REPORTER: THE INCIDENT OCCURRED HERE IN BRIGHTON EARLIER THIS MONTH. THE VICTIM TELLING POLICE THE UBER DRIVER GRABBED HER WHILE SHE WAS IN THE BACKSEAT. TWENTY FIVE-YEAR-OLD SONPREET SINGH OF SOMERVILLE IS CHARGED WITH INDECENT ASSAULT AND BATTERY. HE WAS DRIVING THIS LEXUS FOR UBER THE NIGHT OF APRIL 8, WHEN HE PICKED UP TWO WOMEN WHO TOLD INVESTIGATORS THEY HAD A FEW DRINKS AND WERE HEADING HOME. THE POLICE REPORT STATES SINGH MADE SOME SUGGESTIVE COMMENTS DURING THE RIDE, AND THEN GRABBED THE VICTIMS’ BREASTS BEFORE DROPPING HER OFF. HE TURNED HIMSELF IN ON SUNDAY. HIS ATTORNEY RELEASED A STATEMENT READING " MR. SINGH IS A HARD-WORKING YOUNG MAN WITH NO PRIOR CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO A TRIAL IN THIS CASE. AS IS OFTEN THE CASE, THE PUBLIC ONLY HEARS ONLY ONE SIDE IN CASES INVOLVING RIDESHARE DRIVERS, BUT WE LOOK FORWARD TO OUR DAY IN COURT." THE VICTIM RESPONDING TO THE INCIDENT BY PUNCHING THE SUSPECT IN THE FACE. HE WAS ARRAIGNED THIS MORNING AND RELEASED ON BAIL WITH CONDITIONS, INCLUDING THAT HE NOT WORK FOR ANY RIDESHARE COMPANY.
