Key Highlights
The polls witnessed more than 70 per cent voting to elect over 100 civic body representatives in Punjab
A total of 2,832 candidates are independents, while 2,037 are from the Congress and 1,569 are from the SAD
The BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party fielded 1,003, 1,606 and 160 candidates, respectively
Amritsar: The Congress won six municipal corporations and emerged as the largest party in the seventh, sweeping the urban body polls in Punjab on Wednesday. It also won 107 of the 109 municipal councils in Punjab. The final results for the recently-conducted Punjab Municipal election will be announced today itself. The Punjab Municipal Corporation elections were seen as a referendum on the three new farm laws passed by the Centre.
