MANSFIELD - The person who dumped three baby goats along the railroad tracks on Sites Road around 6 p.m. Wednesday could be facing criminal charges.
Richland County Sheriff's Capt. Donald Zehner said dispatchers received a call from someone who witnessed a red truck dump the three goats and leave the scene.
Zehner said early Wednesday evening he was caring for the goats short term at his farm. He estimated the goats are under six months old.
Deputy Owen Ross rescued the goats and put them in his cruiser and brought them to Zehner's farm.
Wednesday night, the goats' owner Danny Boyd posted on Facebook that his goats were missing. He doesn't live too far from Sites Road. He said he thought they got loose.
