Chief negotiator Michel Barnier says a new dynamic has been created in the brakes in negotiations following to resume a speech in Florence last week he said progress has been made on the financial settlement and citizens' rights but more work was needed and of course a key aspect of the breaks in negotiations will be travel and trade ports handle 95 percent of the U.K.'s trade in goods Spode imports and exports and of course each port is different so you will be looking at how 2 of Britain's busiest ports will be affected by brick sit in in a moment you'll hear from the B.B.C.'s Katie Austen in Hull but 1st the B.B.C.'s Alastair 50 reports from Southampton. The port of. Around. Can go each year and sports $15000.00 jobs the vast majority of business that's goods coming in and to going out is trade with countries outside of the e.u. That gives companies based in a unique perspective on bricks and. Joining me on the key is the closest c.e.o. Of b.p. World south how to make it fair to say that whatever happens with the ports here feels more shelter but. It does Allister you're quite right our trade here is is predominantly and when I say predominantly in 9899 percent with the rest of the world say we're not dealing with interesting new trains here we're dealing with ships coming deep sea from the Far East the Americas so we are sheltered from those and but expansion elsewhere at the port tells a different story that's more valuable to blacks it surely than your the managing director here at imports says no you can't make a an import tax set by the e.u. I want to post. That the check I'd like them to leave everything as it is friction is borders on the same type of systems and free movement of goods I just can't see how you could end up in a system would work if every single thing that was sent out of here had to be imported again into France like elsewhere there are unanswered questions about the potential for disruption and delays but Southampton's focus on exports and its relationships outside of the e.u. Means that for now this port enjoys more certainty than most. I'm Katy Austin and I'm at the port of Hull Terry's transport up to 800 noise and containers to and from docks down and Zeebrugge every day I've been talking to near him proud a logistics company based down the a 63 a has a and we saw one of their trucks carrying materials eventually down to Barcelona checking in the reversing stay. Right on to the ferry no routine customs inspections no time lost at either end call in Moody the managing director of near Brown wants to avoid extra customs checks when we leave the e.u. Ocus in the skirts need to be delivered on child in full so if there is an idealist then it's going to affect those both on our imports and exports there would be additional cost to us and we would have to pass those on to our customers because Colin says his company's experience importing and exporting outside of the e.u. Makes an optimistic trade will still flow freely was sold on shipments to Switzerland the information sent electronically so if we have questions Traders in Europe and in the u.k. And I'm sure a lots of the entries will be done on the technology side the government will now be hoping it can negotiate a future where goods continue to move without friction through the port of call as the B.B.C.'s Katie Austen reporting you can find out more about how trade and travel might be affected by brick sit on the b.b.c. News website. It's. Not. Travel. She has met Frank the road to all the double roundabouts and. Continuing to look heavy there's there's the afternoon the main road in Cannington still struggling to in the cones east and west for the a 3939 looking heavy enough to Wells on the Glastonbury road once again road works to blame for that heading in towards Bridgwater then stop starts in patches on the Bristol Road struggling. Around the cross rifles rather Boston John Street on the Broadway also looking heavy going as well or just to the north of Toronto on the Greenway road the 358 really have you know east and west bound those road works just around the time we junction or Bridgewater road causing a lot of congestion on the inbound side and the street looking busy too in the cones in the temporary lights from time to time you over them the show bone road junction with allied road also struggling once again in the road works and still heavy going all approaches for the Lysander road roundabout m 5 though looking good still north and south on the life highways England cameras and public transport continues to run the time as ever updates always welcome if you spot anything we haven't please do give us a ring if it's safe and legal All 3453 or 41566. Travel you can trust on b.b.c. Somerset. So time for the sport only one place to start with Jack merely cricket always consult the darts but if you. Know you did start with cricket you will because we are cyber leave Somerset's fans big win for them today they've retained as we know their place in Division One of the county championship wrapped up a 231 run win over Middlesex on the final day of the season in Taunton it means they will remain in the top flight next season Somerset bowled Middlesex out for 113 in their 2nd innings with Jack Leach finishing with bowling figures of folly for 5 in a moment the thoughts of Captain Tom Abel but 1st the wickets that won the match each to 15 I did go on and I'd say it's 7 said of one and in so doing have completed the Great Escape They've won 3 out of their last 4 county championship matches they will go up above Middlesex in the table their future in Division One is secure in our kind of asked for anything more as a captain you know it's been throughout the season skills at the start of season and obviously that person the position where we are in. The best of my cricketing career and you know just ups it's a lot for everyone concerned to be honest for me. Well outgoing director of cricket match may not has been talking for the 1st time since his departure was announced it was late yesterday evening we broke it to you on the show with Matt may not last act in charge of course was to see Somerset secure a safety they're now set to announce a new director of cricket and head coach as well in the coming days may not amidst a shakeup made it impossible for him to remain very difficult. To stay really because if the new director of cricket and I don't see eye to eye that's going to cause friction and the most important people at the club or the players in the dressing room and you know the backroom stuff you've got to work together work together smooth as possible so I think it's been very amicable The club have been really excellent I'm disappointed but you know I know I'm going to be welcomed back and got some good friends who have plenty more reaction from the County Ground to come after 5 o'clock Jack Leach and some of the Somerset fans on this show in the next 15 minutes will stick with cricket now England have said Ben Stokes and Alex Hales will not be considered for selection in till further notice each remain on full pay pending further research and the ongoing police investigation into an incident in Bristol in the early hours of Monday morning and football Bristol Rovers will be depleted for next week's trip to North Hampton town because of international call ups it's good news bad news for Rovers I suppose the good news is that Tom Lucky has been called into the Whale School for internationals with Island Ryan Sweeney will be an island under $21.00 Judy the bad news of course it means they're missing games for their club manager Daryl Clarke says yep it's been a sweet place it's under me no favors as it's a center all is missing. Like I'm a Republican. In the lots where we listen we know the rules before the players to step into that spot from a joke and Assad is a product of the still Rovers players to be players to be represented in the country so I'm delighted for the place totems Delhi alley has been named in the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Levy. This despite the threat of a fee for by an alley of course was called Making we'll call it a rude gesture in England's last match but he keeps his place in rugby recalled by a back row Francoise for South Africa in their Rugby Championship match against Australia on Saturday was overlooked for the Springboks 1st 4 games in the competition before winning his place back and we'll end with a little bit of golf baths Laurie canter one after 17 holes after the 1st round of the British masters at breakfast every weekday morning from 6 to see for the stories that matter. A roof backlash because they know that there is an issue with that it's about Mother wouldn't talk. To cope with this increase criteria in place that when. I think we can cope I'll bring you everything you need to get your morning going AWOL celebrate what it is. About your can say well done genotyping get him back. Oh I do what you just said take it you also. Go into no going back some more morning. So you win again. Headlines travel weather coming up and then reaction to Somerset staying in cricket's Division One the defeat of Middlesex today I was at the ground we got some atmosphere some fans Jack Leach and outgoing director cricket. You'll hear from all of them in the next 10 minutes here on b.b.c. Somerset and in the next. Has been speaking to points west. So you'll hear from the prime minister on the program as well now 1st of all I think. You know gets all the best job sees allowed to drive for all around the county for clues of course yesterday he was sent to Bridgewater to find out how preparations for this year's fair are going the event dates back to the 13th century of course we're wondering what people can expect this year well and he's been talking to the showman. Mathewson on the bridge will pass. It Back. Now to tell me I sent you I tracked your cue ball you know say can we try to find some white boy you know we're going to happen if you really don't know very many places here at the fair to tell you what you 2 here are running right to right and all around the carousel I'm so proud very different Yeah yeah that's right the route to 6 May move out the people have a bead on one Ok so the rotors around Barrow and you walk inside and as you walk inside I'm ready to start a broad We close the door to the floor right uses up and. We start the spinning and it spins a bell 30 miles an hour then we lower the floor and you stay stuck to the wall while it's spinning around people not before that scary stuff well it is scary to some paper but you know it's the fruit asked what it is what's more popular are your 2 rights been good this month and. Such as it was if P.