Pound a month. They took it all away from me. On labours campaign, Jeremy Corbyn promises an extra £37 billion for the nhs and shorter Hospital Waiting Lists. Frances new president on his first full day in Office Visits germany to boost the relationship at the heart of the eu. And a sky dive at the age of 101 the d day veteran who says hes now planning something else. If im fit and well, and the doctor puts his signature on thshgs i might try a and do a bit of wing walking. That i would love to do. Its 5 oclock. The governments Emergency Committee cobra is meeting right now to discuss the cyber attack which Hit Nhs Trusts in england and scotland three days ago. 16 Hospital Trusts are still experiencing problems. Patients have been urged to turn up for appointments unless they hear otherwise. The head of the Technology Giant microsoft has said the attack should be treated as a wake up call. The governments been criticised for not being proactive enough in making sure the nhs is properly protected. One of the english trusts affected is in york, from where our correspondent danny savage reports. Is typical of many hospitals in england, a large number of computers are still unusable, leading to lots of pen and paper administration. But the message is turn up as planned. There is no screens, everythings getting written down. You cant make appointments, just hopefully they will send the appointments out. Did it slow things down . Not really. They were professional about it and did well. It must be a nightmare for them. I asked my gp, because i got referred from the surgery. What was their advice . Just to go as normal. No problems . No. As time goes on, more and more computers are up and running again. It feels like business as usual, although the staff would say otherwise. Once the situation unfolded, it was clear it was almost engulfing the organisation and we had 2,000 of our 6 thousand pcs out of action. That is quite disabling for services in a health care environment. In lincolnshire it is a different story. The United LincolnshireHospitals Trust said work is ongoing to restore it systems, but we are unable to go ahead with many appointments. Thats left patients like steve expecting results on canter still wondering about his diagnosis. Expecting results on canter still wondering about his diagnosism expecting results on canter still wondering about his diagnosis. It is because the nhs hasnt spent sufficient money on it. Safeguards. And that we are in the state that we are in. And the bottom line is, well, theres only one person going to suffer and thats the Tens Of Thousands like me. Mr hunt, did you know the it system was vun wrabl. Could the system have been better prepared, the Health Secretary refused to comment on the situation when approached today. But he has since spoken. What is being done . Although we have never seen anything on this scale, theyre relatively common and there are things you can do, that everyone can do to protect ourselves against them. In particular, making sure that our data is properly backed up and making sure we are using the softwa re making sure we are using the software patches, the Antivirus Patches that are sent out by manufacturers. These are things we can all do to reduce the risk of the impact we have seen. There are clearly wide variations between hospitals over just how clearly wide variations between hospitals overjust how badly they we re hospitals overjust how badly they were hit and how quickly they are recovering from the cyberattack. The fall out will be far reaching and uncomfortable for some. It is difficult to know why, but some of the theories is the trusts might have been using older equipment. The theories is the trusts might have been using older equipmentm has been a very stressful few days for staff and patients alike in the nhs. It has highlighted the Systems Dependency on computers and what needs to be done to prevent another melt down. The president of microsoft, brad smith, has been highly critical of the Us National Security agency, saying it should have notified them when it found Serious Software flaws in their systems. And in the uk, the National Crime agency is warning victims not to give in to Ransom Demands as theres no guarantee theyll regain access to their files. Our correspondent wyre davies has more details. Experts say this cyber attack was unprecedented in the way it was able to affect vulnerable Computer Systems, but also how it spread across the globe, hitting major public bodies like the nhs, but also individual users and several large multinational companies. The attack was thwarted with what has been described as a Master Killswitch before it could spread further, but companies that specialise in Cyber Security say further incidents are almost inevitable. I would say phase one is over, but i would wager there are more phases to come, both in terms of this attack, making sure companies are not vulnerable to this kind of malware, but also secondary attacks that may be using variants of this. People need