everyday life . What are people able to do . Well, i am just outside the design, but i have been in the past days in line, which is going to face but. In milan. All of these came in the middle of the night, there was a press co nfe re nce middle of the night, there was a press conference by the Prime Minister at two oclock in the morning, so people are still quite unclear as to what all this means, you know, if there is an emergency, will people have the right to travel across . We understand that could be the case. But early days yet. Exactly, bethany, thank you for now. I know you will keep us up to date with that. That was bethany bell in bologna. Still very few details about how those emergency restrictions will work in practice. Meanwhile, the people stranded about a cruise ship off San Francisco will dockin a cruise ship off San Francisco will dock in oakland. The ship will be restocked with supplies and everybody on board will be tested for the virus. So far 21 passengers have tested positive for the disease. A little later we are going to speak to two passengers aboard the ship, he will give us a sense of what they are facing right now and what they are facing right now and what their day to day life is like asa what their day to day life is like as a result of those restrictions that have been put in force. Who will. Funding for flood defences is set to be doubled in the upcoming budget after storms this winter. The £5. 2 billion will help to build new flood and Coastal Defence schemes to better protect homes in england. 0ur Political CorrespondentJonathan Blake has more. Good morning, jonathan. Give us a sense of where this money will be spent . We saw those devastating floods, of course, all those pictures of the devastation that it caused. Where exactly will be money go . The government said it will go towards protecting around 300,000 homes in every region, as they put it, and it will help build 2000 new coastal and flood defence schemes. And this is an area where the government is, i think, a little bit sensitive, perhaps vulnerable, after the most recent series of floods in various parts of the uk. It faced criticism for not acting swiftly enough and the Prime Minister not having a handle on events. So they are keen to take action here, i think, and that is one of the measures we are getting use of in the consulars budget on wednesday. It will, though, i think be dominated by the governments response to the coronavirus outbreak. Rishi sunak, the chancellor, said in an interview with the sunday telegraph that he wa nts to ta ke with the sunday telegraph that he wants to take targeted measures and stop the economy having a permanent impact, stop it from having a permanent impact on the economy. So i think we may well see an allowance from businesses to take extra time to pay tax if they are suffering and impact of people not spending money in the normal way, as the chancellor has put it. The government, it seems, wants to take steps to ensure that the economy, which will undoubtably suffer as a result of the virus outbreak, doesnt suffer a permanent impact. As for the detail, we will hear that from the chancellor on wednesday. Absolutely. For now, jonathan, thank you. And we will have full coverage of budget on wednesday, right here. The budget. The duchess of sussex, Meghan Markle, has urged men to do more to respect women during a surprise visit to a school. Harry was making a final appearance as captain general of the royal marines, complete with gold braid, medals and honours. For her part, meghan is leaving formal royal life with a strong endorsement about a cause which she feels deeply about the rights of women. A couple of days ago she visited a school in dagenham to make a speech timed for International Womens day, today. These were issues which she said were relevant every day and to every person, and she had a particular message for men. Ijust encourage and empower each of you to really stand in your truth, to stand for what is right, to continue to respect each other, for young men, to continue to value and appreciate the women in your lives, and to also set the example for some men who are not seeing it that same way, right . You have your mothers, sisters, girlfriends, friends in your life. Protect them, make sure they are feeling valued and safe. The speech went down well, the speaker was appreciated. She really is beautiful, innit . Tomorrow, harry and meghan will make their final appearance, for now, with the queen at westminster abbey. After that, the great experiment of their new, supposedly non royal life will begin in canada. Lets return to our top story, and those government plans to tackle a coronavirus outbreak in the uk by encouraging huge numbers of volunteer Health Workers, from organisations like the red cross and stjohn ambulance. Lets hear how that idea is being received by medical professionals. Dr tom dolphin is from the british medical association, and hes in our london newsroom. A very good morning to you. Interesting to know the potential mobilisation of 3 million volunteers from reputable organisations like st johns ambulance, how will that be welcomed by nhs staff . That will be very welcome. We have been very shortstaffed in the nhs and in social care in particularfor a long time now. So the additional help will be very welcome indeed. Part of the reason it is going to be so helpful as it will help us move people out of hospital who are well, but cant go home, because they need additional hobart home help at home, and that isnt available very easily at the moment in the social ca re system. Easily at the moment in the social care system. So it allows us to move them out of the hospital, freeing up capacity for those coming in. That is reassuring on one level, but on the other hand, we know that every year at this time of year the nhs is at full capacity, sometimes brought to its knees by winter pressures. How are things on the front line . How are things on the front line . How are things on the front line . How are staff feeling . As you say, were not starting from a great place in terms dealing with a big epidemic. We know that for a long time the nhs has been understaffed and under resourced, and therefore the government is going to need to make sure the resources will be there to deal with this. The hospitals are putting their plans into place to make sure we have got enough staff, to make sure we are freeing up capacity. We could find ourselves in the situation of having to make difficult choices about planned care, elective care, being postponed in order to deal with all the things that are coming in anyway, the heart attacks and road accidents that will be coming in anyway, as well as the coronavirus that could come. So potentially, some horrendous decisions will have to be made. We know they could be emergency legislation going through parliament soon. What would you like to see the government commit to . We need to make sure the government has enough funding need to make sure the government has enoughfunding in need to make sure the government has enough funding in place to allow people to, to allow the nhs to ramp up people to, to allow the nhs to ramp up its capacity to deal with all the expected cases. We need to make sure that people who are brought in, there is talk about retired doctors coming back, for example, and these additional 3 million volunteers you are talking about, we have to make sure they are being adequately trained and looked after to make sure that they are being, you know, brought in in a controlled way. We need to make sure that we have enough protective equipment for staff and make sure that supply chains are being maintained. But as pa rt chains are being maintained. But as part of the planning that is going on anyway. Do you worry about Staff Members . You yourself, you are an anaesthetist, you have to inspect people in a way which could arguably leave stuff susceptible to picking up leave stuff susceptible to picking up the infection. Being indisposed exposed to Infectious Diseases pa rt exposed to Infectious Diseases part of being a doctor or a nurse or any other healthcare professional. It is something we expect to happen. The hospitals and gp surgeries need to have the personal protective equipment in place, and a stop at the moment are being trained in large numbers across the nhs to make sure that we can wear that protective equipment to keep us safe. And staff at the moment. Because the nhs will obviously be affected as well buy stuff going off sick, so we need to make sure that happens as little as possible. We have been hearing the messages all week, but doesnt do any harm to reiterate them. What can we all do day to day to help contain this . Reiterate them. What can we all do day to day to help contain this7m largely comes down to hand hygiene and social distancing. With hand hygiene, people need to be washing their hands five or six times more often than usual. You need to wash your hands for 20 seconds at a time with soap and water and you need to try to avoid touching your face. If you cough, you should be coughing into a tissue rather than your hand, and disposing of the tissue and then washing your hands afterwards. The mantra for that is catch it, bin it, kill it. Coughing into a tissue, throwing the tissue away and then washing your hands. Social distancing is about making sure that you are keeping distant from people more than usual, not shaking hands, that sort of thing, and avoiding going to see people if they are sick. I have had lots of people saying that if it is common, it is common, and my actions would make a difference. What would you say to those people . It does make a difference. We have seen panic buying happening on something is already and that in itself is part of the problem. If people rush out and fillup of the problem. If people rush out and fill up their trolley with ten or 15 packs of giant toilet paper, and obviously the shelves are going to empty. If people are sensible and stick to what they need and do not fill that way, they they will be enough. We need to make sure the country shows that blitz spirit and doesnt panic. Ijust want country shows that blitz spirit and doesnt panic. I just want to country shows that blitz spirit and doesnt panic. Ijust want to ask country shows that blitz spirit and doesnt panic. I just want to ask a question about those who have potentially been brought back from retirement into the nhs, so are questioning whether there is an ethical dilemma there, because older people are potentially more vulnerable to coronavirus. Is that the right decision . Its up to individual members of staff are former start if they want to make that decision. They should decide for themselves if it is a goodidea decide for themselves if it is a good idea for them to do so. And when they do come back, the hospitals and gp surgeries that use them, that employ them, will obviously have to make sure they are protected as well as other staff stop thank you for talking to us this morning. And we will talk more about that a little later, including some people who are onboard the cruise ship. That has now been given permission to dock but there are concerns about whether anyone onboard as