COVID vaccines deserve public confidence | News, Sports, Jobs

Last week something happened that qualifies as a personal milestone. I received my second of two COVID vaccine doses. That means I now have some built-in protection against one of the worst pandemics in history. It also means that I’m doing what I can, in a small way, to bring the world closer to an overall immunity factor. As the doses add up, we start to reach a point when the risk of infection becomes much more limited. I trust Dr. Fauci and our other foremost scientists. I trust leaders from all walks of life and all political persuasions who favor getting the vaccine.

Times staff report A school-aged child has died from COVID-19 complications in southwestern Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. The child was under the age of 10, the health department said. Since the start of the pandemic, three Minnesota children younger than 18 have died due to COVID-19.  The Marshall Independent reported Monday that an elementary school student in Marshall died of complications from COVID-19, according to the Marshall Public School District. Superintendent Jeremy Williams said the district learned a girl in the first grade at Park Side Elementary died Sunday, according to reports from the Marshall Independent. While COVID-related deaths in children are rare, they can occur even in otherwise healthy children, the health department said in a statement.

Day, of Marshall, died on Sunday at a hospital in South Dakota, according to her obituary. Her funeral service is slated to be held on Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Masks are required indoors.
