MT. HERMON, N.C. — Southern Alamance is going to the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 3A softball playoffs following a walk-off victory.
The Patriots won a 5-4 thriller against the defending 3A state champions Eastern Alamance on Wednesday night. Southern Alamance saw its four-run edge slip during the sixth inning, but stayed true to the course and walked it off with one down in the seventh.
Brianna Gallagher, a junior center fielder for SA, was able to please the home crowd with an RBI double against Eastern junior pitcher Kenna Raye Dark towards the left field corner on the warning track. That two-bag hit allowed sophomore Greta Hessenthaler (five-pitch walk) to score all the way from first base.