that. Has that. We will check in though, with the weather. Quite a mixed picture, isnt it, darren . What a glorious view you have for us. I thought i would start with the sun coming up and there should be more sunshine for the country today, more sunshine and this cloud but still some. This was taken by a weather watcher in northamptonshire. We had some rain from overnight yesterday, we are all in the same boat today. Sunshine and blustery showers. Lets take a look at the radar picture, this is the main band of rain from overnight, this is some heavy rain that is just beginning to push its way across the east yorkshire and into lincolnshire at the moment. That should move its way across and then not so many showers for eastern scotland and eastern parts of england. Some more frequent showers for southern england, western england, wales, Northern Ireland and western scotland. Those happy with some hail and snow in the scottish mountains. Still some rather strong and blustery winds overnight, not as strong as last night. Those temperatures 8 9d, possibly double figures and eastern parts of england. A of showers today and those hours will continue into the evening as well, a few getting into eastern areas of the uk, most of the showers will be out of the west and the tendency is for the show is to become later in the night. There is enough of a breeze to keep temperatures 3 4d, but we will probably find a touch of frost or so for england and Northern Ireland. If you left over showers bursting in the morning otherwise there will be some early sunshine. It is cloudy, rain coming in from the west, a bit slower doesnt really reach eastern scotla nd slower doesnt really reach eastern scotland and Eastern England into the evening and by then we will probably see temperatures of nine or 10 degrees. As it turns weather throughout the day in the western side of the uk will get a stronger wind as well. That will push that rain eastwards overnight, we will get a spell of rain and we still have some weather fronts as we move into tuesday. Looking at where our area is coming from, it is coming from the south, so temperatures could be particularly high. This cloud and out comes out allowing for some sunshine. Temperatures perhaps reaching double figures, but tempered with gales and gusty winds later. This is probably the windiest of the next few days. While there are is cloud for many parts of england, some sunshine for the south and east anglia. Temperatures could reach 13 or 14 degrees. But that warmth isnt going to last was that back into colder, fresher air into next weekend and basically sunshine and showers, temperatures 8 11 celsius. Back to you. It sounds good, getting warmer. How nice would a little bit of sunshine be this week . It has been glorious, com pletely week . It has been glorious, completely changes your mood. Horseracing is a rare sport in which women regularly compete against men at the top level, and their numbers are growing. Wins by female riders in British Racing increased by 76 between 2015 and 2019, according to the latest industry figures. Amongst them is teenage jockey khadijah mellah, who won her first race at glorious goodwood last year. Miriam walker khan has been to meet her. When khadijah mellah became the first british muslim woman to ride ona first british muslim woman to ride on a racehorse glorious goodwood, she didntjust on a racehorse glorious goodwood, she didnt just take on a racehorse glorious goodwood, she didntjust take part, she won. The 19 year old has been a rider since she was 12 in brixton, but just a few weeks prior to glorious goodwood, she hadnt even sat on a racehorse. The reaction was really, really great and more positive than i thought. I really great and more positive than ithought. I initially really great and more positive than i thought. I initially thought there would be a few native buckeyes comments but it has been mostly, very, very positive. Since she won the magnolia cup last august, a lot has changed here at ebony horse club. Even khadijah mellah herself. Even though i won the race, there is so much to learn. And in comparison to other jockeys, i so much to learn. And in comparison to otherjockeys, i am nowhere near their level, so i am trying to better my writing. Ebony horse club is in the middle of brixton, just around the corner from where khadijah mellah grew up. From our riders, khadijah has learnt, they have been unshipped with her and they understand she is an important pa rt they understand she is an important part of the club. The fact they have gone on to see her win a race and really forge her career, it is amazing of them. She is from the same part of town as their man has gone through all the same challenges as them same part of town as them. And she has succeeded, sojust shows what women can do, too. Them. And she has succeeded, sojust shows what women can do, toom them. And she has succeeded, sojust shows what women can do, too. It was khadijahs win that inspired her friends to get into racing, too. We we re friends to get into racing, too. We were crying and screaming and really happy and it proves anyone can do it stopped like, horse riding is a sport that anyone can do. stopped like, horse riding is a sport that anyone can do. I thought you had you own your own horses, be really rich and stuff i realise i can do it. Khadijah now an ambassadorfor great can do it. Khadijah now an ambassador for Great British bake off and she is part of their first jockeys campaign, celebrating International Womens day by highlighting the need to drop the term female jockeys. My achievement was picking up racing in such a short amount of time because it was really challenging for me and some people didnt really understand the journey behind it. Theyjust so she only got the attention because she is wearing a hijab, but that wasnt the case for me. So it has nothing to do with background, it is just down to your skill in sport and the amount of time and effort you put into training and i think that is a great feature of racing. I want people to see me as just a jockey. What an achievement amazing. Miriam walker khan there with khadijah who won the first race at glorious goodwood, really amazing. Author Catherine Isaac is here to tell us whats caught her eye in the papers. Containment of coronavirus has dominated the front pages but there isa dominated the front pages but there is a range of stories inside. Yes, there are other things happening in other than the coronavirus. There is a piece in the observer about the budget happening this week and the government is said to double spending on flood defences. The news com pletely spending on flood defences. The news completely the nominated dominated by coronavirus and is affected recently by this, so that will be top of their minds. The piece is saying it will increase the budget from £2. 6 billion to £52 billion and that will give protection to 336,000 homes. Billion and that will give protection to 336,000 homesm billion and that will give protection to 336,000 homes. It is whether or not that is enough, though. The institute for Public Policy research said £33 billion would be needed, carbon ignitions need to be cut and it is a big picture, notjust containing the symptoms, if you like. And the government has been under picture from scientists than those obviously the homeowners who were affected stop the other question is how quickly they can get out and start all the work that is needed because, you know, from the people who have experienced it, it is, having your home flooded is a devastating event. Under predictions i well be seeing more of it. Lets move to china. Do you know what, catherine . I just have move to china. Do you know what, catherine . Ijust have rediscovered mrmen and my catherine . Ijust have rediscovered mr men and my kidsjust catherine . Ijust have rediscovered mr men and my kids just love catherine . Ijust have rediscovered mr men and my kidsjust love it. They are brilliant. Obviously all authors start their books from reading as a child and it was these books that really made me really love stories, all of the Roger Hargreaves books. The whole brand i suppose has ta Ken Hargreaves books. The whole brand i suppose has taken on a new lease of life and its about how ten new mr men books are being sold in china mrmen men books are being sold in china mr men books. And they are being launched to spread positive thinking, kindness and looking after the environment, apparently. So in certain countries catherine to really well, australia and france especially, but there is a big growth in china and the rest of asia in certain countries mr men do really well. This one said mr clever had a clever clock that told him the time. Thats what all of our phones do now. How they are. And this device designed by an nhs surgeon to stop snoring. It looks like a vetting device, it is linked to a phone. If this takes off, we will no longer need to ban people to the Spare Bedroom or give them a boot in the back in the middle of the night. She has invented, this professor has invented a little device that apparently zaps your time with an electric shock. It looks like torture apparently the way it works is to relax the muscles and sorry, not relax, tighten the muscles to prevent snoring. Sol not relax, tighten the muscles to prevent snoring. So i think you could really take off because, you know, you hear a lot of people are affected by this. Her bad news for divorce lawyers. For six weeks, you are right, it is intended to tighten the muscles in the time. Ben is worried because he is a snorer. Yeah, yeah, might need to learn more about what that involves. In the telegraph today, telegraph boxes and pubs top list for urgent preservation. If people were worried about buildings that look like they are about to be demolished, you can apply for this urgent request to Historic England. And the ones apparently in the last couple of years where they have had the most request our phone boxes and pubs. Historic england have listed quite a few pubs recently. The liverpool philemon pub was one philharmonic. I heard you can buy teller booth telephone boxes, but you need a permit for it . Brilliant. Well apparently there are 3200 red telephone boxes listed but then Historic England says they are unlikely to be listening anymore. Listing. I saw a man with a little coffee machine in one of them. When you see an old pub like a 19th century, proper in going into decay, you think itjust needs a little bit of tlc. Its great they are stepping in and protecting some of these older pubs. Its an important part of our heritage as well. They were social centres for the community for social centres for the community for so long. The fact that so many people are applying for these listings shows how important it is to people, notjust nostalgia and all that. Thank you, see you a little bit later. The Andrew Marr Show is on bbc one at nine oclock. Andrew, what do you have on todays programme . Well, no one in my lifetime has had to push a budget with the pressure that rishi sunak faces. Well find out how the disease is being tackled in rwanda. And theres been a huge rise in the number of female jockeys weve met one teenager whos been inspiring young girls to take up the sport. We will be back in the story a little later. Goodbye to viewers on bbc one. Hello, this is breakfast with ben thompson and nina warhurst. Good morning. