Now all they need is the vaccine itself.
For a first round, St. Joseph's/Candler requested about 8,500 doses, enough to cover its staff of about 4,500 and about 4,000 first responders. Memorial requested about 3,000 doses to cover its staff. Neither system is sure about what it will receive.
Dr. Lawton Davis, the director of the Coastal Health District, which provides public health services to eight coastal counties, expects the area to be among the first in Georgia to receive the vaccine, but is also unsure of specifics.
"We in the coastal area will actually be on the forefront of receiving vaccine as part of a pilot project," Davis said Friday. "So we would hope to get a vaccine in the early days, though I don't know exactly how much we'll get. But it could arrive as early as Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. I just don't know."