-Six just started to write Oh it. Was back to them the false wall it's all the traditional commerce I would guess but the people like it if fairies you know which crowd to get sort of Carousel works better when you've got families and children the right size is better pull when you've got a night it's a cycle I haven't been to retool for every day for a long long time to get different. It's not what he would let's talk more the 1st day there would be a different audience here now than there May's say tonight and then the following night sometime today instead I will be very much a side but Friday night we get multi nice shoes and so on. So backwards it will not get us what do you what we know each other so why do you see the same mullets in the same place the different faces he said like how I can imagine a fat one travels around the country all together we all know each of us how we are we a community of our own but we don't travel around all together all the time so I go to different phases where I may out with different people and so on so from bridge will you get some people don't you know. But I go to church it's the slow fare what you come to which will trip we have to say look up this is an important part of going to is for us we all been coming to preach will announce the 40 year we really had 1977 was a 1st year what time you were more carrots great stopped I'll be back soon suggests you'll come around here no longer south London and become a difficulty is all but you see some changes Oh yes yes yes. The right is still the sign won't stay for 4 years is it really that it's a certain it's a class a thing I was developed probably about a year ago and I saw a lot died out of it and then I buy the come back and I have stayed ever since do you get jobs to go around other boys who always the last thing you want to go with all the boys would you be what do they own them when I was younger and you know one of the kids we used to go a bell a no go on the saw broads but not now there you go Oh doing about now when I was what I said when I was younger I'm going to meet you think it. Still might be a bit loud for me the most sure the crowd right owner told me Matthews there speaking to Andy Bennett at this year's Bridgewater fair running through until Saturday afternoon. You can see in your. B.b.c. News. It's 5 o'clock the latest b.b.c. News which it's Somerset have beaten Middlesex to avoid relegation to Division 2 of cricket's County Championship Somerset had to win the match in Taunton to stay up in the end they did so comfortably by 231 runs they'll go into next season without director of cricket and head coach Matt Maynard the club announced last night it would be dividing those 2 roles and he would leave he says he's sad to be going something's come to an end you know and you kind of have to move on there's obviously a change of structure at the club with a new c.e.o. Coming in and having the cricket review and feels that it needs to be the way and when that happens a coach it or head coach director of cricket is split in the roles very difficult today really because if the new director of cricket and I don't see it too I that's going to cause friction. The England cricketer Ben Stokes will not be considered for selection for international cricket until further notice the England and Wales Cricket Board took the decision after viewing footage of published on the Sun's website which appeared to show him fighting outside a nightclub in Bristol. The police have confirmed they received a report of a man pointing a gun at another motorist on the m 5 before a driver was shot by police on the a 369 near Portishead yesterday the West Mercia Force said it received a call from a member of the public at around 8 30 in the morning an hour later a man died after officers from even in Somerset police opened fire on a vehicle Here's our Home Affairs Correspondent Charlotte Cullum it becomes clearer now we know that the car has maybe come all the way down from Junction 8 on the motorway and has driven for nearly an hour there must be some people out there they say who have dash cam footage from little cameras that people have in their cars that car driving down there appealing for all that detail and information to be passed to them but as I said it's not normal for a road to remain closed perhaps for this long but they'll have been wanting to conduct this investigation you know in the most proper way they possibly could and they won't have wanted to miss any single detail from there so when I was there at lunchtime they were only just removing the red car this is a key car with the bullet holes in it the port bring 100 has reopened this evening following an examination of the scene by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. The breakfast Secretary David Davis has said that decisive steps forward have been taken during the latest round of negotiations with the European Union however his e.u. Counterpart Michel Barnier warned that it could be weeks or months before they could agree to move to the next stage of the talks on a future trading relationship. Ryanair has promised to cooperate with the civil aviation or Thora t. After the regulator accused it of breaching consumer protection laws by not informing passengers of their rights when it canceled thousands of flights the CIA's chief executive said he was furious with the airline and was considering taking it to court. And councillors have agreed to close South Somerset district councils community office in lang port a decision will be made on the future of the elements to office in November the 2 offices were identified as not being well used in a review by the council. Time for the weather now then John Hammond has the latest Well it was a fine day today looks pretty good eventually as well but in between we're going to see some rain clouds thickening during the course of this evening it's going to turn up before midnight with initially some of the outbreaks of rain but I think that rain of 10 heavier through the early hours of the night and quite a murky once and for the high level routes as well so take it steady on the roads it will be mild temperatures staying in double figures could be a wet start but that rain will soon clear out of the way will be brightening up from mid morning onwards the sun will come becoming out and that's in the afternoon looks fine and dry game with plenty of very pleasant autumn sunshine the winds not too strong and again it will feel pretty mild temperatures up into the mid possibly . Enjoy it because the weekend turns increasingly stormy you think might be a dry bright start on Saturday but heavy rain strong winds sweep in there are warnings in force some destructive wind and rain possible but in the short enjoy tomorrow sunshine. Forecast. Thank you good afternoon a 39 continuing to struggle in the cones east and west through counting to and same story 2 in and out of wells on the grass and the road and really starting to slow down once again be heading southwest away from Taunton on the $38.00 don't want Bradford and temper likes once again causing delays a full update in around 10 minutes time in the meantime of course if we spot anything we haven't please do give us a ring if it's safe and legal for 53 or 41566. Good afternoon so by lunchtime today Somerset County Cricket Club were safe they'd secured their place in Division One of the county championship by beating Middlesex Lucky for me the last Middlesex work it fell as I was watching. Take it I did god. They said it was they have won by 200 and. You know one runs and in so doing have completed the great escape I just can I just ask your reaction to the result today fern test especially as I was last year when the farce was going on and I must admit it's sort of like you know really just give me a great smile and you know it's just fantastic to see yeah it's good and can I ask what your thoughts are with my not leaving the club I think. I always think it's time for some public me time for somebody else to step up. And you know therefore you know I feel that it could be an opportunity and you know he's done brilliantly so you know I think sometimes time for changed your reaction 1st of all to Somerset surviving delighted as it been now voicing what has been you know there's or hung in there to win 3 of the 3 of the. Last 4 games don't turn really world come good at the end because me been a bit of an old stager I much prefer the 4 day stuff to the it took me 20 t 20 I don't mind the 50 overs stuff but yeah very delighted we didn't want to go down you know it's good to be in stay in the 1st division do you have any thoughts on that may not leaving the club were a bit surprised at the sort of timing but I think it sounded fairly mutual but so things move on I think the one of 2 things not going on quite so well so you know so do you have any particular thoughts on who may become the new head coach and director of cricket where there are rumors about Andy Harry coming back that's what we've heard I think that would be a positive thing but it's only a rumor absolutely delighted for them I've been over 41st week and really pleased for their good bunch of things and what about the news that the club changing direction getting rid of May Now it is director of cricket and then to new roles how do you think that's going to work and what do you think of the decision to let my not go i'm other support. Made a sort of amicable departure because I mean they were only a few points off winning the whole championship last year a couple of It felt this year would have made a tremendous amount of difference and they'd have been relatively comfortable in the hole for the whole of the season so I think he's done a good job for us here. Good young players and left. Couldn't get a lot of wonderful some reaction from fans not only to the result today but to the changes we mentioned yesterday on the program with director of cricket match Maynard leaving the club and 2 new positions of head coach and director of cricket being creative we'll hear from Matt in a couple of minutes back on the pitch Somerset spinner Jack Leach took 9 Middlesex wickets was named man of the match and he told our commentator Anthony Gibson how he felt after the game a surveyor Actually I think that's the last year a similar sort of thing exists for attention feels even better like with probably down to one point in the season so I suppose this office is very special and to be in that one next year it is so important for the club and I suspect you may have set a new record by being the only Somerset bowler to have bowled from the river in throughout 2 entire innings is how does it feel. Yeah I know I enjoyed it for a vote more of this season by actually so from 40 point years find I wanted to keep bowling my hand so I just wanted to keep falling into a job for the same man of the match Jack Leach so Somerset's outgoing director of cricket and head coach Matt Mayne are also spoke to Anthony Gibson after the match must have very mixed feelings here today your last day in Somerset. They survived in the 1st Division but you won't be part of the set up next season no. Suddens Well you know but. Some things could come to an end you know and you're going to have to move on there's obviously a choice. Structure at the club with a new c.e.o. Coming in and having the cricket review and feels that it needs to be the way you know. When that happens a coach or head coach to create a split in the roles very difficult. To stay really because if the new director of cricket and I don't see it that's going to cause friction and the most important people at the club are the players in the dressing room and you know the backroom staff have got to work together work together as smoothly as possible so I think it's been very amicable The club have been really excellent I'm disappointed . But you know I know I'm going to be welcomed back and I've got some good friends here what are you most proud of having achieved during your 3 years here. Probably avoiding relegation this year. Going into the last few games without. Playing the young players the likes of Bartlett Rouse. You know asking tough questions and finding a spot for the skipper you know. It's quite easy back and put him back