STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island Ferry is arguably the borough’s most iconic symbol.
Since 1817, the orange boat has been making the five-mile trek across New York Harbor in about 25 minutes.
Today, the boat shuttles an average of 70,000 passengers back and forth from Staten Island to Manhattan daily, attracting tourists looking for a free view of the Statue of Liberty.
