The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education approved the provisional appointment of Keith Coleman to fill a vacancy on the board, at the January 14, 2021, board meeting.

Coleman is the current co-chair of the district's intercultural equity and excellence district advisory committee and parent in SMMUSD. He brings expertise in strategy, public affairs, government relations, economic development and other areas of expertise to the school board.
Coleman holds a Master's Degree in applied positive psychology from University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor's Degree in economics from Stanford University, where he is a distinguished visiting scholar with the graduate school of education. He is a graduate of the USC SPIRE (Summer Program in Real Estate) program. He is a senior advisor for Capitol Partners and served as a executive vice president of public policy, chief strategy officer emeritus, for the Tesla Foundation.