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news the grand princess cruise ship is finally on her way to port in california this morning after spending the last few days off the coast of San Francisco, unable to dock following a coronavirus outbreak on board. However, its not yet clear when the passengers on board, including 140 britons, will be allowed to disembark. Two of them Jackie Bissell and Maggie Bartlett join us now by phone, and maggies daughter Lynsey Vickers is in the studio. Iam hoping i am hoping thatjackie and maggie can hear us as well. We will speak to you both in a moment. Lindsey, tell us first what you know so far about your mother and your mothers friend on board . The latest that i heard this morning was that they we re heard this morning was that they were docking in oakland tomorrow at some point. From that, the americans are being taken off the ship and they are going to be tested and isolated. That could take a few days to do. There has been no indication at all with what is going to happen with the International Passengers on board, but obviously they are going to be on board at least for another days anyway. My mum and jackie have also said that the service, the help and support they are getting, isnt there any longer. The food is running out. Medication is running out. So it has gone from bad to worse. For you and family at home, wondering what is going to happen, what has not been like . At the beginning, on the wednesday, when they were first told they couldnt go into mexico, they were in really good spirits, they tried to stay positive. By friday, when the 21 cases had been confirmed, their whole. 0bviously they cases had been confirmed, their whole. 0bviously they became quite worried, as we did. But there has been no, we have had nothing from the government, we have had nothing from the consulate, so it is kind of like, no one has contacted us. 0nly through each other, only through social media, have we been able to contact them. I know you are trying to find information on their behalf because of course it is very difficult to do that when you are on board. Lets speak to jackie and maggie. Good morning to you both, i hope you can hear us, this is ben in london. Just explain to us, if you can. We are in salford. Oh, in sa lfo rd. Can. We are in salford. Oh, in salford. Explain to us a little of what you have been told and what the current condition is on board . Well, basically we have just been told what lynsey said to you. The captain put out a report earlier today saying that we were going to go into oakland and all these us passengers will be taken off and tested and put into quarantine, and anybody who needs to go to the hospital will be taken to the hospital. But they have said nothing about what they are going to do with. It isjust a waiting game. How are you coping day today . It is a long time to be inside one room. Well, it was all right but it is getting a bit boring now. Apart from that, these services terrible. I cant explain it. This situation is diabolical, the food situation. It seems as if they are running out of food. They sent up. Inaudible. And they said, we havent got anything. I said, all we need is a sandwich. Either a tuner or a cheese sandwich. They said, we havent got anything. Anyway, they sent up some spaghetti with a little bit of source and a little bit of cheese and it wasnt even cooked. The food is getting diabolical now. We cant eat it. We waited for two hours just to get a cup of tea this afternoon and i had to keep going out in the hall asking them where it was, phoning down, you cant get through anymore to room service. It has only been this afternoon, but it has only been this afternoon, but it has just deteriorated and we are quite worried about what is going to happen in the future. How long are we going to be on here . What sort of service . How are they going to look after us . Maggie runs out of drugs tomorrow but they said that was being dealt with. But up until now, we havent heard anything. Give us a sense of how far you are able to get out of your room . You say you are able to go into the corridor to pick up able to go into the corridor to pick up food and certainly communicate with certain people, but that is the limit . That is as far as you are allowed to go . Yeah, the minute you step out of that room, they hand you the trays of food, and the minute you step outside, they are telling you step outside, they are telling you to get back in your room. We havent got contact with anybody. Youve got no contact with anybody. If you could speak to the Prime Minister now, what would you like to say to him . Please get us off this ship. There is absolutely nothing wrong with us. We have had no tests to say, not l, neither of us. We are absolutely fine. No testing has been suggested for us whatsoever. So please, we want to come home. Jackie and maggie, stay with us, werejust going to speak to lynsey as well as in the studio. Lynsey, when you hear that, when you hear your mum and her friends there, clearly frustrated, they seem in good spirits but you get quite a sense of frustration and how worrying it is for them, for you sat here all that distance away, what do you think when you hear that. Well, i feel helpless because iam quite that. Well, i feel helpless because i am quite proactive, so i feel quite helpless. But the one thing that my family and jackies family, we have all said, is that we want something to happen. When they repatriated people from wuhan they got a plane, they got them home. There is 140 people now. Were not talking about 40 or 50 people that we re talking about 40 or 50 people that were the last plane with last plane that left wuhan. There is 140 british nationals on that ship. So we would want that to happen. We would also want them to have that quarantine on british soil. And we are quarantine on british soil. And we a re really quarantine on british soil. And we are really worried about that Mental Health, and their physical health, as well. The Mental Health and their physical health and the long term impact this is going to have. Do you feel some relief to know that they will be docking in oakland later on . No, because i know the americans are the only people that are going to be benefiting from that. Because they have been taken, they have said they have been taken, they have said they have been taken, they have said they have been taking supplies on board, but who is getting the supplies on . So you dont feel like they are being supported . No, not at all. And they havent heard anything from the british government. Neither have we. Nothing. Jackie and maggie, if we could talk to you again, tell me what you are expecting to do for the rest of the day . Of course, where you are, it is still very early. What will the next 24 hours look like for you . Well, were not sleeping very well, obviously, because we are worried. Weve got no fresh air. We have no fresh air, we cannot go on deck to have any fresh air. We cant leave the cabin at all. Weve got no communication with any other passengers. But tomorrow is going to be the same i should imagine. You know, worried, waiting to see what the captain has got to say. Do you feel reassured that you are going to get the help that you need . No. We dont. We dont. Because we just feel that obviously, it is understandable, the American Government is taking care of their own people first, and then we dont know where we are down the line. Jackie and maggie, thank you so much for talking to us today. We wish you all the best in the days ahead. And also lynsey, thank you for sharing that story with us. We will stay in touch with all of you and hopefully this comes to some sort of good conclusion pretty soon. Really nice to talk to you, lynsey, thank you very much, and thank you to jackie and maggie as well. Dont forget, you can keep to keep up to date with all the development around the coronavirus outbreak online. You can find out about the symptoms to watch out for and what it means for you on the bbc news app and on our website. Thats bbc. Co. Uk news. Such a worrying time for those on board, and as we saw with lindsay, for theirfamilies as board, and as we saw with lindsay, for their families as well. We promised earlier, holly, we cannot keep everybody in suspense, the secret behind sweet chariot. keep everybody in suspense, the secret behind sweet chariot. I was just going to say, it is funny when youre talking about jackie and maggie and what is going on with them, and the impact that the coronavirus has had on the six nations, for example, many sporting events, it really pales in comparison, doesnt it . We did have some six nations action yesterday, but i did promise i would tell you why england fans sing swing low, sweet chariot. Well, the mystery has been solved according to the rugby football union, and its all to do with a rugby league player. The rfu reckon it was first sung at twickenham when martin offiah, whose nickname is chariots, was playing in a sevens match in 1987. There is a bit more digging around to do. I thought it was going to be something more deeply profound. Are you suggesting that is not . He was asked about this and he said he didnt realise it himself, but the next time he hears it it will mean a little bit more for him. That is nice. Well, it was swinging well at many points for both england and wales yesterday. It was a rollercoaster of a match. A scrappy one. England were really dominant, when i get up to speed our looking good in the six nations. It has been a messy tournament so far, given the fact so many games have been postponed because of coronavirus. Between england and wales it is always a little bit fraught, isnt it . It was a rollercoaster game at twickenham, and while the 33 30 scoreline suggests a close contest, two late tries by wales when england were reduced to 13 men wasnt enough to prevent the reigning champions from their third defeat in a row. Adam wild was there. Fans arriving at twickenham unsure just when this six nations would end this years competition mired in uncertainty. But for the most part they were undeterred, because after the precaution and postponement, there came the passion. That was never in doubt. This is england against wales, after all. Few fixtures in world rugby quite like it. In full flight, there are few players quite like anthony watson. Power and pace, thats how england love to start. Commentator watson for the line wales couldnt stop him, but nor did they let england go entirely penalties keeping them within touching distance. That was until england found space out wide. Waiting in the wings, elliot daly. But if england had set the half time tone, here came the welsh response. From the kick off, back they came, running from one end of twickenham to the other. It finally fell to the hands ofjustin tipuric, a try to take the breath away. England winded, perhaps a little, but their recovery came in the form of manu tuilangi. If it looks like a stroll, the last few minutes were anything but. England had to do it without