at 3 but really just in the batting line up. And I think that's what really positively and you know it's not my decision going forward but I think that's a great spot for a stage of his captaincy in his batting career obviously the batsman came back in form but you know the fight that was you know 4 games ago. Going to be relegated and the fight was. In those games has been very rewarding so you may know speaking to b.b.c. Cricket commentator Anthony Gibson just under now it's the cricket. He's going to fill in now it seems like there's not much to talk about I don't know how we're going to fit it all we. Know much going on so we have may not there today was his last day with the club yesterday we had no idea he was leaving so not come as a bit of a. Shock So we'll hear from him we'll also hear from Lee Cooper he's the chief executive he'll be a main part of that decision to change the structure of Somerset We'll also hear from Craig Overton has been called up to the Ashes scored in the last 24 hours so that's a big bit of news and loads more besides course some of that survival I mean that's of a major part of the show is course we're focusing on that as well and then there's the issue with Ben Stokes Nick's Hales as well if you haven't heard about this they've been not considered for the international matches in the for the forseeable future after a video has emerged of a brawl as it seems and in Bristol so there's so much to get on with all of that will sum up some of that season we'll look at how western storm did of course they won the trophy this year in the women's t 20 so so much to get our teeth into Of course we focus on Somerset survival The Great Escape we're still not sure who will stay up out of Middlesex and Hampshire let me design it in the next set of what's coming yeah I've got about 9 overs left of that game I'm sure 6 wickets down they need to not lose those 4 wickets Otherwise they'll be joining in Division 2 so much to come and I still don't know exactly how it's coming up because of that game but when you Somerset is safe we'll talk more about that after 6 good thank you Charlie Charlie said between 6 and 7 of course if you want to talk about cricket you know the number 345-303-1566 you can send an email if you like Somerset at b.b.c. To Somerset. So it's the turn of the conservatives to have their party conference at the weekend it's being held in Manchester the prime minister will celebrate her birthday there as well and to reason May's been talking to b.b.c. Points west David Gunston prime minister the day after the election one angry West Country Tory m.p. About naman was exhausted but he said you were like a small person who went into a pub started a fight and then run away you know the election results weren't what lied hoped for or perhaps even what I had expected and we need to learn some lessons from that I think one of the lessons is that we didn't create the cross the message of what drives this government what drives this government is needs of ordinary working people that's what people will see is our party conference we will be showing how we will build a country that works for everyone and the road to building a better future for your viewers and indeed for people across the whole United Somerset Police say that tipping point because of a lack of funding is the chief constable exaggerating look we have protected police budgets over this over this period and we've also ensured that we're doing providing the funding through the peace transfer made. Fund for the police forces to do the necessary changes to address the issues of crime that we see today of course overall crime falling but I recognize that we need to ensure that police forces are able to deal with the changing so he is exaggerating when he says we're at tipping point we have protected police budgets and what crucially we're doing is ensuring the police forces are able to address the changing nature so what's your message to him then well my message to him is that the government is supporting the police through the protection police budgets but yes what we're also doing is working with police forces to ensure that they can deal with the changing nature of crime why set up a National Crime Agency for example to bring a specific focus to organized crime which of course has an impact on the streets on the streets of the country when you came into Downing Street in 2016 you said you would work for the disenfranchised the people who didn't have much and yet we're seeing public services cut everywhere throughout the West Country aren't you piling on to our children and inheritance of a threadbare fabric of society what we're doing is investing record sums of money in our public services like the n.h.s. And our schools the real challenge for future generations of our children would be the sort of debt that a Labor government would run up because they will be saddling the children into the future and future generations with the debt of their mistakes today it's a birthday this weekend no political present would you like. Headlines genuine ones or hoaxes So the 1st one Sams of time is not a hoax or headline sands of time the story is a message in a bottle thrown into the sea by a boy aged 5 in Dover has been found 30 years later on a Dutch beach sounds of time is not a hoax or a headline I think it's not the best start but it's Ok number 2 coming up. Headline on t.v. Time and time again tea time and time again workers spend an average of 110 hours a year on tiebreaks according to a new survey Luckily I don't have a cup of tea every time with a break otherwise I. Do have quite a lot of tea and every 15 minutes or so I think my nickname is never say no to tea or something similar and always 2 streams of sugar Yeah so tea time and time again is that a hoax a headline you need this one action or yeah I think. It's very good. And still win the week Ok. You have yet to make your point the final one that's a lot if it's not a hoax a headline that says a lot if I say we spend $4493.00 pounds a year on luxuries such as streaming music and t.v. And a post Work point that's according to a new survey so that's a lot of fire is that a hoax or headline you can win the week with this well was going to do a lot. Of us. That was a headline it's not true at all I just didn't really understand. Well a lot as in a lot of money and Spotify as in one of the music streaming services I presume because it was headlined that's where I got with it it's a very good one nobody's won me the days and hours. Yes fine so to morrow they will it will be like some I say cricket when I regain it whatever is in right isn't lost b.b.c. . Hours from fine to free travel you can trust b.b.c. Some. Time for the latest. With all the details starting with cricket this time yeah and a huge sigh of relief though Somerset fans because they've retained their place in Division One of the County Championship a big win for them today in fact by 231 runs over Middlesex on the final day of the season in Taunton it means they will remain in the top flight next season Somerset as we know by now bowled out Middlesex for 113 in the 2nd innings Jack Leach with the pick of the bowling finishing with figures of folly for 57 in a moment you'll hear the thoughts of Captain Tom Abel but his the moment the match was one. I did. It's gone and I'd say it's 7 set of one and in so doing have completed the Great Escape They've won 3 out of their last 4 county championship matches they will go up 12 Middlesex in the table their future in Division One is secure in our kind of asked for anything more the captain in a has been throughout the season skills were not to start the season and obviously not person the position were there we are in. The best day of Mark cricketing career and you know just ups it's a lot for everyone concerned to be honest Meanwhile outgoing director of cricket match may not has been speaking who for the 1st time since his departure was announced his last acting charge was seeing Somerset secure safety now set to announce a new director of cricket and head coach in the coming days may nod won't be part of that set up but this is interesting he says he does plan to carry on coaching it's my passion I love I love coming to work. Whether a go for director of cricket or head coach position or take the easy route and become a bank consultant and you know just work with the coach in some way and there's already been able to offer as well England have said Ben Stokes and Alex Hales will not be considered for selection in till further notice each remains on full pay pending further e.c.b. Research and that going police investigation into an incident in Bristol in the early hours of Monday morning plenty for Charlie Taylor to dissect in the cricket show after 6 o'clock in the world of football Bristol row the squad will be depleted for next week's trip to North Hampton town mainly because of international call ups a good news bad news situation for Rovers the good news is that Tom Lucky is being called into the whale squad for the games with Georgia and with Island Ryan Sweeney will be an island under 21 Judy the pan uses they're going to have to miss games for that club manager Darryl Clarke says it's a bittersweet moment place it's on under me no favors as it's a center all's missing. News travel and weather and of course then the cricket show with Charlie Taylor tonight here on b.b.c. Somerset Firstly they're a familiar prevalent presence in towns across the county they can be seen everywhere from football matches to Carnival and you are now going to hear from some of the officers and horses that make up even in Somerset police's mounted section They've recently moved from a base in Bristol to a new home in North Somerset and the B.B.C.'s Richard Lawson's been for a look round with the help of Sergeant Kerry Williams. This is our my section here based. Race and. We've just been here today every year and I having me from rain and hail rushed in my we were based for a number of years and everybody seems to sell them well and I'll just take you up see Jubilee is one of our typical police horses. And he is definitely born and bred to be a police horse and he's. Hands So one of our big solid boys named by the Queen when she was doing her jubilee. So this is do you believe he's a big fellows. When you walk in because we're in the stables it's the presence when you walk in but also there is very very calm isn't it yeah absolutely and that's the key role for the mind that we've got 2 different aspects one is the Public Order and the other is very much about community engagement and actually breaking down barriers with the public right and we're going outside where we're going that she were going to give me a quick go and so we've got one of the horses actually being ridden that side in the arena so we'll go down and go and have a look at him. Ok like you might see. Independents and literally go through some of the moves that we use on patrol great so nice to meet you can I step up onto this little sort of step so we've got the name of the horse talk right. Ok And again another beautiful horse is this the horse that you would normally ride yes he's my like a toll so we we develop a partnership together you're going to show me what are you going to show me in terms of this is standard procedure is that you have for example if you dealt with a riot of the standards things that you need to do yes we do and like the sergeant explained will just do