to be acutely aware of that possibility. With hundreds of thousands of victims in more than 150 countries, microsoft, which makes the Operating Systems that were targeted, says governments should treat the attack as a wake up call. It criticised bodies such as the cia and Us National Security agency for developing and stockpiling software that could be exploited by hackers. Microsofts president and chief legal officer brad smith said. This is an area that involves both government and the private sector, and there are a number of programmes where they need to work together. Some of those are National Critical infrastructure. As we look at everything from Financial Markets to travel, transportation, and the grid itself. Those affected by the hack were faced with an on screen demand for payment of 300 about £230 in the Virtual Currency bitcoin. In a tweet, the National Crime agency warned victims not to pay any ransom, saying the recovery of files could not be guaranteed, although there is evidence that some targeted individuals are indeed paying up. The most important thing to say is, as of 10 30am, action fraud, Who Collate Crimes in this area, have had no new reports in relation to this strain. It is important that the public understand that. The attack, described as the biggest of its kind, has exposed the inherent weakness of an interconnected world, increasingly reliant on Computer Systems that are not properly protected or updated. The digital equivalent of a globalflu epidemic, but much more sinister, and potentially much more expensive. And wyrejoins me now from outside that cobra meeting in whitehall. Just bring us up to date on who is there and what is your understanding of what this meeting is going to do . We understand the cobra meeting of the Emergency Committee is still going on under the leadership of the Home Secretary and jeremy hunt is at the meeting. The government is keen to give the impression it is on top of this and doing something to tackle what is and what was an unprecedented attack. The one good piece of news is the much anticipated second big attack that people had suggested might happen today has not yet happened. Happened yet. Some 16 trusts are still fighting what happened last week. At such a sensitive time for the government with a General Election around the corner, the government has been accused by opponents in the labour party and the Liberal Democrats of being caught almost with its trousers down and not being prepared for the attack. The Prime Minister hit back, saying that those warnings were sent out to various Health Trusts, peeling them about the telling them about the necessary updates to their computers. The but the reality is many of the Health Trusts and boards in england still operate very old Computer Systems. You will note that in wales there wasnt a single successful breach of the nhs trusts in wales, because according to the Welsh Government all their Computer SystemsWelsh Government all their computer syste ms ha d Welsh Government all their Computer Systems had recently been upgraded with the relevant software. So there is an answer for the uk government, why werent those patches in place to prevent touch an attack in england . Thank you. Any more from the cobra meeting and we will be back to you. With me is our Technology Reporter chris fox, who has been looking at the developments. Talk to us about today and peoples expectation of another big spike, diwi does not which does not seem to have happened . There were big headlines promising ran somme ware. The original thing was diverted by accident. That didnt get peoples files backed, but stopped the version doing any more damage and It Administrators all weekend have spent the weekend patching their systems to make sure when people come into work on monday there is no more consequences from there is no more consequences from the ran some ware. Now who may have been responsible. A lot of theories are around and then this intervention by microsoft that i mentioned, so first of all, blame . Very difficult to say, but the researchers who i have spoken to say the code for the original version of this was amateurish and the frabgt fa ct this was amateurish and the frabgt fact it was disabled easily means it could have been an individual. But the police are investigating, the fbi and the uk crime agency are on it. In the past we have had examples where criminals have been caught. So we may see some developments, fingers crossed we find out. In term of what microsoft said, brad smith said this has affected customers around the world, implying that the nsa was to blame. It should have stored the vulnerability more securely. If you want spy agencies to spy on people, theyre supposed to spy on people, theyre supposed to do, they need these hacks to be able to do it. If you want them to be able to spy and some people dont think they should, but if you want them to, theyre going to need these tools. The final point is people at home who understandably will have concerns about their systems, what