SWANSEA — Newly re-elected Selectman Christopher R. Carreiro’s political life began at age 21, when he was elected to the Swansea School Committee. Twelve years later, he continues serving the town of Swansea, with a decisive electoral victory over opponent, Melissa Afonso.
“I was involved with the town as a volunteer firefighter and also volunteered for Swansea Cable Access television,” Carreiro, who also works as an attorney with a local law office, says. “This sparked my interest in participating in higher levels.”
Carreiro enters this new phase of local service with specific goals in mind. He wants to focus on “consolidating all of town operations under one roof.” He cites the inadequacy of the town government being housed in two separate buildings, the original town hall, and the Swansea town hall annex.