some lateral movement which is sideways movement of the horse and that would be to push the crowd away from a particular building or to relieve offices so if I give you the microphone or you a bill to talk through what you're doing is you do it would that be possible or try yeah I don't have to hold anything do I just hold it just hold it right I will what I'm going to do now is all I'm going to demonstrate how we are going to move a crowd of people so I got hold of my reins and taken hold a contact with my horse and asked him to go forward. I'm going to ask him to come sorry Dawn to the crowd. Of 2 I and then go as a crowd please move away and I'm going to ask him several times to me the way if they do know I'm going to use my left leg and asked my horse for my left leg to move towards the right and I'm going to say to the crowd has only been right sideways movement please move back please move back please me back just going to ask him to stand and his job is done here going to get a pass to say good boy. Yet being in the crowd of. Again I would say we're talking about the presence but you it's the physical presence of the horse that makes you move out of the out of the way it is and what they do say is that one horse is equivalent to about 6 pace offices so you can see how useful we are and you really don't want to stand up against a moment of standing up here I'm 171 sound 171 and I'm a lot colder as well so there's a lot of holes coming out you Sergeant Gary Williams Talking to b.b.c. . News I'm cricket show coming your way on b.b.c. News or 6 o'clock with Will Richards Somerset's outgoing director of cricket match may nod says he's sad to be leaving the club after seeing them survive in the 1st division of the County Championship Somerset of voided relegation by beating Middlesex by $231.00 runs into on to the club had already announced that it would be minor may not a final game in charge as they're splitting his joint role of director of cricket and head coach into he says he's proud to leave the club in a good position has been very amicable the club are been really excellent I'm disappointed. But you know an on going to be welcomed back and got some good friends in the England and Wales Cricket Board says Ben Stokes won't be considered for selection for international matches until further notice The move follows an. Cation outside a Bristol nightclub earlier this week which ended with Stokes being arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm he was later released without charge but is still being investigated another player Alex Hales was present during the incident and also won't be considered for selection. On the set to cricket and black and Charlie. Act. It's 5 past 6 It's Thursday the 28th of September. Into the cricket show within Blackwell and me Charlie Taylor evening in good evening Charlie can you believe what's happened where we are now yes no probably mainly no but yeah after last season anything could happen so you're still a bit shell shocked. If you haven't heard any of the news today Somerset have beaten Middlesex by 232 runs a massive victory and in the last few minutes has been confirmed that Middlesex have been relegated Hampshire will finish 5th and Somerset by one point are above the relegation zone with all games played so they have survived they won today and that's what they needed to do. We haven't I think I have looked back they've spent 6 days since the start of the season outside the relegation zone some said it is The Great Escape hence why we're playing it it's incredible to see war issue we're unable to sort of match anything that some of us are we capable of and you know to see them win the last 3 of 4 which we probably said you know 3 weeks ago they needed to do that and the Bobsy done it and you know again at home advantage on the work of the suits there. We said at the start the season before on the 1st cricket show before it even started the season we had 4 games and you say some sort of exactly that's 3 of us for goodness made about leaving it like. It was a 10 season and we'll look back with a sigh of relief there will be questions asked about why it didn't finish higher up the table but for now we're enjoying the escape. Whatever they've got the Great Escape has succeeded in Blackwell and me telling Taylor with you through until 7 o'clock this evening in did you think 2 weeks ago we were just talking about what it was actually you and here you 2 weeks ago I was talking to straight after the Lancashire win where suddenly 2 wins and on the bounce some of that just scraped out of the relegation zone and we seemed positive that defeat again sorry had to think sorry some of that we've been feeling heading into the last game knowing that they have to win and then get bonus points probably mixed emotions in the fact that at least they won the previous 2 games and obviously then if they hadn't of you know if that had drawn the those 2 games and lost the story it's curtains but they also knew where they where they stood going into the last game so again it was probably not lie deal sort of you know penalty much but going in home advantage and what the how to do you know I watched the 1st session of day one and you know Middlesex didn't even turn up and I think Gus phrase it obviously had a word with them about the pitch and said it was terrible and all that and that's got to affect the team and they dropped 3 catches I think in the 1st 1st session and then obviously sort of you know spills into the players and the confidence it did seem to me and Middlesex were talking about the pitch straight after day one it seemed to me that that was what was firmly on their mind rather than the match in hand yeah and I just just what I spent to be watching it does yeah and I was talking away news the c.l.o. And he said that Scottie Middlesex coach he colored him in Castle carpark you know the day before the game saying how about the pitch looked I mean if you go in with that mindset what the players going to be thinking well 7 wickets fell this morning in quick time I thought maybe we might get into an afternoon session but Middlesex I was commentating on it they just didn't like that they wanted to be there it looked like they were quite you know can set with waiting to see what the happy were actually game was rather than trying to battle a day yeah you know I think we've all played or so we played in those circles. Once and conditions and there is one with the United. States when when at the races and they just gifted with kids after work in it's sad really because Middlesex are obviously a top outfit the won the championship last year and you know for it's come down to that resign in this game and just hoping that we're going to do them a favor Yeah which they're in the end they didn't do at Hampshire more Drew so Middlesex are relegated by one point the table is unbelievably tight 4th place Yorkshire one for 8 5th place Hampshire one for 8 points 6 play Somerset one for 7 7th place Middlesex one for 6 and they had 2 points deducted for slow overrate when the arrow drove the arrow hitting the field at The Oval and they were deducted 2 points for their slow over right there had they not been Somerset would have been medicated It's unbelievably tight but we always knew it would be 8 teams quarter of the division getting relegated it was always going to come down to the last game really wasn't it yeah I think it was you know it was almost like an act of God at The Oval and everyone knows an insurance policy is not cover for not to God So you know if there are 22 overs down on the overwrite the 2 overs down and you know you can't go game by game thinking will catch up the over rate if the game's dead and we'll put the spinners on because you've got to control and that's the players' shop we've got loads of Grange he's coming up here today we're going to be hearing from Matt Maynard Lee Cooper of course it was announced last night will be leaving the club we've got Craig over to talk about his call up for the Ashes before of that one here from Leech Donbass and Tom Abel about the game just finish their loads and loads coming up for you all the reaction if you're Somerset fine you want to be with us through until 7 o'clock we want to hear from you as well 81 travel 3 Start your message with Somerset and you can give us a call 034-530-3156 extension 60 after the match as a lap of honor which is a bit of an unusual thing for the team and just scraping through but it was such a strong performance at the end of the season you can understand why they did it and let's hear now from Tom Abel who I spoke to after that lap of honor such good feeling. Overwhelmed by the support we've had this year and. Given where we were 4 games ago you know I think to stay ups a special achievement from everyone involved. In the table as far as we're concerned you know I think we have to reassess our goals off way through the season . And I think you know it's as big an achievement or it feels that way as last year because of because of where we were in the table so just stop see over the moon to be honest one of the best feeling I've had in in cricket is funny isn't it today we're all smiles and enjoying the fact that someone said to skate relegation whereas year ago we were down hearted finish 2nd is it funny how cricket plays out here you know and I think there's nothing like Championship cricket sort of bring out the emotions in people and. Look there's been you know many many lows a season and some real hearts and so just to finish in the way we have you know kids us. Such a good feeling going into the off season because I feel like we haven't won anything this season but I think that's a real feeling of achievement after today. Look through the season from home from the point of view where you know you really struggled for runs and needed me when you know that you were in a really really bad thing and start the season you actually drop yourself from the side and in that game we've Gregory captaining they got the 1st win you must or do I have to do to get a win Gregory goes in 1st game he's got one so grateful to learn you got the ball rolling I mean even in those games we didn't win at the start the season. And we played some really good cricket just to keep points in games you know we lost our way and you know you can't afford to do that it's going to cost you. So look I mean it's been soft sort of coming back but to do it in the way we have and I think the attitude in the effort in the last last month or 2 the season has been. Second to None really can ask for more from the Cause you know the ball is a put in a season. And it's been lost so I guess you know when we've needed at the back end of the season because of come good. You know it's never been a question of the work ethic or anything like that it's just I think it came down to skill at the start the season and we weren't quite where we needed to be. But you know just I guess as a captain I was just blessed to have you know the locks Craig Overton and Lee Chee Bessie Coronas all these guys to call upon because they've got us out of holes at times the sheer always been brilliant throughout the year you know even when we weren't scoring runs they're putting us some provisions to win games. And sort of really come to light really how good. These guys are and what they do for us you know you know there's a lot a lot of spin offs to them I think Craig of teams played every game and he's been phenomenal