is your advice . Luckily it seeps weep seems peoples Wi Fi Routers filtered it out. The best thing is install your security updates. Sometimes they pop up, get them installed and make sure the system is up to date and keep a back date of sensitive data, anything you dont want to lose on an external ha rd dont want to lose on an external hard drive. Back it up, unplug it and keep it way from them. And be on the look out for follow up attacks. Cybercriminals use thing like this to send follow up e mails and you may get an e mail saying you have heard about this attack, you need to click on this link. It is unlikely any company would send an e mail like that. Be on the watch for scams. Thank you. On the Campaign Trail in oxfordshire, theresa may has been confronted by a woman who told her benefit cuts had left her with £100 a month to live on. Cathy mohan from abingdon said she could not live on her reduced personal independence payment, saying she wanted her Disability Living Allowance back. Earlier, mrs may was promised to boost Workers Rights if the conservatives won the election. Our political correspondent, leila nathoo, is in westminster now. Tilse more about this confrontation. Theresa may was in oxford and she was trying to deflect some criticism she has faced for not having enough interaction with ordinary voters. She has faced accusations that she has been protected from the public only addressing conservative supporters and invited audiences. Today she was out on the Campaign Trail ina today she was out on the Campaign Trail in a local market with the local conservative candidate when she was confronted by a woman called cathy, who challenged her over conservative changes to benefits, which she said has left her worse off. She was referring to personal independence payments that replaced the disability yablt lif Disability Living Allowance. The women women was to he deuce the welfare bill. We have done a lot to help. Im talking four everybody with learning disabilities, i want them not to have their money taken away from them and being crippled. We are going to do a number. The fat cats keep the money. We are going to do a number of things. You know what i want . Iwant number of things. You know what i want . I want my. Number of things. You know what i want . Iwant my. Disability number of things. You know what i want . I want my. Disability living allowa nce want . I want my. Disability living allowance to come back. Not have pips and have nothing. I cant live ona pips and have nothing. I cant live on a hundred pounds a month. You cant to it. Debbie is not my carer. I she is going to help you. She might not. She has a lot of things. Im sure we will find a way. Kwha youre talking about for your case. For everybody. Not just for me. Youre talking about for your case. For everybody. Notjust for me. Im sticking up for them, because i go toa sticking up for them, because i go to a club for disabled people. Nicola can help you, what i can do is ensure we are giving help to people with Mental Health problems. And learning difficulties, people in wheelchairs and everybody. That is what we want to ensure when we look at the help given to people with disability, we focus on those most in need. I am, disability, we focus on those most in need. Iam, i dont disability, we focus on those most in need. I am, i dont get nothing. You had better help me, please. The subject of Disability Allowance came up subject of Disability Allowance came up in subject of Disability Allowance came upina subject of Disability Allowance came up in a Facebook Live that theresa may did with itv and she repeated the line she was trying to help those most in need, but she recognised there had been issues with the assessment. But what theresa may was talk about was Workers Rights and she in a bid to try and capture Labour Voters that she thinks have been neglected by the party. My colleague has been looking at what has been announced. Up looking at what has been announced. Up the workers, not phrases you would expect from theresa may. But just listen to this. What we are doing today is announcing the biggest ever enhancement of workers right base conservative government. She chose to announce this at a company that helps women get back into work and set out some of the detail. We are committing the National Living wage will continue to rise, yes, that people will be able to request time off to care for able to request time off to care for a relative and we want to support and encourage returnships. I have have been to a fantastic organisation helping women who have been taken time out of work looking after children to get the skills to get back into work. So employees would be able to take time off to look after relative, but it will be unpaid and she would introduce a right for bereaved parents to take leave and protect the rights workers enjoy as part of the eu. Theresa may is also signalling she will help people who are not in secure employment. But specific proposals will have to wait for the review. Some