ROYAL OAK — At approximately 1:40 a.m. Dec. 19, a Royal Oak police officer in the area of 14 Mile Road and Coolidge Highway observed a vehicle matching the description of one involved in a carjacking that had occurred earlier in Southfield.
The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled from the officer at a high rate of speed on westbound 14 Mile, ultimately bailing out of the vehicle — a blue 2007 Saab — and fleeing on foot.
Sgt. Richard Millard, of the Royal Oak Police Department, said the carjacking had taken place hours earlier and the Royal Oak police officer then matched the stolen vehicle’s license plate with a be-on-the-lookout notice.