sort of with the ball and with the baton in the field and Nietzsche You know I think he's proving he can he's the best spinner in the country. So you know hopefully that gets rewarded sooner rather than later but yeah constant hard enough you know. Cheney. Fantastic and just back to your game so from that point where you dropped out of how he's moved on so you're back in the side what did you do in that time to drop yourself and come back inside because you you would completely different the bat you looked confident you were going around you you just looked like you're getting to the ball much but it is funny how it happens you know because in the larger world I would have been playing that game again sorry. To see things happen for a reason or when are played in the 2nd team a little bit and charts but with a little bit of freedom I just 600 down cover hundreds of yeah I'm not just you know try to go back to basics really and you know let everything flow and happen very naturally and see working a lot with the coaches and you know because everyone was sort of desperate for me to get to rediscover a little bit of form and then of see Jose moved on. Had the opportunity to play again. You know just I guess I try to avoid putting too much pressure on myself and just go out there and play and watch the ball try not to think too much part in batting and you know. At the crease I think as much as anything and you know batting is a huge confidence thing and start a fun little bit of confidence and you know work out my process and my methods when I was going out to. The seats a lot said. On a personal level I managed to find a little bit of form. To win to win the games especially in the manner we have in this is to just use our finding form you look at just after you've got centuries and yet towards the end of season Hildreth only last a half David Davis has been brilliant in the last half the season someone when he comes in you know he's going to get runs which wasn't the case early on something just me and loads of you yeah I mean it's funny how it happens I think you know sometimes spotting conditions are difficult early season as well. So it wasn't always easy but yeah I think you seen we've seen how good cause can be and I think Steve Davies classic example I think back end of the season he's been phenomenal for us is performed on the pressure. When we haven't got great starts. But then you know I think you know I look at trends and the ups and they've been fantastic when we needed them to be as well how are you then you can go and put your feet up for a little bit I mean we're working hard to get ready for next season soon but how you look back 1st season is captaincy Somerset staying in the top division now when you look back at it I mean my overriding emotion now is you know pure joy and elation. We spoke this morning. And moving on we wanted to. See we're in a good position to start the. Arm in arm got $34.00 memories of the back end of the season to be honest. The start the season my mind and you know fingers crossed next season we can pick up from where we've left off. And you know I think we've started a little bit slowly in the past few years and hopefully we can rectify that next year you'll stay on as captain and she'd love to you know. My passion and you know love for some is huge and I'd love the opportunity to see as wrong as a sort thing for the team and I love nothing more than captaining these boys are a great bunch to captain and I always say the sport I get is huge as well you know it's not just myself I'm very grateful for that as well may not it's going to be leaving the club in fact today is his last day with Somerset so has he helped you in your career 1st of all and then what will it be like without him yeah announced it to us last night in the dressing room and you know we all wish him the very best assume you saw him and I mean I can never thank you enough for he's done for me. You know and the support he's given me the help. The opportunities our guests and shown the faith in me as a young captain and as a young player you know. As I say I can't I can't thank him enough for the loss of catch him off today and sort of make sure you know he's aware because he's been huge for myself and for the team and you know in getting us out of the position we're in I think it's credit to him Tom Good luck of the winter plan see you getting out anywhere you want to not hurt yeah this the last 2 years I've been. In 3 months we're playing nice is not. Staying here I feel like I could benefit from a bit of a break physically or mentally. So they are just trying freshen up and you know take time away and get ready to go come November Captain Tom Abel speaking to me or you could hear the relief in his voice I think now because he knew with 4 games to go Somerset were about 40 points adrift and here they are one point into safety and how you do some psychoactive on an injury prone through your captaincy but I was it like now on the eve of a team to safety I'm much of the biggest relief the level fairly new to life thrust upon him at the age of 2324 it's probably seen 2 years to. In my eyes he's a such a good kid. He still doesn't know his own game in the previous year when he you know took the captaincy end up dropping himself and coming back in and so please for him coming in and getting the runs that he's done towards a back end of the year they played like. They they did towards you know most of last year you know the last 3 games is just phenomenal and it's frustration the fact they come done anything like this at the start of the year and you know to always be looking up the table rather than you know being mid table or looking up or down it's so frustrating if think halfway through the season you mentioned about just reevaluating what was a good season and it was going from title chasing and then they read and said it's survival is actually that having that change of mind running going for wins in every game perhaps learning when to go for draws even if you think you know you want to go for a win actually probably was quite a good thing that just that mental state to change it yeah I know also talking to the ground stuff and you know Simon lays an excellent grounds and for me it just felt like they were trying to do what they did last year at the start of the year this year and the wicket wasn't hard enough so the turn wasn't wasn't there because the no solidity to the square it was still quite soft so I think last year was obviously rolled well enough to create that hard drive which spun sharply towards the end of the year which Somerset's ploy to brilliantly and probably the wrong tactic to do it early on this year lessons learned then yeah I hope so because obviously they've got a great seam attack as well and they saw it you know that cost them because you got the Gregory's the Overton's you know these guys the ground evolves and you know they've they've got enough sameness to both sides out as well as sort of you know the batters to get the runs so frustrated a little bit but hopefully they'll probably see that as a big challenge to cope with next year and they got through it this fight that terrible start yeah yeah they have we do say that there is a there is a small chance just the way the things go with the curriculum as an officer that does have to go up to someone who hasn't been docked points doesn't mean yet that is absolutely a done deal we should just say with a tiny tiny caveat that's going could be still an issue what's your thoughts on that yeah I think from what I can understand I spoke to a known soft unknown and he basically said there's going to be an investigation up . Which has been a Middle Sexes. Request so fill with the cases another c.l.o. Is not any higher than why noone purely independent he's going to go and make an investigation on the findings he's going to look at footage he's going to speak to both captains both empires and obviously way known and then they'll make an independent decision himself. And from a been an umpire this year of them Part 5 championship games and the sea allows us the umpires what they think of the pitch because they're the ones in the middle they see what's happening and I think I'd be very disappointed if Phil went against what Wayne and the umpires have already decided what the pitch was which is below average you know and they use that to their advantage so there is a chance that something to come of it Fingers crossed that fellow see it the way that Wayne and the 2 empires didn't you know capable average the other thing of course we should mention just at this point is that Middlesex I would be surprised if they didn't try and do something about those 2 points which were docked from them of course that would if they would be reinstated which it's hard to imagine that it would be because it would have changed how Somerset went into this match knowing had they known that those 2 points of comeback. Would just say for now some of the safer we'll go with that as that's what it says on the division one table let's hear from Don bassy side really good season he came to the full at the end of last season and well he started ripping through teams there with his off spin and you felt you must've seen him play a bit in what do you think of Donbass as an off spinner Yeah I mean you know look east come into the side and he's playing on conducive pitches he's got good control he certainly gives a rip. I mean in my eyes again he's just an off spinner he doesn't offer anything with you know King Cole or you know a deuce or anything like that but what he has got is control Anees reliable and he comes to hold about as well he's got some important runs on in this year from a if you've got somebody that can bowl in town the wood. You know that from aids for medical in a side and you know I always used to love bowling with Dutchy you know spin at both ends because she evolves got the foot on the throat of the opposition there's no sort of 345 minute same over you know one minute strike in your often if it's conducive to spin you know it's very hard to play and I've now together Jack Leach and and the best taking more than $100.00 wickets when they've been bowling together and that's just at the end of last season and all of the season together let's hear from him now this is dumb bastard chatted to me after today's finale Yeah it was amazing. 