Small Businesses th say theyre worried about regulations. A bigger business with an Hr Department may be able to absorb somebody going off for a year. For a smaller business that may only employ three or four people, that is a significant chunk of the workforce. There is notjust the cost of that, but they may specialised and it may bl difficult to replace them. Theresa may is making a land grab forformer Labour Voters who have gone to ukip. Getting the criticism from business may not be a bad thing. But she is rebranding the party, no longer lead by an old etonian, she is claiming it can address the concerns of people across the country. Labours ma nifesto people across the country. Labours manifesto will have a 20 point plan for Workers Rights. Some trade union are arguing that theresa mays record suggests she cant be trusted. Lets judge her record suggests she cant be trusted. Letsjudge her on her record, zero hours contracts and the trade union act, the most anti workering legislation of last century. Leopards dont change their spots. She might need that, because while she can expect criticism from the unions, some of her own mps are worried she is shifting too far in labours direction. So the serves going after conservatives going after Labour Voters. A couple of the announcements like protecting Workers Rights after brexit and guaranteeing safeguards for those in the gig economy, shows the conservative trying to Neutralise Labour and the confidence theresa may has to grab hold of the labour policy areas. Thank you. We are going to stay with the campaign, because Jeremy Corbyn going to stay with the campaign, becauseJeremy Corbyn has been telling nurses of labours plans to inject more money into the Health Service. The labour leader was speaking at the Royal College of nursing conference in liverpool, where he accused the conservatives of driving the Nhs In England into crisis, as our assistant Political Editor norman smith reports. Under pressure with waiting targets slipping and a e struggling, Jeremy Corbyn said the nhs is in crisis. It Isafamiliar Corbyn said the nhs is in crisis. It is a familiar Labour Warning come election team. But team corbyn think it isa election team. But team corbyn think it is a big vote winner for them. Election team. But team corbyn think it is a big vote winnerfor them. A warm welcome forJeremy Corbyn from the nurses union and no wonder, with labour promising an extra £37 billion, money to take a million patients off waiting lists. Our Health Service is being dismantled by stealth. Over the past seven yea rs, by stealth. Over the past seven years, our national Health Service has been driven into crisis after crisis. A e departments struggling to cope. Waiting lists soaring and we saw last week the tory cuts have exposed Patient Services to cyberattack. Labour are also to set more targets for hospitals. A e departments will have to see most serious cases within an hour. Cancer patients will have to be seen within four weeks. And labour will reintroduce a strict 18 week limit for waiting times. But are nurses confident labour can deliver . He has made some important commitments that we have been waiting for a long time to hear. He has promised to legislate on Safe Staffing and dedicate a minister to Mental Health and these are all important pledges that we look forward to seeing if he becomes Prime Minister. L that we look forward to seeing if he becomes Prime Minister. A lot can be done. I would like to see what the report says tomorrow, the manifesto. And then i will make a decision. The lickeds unveiled plan Liberal Democrats unveiled plans to end the pay cap on nhs staff. If You Undervalue nurses and midwives and professionals of any kind, dont be surprised if they leave the profession and find themselves as we discovered a few weeks ago, members of Nursing Profession accessing food banks and a Prime Minister who thinks that is not an issue. It feeds into a narrative of the conservative government treating nurses like dirt. Despite the extra cash on offer, there is still massive pressure on the nhs and that wont end whoever wins the election. With the governments own Spending Watchdog warning the Health Service faces a £56 billion black hole by 2020. Our assistant Political Editor norman smith is in liverpool. First, the pledges on the nhs. Huge Shopping List of promises from Jeremy Corbyn, which delighted the nurses, not just that vast chunk of extra cash, £37 billion, but a promise of more pay, more staff, better it and modern buildings, an end to a e closure and a return of nurses bursaries. A huge package that went down well here. But you sense fromjeremy that went down well here. But you sense from Jeremy Corbyns perspective, it was an attempt to grab the attention of voters from theissues grab the attention of voters from the issues that have dominated namely brexit, theresa may and bring it on to more favourable terrain for labour to try and make this as far as possible an election where one of the key issues at stake is the nhs. Jeremy