SAGINAW, MI - Mattie Thompson’s care for the children within the community runs deep in her heart. Her family, including her late husband Willie Thompson, have always had an urge to help.
Willie Thompson was a three-time Saginaw Public Schools Board of Education board president and held the seat for 30 years. Now, Mattie continues his legacy by looking out for the children’s needs and fair access to proper education.
“My sister and I, we’re firm believers in making sure that our children have everything they need as far as personal needs and clothing,” Thompson said. “There is a discrepancy between families in East side and West side and I want to make sure that all of our children can compete and don’t have to go to school without proper clothing or shoes.”