tuilangi. He was sent off. Wales made the most of the numbers. But two late tries couldnt quite get them close enough. And so for wales, a third consecutive defeat. England take the triple crown and keep alive their hopes of winning this years six nations. But its a tournament that faces an uncertain conclusion, and no one is quite sure how and indeed when it is actually going to end. A couple of talking points during that much. This was one of them. Lots of people noticed this from englandsjoe lots of people noticed this from englands joe marler, who lots of people noticed this from englandsjoe marler, who appears to be grabbing wales captain Alun Wyn Jones around the groin area. This is an offence that has a minimum punishment of a 12 week ban. This is what Alun Wyn Jones punishment of a 12 week ban. This is what alun wynjones said. You know, if i react, i get a red card. So its tough, isnt it . Hopefully world rugby will have a look at it. Joes a good bloke, lots of things happen on a rugby field. My question is. It is difficult as a captain these days, because you cant speak to a ref about anything, it feels. The judge obviously didnt see what happened and thats fine. Meanwhile, englands women are just one win away from a second successive grand slam after thrashing wales in front of a record crowd. England scored 10 tries in total, with poppy cleall getting a hat trick. Their match against wales was the only womens six nations fixture of the weekend, with scotland vs france and ireland vs italy both called off because of the coronavirus. Theres a big derby in the premier league today its Manchester United hosting rivals Manchester City at old trafford. In the scottish premiership, second placed rangers are away to ross county. Yesterday Leigh Griffiths scored a hat trick as celtic extended their lead at the top to 16 points. Thats after a 5 0 thrashing of st mirren. There were also wins for aberdeen, hamilton and saintjohnstone. Hearts drew 1 1 with motherwell and remain bottom. The womens t20 World Cup Final between australia and india is underway in melbourne. The attendance is expected to break the record for the biggest crowd at a womens sporting event. Before the match got underway, katy perry took centre stage and treated the crowd two of her best known songs. The record stands atjust over 90,000. That was the number at the football World Cup Final between United States and china in california in 1999. Alyssa healy looking particularly good form. We dont get enough dancing cricket fans. Could you cut that is a long video . I want more dancing cricket fans. There were no dancing cricket bouts where darren was. Bats. I hope so, yes this is a scene from a weather watcher looking out at the English Channel. We have a change in the weather today compared with what we had yesterday, we are all in the same boat after the overnight rain clears away, were going to see a mixture of sunny spells but also some rather blustery showers. This was the main rain band of the past few hours, it has been clearing away from Eastern England. The jacket rain is currently affecting parts of yorkshire and lincolnshire, that is going to move away and then we get some sunny spells. And these shows come rattling in, a lot of shows to come rattling in, a lot of shows to come for southern england, wales, Northern Ireland and western scotland. Some of those could be heavy with hail and thunder. There will be some snow in the scottish mountains as well. There was ours western scotland and the north east of england. And still some gusty winds perhaps today when those heavier showers come along. And temperatures slipping away to around 89d, temperatures slipping away to around 8 9d, still making double figures for a while across eastern parts of england. A lot of showers today, more showers to come during this evening. Again, some of them on the heavy side reaching parts of england for a while. The tendency later in the night is for the showers to ease away and skies to clear. There is enough of a breeze to prevent temperatures falling from below three, four degrees and maybe a touch of rust in the north of scotland, some icy showers. Some spells of sunshine to start the day but it will be carding up from the west, another weather system coming in to bring some more rain, eventually that will reason eastern parts of scotland and Eastern England by the end of the day. 0ut towards the west that rain arriving through the day, the winds will be strengthening, too. That the weather front and ran across all areas on monday evening and monday night, some trailing weather fronts on the scene for tuesday and we are looking all the way back towards the azores down here because this is where our air is coming from and the potential for some High Temperatures across england and were was. Further north we start with some rain england and wales, allowing brighter skies for Northern England, and ireland, showers for scotland. Some patchy rain further south. Tuesday, the windiest day, up to Gale Force Winds. But temperatures in double figures. Sunshine in lincolnshire, the south east of england and 17 degrees is possible. That will be a bit of a shock to the system. It wont last, im afraid, because as you can see from our outlook, temperatures will be dropping to anywhere they should be for this time of year, around 8 11 degrees with and showers. Back to you two. Still, it is moving in the right direction and will do for me. We will be back with the headlines ina we will be back with the headlines in a moment. Now its time for the travel show. Its a city thats home to the worlds three major monotheistic faiths, drawing in more than 3. 5 million tourists a year. And, of course, its the diversity of ancient monuments, civilisations, and architecture that everyone finds so compelling about jerusalem. And historyjust keeps on giving, because every day, even now, new discoveries and secrets are being revealed and, in fact, one of the worlds most significant and controversial excavations is taking place right underneath my feet. Hi. Franny. Nice to meet you. Rajan. Hi. Welcome, welcome to the city of david. Its the most spectacular place to be in israel. 0l, lets go and take a look. Franny is a guide and hugely excited about the excavation of what was the pilgrimage road 2,000 years ago. So these are all original stairs that were walking up. It was discovered by accident after a water pipe burst on the road above it during a snowstorm in 2004. Were about to have a big climb. Yep. Lets do it. Up we go. The pilgrimage road runs from the ancient siloam pool to temple mount, also known as haram al sharif in arabic, at the top. Its been almost totally excavated now, and this is what they discovered paving stones in almost pristine condition. So we are now walking on original 2,000 year old limestone streets that was the centre of all ofjerusalem. This is the original limestone . The original. Perfect as if it was walked on yesterday. It was in the 19th century that archaeologists first twigged that the ancient city of david wasnt actually within the famous old city walls ofjerusalem, but here, further south. But why is it so significant anyway . So, the city of david is pretty much ancientjerusalem. It is thejerusalem that starts as the capital of this area, 3,000 years ago, which means everything thatjerusalem is today pretty much we can learn about it, whether its politically, religiously, culturally. This former car park is where more incredible discoveries have been unearthed, from the roman and byzantine periods and before. Its going to become the Visitors Centre when all the work is complete on the pilgrimage road. As we go down, um, were going back in time. Astonishing. When you see all of these different layers, were pretty much going back thousands of years. You have a house right down there, just right below us, its from 586 bce. Up here, with these columns, were talking about the roman time period. Thats already 300 years later and were only, you know, a couple of metres up. Wow. So its just its really so small. Youre actually walking up and down through historic ages. Youre walking up and down through time, exactly. While the project team insist utmost safety for local residents is the priority, that isnt quite how everybody feels, especially among the palestinian community, who live here, in silwan, above the city of david site, which they call wadi hilweh. Local residents say cracks and sloping like this to dozens of houses have been caused by the excavation, complaining its like enduring an earthquake. Nonetheless, the Israeli Supreme Court rejected those claims. As with many issues injerusalem, there are two quite different stories being told. And aziz, a travel writer and guide, offers the alternative palestinian perspective through his tours in the city. I met him at damascus gate. Sojerusalem has many layers. And under us here there is a road from the second century. From the second century, going underneath here . Yeah, its the old market. Aziz feels its important to recognise here in the market in the old city, local arab families have been here for generations. Azizs tour Company Offers visitors to many cities around the world with complicated histories a chance to experience an alternative perspective to whats in front of them. The whole building was actually under where were standing now. And for here, given the chance, he thinks there could be a whole different type of tourist route injerusalem. The city of david will tell you the jewish story there, which is legitimate, and its important to be told, but it doesnt really tell you the story of the palestinian residents there, it doesnt tell you the history of the islamic groups that have lived injerusalem as well. And so if you come tojerusalem and go to the city of david only, you will hear one narrative, a single narrative, and thats not fair to a city that has so much history, so most diverse history it hasjewish history, it has christian history, it has muslim history, and each of those has multiple histories as well. So heres the rub, injerusalem, any excavation is going to be both amazing and controversial at the same time. But for followers of three of the worlds major religions, curious tourists, and lovers of history alike, the fact is this city will always be a draw. And now, in the latest of our series about people who travel differently, for sue pascoe, ever since she transitioned from being a man to a woman, shes found it difficult to gain acceptance while travelling, until that is, she went to india. They say travel is good for the soul and it certainly is. Its a change its broadening my horizons and ive always loved travel. My name is sue pascoe. I love the travel experience and i happen to be a woman with a trans past. So being able to travel now as sue, im at peace with myself. And in the past when i travelled, often i was so in my head dealing with my own problems that i didnt always see the beauty around me. Its like the difference between listening to things in stereo and seeing things in 3d. The leaves, the trees, the sounds, so much more of me is in the here and now that all my senses, um, see things differently. My travel choices, and i think about them quite carefully. One