Top city hotels drop prices by up to 50pc to get bodies in beds

Five-star capital city hotels are unleashing a wave of deals up to 50 per cent off luxury rooms in the hope of exhuming tourism in metropolitan centres after the Easter break and ahead of the lucrative July school holiday period.

In November and December 2020, occupancy rates for city hotels were between 8 per cent and 17 per cent, according to figures from STR Data Solutions. Some major urban centre hotels have reported occupancy rates as low as 4 per cent a night.
