Demonstrations showing support for the end of Cuba's communist regime popped up throughout Collier and Lee counties over the past few days. In addition to the group at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Airport-Pulling Road South, dozens of ex-patriots and their friends and family planned to demonstrate in Cape Coral and downtown Fort Myers.
Protests in Cuba began Sunday, and it's considered the country's biggest anti-government movement in the past 30 years. Cubans continue a decades-long struggle for freedom, especially now during the country's worst economic crisis in decades.
One of Wednesday's demonstration organizers in Naples, Yenier Alvarino, said he and a group of people have been organizing since Sunday and have been announcing their gatherings on the Facebook Group "Patria y Vida - Naples."
