Times staff report
A school-aged child has died from COVID-19 complications in southwestern Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
The child was under the age of 10, the health department said. Since the start of the pandemic, three Minnesota children younger than 18 have died due to COVID-19.
The Marshall Independent reported Monday that an elementary school student in Marshall died of complications from COVID-19, according to the Marshall Public School District.
Superintendent Jeremy Williams said the district learned a girl in the first grade at Park Side Elementary died Sunday, according to reports from the Marshall Independent.
"While COVID-related deaths in children are rare, they can occur even in otherwise healthy children," the health department said in a statement.