of my trips abroad was to go to india. And going through heathrow was really difficult. There were comments, there were nods, there were things i overheard somebody say, look at that man in the dress. And i wanted to shrink away. And i got on the plane and i felt really low. The stewardesses were brilliant. I was on a ba flight and they were really, really nice. And. But passengers around me werent. And i could overhear quite a bit of the conversation and it wasnt really pleasant. It was, what is this person doing in this part of the cabin with us . And it was. Not at all pleasant. And so i laid down and put the blanket over me and just shut the world out. I got off the plane in india and i could not believe and understand or could have comprehended the difference in the way that i was welcomed. I got off the plane, and before i got through the baggage hall, people were coming up to me, putting money in my hand and wanting their picture taken with me. And i couldnt understand this. And it kept on happening. And what i learned was that in indian culture, i was being regarded as someone who was semi divine. And that was my moment when i decided that id found one place in the world that no matter if everywhere else didnt accept me as sue, here was a place where i could be sue. Today, travelling as a woman with a trans past is culturally significant for me. And seeing how different Societies Act towards trans people is. Is fun. The biggest thing that i have on my face today is a smile. And when you interact with people with a smile, your whole experience is different. And thats all we have time for today. And join us next week, when. Adi takes a look back at some of our best trips and adventures this year on the show. 0h, hold on a minute so catch us for that if you can. But until then, from me and the rest of the travel show team here injerusalem, its goodbye. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with ben thompson and nina warhurst. 0ur headlines today. New emergency laws to tackle coronavirus as the government says it wants to make it easier to recruit volunteers to care for those who become ill. Italy also brings in emergency measures to fight the outbreak, which could stop people entering or leaving the worst affected regions. Protests, celebrations and calls for action people around the world mark International Womens day. Good morning. England hold on to secure victory over wales as they secure the triple crown and condemn the reigning six nations champions to their Third Straight defeat. Could morning, after the overnight rain we have a mixture of sunshine and blustery showers today, but throws more wet and windy weather to come early next week. Join me later for all the details. Its sunday the 8th of march. Our top story. Emergency laws which would help to recruit millions of healthcare volunteers are being drawn up by the government, as ministers prepare for a likely coronavirus outbreak here. The bill, expected to go through parliament by the end of the month, would make it easier for potential volunteers to take time off work. 0ur Political Correspondent, chris mason, has the details. Down the decades, people have been volunteering for the stjohn ambulance. The organisation has a history going back over 140 years. The government wants to make it easier for those who volunteer now to do so for longer if, as expected, the coronavirus outbreaks gets worse. Around three Million People volunteer, in what the government calls a health, Community Health and social care setting, for organisations like the stjohn ambulance or the red cross. Severe restrictions have been imposed on around 16 Million People in parts of northern italy, in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus. All but emergency travel in and out of the affected areas has been banned, and schools have been shut. 0ur correspondent, bethany bell is in bologna this morning. Bethany, what kind of lockdown will this be . How will people feel this day to day . How will people feel this daytoday . This is a big step up in italys measures to try and stop the spread of the coronavirus. It is affecting a number of areas in northern italy including lombardy and its capital milan the, and also other places including the big tourist towns of venice. We are here in bologna which isjust outside tourist towns of venice. We are here in bologna which is just outside the zone. The people who are in the sewers, it will not be a total lockdown, we are told trains and planes will continue to run, but people will be asked whether there travel is absolutely essential. They have been asked not to move around, even within those zones, and schools and universities will remain closed, cafe saint restaurants will stay open if you can maintain about a metres distance in between each other. Cafe is and restaurants. Strong measures but people are asking if this is all coming a bit too late. There has been a surge in the number of new infections, 1200 over the past day. 0ver the number of new infections, 1200 over the past day. Over 230 people have died, and some people are saying, is this all, just a little bit too late . 0ther saying, is this all, just a little bit too late . Other people are saying, what are we doing to our economy, because of it cannot move around, italys struggling economy will really suffer. So many implications of that lockdown, and i wonder how confident the authorities are that this is enough, because where you are is the focus of effo rts where you are is the focus of efforts to try to restrict its spread, but do they think this is enough to contain it . They are trying, they were hoping last week, the talk was all about the figures of new infections would show whether the containment measures which they had put into place so far were actually working on the full you may remember they had quarantined a view, £11 in northern italy, to try and stop the spread. Now it seems that this, we have had a lot more cases, and they are keeping this bigger lockdown in place. It is a partial lockdown. Meanwhile, in the us, a cruise ship stranded by a coronavirus outbreak off the coast of San Francisco will dock in oakland. 3,500 passengers and crew have been onboard the grand princess since last week. The ship will be restocked with supplies and everyone on board will be tested for the virus. So far, 21 passengers have tested positive for the disease. The new chancellor, rishi sunak, is set to respond to the threat of coronavirus in his first budget later this week. Among other spending, the chancellor says he will take targetted measures to protect the economy in the budget on wednesday. 0ur Political CorrespondentJonathan Blake has more. It doesnt give him much space for other things. No, it will dominate the budget on wednesday, as well as the budget on wednesday, as well as the practical logistical majors you have been hearing about that the government is going to take to mitigate the effects of coronavirus, there will be economic measures as well. We are hearing from the chancellor this morning, not too much detail, but targeted measures to help businesses get through this period if, as he put it, people stop spending money in the normal way. We might see the extension or expansion ofa might see the extension or expansion of a scheme that israel already in place to help businesses struggling to give them more time to pay taxes that they over. Beyond that we will see, businesses will be looking closely to see what measures the chancellor has to help them and ease the burden of the Economic Impact that the virus will almost certainly have here in the uk. Wejust dont know the extent over yet. That will dominate but there will be other things, the treasury has given us some news about doubling the amount of funding the government spent on flood defences. £5 billion over the next five years going towards 2000 or so new flood defence schemes in various parts of the uk. All the details and crucially how the government plans to pay for all this to come on wednesday. The duchess of sussex, Meghan Markle, has urged men to do more to respect women during a surprise visit to a school. She appeared at an assembly at a school in dagenham in london ahead of International Womens day. Good on him. It wouldnt have happened in my day, that is what ben was saying earlier. Very confident young man. Just jealous of was saying earlier. Very confident young man. Justjealous of his confidence. We will talk more about International Womens day and a minute, bullets checking on the weather. It is warming up a little, isnt it . Yes, pleasant enough when this garden is out, and we should have a bit more sunshine on offer across the uk today, a bit more of that song compared with yesterday when we had all the cloud. Weather watcher picture looking across the English Channel in dorset. Today will be sound coming out, peppered by some blustery showers. We had rain overnight, gave about 100 millimetres of rain in the highlands, together with lomas we have seen some flooding. Wetter weather clearing the east coast right now, spells of sunshine coming through. The showers are rattling m, through. The showers are rattling in, and those will be fairly frequent across southern england, wales, western england, Northern Ireland, western scotland, with hail and thunder in the heavy ones, snow and thunder in the heavy ones, snow and the scottish mountains. Still strong and gusty wind in the heavy showers, not quite as windy as yesterday. Temperatures around eight or nine celsius, may make double figures for a while across eastern parts of england. Showers around today continuing into this evening, particularly for the western side. A few will arrive in eastern areas for a while but later though showers are turning to fade away. Enough breeze to prevent temperatures following lower than three or four celsius, a touch of frost in the north east of scotland, perhaps the odd icy patch. Stray showers left over first thing about those will fade and we will get some sunshine to start the day. Looking to the west, changing weather again, cloud coming looking to the west, changing weatheragain, cloud coming in, rain, arriving in eastern scotland, was the end of the day as it turns wetter, the winner will pick up as well. Temperatures around eight or nine celsius. A spell of rain during monday evening, overnight before the west of that produce away. A string of weather fronts, all the way down to the azores. This is where some of ourair is coming to the azores. This is where some of our air is coming from on tuesday, the potential for some High Temperature is. Rain around and some cloud, easing off in Northern England, some sunshine here. Sunshine in quite a number of showers across scotland. She for england and wales, even into the afternoon, and it will be a windy day, the windiest of the next few days. Strong to force wins. Particularly across england and wales we get some sunshine across east anglia, ligature and the south east, 16 17dc is quite possible on tuesday. It will not last because it cools down again through the rest of the week into the weekend, bridges 8 11dc and sunshine is sunshine and showers once again, like today. Today marks International Womens day a worldwide