corbyns view, which he expressed very bluntly here was if theresa may is successful, then the nhs will be unrecognisable in five yea rs nhs will be unrecognisable in five years time. He suggested it will be underfund, demoralised and that it will be, his phrase, broken up and plundered by the private sector. So Tea M Plundered by the private sector. So team corbyn trying to make this as far as possible an election about the nhs obviously an issue which favours labour, much more. One of the nurse in your report mentioned the nurse in your report mentioned the manifesto and she wanted to see the manifesto and she wanted to see the figures, talk us about the expectation of the manifesto. There will be a vast number of pledges in that manifesto, we have seen many of them in the leaked draft. What we havent seen is the numbers. And we know, because jeremy havent seen is the numbers. And we know, becauseJeremy Corbyn and Jovn Mcdonnell have said, everything will be costed, fully funded, set out in the manifesto. Tomorrow, is d day when it comes to money. And a lot of extra spending has been promised by labour, not just the extra spending has been promised by labour, notjust the £37 billion promised today, they want to scrap tuition fees and that is a cool £ii billion and have extra £8 billion for social care and end the Public Sector pay cap and are talking about sticking with the triple lock on pensions and ending the increase in the pension retirement age, reversing benefit cuts and extending personal independence payments. You are talking a b a huge amount of extra spending. It seems to me youre getting close to £80 billion of spending which by my take must be the most expensive manifesto of modern times and crucial will be who is going to actually pay for this. Tea m is going to actually pay for this. Team corbyn suggest it is the city, it is the business, it is the top 5 of the population in terms of wealth. But you know, we will have to go through the figures with a fine tooth comb, because there is a lot of money that will have to be raised to pay for that. Thank you for the latest there. Norman smith at that conference in liverpool today. The First Minister of scotla nd today. The First Minister of scotland has said that a vote for the snp would strengthen scotlands hand over brecht. The Scottish Government wants scotland to remain in the eu and in particular the european single market. Well, if people vote snp in this election, it gives me a mandate to demand that scotland is represented in the uk negotiating team, that our interests are central to these negotiations. That matters because jobs, Living Standards and investment will be affected by the outcome of these brexit negotiations, and weve seen, before these elections, theresa may dismiss out of hand sensible, compromised proposals that the Scottish Government put forward to protect our place in the single market. But this election gives people the opportunity to give these proposals democratic legitimacy. And you can find out more about todays election pledges and the latest on the campaign on our website thats bbc. Co. Uk news. And tonight on the news channel we will have a round up of the Days Campaign news in the Election Wrap at 7. 30pm the headlines in a moment and the latest on the sport. And nick has the weather. Rain, it is a while since it has been a feature of the weather. Most places have seen rain today and there is more to come. Some heavier bursts in Southern Scotla nd some heavier bursts in Southern Scotland and north west eck. England. Plenty of cloud in the the south west. That means fog on the hills and the temperatures are not going down, it is a mild and muggy night. So feeling different in the morning. A dry start in scotland and Northern Ireland and some rain, behind that expect the sun to come out and it will feel fresher. The rain will slip south east through england and wales. East anglia and South East England staying dry, with some sunshine. Warmest at 22 celsius. Tomorrow and Northern Ireland starting off cool on wednesday. Sunshine and some showers. But some heavy rain in england and wales, Thundery Rain in places too. This is bbc news at five. The headlines the cabinets Emergency Committee is meeting over the global cyber attack which affected the nhs. Routine surgery and gp appointments have been cancelled in some areas. On the Campaign Trail as theresa may promises more Workers Rights, a voter confronts her about cuts in welfare benefits. On labours campaign Jeremy Corbyn promises shorter Hospital Waiting Lists and an extra 37 billion pounds for the nhs if it wins power. Our nhs staff have had a 14 per cent cut in their salaries in the past seven years so we would lift the pay cap and restore the ability of the unions to negotaite proper pay agreements in the nhs. Frances new president on his first full day in Office Visits germany to boost the relationship at the heart of the eu as he meets with chancellor Angela Merkel. Sport now, heres reshmin choudhary. Thank you very much. David