Theater review: 'The Sound of Music' heralds return of live, in-person theater

THOMASTON – Landmark Community Theatre is presenting its first musical of 2021, “The Sound of Music,” since their doors were shuttered at the Thomaston Opera House due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Sound of Music” continues through Aug. 1.
The beloved musical that was suggested by “The Trapp Family Singers” by Maria Augusta Trapp features music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The stage book, written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, differs slightly from the movie version. The stage version contains songs omitted from the film, and has musical numbers performed in completely different scenes.
