The process of renovating the Stormont Vail Events Center has essentially come to a close as 10 years of work has mostly been completed.
Kellen Seitz, general manager of the Stormont Vail Event’s Center for Spectra Venue Management, said work is 99% complete — all that remains is landscaping delayed by the recent rainy weather.
“This was long overdue,” said Shawnee County commissioner Kevin Cook at Thursday’s commission meeting. “This gives us a completely new facility to be able to enjoy.”
The location served as the Kansas Expocentre after improvements were made in the 1980s, but Cook said the center hadn't see many improvements since. The area used to serve as the location of the Kansas Free Fair and the Topeka Fairgrounds.