event that celebrates female empowerment and womens rights and this year it will be focusing on gender equality. For more than a century, people around the world have been marking the 8th of march, but what has been achieved over the generations . Weve been to ask people in manchester what the day means to them. International womens day is an opportunity to celebrate our women, to encourage them for the good work they have been doing, because we have strong women. A built opportunity to sell break the amazing women in the world, recognise the progress we have made. A celebration of everything that women have achieved in the past, id also looking forward to the future and see what is still left to do. Women deserve the right to have a chance to do this, not men saying, you have to do this adult women cannot have a decision. Ijust believe there should be a in everything. I see the world differently, i see the barriers still in place. We didnt think that it is fair that men and women used to be treated differently. Add still are. So we wanted to change that. Were joined by three generations of women from the same family, but first lets speak to vivienne hayes, chief executive of the charity womens resource centre. A good chat we can have about this this morning, but give us a sense of the importance of International Womens day, because you have been working on this for 30 years, you have quite a good understanding of what it means. I have been working on womens rights for 30 years or more, internationalwomens on womens rights for 30 years or more, International Womens day is a marker to honour all the work of millions of women for hundreds of yea rs. Millions of women for hundreds of years. The day started over 100 yea rs years. The day started over 100 years ago with women marching for their rights, and so it is very much about improving womens rights and making that visible. We were really we work really hard to assure that our voices are heard, because often it is a bit co opted into wearing a t shirt etc, but my organisation as part of a group of 20,000 organisations that work every day on womens rights, we have not heard. Womens rights are rolling back. So it is great to be able to hear today to talk about it and also give a little plug for our tampon tax campaign which is telling the government to pay back the tax to the womens sector as promised by George Osborne in 2015, because were not getting in. International womens day has taken off a new prominence over the past decade. What are your thoughts on the direction it is taking . what are your thoughts on the direction it is taking . I think it does come with sacrifices, because when things get co opted and mainstream, the real meaning tends to get rubbed off, so we see Multinational Companies who might not have the best track record in promoting womens rights co opting it. Also it detracts from the real message and it is great that i am here today, but usually we do not talk about the work of the womens sector, of the actaviss, the women who die every year and the women who give their lives fighting for our rights. You talk about progress made, but also you touched on some of those rights that had been rolled back. Where in your view have been the biggest rights . What has changed in that time, what are you worried about . What are the areas where you feel these rights have been revoked . I think feel these rights have been revoked . Ithinka feel these rights have been revoked . I think a lot of gains had been made so that my daughter put my generation can enjoy things that perhaps mum over there couldnt, having a bank account, mortgage, rape in marriage was not made illegal until 1991, access to abortion, contraception, equal pay, even though it is not implement it. I think that is part of the issue, we have lots of great laws, the equality act, but the government does not prioritise implementing it. It is quite shameful that where there is a global epidemic of violence against women and girls, although the coronavirus is a big issue, the global epidemic of violence against women and girls is not prioritised agape is centuries old. Two women no week die in this country, we have a long way to go. That is something we should be aware of. The edges days a year. A lot of who we are as women, the role models we have, begin at home. Lets bring in you. Three generations of the same family. Terms of being a woman, how have things changed . Janet, sorry. When you look at your daughter and your granddaughter, how have things changed . Daughter and your granddaughter, how have things changed . Tremendously. It is unbelievable the changes. But there is still an awful long way to go. Really, it did not dawn on me until i was into my 20s and had a family that there is more to life that this, i die started to read the guardian and that this, i die started to read the guardian and i happy reading the guardian and i happy reading the guardian for the last 50 years. Andl guardian for the last 50 years. And i started. Most of my awareness has come from that, particularly years ago the womens page, but today i still read the guardian. I am sorry to go on about it, but i was married at 20 and had my daughter had 21, and by the time i was 207 had two boys as well. Ok, i got into my mid 30s and thoughts, so thenl got into my mid 30s and thoughts, so then i went and trained as a nurse. That opened up a lot more for me. You all, from different generations, so it isjust amazing the progress. You all come from. Do you look at some of those changes and wonder how different your life might have been . What is the most striking . Education. Education. Ileft what is the most striking . Education. Education. I left school at 15. Add that was just expected . Yes, if you didnt pass your 11 plus, you went to secondary modern. That was 1948. It was the first year, here in salford, and i think it was when it was implemented in sa lfo rd , it was when it was implemented in salford, so the school i went to, it was the first year as a secondary modern weight before it had been what they called a through school to 14. Did that have a bearing on how you brought up your daughter . You we re you brought up your daughter . You were determined she would have different opportunities . Yes, all three, and as the girl, i wanted her to achieve as much. Did you feel that your mum was keen for you to have opportunities . Very much so, encouraged around education and encouraged around education and encouraged to do the sort of things i wanted to. It was the sort of 70s, so it is quite liberal, i was given a stable background to be able to explore and i went off to london to train asa explore and i went off to london to train as a nurse. My mother was almost my role model. For me, i have been think about this, the biggest experience for me, i went to live and work, i took my daughter, to uganda, and and work, i took my daughter, to uganda, and i put a photo of us. When we were, they we go, just as we arrived in africa. We lived there for four years and it was a real formative experience. I was 30, a young woman, i do with very different. But the power of those women and the strength of those women and the strength of those women in that country, and as i came today in a taxi, i had a lovely whatsapp from miriam who used to look after roxy, saying happy International Womens day. As she is a uganda, and i saw herforthe first time in 25 years last year, i detest because she works with me and looked after, she trained as a premier schoolteacher, which is fantastic, teaches at an international school. My mother passed on that empowerment and i have feel i have posted onto my daughters, but also to other women. Pressure on you, roxy to carry on the mantle. Laughter i think laughter ithinki laughter i think i am fortunate to have not just one Strong Female role model but to my life. It is all i needed. My but to my life. It is all i needed. My mother brought my sister and i are poor than her own, we were never lacking, because we just had such great female role models. My sister and i her own. Was encouraging. I know how lucky i i dont know how different my world is to how it was for them, it has changed a lot. So much progress in some respects, but also not an other areas, and some of those games being rolled back. Do you feel that day to day . Rolled back. Do you feel that daytoday . Yes, i have quite a few concerns daily about being a women and just how we kind of scene time such a disconnect with certain areas in terms of equal pay and the mental knows that women experience with childcare, and you have the most supportive partner but a lot of it still falls on you. We still have a big issue with violence against women. In particular, Sexual Harassment just seems to women. In particular, Sexual Harassmentjust seems to be prevalent among all women. Harassmentjust seems to be prevalent among all womenm harassmentjust seems to be prevalent among all women. It is interesting you talk about having children, elizabeth has got in touch to say, remember when i left work in 19 signify to have my twins, returning to work wasnt an option, should i have decided to do so, i would be looked down on as a bad mother. So progress in that respect, but lots of pressure on parents to make that decision about who stays at home. Yes, i decided not to return after having my summer because i couldnt quite figure out the cost of nursery with going back to work. Initially i stayed at home to work. Initially i stayed at home to look after him id i found to work. Initially i stayed at home to look after him id ifound out really ha rd, to look after him id ifound out really hard, because a woman actually accused me of being a bad feminist for not returning to work and for continuing this idea of women in the home. I am back at work now, my work is fantastic, i am very lucky i have a flexible position and it fits around childcare, but not every woman has that choice, and there is a long way to go. Nursery fees are more than 40 of my mortgage, so a kind of puts it into perspective. Roxie touched or the dual pressure that women have to be a mother, a wife, but also to maintain their career, otherwise they can be attacked for not being a good feminist. That is what is, some of the progress. Well, i would like not to focus on the idea of what a good feminist is, because feminism is about women having their rights, and fora is about women having their rights, and for a lot of women in this country, itjust and for a lot of women in this country, it just means and for a lot of women in this country, itjust means being able to feed their children. With the devastating impact of universal credit. So women still do all they ca re credit. So women still do all they care predominately, and women are not paid equally, and also women are psyched or lose they jobs not paid equally, and also women are psyched or lose theyjobs where they are pregnant. Although on some levels it looks like we have moved on, when you scratch the surface, webinar still experiencing massive levels of discrimination just because they are a woman. Some of it is implicit, sometimes a woman well behaved in a certain way which people will see as a male trade and be criticised. Somebody