5 or anything it just seems right how we did it. In coach leaving. It just had to fair everything had to fit I think today's precise question how we did it as well. We won by $23.00 So you saw I mean it's not like it's even come close I mean it's just everything we've sought for this year we've always been in the bottom 5 groaning why it's yeah it just seems so right what changed is the start the season was really tricky and then you know he won 3 of your last fall yeah I mean Percy I was so I didn't start sort of 1st Kerry as a team the whole Yeah it was you know what I just think we just we really realized we were in a dogfight and I think after Essex we really sat out and sort of we knew we were battling because I was we've left the internet how yeah how we have 40 points 50 points off like comfortably we knew we had to win and just having that goal that we we have to scrap for everything. Was class ready because it shows we had that goal we've just slashed it even if it has taken the last day of the season again to do it but we've done it in time and I think it's massive credit to the boys specially so the lads who maybe struggled during the season to really fight hard and come through a. A lot has to go to him because he's fight so hard personally and for the team it's been a massive credit to have him back really drop yourself from the Sawyer and one and then back him making runs and leading a team and like you said that 40 yesterday with Hildy was just class it was so. How important in him as as a leader have you seen him change because of c.s. Is new to him was not what you see East described as a passenger know what everyone's was so much more respect for him and everyone you talk around the group and everyone has already had such a high sort of respect a lot had the ball was so high and so with respect aspects and he's just gone even further. Because he's such a player. Off field and on the field for teammates and stuff he's been quality and then obviously to have people like the Sheehan Craig who. Has just been class all season. May not announced yesterday that he won't be with the club next year how do you look back on what match them for your career he's. Given me the opportunities and I can't always thank you enough for that I mean she took me 3 years ago where I was and now he's given the option if he's also out all the management Jason. Twice who was fielding everyone who's been a part to help me along my path waste being quality and I can't thank you man enough. Of say we only found out last night. Just before it went out so is off a bit of a downer but it. Made us almost. A little bit more special today's isn't a light you know I mean you get a little bit more spurred on and off the Dow's 21 years a car he sort of like I said not famous was he so got me as a 4 and I'm completely changed he's just finally then I want to talk about moment from this match to talk me through that ball to Milan which got him his 2nd and. 3rd. I know I can really believe. Just sort of what you need to do is an option I guess just Char if it's not she can get a good game coming forward I mean I yeah I think I saw the ball before it did him as well a bit one skated on it was his off Scott was your 1st goal to him and it was yeah only faced and not yet on the right and in the next spot out there and then it just is yeah which is all say what you saw get here and I mean. Obviously with the pictures Well I think I think it shows to everyone that it's going to spin far it hasn't been ridiculous we've we've end up scoring. Well 236-251-8350 was so when we were trying to push on really and when it's best to play it exactly so I mean like this with I think saw him on and off see all that kind of stuff what's so out this year just go to them Well I mean yeah it was I was happy with that they're not really in Milan such an important play and you going to score in silence here so I want to win to hold for you and I'm not sure. Obviously. I won't be going away at all past the sort of. Australia looking to the past 2 years will be about the 6th season in a row sorry to rest the fingers trying it's phase I can again for she without gas. Gas phase I can't hasn't down time hopefully you never know what will come in place this winter and we have lots of feeling looking at the futures on the sex you've got a different chief executive feel different director of cricket and you had to. Be excited about that Wow Right yeah no I'm excited so it's exciting times. It's going to be different I reckon I think with the group Flyers and that this year showed what we can really tell you which is. Which is quality to come from absolutely nowhere and far as hard as we can it would be. I reckon it will be something special next year Donbass there was a nice bloke here someone who's a young cricketer loves his cricket he's fantastic to watch in the field as well absolutely flings himself about and yeah he's good at what he does he's feisty as unease is one of those guys that got passion and whether that's driven by the club or driven by him and who's around him but you can just see as devastated when he gets hit for a 4 he's devastated when he drops a catch and that's the passion that I think that sort of united the team towards the end of the year and I must say having watched him quite a bit throughout from the 1st game right through to today they're fielding this year some of that has been excellent and it that makes such a difference and I know they started badly and there are several reasons for that but fielding was not one of them have been excellent in the field all season you know I think that's something that Somerset of always prided themselves on to be fair for the last 10 years you know that you no longer work hard in the field and the hoary were charred in the field and obviously that's that's carried on through and the pride that these lads have got is is phenomenal and you know that needs to stay in there just need to build on perhaps a better start to the season we'll talk about the t 20 season how that went we'll look back at the one day Cup as well talk about Craig Overton's call up to the Ashes and then you set up with so much going on Maynard leaving the club today a new set up with a head coach and a director of cricket splitting those 2 rules of roles which had been combined Up until this point before we talk about that there let's hear from a really bright shining star for Somerset Jack Leach who are a lot of people are upset that he missed out on the Nash's court because the ashes in a in a bit but 1st just about Jack Leach as a spinner you must watch him and just drool because it's perfect isn't it it isn't I mean the way bowls you know the fast that happened last year and it probably broke him for the 1st half of this year and he's a sensitive guy I. Love the way you approach is life in general as well as there's . Cricket such a nice guy he just wants to ball as many obs as he can and he can bowl on a sixpence and he can bowl in a day which you know for any captain that is an absolute dream of being left arm spinner as well he's got all the attributes and he can even hold about as well so you know border in all rounder status but you know his ball and he's certainly getting towards the pinnacle I've seen from him we're going to hear from him last year asking about his batting or as I say it's really noticeable how that's changed particularly this season and he mentions here about the call he took from James Whittaker the England selector when he was letting Jack now that he hadn't mind made the Ashley Scott makes for interesting listening this is Jack Leach amazing amazing it's a big relief I think of one point in the season we're probably down and out and we've shown good toughness ataman good fight. To give ourselves a chance coming into the last game and then under pressure we had to put in this performance on 1st of all as he did it so it was tougher for the pressure I can't imagine it's like knowing because you got bonus points issues as well you get past that and you know you've got a winner for you how's this pitch played because there's been a few worries about it from the Middlesex camp are you happy with it yes fine no no issues with the victory I mean it is a spending with him was. Speaking some of their lives they knew that they were going to come here to that wicket. That's part of home advantage part of what we found with us we were going to just produce a fight with him because I never feared you're also. You know they pay the same $5.00 sides they have 1st been as there's been a got 12 but you're still 12 with it so grab the ball really well so what we've already won as a unit everyone kept the pressure on and we went about it very well. Is fantastic effort from from you not just gonna be coming on a season he's going 6 is as well or not well this season how do you feel about that yeah I enjoyed success and yeah he managed to get in the door of the. Play from a. I really want to pick out from her Yeah I. Know yeah there's something important area for me to keep but I think I'll start speaking to James Woods because you're going to see them you know about not being selected and he said keep working all facets of the game so it's really important to me to keep working with batting. And I feel like it's an area that's getting better and better and any indication from James that you are some looking in the future because I'm so you'd been disappointed to miss out but. This is you know keeping an eye on you yeah definitely I think if the message was I wasn't too far away and skeet working hard to keep it keep developing and I mean your chance will come so I'll. Try to go try and we can't keep ignoring the performances you put out not just the taunting you know you're taking with it's all over the country so you know it's not like it's you know it's helpful picture it's everywhere to help feed and. Hopefully Alliance talk not denounce the next couple of days so as to Australia which will be good to learn a bit about what's out there and things like that so. If my window injured. You might get a call would would does that mean you're expecting I was you know expecting to get injured if it does happen there's a chance I have to be ready for that you know I think that would be the best thing to do so. Yeah but despite all my wealth in winter Well whatever happens Jacqueline it's been a pleasure watching it's an extract you know. So this was a from an interview that thick gave yesterday to b.b.c. Somerset saying that if. During the tour of Australia and that just because expecting Leach will get the call he'll be out potentially out there with the lines and he's hoping to get a call or do you see them doing not want why not include him in the squad if that is something which they'll do it should mean get injured. I guess it's one of those things that they have a squad and they'll they'll stick to it. They're happy of bringing people in on a moment's notice if you like. Of the lines they're going over there as well although yes yeah I'm strongly of it so yes. It makes sense to take him so that there's you know somebody local if you like without the jetlag and without the climates are zation so I'll be very surprised if he doesn't go on Alliance trip just so that is right place right time. And almost if they need control because with Mason crane there I can't see him getting a game unless they're going to play 2 spinners so for me if Mogo down then it makes sense to bring in somebody with control obviously different types of spin between crane and Leach but. Why I just think he just was someone who was consistently a lot like Jackson 51st last week this season 60 odd last season you just want some of these in the middle of their game that they're clearly happy with with you know how he's playing Yes I also think it's just typically English and the fact that they'll pick somebody probably next year when he's taking 25 wickets at 50 you know randomly think he's deserved his shot. You know for me that's wrong I think you need to pick somebody at the height of their confidence contributed pretty well to their county and also to give him that experience of the higher level because you just never know with people they'll either take to it all they'll they'll crumble and you know there's no harder place to go than in Australia and to put yourself against probably you know the best team in the world the tour next winter I think is for Lanka so perhaps they're looking in thinking they're spinning pitches over there maybe that's a better chance to play them in with I