moyes insists his reputation isnt in tatters despite sunderlands relegation from the Premier League. But he has claimed that some of his players havent pulled their weight this season. Sunderland went down with four games still remaining and have now beenjoined by middlesbrough as well as hull. Moyes is intending to stay on at the stadium of light. Sunderland have their penultimate match at arsenal tomorrow night. I think the players have to stand up, they need to show are they capable of playing at this level for most of the season youd have to say its not showing that way. But theyve got a chance, a chance against two really good teams, a chance to show they see themselves as Premier League players, to be at that level. I think many of them believe they have futures elsewhere. I think you need to perform on the pitch to do that. So sunderland travel to the emirates tomorrow night, with Arsene Wenger asking fans to attend the match rather than take part in a planned boycott aimed at removing him as manager. He still hasnt announced what his future holds. Arsenal to win their final two matches of the season to have any chance of qualifying for the Champions League as they have done every year wenger has been in charge. Liverpool could also deny them with a victory in theirfinal game. But the frenchman believes form is on arsenals side. We won six of the last seven games and we have created the momentum again after having a period where we were away from home and not strong. Now we have won the last three away games, it is positive. Greg clarke has said he hasnt been able to speak with any gay footballers, as they seem reticent to talk to him. Clarke says despite nine months of going round and seeing people from athletics, from cricket, from rugby and many other sports, ive yet to meet one professional footballer who felt comfortable enough to put down a private meeting at a venue and time of their choosing. I said, i will come to you, i will travel, i will meet anyone. Maria sharapova has guaranteed a place in the qualifying competition for wimbledon after winning herfirst round match at the italian open. A straight sets win over Christine Mchale means shell have enough ranking points to attempt to qualify for this years tournament at the all england club. And if she reaches the semi finals in rome the five time grand slam champion whos returning from a 15 month doping ban will have a chance to qualify for the wimbledon main draw. Kyle edmund is currently serving for the set in his match. Close to match point. It hasnt come just yet. British mens number three aljaz bedene has set up a second round meeting with Novak Djokovic at the italian open. He received a walkover from his match against Gianluca Mager after the italian was forced to retire injured. World number one andy murray will be hoping for a return to form as he defends his italian open title in rome this week. He turns 30 today but says he is not massively into birthdays. Murray comes into the tournament on the back of a third round loss to world number 59 borna coric of Croatia In Madrid last week. He beat Novak Djokovic in the 2016 italian open final and will face local favourite Fabio Fognini in the second round this year. Its tough to necessarily analyse losses in a couple of days when youre also looking to the next tournament but thats also sometimes a positive thing that you have another event to look forward to it immediately, you get a chance to play better, only 4 5 days after a tough match. Just to confirm in the last few moments kyle edmund did win his match in the opening round of the italian open. Thats all sport for now. You can keep up to date with all those stories on the bbc sport website. Ill have more in sportsday at half past six. More now on the global cyber attack that has hit the nhs. The government has confirmed that there has been no fresh wave of Cyber Attacks on the nhs. 16 Hospital Trusts in england are still experiencing problems. Nhs wales has said none of its Computer Systems have been impacted and Health Organisations across scotland are largely up and running. Lets talk to our correspondent, ben ando, who is at the Lister Hospital In Stevenage one of the first to be hit by the cyber attack on friday. Whats the latest there . This is a big District Hospital around 730 beds. It is operated by the North Hertfordshire nhs trust and it is one of the sites that they had it to varying degrees. Today they have been slowly and steadily recovering getting off line system is back online. It is a big job. They have around 5000 computers and each of these need to have the patch installed to defeat this virus, this cyber attack. They need to be brought online and checked. Its a long job. They have had very little in the way of pathology and radiology but those departments are now up and running. They have very few tests for diabetes and are still unable to carry out nonurgent tests. A lot has been said about how prepared people are about the technology. We have had a statement from microsoft. What are the