called me fierce the other day, i bet you have never been called fierce. fierce the other day, i bet you have never been called fierce. I would ta ke never been called fierce. I would take that as a compliment. It is, it is how black women are called aggressive, joint not allowed to be assertive as a woman, but i say women, do not buy into that. Stand up women, do not buy into that. Stand up strong. There is a lot of nodding on the side of the sofa. That is what is so astonishing, such Different Levels or people held to Different Levels or people held to Different Levels, i wonder what you make of roxie in terms of the lives you have, so similar because you are in the same family but so different in so many ways. What do you make of the options that are available to roxie . It is just the options that are available to roxie . It isjust incredible. So much has changed about childcare and so on, it is totally different, that has been almost an education in itself. The way the young people cope these days, young women. Where i live, i see them pushing their bug is about, another one trotting at the side, and they disappear and obviously they have gone back to a job somewhere. Thats what a pressure is. A lot more men pushing buggies as well. Absolutely. I had pushing buggies as well. Absolutely. Ihada pushing buggies as well. Absolutely. I had a interesting experience on friday night, in connection with International Womens day, there is always a church service, at this year it was organised by the women of sinbad way. That was really interesting. Add the struggles that they have in places like africa, but they have in places like africa, but they are coming through as the powerful ones, because what they are getting now is at least a primary education mark which is a big help. I was education mark which is a big help. Iwasa education mark which is a big help. I was a skater asked, you have a son now, so you are bringing up a boy. I am bringing up boys. I wasjust going to ask. Bringing our boys and making them aware of the importance of women are to be respectful is a real privilege. Yes, it is a duty to show them both size, so we have to have a good balance in our house, daddy picks them up from and does a lot the care, we try and show both mum and dad can do both. And show him it is ok to be who you are. We tried to put too much emphasis on, this is a boys toy, this is a girls colour, he can choose how he wa nts to girls colour, he can choose how he wants to grow up and every body. Lynn, you are in the middle, wanting to distill these messages. How important his today . to distill these messages. How important his today . I was determined yesterday and today to celebrate women. We try to bring my youngest daughter along as well, but she was at Home Decorating her new house while her partner is at the football, which i think says a lot these days, because she was doing that, so that it is good. It is initiative thing, and i have always tried with my two to actually give them that strength and empower them that they can do what they want, they do not have to stick to types, they do not have to stick to types, they can do what they want. Just because they are a woman doesnt icily curtail them. Because they are a woman doesnt icily curtailthem. If because they are a woman doesnt icily curtail them. If you choose to stay at home and be with your children, that is part of the choice. Absolutely. Thank you very much, all of you. There is an international mainstay, it is on november 19. Do they need it . Laughter but we are talking today about International Womens day. Joy the day. Thank you. Coming up in the next half hour. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with ben thompson and nina warhurst. Its 8 31, heres a summary of this mornings main news. New emergency laws are being drawn up to help the nhs to cope with a potential coronavirus outbreak in the uk. The measures, which could be in force by next month, include recruiting an army of volunteer Health Workers by making it easier for people to take time off work, or return from retirement. The number of people confirmed to have the virus has risen to 209 thats 45 more than yesterday. Meanwhile the italian Prime Minister has said at least 16 Million People are now in mandatory quarantine in some northern parts of the country, including milan and venice. The measures include strict travel restrictions as well as School Closures in the worst affected areas of lombardy. The lock down will last until early april. In the us, a cruise ship stranded by a coronavirus outbreak off the coast of San Francisco will dock in oakland. 3500 passengers and crew have been on board the grand princess, since last week. The ship will be re stocked with supplies and everyone on board will be tested for the virus. So far twenty one passengers have tested positive for the disease. Spending on flood defences in england is set to double in the up coming budget. 5. 2 billion pounds has been allocated to build 2000 new schemes in the next six years. The government says this will offer better protection to home and businesses. The rest of the uk will receive the same percentage increase for their own flood defences. There was excitement and disbelief for School Pupils in dagenham as they received a surprise visit from Meghan Markle. The duchess of sussex met pupils before giving a speech timed for International Womens day where she encouraged youngsters to speak up for what they believe to be right she also called on men to protect, value and appreciate the women in their lives. Nnuel the one who gave me a slap this morning. Apologies, it was accidental. This morning. Apologies, it was accidental. You were the one. Those are the main stories this morning. Wales being the champion is in the six nations at the minute adds a bit more edge. Its a funny one. We are not sure when they next match will be. England are still in with a chance of winning it due to the result yesterday but still quite a few matches to go. It was a rollercoaster game at twickenham and while the 33 points to 30 scoreline suggests a close contest, two late tries by wales when england were reduced to 13 men wasnt enough to prevent the reigning champions from their third defeat in a row. This england had to do it without tuilangi. So a hard fought win for england and after ther match head coach eddiejones seemed to imply that referee ben okeefe was biased in favour of wales. Jones said that at the end of the match it was 13 against 16 with englands ellis genge sin binned and manu tuilagi sent off ijust find it bizarre, you know . I usually dont comment but i dont see how you can tackle a guy. So you might as welljust say if someone is tackling like that you let him go, because how else are you supposed to tackle him . Like, this about where your arms are what a load of rubbish. Manu was trying to kill the tackle, that was the only thing he was trying to do. Absolute rubbish. So, im sorry, i broke my rule. There was one other talking point during that match. A lot of people have picked up on this from englandsjoe marler who appears to be grabbing wales captin alun wynjones around the groin area. An offence tha has a minimum punishment of a 12 weeks ban. This is whatjones said after the match. Meanwhile england women are just one win away from a second successive grandslam after thrashing wales in front of a record crowd. Katy perry doesnt do things by halves, even when 20 weeks pregnant. Yummy bit of a mixed bag on social media, some people saying it is a bit early in the morning for a dancing cricket bat. Never too early. Yellow im with you. Author Catherine Isaac is here to tell us whats caught her eye. Coronavirus on the front of all the newspapers, i am going to put my business out on your talk about stockpiling. My business hat on here to talk about. Businesses saying they will not run out, the stock is not perishable. Youll make a lot of videos appearing on social media yesterday mac a lot of videos appearing on social media yesterday mac a lot of videos appearing online on social media yesterday of people losing their minds. Tins of chopped tomatoes being chucked into their trolleys and just interestingly, reading what the psychologists say about it, it is irrational but the supermarkets are saying theres still plenty of supplies and they can continue supplies but in an event or an outbreak like this, people like to feel some kind of control and they are doing something to attempt to prepare. This is purely a logistics thing because they have someone stocking the shelf once a day, usually overnight, and the reason youre seeing empty shelves is it has thrown that system out of kilter because people are buying more than they should. There is enough of it, theyjust cannot get us on the shelves cricket. Absolutely, and they are saying you do not need 97 toilet rolls had not your bed with a load of spam. There are meetings being held today, there are meetings being held today, there are plans in place. Apparently the government is intending to share data on where there may be large numbers of the virus, so that supermarkets can make sure there are extra supplies in those places. The advice at the moment as this is not advice at the moment as this is not a necessary measure. It is interesting. I want to talk about this. I spotted this earlier. This is an interesting way of drumming up interest in your arcade. This is a man or a company that has put in toilet roll into one of those arcade grabbing machines. So in demand are they. You can try to wind one. They say this is not a humorous thing, there is plenty of total where they are but they have put this on because they thought people might be more willing to spend a bit of money to wind one of those than they would a soft toy. There is a whole new ta ke a soft toy. There is a whole new take on the hoarding and stockpiling. Well, we are stockpiling. Well, we are stockpiling toilet robot in america it is bullets. Try to work out the logic behind that, not entirely sure. logic behind that, not entirely sure. We are stockpiling toilet roll but in america it is bullets. The way it spreads is touching your mother your face, the way it spreads is touching your mother yourface, this is what the way it spreads is touching your mother your face, this is what this person was saying, then they fix your finger to person was saying, then they fix yourfinger to turn the person was saying, then they fix your finger to turn the page of the script. At so much habitually has to change. The times is a great story on traffic light changes across greater manchester, trying to help pensioners get across the road. This isa pensioners get across the road. This is a pilot scheme being trialled in manchester where they are trying to bring in age friendly neighbourhoods and on average, apparently on a crossing, a green man stays lit for four seconds, and they say. It is not a lot. That is before it starts flashing then it is six seconds. When you put it like that, it is not a lot of time, especially if youre not quite so sprightly on your feet, so they are trialling this in certain areas which means elderly people can have a bit more time to cross the road. There are parts in one place where you