The Ministry of Infrastructure Development will be executing a scaled-down road works project on the Caracol Road. According to Minister Julius Espat, his Ministry has deferred phase two of the project, but after they did a review of the plans in place they were able to recuperate twenty-eight million dollars in savings. He says they are now they are using that money to execute a reduced version of much needed road upgrades.

“Therefore, a comprehensive design review of those portions of the Caracol Road project not under construction, meaning lot 1C and three lots under phase two was done; this resulted in substantial cost savings combined with a renegotiated combined with a supervision consultancy, a total savings of twenty-eight million dollars was achieved, a portion which is reflected in this contract lot 1C. The Caracol upgrading project is approximately seven kilometers, approximately four point three miles. With no objection from the funding agency, the Belize Government signed a contract for the upgrade of the Caracol Road upgrading project with Belize Roadway Construction section 1C for the amount of twelve million one hundred and fifty-two Belize dollars and twenty-seven cents. It is anticipated that works will commence immediately.”