next steps . From microsoft. What are the next steps . People will want some type of assurance that nhs managers and the government are in a position to try to prevent this happening again. The patients that we have been speaking to, many of whom have arrived for appointments that were cancelled because the hospital wasnt able to contact them even though it was trying to contact everybody, they are saying they had a wasted journey. Some people hadnt heard about the cyber attack and only came in to find out the news. Thats what people want to hear, how effectively and cost effectively that can be delivered. Many thanks for keeping as up to date. The newly installed president of france Emmanuel Macron has nominated the centre right politician Edouard Philippe for Prime Minister. Mr philippe whos 46 and mayor of the Northwestern Port City Of le havre is not from the president s new party en marche. Hes from the traditional centre right republicans. Earlier, he met the now former Prime MinisterBernard Cazeneuve at the Matignon Palace in paris during an official handover ceremony. And lets cross now to our correspondentjenny hill, whose in berlin, where president macron has just arrived for his first foreign visit as president to meet chancellor merkel. Jenny, whats been going on . L jenny, whats been going on . A very warm reception. You certainly get a sense that this relationship is going to be a friendly one. They have met before, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron. But this is the first time in his new official new role. There is delight here that it is not Marine Le Pen who is walking up is not Marine Le Pen who is walking up the red carpet. It is a very important relationship. Angela merkel has worked with his predecessor on all sorts of issues, significantly the conflict in ukraine. She will be wanting to talk about all sorts of global issues. Most importantly, in this relationship, here in berlin, there isa relationship, here in berlin, there is a sense that this is about the future of the eu, particularly that britain has decided to leave. The french german relationship is very significant, it is at the heart of the european project. There is a lot talk about. Mr macron has floated a lot of ideas about the future of the eurozone. Those ideas have split opinion here in berlin. Some are rather alarmed by them and some serial merit in them. It is an Election Year so mrs merkel will be very careful about their reception. This is a very significant meeting because these leaders can go on to shape the real future of the eu when britain has left. Very interesting to see the very warm and very friendly body language. We are seeing evidence of that. Just looking at this for more welcome, short while ago, tell us about the one focus that lots of people in the uk are thinking about. What does this arrival today, this presidency in france, the axis with germany, what does this new axis mean for the brexit negotiations coming up . What weve been seeing all along and what weve been seeing all along and what we can expect to continue, particularly if they forge a strong relationship, is that the eee wants to ta ke relationship, is that the eee wants to take a really unified approach. The sense i get from talking to people behind the scenes is that there was consternation behind the scenes that britain wanted to Divide And Rule by striking individual deals. That is something that the eu does not want. You will have seen from Press Conferences of late that they are all very much on the same page when it comes to dealing with britain. Generally, it is expected that germany would take a more moderate approach to france who may ta ke moderate approach to france who may take a more punitive approach. The focus here in berlin is less on how britain is going to exit, as to what the future of the eu is going to be. There was real panic when britain made that decision to leave. That might signal the end of the eu. That is something Angela Merkel is passionately committed to avoiding. I mentioned some of those Economic Reforms that mr macron is talking about. Dont be fooled by the warm body language. Conservative members of Angela Merkels cabinet want to see friends sort out its economy and Labour Market and get its economy back to. They are intrigued by mr macrons ideas about the eurozone. There is an alarm about some of those ideas like issuing eurobonds. In the Election Year, Angela Merkel is not going to support that idea because she is worried that a nervous electorate might see that as german money going off to payoff french debt. What the two leaders share is the commitment to the teu and its survival once britain has gone. Thank you very much for your thoughts there. Jenny hill in berlin. In a few minutes, we are going to expect Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron to appear in their first joint news Emmanuel Macron to appear in their firstjoint News Conference. Lets not forget, it is the first full day in office for mr macron who was formally installed