MANITOWOC - There was plenty of pomp and circumstance as the S.S. Badger car ferry made its maiden voyage of the season across Lake Michigan Thursday and arrived at the Manitowoc dock on South Lakeview Drive.
To celebrate the event, students from Lincoln, Lutheran and Roncalli high schools were on hand to welcome the ship and its passengers by playing “A Jubilant March,” composed for the celebration of the City of Manitowoc’s 150th anniversary.
A brief ceremony included remarks from Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels and new owners of the car ferry, Lake Michigan Car Ferry, a subsidiary of Interlake Maritime Services. To celebrate the maiden voyage under new ownership, Interlake Maritime Services also hosted a 20- to 25-minute fireworks show Thursday night over Lake Michigan.