have two different buttons, if you need a bit longer, you have a different button. You would not see this in Central London because you have to bomb it across the road there. We know when we speak to elderly people and talk about loneliness, they are often made to feel like an inconvenience and being told to hurry up all the time feeds into that. Like being invited to slow down a little bit is great for them. And parents of Young Children as well. Lets talk about something entirely different. If you have your house painted a weird and wonderful colour, you will get more for it, apparently. Is somebody who has children and used to watch balor mori with the brightly coloured houses, there are a few of these streets up and down the country. If youve got an identical terrace house, next to a street next door, it adds about 20 onto your house price. I wonder if certain colours not money off the value of your house, if it is something garish like yellow or something. There is a beautiful rainbow of colours there, youd have to be really organised with your neighbours. Like mac dre lottery to pick out what colour you get. Might make you are off to read the news on the Andrew Marr Show. But you will get the weather. This is where we say goodbye to nina who is going to read the news for the Andrew Marr Show. Heres darren with a look at this mornings weather. A bit blustery, some sunshine. This picture sums it up nicely, some rain overnight and, in the last 24 hours, very wet over the highlands in scotland. That is our rain band, cluster of heavy downpours following on behind. That has now exited out into the north sea. Some sunshine. Not too many showers here. More frequent showers, heavy showers across southern england, wales, western scotland, some hail and thunder in those and some snow over the tops of the scottish mountains as well. Still quite a blustery wind, maybe not as strong as it was yesterday. May be making double figures across eastern part of england. Some showers to come today. Especially for the western side of the uk, some heavy downpours. If you running into eastern areas. Showers becoming much fewer towards the end of the night, enough of a breeze to keep temperatures at 3 4dc and may a touch cooler in the north east, some icy patches here. Some roach i was left over, they will not last long. Some sunshine but only for a while because this water is coming in from the atlantic, cup cloud, rain, reaching eastern scotland, Eastern England. The winds are getting stronger as well. 8 10dc. Those winds all by the rain across all areas during monday evening. More weather fronts threatening some more rain on tuesday, and the air coming all the way from the azores, a long way south, potential for this and temperature is on tuesday but weve got cloud, outbreaks of rain, clearing away from Northern England and sunshine and showers following here, Northern Ireland and quite a few showers for most places but turning dryerfor few showers for most places but turning dryer for england few showers for most places but turning dryerfor england and few showers for most places but turning dryer for england and wales. This is the windiest day over the next few, strong to Gale Force Winds but double figures. Get some sunshine to east anglia, lincolnshire, the south east of england with temperatures reaching 1617dc be england with temperatures reaching 16 17dc be nice if it lasted, its not going to because we are back into cooler, fresher air for the rest of the week and into the following weekend. So much so that tempers will be dropping and we may well find a bit more snow arriving over some of those northern hills, and basically the outlook still rather unsettled with some sunshine and showers. Try to dodgy showers today if you can and we will get the sunshine. A change that there is no name storm. You sound disappointed. We dont need any more, weve had enough, three last month and we dont need any more. No sign of one but well wait to see what happens. Thank you very much. So much relief for the people caught up in all sorts of bad weather, the devastation that weve seen of the pictures that has caused. Some light relief. England have the chance to get their tournament back on track later today when they play japan in the she believes cup. Games between the usa and england are games between the usa and england a re close games between the usa and england are close in the past but three days ago, phil nevilles side were no match for the world champions. The 20 match for the world champions. The 2 0 defeat in orlando led many to believe whether england are going in the right direction. The gap is not widening. Some of the football we played, particularly in the first half, shows we can still compete against the best. What they have that we need to develop as the ruthlessness and when you get in opportunity, the ball in the back of the net. After that disappointment in florida, england have picked themselves up and travelled north to newjersey, desperate to keep their cup hopes alive and stop worrying run of form. With six defeats in nine games, england are in the day ofa nine games, england are in the day of a lift and goals. Phil neville will turn to beth england for the game against japan with will turn to beth england for the game againstjapan with the will turn to beth england for the game against japan with the free scoring chelsea striker being given a chance to start. And this young squad knows the pressure is on. This is tournament preparation and, in a tournament, if you lose your tournament, if you lose your tournament, you have no time to slip up tournament, you have no time to slip up and no room for mistakes again, so there is more pressure. Maybe from ourselves more so than actually the outside. We know that we cant afford another loss. If you want to wind the tournament. Thats what we came here to do. Japan world champions in 2011 but this team is one in transition. They lost their opening match 3 1 to spain and england have beaten them twice in the last 12 months. Its a racket that will give the belief although, whatever happens, phil neville has a welcome distraction after his twin sister tracey announced the birth of her first sister tracey announced the birth of herfirst child. Sister tracey announced the birth of her first child. My little nephew is the most gorgeous thing ever and when i woke up at 4am, 5am in orlando, ive got to say, when you think about the pressures and expectations of football, when you see a little baby at the other side of the phone and look at something so beautiful and gorgeous, the amount of happiness it has brought to the whole of the family, it puts life into perspective really and ive got to say, even though i love this tournament, the first thing ill do it i get home is go around and give my little nephew a cuddle. In the meantime, neville will hope this latest destination is where england can change course. Glaucoma is the worlds leading cause of blindness and if youre of black african or caribbean origin, you have an increased risk of developing the disease. Former blue peter presenter diane louisejordan is campaigning to make people more aware of the symptoms. Shes recently been to rwanda to see the impact its had there. Im here in rwanda to witness first hand the incredible work of cbm. It takes 3. 5 hours to reach the village where we finally get to meet a very special boy. Its such a pleasure and an honour to meet you, and to meet sen. Have you ever been able to see . No. What is it like not being able to see anything . In the 21st century, there is still places on this incredibly rich earth where people dont even have the basics. The basics of site. This is the moment. That is a miracle, you can see. I really hope this moves people as much as it moves me to help even more little atms. Diane louise jordan joins us from our cambridge newsroom. Good warning to you. You like good morning. Youve got personal experience of glaucoma and your family. Maybe just explain that connection and why that trip to rwanda was so important for you. My father actually lost his sight in one eye when he was when i was a kid. He managed a bit with one eye and then, later on, you discovered it too late. The doctors were amazing but my dad literally had virtually like a pinprick of site. That really debilitated him, how he lost his confidence and it had a huge detrimental impact you have any later part of his life. Of course, your trip rwanda meeting the child there are, etienne, who lost his sight, and you said it in the video, you can gain a world that seemingly so rich, which makes you angry, and these things can be solved, and you can see the effect it has on people like sen. I went with my 12yearold grandson and i wanted him. You wa nt grandson and i wanted him. You want it to him to come along. My 12 year old etienne. 0ne want it to him to come along. My 12 year old etienne. One of the things my grandson, preston, couldnt understand and what did upset me was the fact that this little boy, beautiful little kick, ten year old for all of us live, until two weeks ago, beautiful little etienne. For all of his life, until two weeks ago, he couldnt see. He could have been having a normal childhood but ten years of her life had been put on hold, never been to school and all the other things, playing football, things children can do, he didnt have the opportunity and you didnt show it in the clip but theres a moment where, after his sight is restored, i had the privilege of witnessing, for the very first time, him putting pen to paper and enjoying all the colours of the colourful pens, and drawing his first state man. Ijust thought, ten years old, my grand daughter has so much more to her life than that, so i am a bit disturbed that the fact people can have their eye sight restored and have their eye sight restored and have sight, but if they had access to the surgery we had access to. Tell me about the treatment. 100 people, that £100, people will find it astonishing that it is only £100 and that is not available. Find it astonishing that it is only £100 and that is not availablem is not available anywhere. I went out with the charity to help raise awareness, so hopefully we can support people in other parts of the world that dont have the access we do. It is shocking. My grandson kept saying to me, my train break trainers cost more than that, my sisters mobile phone cost more than that, we can go out and spend more than that on three people and a meal in the evening but thats all it ta kes for in the evening but thats all it takes for our neighbour to have a quality of life that we do. I think one of the reasons im really keen in this week, glaucoma week, to talk about eye loss, eyesight loss or not great eyesight is because we can get our eyes tested regularly. We can go to the local high street and make sure we have. Keep on track. I think its important for us all to ta ke think its important for us all to take advantage of what we got here. Absolutely. Im really gratefulfor your time here. Really important work. Thanks for sharing the story. Thats all from breakfast for today. Dan and louise will be back tomorrow from 6. Until then, enjoy your weekend. 02 59 06,642 4294966103 13 29,430 goodbye
