STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wayne Roccarro of Holiday Beverage said April is significant in the Eltingville beer store — 4569 Amboy Rd., 718-356-0100, Holidaybev.com. Not only is it the prime season for the appeal of some of his brands but it’s also an opportunity to step into the fresh air and get together, he said, as social distancing formally allows.
“Cherry blossom time now means I will be reuniting with customers who have been hibernating for the winter,” said Roccarro with a chuckle. He says that traditionally patron hanker for Strongbow’s Cherry Blossom, a pink-y cider that parent company Heineken USA recommends served over ice, and Hofbrau Maibock. The latter, copper-hued brew was invented by William V, Duke of Bavaria who founded his Hofbräuhaus in 1589, one of two Bavarian-run traditional Munich breweries in existence today. It’s 7.2% ABV can stand up to the brine of aged cheeses and smoky barbecued foods.