don't know if I'm not any more wise to England as he and his I'm afraid I don't think anyone really is it is 24 minutes to 7 Charlie Teo any impact on the cricket show b.b.c. Somerset Somerset have survived is a sign of relief going around the county as I say that by one point we're going to go out to a bit of a line under that now we've got loads to get through we need to talk about this new structure at Somerset so the news is the main obs is no longer with Somerset he has left the club 2 years before his contract. That was a quite a long time before that and this is all to do with a restructuring before we get on to the new structure I did speak to Matt briefly about how he's now having watched his team that he sort of molded together having not had an overseas player how he feels having watched them thrash Middlesex. I think when we came into the back end of the season without a nervous is player. With a. Fairly inexperienced side if you look at Bowman Rose prior to that. But absolutely chuffed reacted how tight the boys have been on the perch in all the scrap for every single run through all of those 4 matches and before that as well but with batted better as a group and got those partnerships together and yeah delighted at the end of the season it was still a division one side so that was my main out talking about the game today you can hear the full interview where he talks about leaving Somerset on tomorrow's breakfast show with Clare Carter of course not just losing a head coach and director of cricket which is the role losing a bus driver in which is of course important as well you might remember last season I think as last season passed his bus driving license meaning he was a part time bus driver for Somerset squad as they went on away games so a lot always had no the. Driver No it's not just the coaches are all about behind the driving seat as well now Lee Cooper the new chief executive of Somerset he went to go from Guy lavender halfway through this year and I spoke to b.b.c. Somerset this morning about the decision to restructure the club and he explained to crack after a bit more about what's going on behind the scenes the decision followed your view so the review is something we do annually as a club. It's been on going to last month or 2 and throughout the process of that we identified that having one individual it's responsible for everything cricket was to take an arts. So responsibilities include coaching motivating the player is recruitment both domestically and overseas contract negotiation strategy and the list just goes on for the past 3 or 4 years we just have one individual doing both of those roles so it's for that reason Beason we've decided to restructure So is Matt not good enough for one of those euros. That is good enough for one of those wrote. A role we're in discussion with Matt for was the head coach but having held the position of director of cricket for the last 3 years to Somerset it was retreat to side it and I just need to make a point it was mutual That actually was going to be in a different direction because Be honest they'll be a lot of fans out there thinking truth be told it's not been a great season we're not actually surprised this would probably come down to performances. And I wouldn't be surprised by that reaction but at the same time. Categorically concerned that actually results would go on a different direction this year the same conclusion would've been drawn ultimately it's a structure issue not a personality issue and therefore we're making those structural changes and then it's just understanding how all the personnel we do sit within the within the new structure and on. This conversation with much been going on for some time and we as I said earlier usually agree that. We as a couple go in a different direction that's why you made this decision why on earth make this decision now. That's a really good question and sponsor will learn a lot about maps from my answer so we had a member's q. And a last night which was the certain evening of the of the game if we look at results throughout the course of the season that Taunton we've not actually gone into the 4th day. So masonite agreed last night that. Instead of. Sending off questions in the queue in a way to then release a statement today we would just be on the front foot and communicate with the decision it's now with regards to Matt and this is quite an important point we've got to our strengths in conditioning coach. The nes at least the club today after 22 years it's a highly popular character and Matt actually didn't want to steal his thunder today when actually we'll be celebrating his service with the club. Speaking to Carter on breakfast this morning before the final day do you buy that the restructuring or do you think that he was a move to move may not out of some of that it's very good wording by Lee Cooper I think he seemed quite a shooter what use doing obviously Martha Coakley is left on his contract so very surprised that he's not a coach if he was suitable for that role but I think. Reading into it between the lines that obviously the club wanted to go on a different direction Well it does mean now that we the club is without a head coach and director of cricket we're expecting that pretty shortly I was speaking to someone at Somerset saying that they have been appointed waiting for the go ahead to the names out there a few names which have been mentioned of course Chris Rogers is that the club expect him to move into one of those roles you think he could Yeah potentially if ya mean head coach would would probably survive he's been there for a couple years now and obviously played knows everybody really well and it just depends I think the players will have been asked to thought the question of who they would like to come down to the place I would have thought so we had that in the past where you know certain players don't get on with certain coaches and there's a bit of a revolt and you know you are asked your opinion and whether or not they take the opinion I think you asked who I want my boss to be you know you know it's very different isn't it that's a very special position to be in that you're asked who you want your boss to be I think though on the scheme of things where you talking about talented players and you're very tight with what you do Charlie Don't get me wrong but you've got to keep those players motivated and happy and if there's 7 or 8 players that you can't replace. I am saying you're replaceable by the way in the fact that you've got to keep those people happy and if they're not then that just makes for a disaster so for me I think that they may have had a option to say that you know time time for change do you think also with some of that being the size of club is that pretty desperate to hold on to those key players because there's plenty of bigot seems that some players could join should they want to and I think 1st and foremost the state in division one. Whether or not that makes a difference to the players playing in Division $2.00 and $1.00 in aspirations play for England. It can be done in Division 2 but I think those cute and so you know. It is been done their individual one which hopefully a lot of players all and I think Somerset's different to a certain extent because it is a club where people actually want to play and if you play for some of you know you go somewhere else and that very often boomerang and come back so it I think that the clubs in a good position and certainly now stand in Division one that's going to help attract people to the top just very briefly some of the names it's been mentioned these new roles which being created and Jason bowling coach he's been there for a long time and see some polling is going very well at the moment some so I do see him fitting in had sexual deviancy role I haven't thought of him as a head coach I think he's obviously good at what he does in terms of getting fastball is through and you know whether or not they stay fit because of the people at the club or whether it's him that's got the programs right. But yeah I mean he's obviously been there so he knows a lot of people whether or not people would see that as a justifiable head coach appointment I think there would probably think right let's go for a big name go for somebody that you know can inject some some real difference to the club and then Andy Herries another name which has been mentioned course used to be with some states going off and spent some time with the e.c.b. Development Program So someone's got a lot of experience in the wider context of the game at the National Yeah and I think Sarge be very good at the the o.c. Role he'd obviously chip in on field and you know he could help out he's fit as a butcher's dog still and you know he knows things a little more Maroons Now yes and he can he can still walk the floor with most players I can tell you that much but you know he'd be an asset to the club and you know I'm sure he'd love to be sort of this neck of the woods again and he could add some real value thanks very much in coming up very shortly we will hear from Craig over to news being called up to the England Ashley squad for the winter 1st of all that. Travel b.b.c. People you can trust on b.b.c. Some say. It's the British show with majorly tell him back well this is why we're reviewing the season we're also talking about some of the big news and there's been a lot of news recently with overs in getting caught up to the Ashes We'll talk about in a 2nd and the restructuring of the club scene that may nonce departure Let's talk about Craig Overton someone who's been absolutely brilliant for Somerset this season has been I think they never a single championship game he's missed any a couple of the one day in t 20 matches together how do you rate him. High class international level yet I mean if Toby Rowan Jones can can go under for Middlesex I'd put him in the same bracket without a doubt the control the House with the ball the aggression that he plays with sometimes borderline but I think you need does a fastball or he's told he generates pace and he can get the ball off the straight and then he can also give it a long time the with about he's been in trouble before for comments he's made me sad disciplinary action because of that he's got the temperament you mention his aggression there. Yes I think so and also he's performing at a high level and I think that somebody like Craig deserves this opportunity. And he's done it. Consistently it's not just a flash in the pan and you see these guys you know Porter from Essex known would have heard of him from from Adam a start this year come insane a shed load of work it's performed brilliantly but Craig's done that for 23 years now and for me I think he deserves his chance let's hear from him he spoke to Anthony Gibson after he had that he'd been called up to the England Ashley squad to charter train that's for sale and obviously to get caught up like I haven't it's really nice and just shows that hard work does pay off. The oceans are great cricketing family your mother and father feeling of this you are a sort briefly this morning they're both very happy and I think any parents would be pretty happy with the way it's gone so far. I can I can keep making the pardon and the one about Brother j.b. How does he feel about you having beaten him to it to make you an England touring person. I think he's pretty happy seems pretty happy obviously it's so that disappointing