LIKE all great wars, the last one was hard on kings. No less than nine of them were swept from their thrones to join the dreaming, scheming host of has-been monarchs and would-be monarchs who flit about Europe from Grand Hotel to Grand Hotel.
Even when their people have long forgotten them, these crownless exiles never give up hope. Some of them are surrounded by fanatical supporters and some have partisans and undercover men working in their homeland for a restoration.
