STOUGHTON — A lieutenant who has been with the Stoughton Police Department for over 20 years could face a five-day suspension for failing to call his bosses after a December incident at a church involving a Black man who was later determined to have mental health issues.
Lt. Daniel McGowan had a six-hour disciplinary hearing Wednesday that focused on an alleged violation of department policy to notify the chiefs about incidents of heightened community interest or potential liability after a man in a coat walked into the Christadelphians Church at 48 Freeman St. on Dec. 27, asked if it was a church that police officers attended and acted as if he was concealing something.
