A teenager who was shot in Mundelein in 2019 has died from complications.
According to a Cook County medical examiner's report, Carys Castillo, 16, of Skokie died late Friday at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.
He had been shot by a friend Sept. 28, 2019, on the 200 block of Longwood Terrace in Mundelein. The 15-year-old friend was charged in a juvenile petition with reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
The medical examiner's report listed Castillo's death as a homicide. Mundelein Police Chief John Monahan said it'd be up to the Lake County state's attorney's office to decide if additional charges should be filed now that Castillo has died.
