POLAND’S SUMMER SHOWDOWN: The European Commission on Tuesday issued an ultimatum to the Polish government, led by the Law and Justice (PiS) party: It must comply with an EU Court of Justice ruling from last week that found Warsaw’s disciplinary procedures for judges violate European law. Poland must implement the decision and end the operations of its Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court by August 16, Commission Vice President Věra Jourová said at a press conference.