yesterday and he has wasted no time in making his way to berlin to emphasise the importance he attaches to the axis with germany right at the heart of the European Union and what is likely to be quite a turbulent few yea rs likely to be quite a turbulent few years ahead. That News Conference coming up in a short while and it will be interesting to see what stamp they put on the proceedings today. The time is 5 45pm. Essex police have spent the morning searching a block of garages in thurrock for the body of a schoolgirl who went missing 16 years ago. Danielle jones was 15 when she was abducted and murdered by her uncle. Detectives were told about the garages at the time but only decided to search them after a new tip off earlier this year. Our correspondent nick beake reports. When daniellejones disappeared in 2001, it led to a huge police investigation, and a desperate appeal from the family. For gods say, come forward. I am so desperate to get her back. But the teenager was never seen again. A year later, her uncle, stuart campbell, was jailed for her abduction and murder, even though danielles body was never found. Today, though, the search continued in this quiet street in thurrock. Specialist teams began looking inside some garages. Essex police say they are acting on what they call new and credible information. But it has not come from stuart campbell. For 16 years, he has refused to tell detectives what happened to his niece, and he has refused to say where her body is. Essex police have revealed they did receive a tip off about this location when danielle first went missing, although it was not one of the 1000 garages they searched. The officer now leading the operation has not yet worked out why. Throughout the general Election Campaign were going to be taking an in depth look at some of the essential topics and hearing from our specialist editors. Today, were focusing on the economy. Our economics editor kamal ahmed has been assessing what the main issues are. It was james carville, bill clintons election adviser, who, when asked what won elections, had a Pretty Simple answer its the economy, stupid, he said. And thats probably still true today. I think for voters, there are big issues around Living Standards, and that income squeeze, which have pretty much been with us since 2008 and the financial crisis. The problem for politicians is that issues like that are not easy to solve there are no easy headlines. The Political Parties may trade promises on taxes, on pensions, on energy price caps, on making an economy which works for all, and notjust for the privileged few. Yes, those are important issues, but there is a big issue of substance which underlines all of them, and thats, how do we create economic wealth . How do we make sure that work is rewarding . They dont sound that sexy productivity, Economic Growth but they are absolutely vital to the future of the country, now, just like in every other General Election. Kamal mentioned the Living Standards squeeze for people who, despite being in work, are not feeling any better off. Our personal finance correspondent Simon Gompertz has been to meet a family in kent to find out how they are coping. One family at breakfast, near london in kent, middle income yet struggling. Food prices, energy, the house, getting to work, and childcare. For mum kathryn, this is financial survival in britain today. So, how tricky is it, making ends meet, how much do you have leftover . We have nothing left over. Nothing. After food and bills and our mortgage, we dont have really anything left over. The average wage of a Single Person is £26,500. This family brings in 45,000, but thats two earners one full time, and kathryn a Fitness Instructor part time. It means second hand clothes and toys, selling old things on ebay like so many households, looking after the pennies. If you look at your incomes, people around the country will say, well, youre lucky . Yeah. I think it depends where you live, though, doesnt it . On paper, we should be absolutely fine, but then once you start listing all the things you have to pay for, all the bills, all the expenses, its just. Endless. First, there was the squeezed middle, then alarm clock britain, now, those just about managing. However you describe it, its people who are doing the right thing, but their income just isnt quite enough. These are kathryns big bills. £660 a month for the mortgage in expensive kent, £580 for the car and train fares, nearly £200 for child care. Can you come and put your coat on, please . Leaving zero for holidays, and a feeling that things arent about to change. Good girl. Theres an election coming do you think anything will actually change with that . Im sceptical. It would be lovely if it did, but i think were always going to fall into the forgotten category of people that are not struggling too much, they can make ends meet, but they have no extra money. Nothing special here, just another family getting on with it but its an uphill struggle. Simon gompertz, bbc news, in kent.
