Humboldt County Public Health confirmed 44 new COVID-19 cases today — making 169 for the week, the highest weekly tally since late January and a more than doubling of last week's total of 84. It's the highest single-day total since mid-May.
One new hospitalization was also reported today and, according to a state database, 13 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 locally, including two under intensive care.
Today's cases were confirmed after laboratories processed 393 samples with a test positivity rate of 11.2 percent. Statewide, the test-positivity rate over the past seven days sits at 4.1 percent — the highest since February — which is dwarfed by the local rate of 11.9 percent over the same period, which is the highest Humboldt County has seen at any point in the last year.