that he's injured but I know its character he'll come back stronger stronger and before and. Next time and you'd be looking forward no doubt to the pair of you taking the field in England colors Yeah of see that's that's that's the idea hopefully hopefully he can stay fit for a bit Simon principal formants is that get selected you've been selected for 2 England one day schools without making the final cut. You have you confident this is going to be 3rd time lucky you know you never know obviously there's the senior players in the squad or obviously expert experienced bowlers that I see in that part of their party going to start and you never know it's as serious as there's always going to be put a couple of injuries so I got to go but obviously don't hope anyone gets injured either so hopefully we do really well on a plate be a good experience definitely and you must be looking forward to bowling on those hard fast Australian pitches banging into the pitch as you do you know obviously it's going to be something different playing here and probably know. I'll enjoy it and just say that the challenge that makes you seem to have risen to the challenge in the 2nd half of the season and leading the attack really well in the sense we've been bowling well all season but you seem to have lifted your your your bowling game even more so in the last few matches I don't think I've left doesn't feel like I've lifted it's just feel like about really well all year in it's just that this comes as of injuries that I've survived to lead from the front a little bit but I don't think I've done that many going as a pretty much played almost every game since it's over. I mean those have been injured so we've sort of worked together and just search out and just just making sure that we're we're on the time and then obviously it backed up by leaching Bessie really well but would it be fair to say that you've improved your accuracy and you're also seems to be boning faster than you yeah that was one thing sort of I worked on lost when. I've always been proactive but generally when I bought charge of all of it quick I've lost it that's one thing I do work on last year just so I'll get bit quicker but keep that consistent consistent accuracy and it seems a paid off Craig Oates and you know I'm really excited about because I think you'll get a game Personally I think likely it is that one of the other seem as well will get injury all missing game whatever especially if it's Ben Stokes ends up not not going a little bit more about that in a 2nd do you think you'll put in the show. I think he's certainly got a very good chance come of age I think now he's not seen as a an up and coming player he's doing the business. With it whether it's bottom ball he's got aggression he's certainly going to be suited to those fast bouncy wickets out in Australia and I just hope that they do you know thrust him into a deep end just give him a game because I know he won't be down that's the thing is even if you know let's say there are few batting issues some England have got not all Muslims and. Even if you know they therefore know down with a game to go I think just throw you know a bit like Ben Stokes did in the last 2 or stages and the last game didn't exactly yeah just throw him in and you know you never are just I'd love to see him there and I'd love to see him take a few wickets be brilliant salute and if he runs because he can do that let's talk now about the whole season really going back to the start address our 1st cricket so here we had Tom Abel in the studio where star 2017 and let's talk about the one day competition which is all over and done pretty soon really it was a bit different to what we expected because of the timings trophy which was you know they want to get there in early and what do you think of some of that they're getting through to quarter final it was a massive scoring game against the eventual winners Nottinghamshire which knocked him out they played pretty well in that competition but yet towards the end I think they they won quite a few on the trot which you know going into the quarter finals day you kind of think they go in with momentum but look at the not you know squad that they've got they they just steamrollered people in one day cricket this year and ultimately won the t 20 as well so no disgrace to lose interlocks but you probably think that maybe a bridge too far for some or maybe a couple of missing pieces and you know they weren't quite on it because Championship cricket was quite poor at that stage as well so you know you could say they did well to reach a quarter finals Yeah it was fun watching them it was a really fun competition to watch that some set had their tails up for a lot of it which is which is great obviously when both teams score $400.00 plus it's it's hard to lose that game you've done so well but it's a little it was a flat batting wicket that was prepared for that game here that yeah that was yet rendered 50 play friends and 50 some set eyes chase ever in a one day match let's talk as well t 20 similarities got to qualify. Knocked out by nots who were then went on to win the company is exactly the same so again something that some such should be proud of sneaking through yeah of course I mean if you're going to go out and he told him and you want to go up against the winners so they did in both forms and you know they can look back and probably say yeah great we got to the final stages which you obviously I hope as say not Somerset do that very proud one day players and the clubs steeped in history of certain places but you know for them it was probably a bridge too far this year and. Hopefully they can they can work out a better strategy for next year yeah of course the captain now those both Tim Allen but he's not going to be with the club next season as we found out on the show. Or does will that make a big difference I think it takes a bit of rebuilding time before we can see some of that released you know with the structure possibly be just see what they do because obviously Louis Gregory and you know guys like that of throwing the high in the ring in one day cricket for the captaincy whether or not they recruit an overseas which can do that job or even domestically I'm sure they're looking at players that can add to the current squad they've got and you know say exciting times there's a lot of question marks at the club at the moment and hopefully we're not in you know 2 to distance to get those on so it's hard to call isn't it because there was so much change between now and when we're back here in April for the 1st cricket show 2018 and we should say it was silverware for one of our teams this year fantastic effort from western storm he went on to win the 2nd ws Al just a word on then because they they had a bit of you know it wasn't the most convincing group stage but then were great on finals Well the 1st game was French pretty horrific Yeah I did one of their games and they they performed pretty well. It just goes to show I mean the only play 5 games and you know if the lose won but then they get some momentum and anything can happen I snuck into the finals day probably went into their advantage is that they play. The final whereas obviously the. Work it was yeah it was everything it was it . Wasn't so and they they probably got to grips with the work it better because obviously they played the game before and obviously the champions didn't they went straight to the finals are probably help them out a little bit unfair play to them. You know not suffer think is 150 in the end so well played to them they a couple of them we hope we will be popping into the studio tomorrow you'll be able to my interview with them on Saturday here on b.b.c. Some said that they're bringing the trophy with them which is great news right now there's been a bit of a sour note really which is a shame that we ought to cover it and England vice captain Ben Stokes is not going to be considered for selection for international cricket until further notice that England Wales Cricket Board took the decision after viewing footage published on the Sun's website which appeared to show him fighting outside a nightclub in Bristol the B.B.C.'s Sports News correspondent Richard Conway has the latest So the e.c.b. Saying that Ben Stokes knocks on our sails will not be considered for selection they're saying it's not a suspension per say they will not be considered for selection and international matters until further notice now they say that they remain on full pay pending their own investigation and of course that of the $8.00 than in Somerset Police now the this all stems of course from an incident in Bristol in the early hours of Monday morning and why is it come to a head today when it is come to a head because of a video that has emerged the Sun newspaper publishing a mobile phone footage it is graphic it is violent in nature and we haven't been able to independently verify this either but this we believe is water has core senior figures at the e.c.b. Today to discuss the matter to discuss what to do and to take these interim measures which have seen which it will see Alex sales and Ben Stokes not considered for selection for international duty until further notice senior figures at. Getting together today talking this over and deciding they had to take steps had to take action today that is Richard Conway the b.b.c. Sports news correspondent in I think you'll understand why I'm not asking for any opinions on that at the moment is a really tricky subject which legally we should really go into but that that is the latest on that one they're not Alex Hales and Ben Stokes not considered for selection and I think we will draw a line under that what we all to wrap up in the year number 4 that we've done the cricket show it's been another great one you've been up and down the country on par is great to see you get in so much umpire I mean we lose you slightly which is our last but just Somerset your last words on there is looking at Division one cricket next season yeah I mean it's fantastic achievement to come out and you know climbed Mount Everest what was the last 4 games and to win 3 out of 4 and do it without overseas as well which shows a lot of carrots and you know just a bit for Tommy such a nice kid and I think the relief on his face was for ever wants to see you know when when Leach You got the final wicket and you know gee it's just great to see a club that is as good as Somerset Steyn in that division one and although Middlesex are going to suffer from sure they're going to you know fight like hell to try and get those points overturned or all travelling west on the fiction but you know it's great for some so yeah absolutely out just very briefly plans for winter because of there's not much umpiring goes on in there and some say over October through to March there's a bit a bit of coaching down the ground just delays in with Greg Kennison and Steve Snow also you know hopefully will be some sessions on account of great stuff or hopefully kept up with you before next season if not we'll see you probably late March early April time for the next day cricket shown back in 2018 in thank you so much for your time we really legislative That's it for the cricket over 2017 Somerset have survived we are talking about a division one team playing at Taunton next season time for a few drinks I think the sun sets on the 27000 season thanks for being with us Georgie Spanswick is next.
